I can't believe there's a brewery in Raton, much less one that brews such delicious beer! My partner and I were in town for a visit (I grew up in Raton, but haven't been back for many years), and on the recommendation of someone at our motel, visited Colfax Ale Cellar. The beers we had there were great - the Goat Hill IPA and the seasonal Orange Wit. We also got a bottle of the Orkney Ale, which we enjoyed a lot. Even better than the beer, though, is what a great atmosphere the brewery has. The space is gorgeous - especially the ceilings. Kate was tending bar when we first got there, and couldn't have been friendlier. The brewery has some good games there, and we enjoyed being able to settle in for a game while we enjoyed our beer. Definitely check out the Colfax Ale Cellar if you're in Raton! I hope this place sticks around for a long time, and becomes a permanent part of the community. read more

I'm not much of a beer fan, but I wanted to check this place out. It's a cool space inside a historic building. Bartender was super-nice and very helpful in helping me pick the beers for my flight. I enjoyed the flight, and the Wagon Board was especially delicious. My wife and I then stayed to share a 20oz Wagon Board while we chatted with the barkeep and some of the other customers. With Bruno's right around the corner (GREAT pizza), it's perfect. We look forward to going back on our next trip to Raton! read more

We stopped in off the HWY from a turn and burn to Trinidad for cheaper better medicine. After leaving the dispensaries we found limited food options with no microbrew in sight. We pushed on to Raton, and I'm so glad we did. Google misled us to a pizza joint, a quick phone call and I was directed on track. Parked in front, its quiet and peaceful, a great contrast to the chaos of I25 construction through the pass. The beers are wide ranging in variety and only 1 IPA!!! Im shocked! The orange wit is good, and the golden is amazing. Got a 20 oz, and now we're just sitting waiting for the pizza from brunos to get delivered. They left the original tin ceiling in from the 1860's the atmosphere is great, a nice watering hole to wet the whistle along the Santa Fe trail. Happy travels friends! read more

I did not eat any food here. My 5 star rating is solely based on the service I received & the tastes of the beers I received. The bartender was very friendly & attentive to our needs. A friend & I are waiting for the AmTrack train that's over 90 minutes late. Colfax has a ton of in house brewed beers. Loved them. We just got off a dry 8 days at Philmont Scout Ranch. Loved our visit here & the service. I totally plan on re-visiting this establishment!!! read more

We stopped in last night and tried the hef, which was excellent. We also got a green chili brisket quesadilla which was also excellent. They were on the slow side, but for one guy working the bar and one guy working kitchen, they were doing a great job. Thanks a bunch guys. read more

Wonderful beer and really good food. We got a flight, the rabbit chaser golden ale (very good) and the chicorica as well as some sandwiches, and bavarian pretzel with house made mustard (I liked it but the mustard tasted like it had horseradish in it). I have made this place a regular stop every night that I am in the area and have turned friends in the area onto this gem. They have updated the food menu and everything is excellent (better than bar food!)...just simply a great place to throw back two or ten and wash it down with some good food. Passing through Raton and stopped in for a beer and food. Their brews are tasty and mainstream. Nothing special, but easy on the palette. Food is basic bar food with a Mexican tilt. In other towns this place would be packed, but in Raton, not very crowded. Owner is super friendly and attentive. Worth a visit and enjoy a beer! read more

We spent the night in Raton and the Colfax Ale Center was recommended. It was exactly what we needed after a long day of driving. The turkey, bacon, and cheese sandwich was so good. The fresh guacamole was on the sandwich was a nice touch. My husband had a burger with green chili. He loved the extra kick from the chili's. He had the house brewed stout and I had Scottish ale. Much to our surprise, there is a brewery right next to the state park we were spending a few days. After having a flight of all their beers, we were impressed. Great place in the heart of historic Raton. We are passing through on our way back home to Texas from the mountains. Hubby really liked the Wagon Mound Brown Ale. He was pleasantly surprised. I was happy to see this place also serves local wines since I don't drink beer. I tried the red wine flight and Cab Sav is my favorite. The Rattlesnake Red is cool and sweet. Wow, what a treat to have a brewery in Raton NM. This place has a great ambience, ample selection of brews, ready access to food (Bruno's Pizza), and exceptionally attentive staff. We will definitely return soon. But, it's unacceptable to pay for a 16 oz draft that comes with 1.5 inch head--on all three pints. Come on, we're paying for a pint of beer, lose the head! read more

It is so awesome to find some fine craft beer in a small town. The place had great ambiance and some fascinating history. We sampled several beers on tap, but the Saison was by far the favorite. It's a Belgian and French style beer... Jim (the brewmaster)brewed both the Belgian style and the French style and then blended them together. Fantastic! I can't wait for some of the finer aged selections that are to come. We'll be back. read more
