This quintessential hole in the wall restaurant really delivers on portions and great food. We popped in and were pleasantly surprised at how huge the portions were and how delicious it was. Worst Mexican food I've ever had in Oceanside or California... which San Diego is known for great food especially Mexican food. Ordered caldo de Reyes soup and it was tasteless hot water and old vegetables, meat was a good size but no flavor. Tacos, bean and cheese burritos and rice and beans were gross, they need to taste their food before they served it. Carna asada fries were over cooked and tasted like the fries were cooked the day prior and reheated. Over $50 later and the food was so gross we did not eat it which is extremely rare. Save your money and find another taco shop, this one was not good. When I told them that the food did not taste good, I just received a blank stare. If I were an employee or owner of the business I would at least want to know why, they could care less, poor quality, terrible taste and lack luster service. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

Though I've driven by this place for a few years I've never stopped to eat. Decided to give it a try today and I'm glad I did. Decent size place, nothing fancy but clean and plenty of seating. Got a carne asada burrito and it was huge. They didn't skimp on the meat. It was so large part of it became lunch the next day. Would definitely return to try some of the other items on their menu (a lot of choices if you go there with family and friends). Just an average place at best. The portions aren't bad, but the flavor is bland. A friend said the salsa bar was killer but I thought it was a joke. They do have a large menu which is nice, but like I said the food is bland. I guess the large military population can't handle spice. The best part of the meal was the free Yelp taco. Went to Colima's on a referral of a friend. This place did not disappoint. I asked for a Quesadilla Supreme... I asked how big it was... the person taking my order said it was "grande, grande." I was satisfied with his description and ordered it. When I got my order, I thought I had ordered two. The description was correct... this thing was huge "Grande." Wow... I had to use a fork and knife to handle it and take it in pieces. The flavor was awesome and delicious. I only gave it a 4*, because it was small and not very clean. Everyone knows the smaller the place, the more of a "Hole in the wall" the place is, the better it is. My buddies also got meals and they were great. Definitely recommend this lil place. read more

Very good taco shop by Oceanside Beach Pier. It's in the "Berto's" style, but Colima's quality and amount of food is solid. I had the Carne Asada Burrito and order or Rolled Tacos. Both were tasty. Colima's has excellent guacamole. My only suggestion is more of a personal choice. Use smaller cuts of tomato in your pico de gallo. That's not a complaint though. Just "food for thought" read more

If you're looking for good and authentic Mexican food, please avoid this place. Being Mexican myself, I was extremely disappointed given all the good ratings and pictures I came across. The food was very under seasoned. We ordered the chicken taquitos, asada tacos, asada fries, asada burrito, and everything was flavorless! I will say their portion sizes are HUGE but that did not help in this case. I would never order from here again. Their service was good, went to pickup and had no issues with the order itself, friendly people. But their food is like any other Roberto's, don't be fooled. Great option for authentic Mexican food right by the pier in Oceanside. Service was fantastic, very friendly and our food came out quickly. Portions are insane, our burritos were huge and will fill you up for the rest of the day. They have a small salsa bar which I loved and the prices are more than affordable. The it quesadilla free taco with check it were also enormous and stuffed with meat. The adobada was perfect, flavorful and greasy in the best way possible. One of the best dining options in the area, especially on a budget. I'm more than happy to support this local, hardworking business, they deserve it. read more

Super fast service. The food is fresh and very tasty. Inside the restaurant is pretty tight where the counter is. There's a step down to the dining area, so keep that in mind if you have a stroller. You may have to go out and in through another door if you can't maneuver down a step. The dining area consist of a couple of booths and large picnic type tables. There was one person taking orders and delivering the food so there was a back up during the lunch rush. We had the carne asada burrito, quesadilla, rolled tacos, and an adobada burrito. They have HUGE portions!!! If you are hungry, this is the Mexican spot you need. My husband and I have tried their California Burrito, and it is BIG and full of meat and so much goodness inside. Also the Carne Asada Quesadilla is amaazzzinggg, greasy just the way i like it. The fish tacos are good, but not the best Oceanside has to offer. Haha Service is great! they are always friendly and helpful, and the food is always prepared fresh and quick! - they always have customers, but they manage it very well. Parking is easy, there's a lot of street parking, and if you have to park a block away, its always a nice walk cause there is so much to see. I came here with my parents on a trip down to San Diego. We ordered our food and sat at one of the many tables in the dining area to the left of the ordering counter. I left for a minute to wash my hands (2 restrooms, both gender neutral) and came back to huge plates of food. I ordered a shrimp burrito with rice and refried beans, which was hella delicious. We also got a side of french fries as well as a vegetarian burrito (for my mom) and fish tacos (for my dad). The food was fresh, tasty, and filling. I don't necessarily recommend the french fries (this is a Mexican restaurant, after all, get something more authentic), but they were good nonetheless. I'm not sure about people's complaints with the salsa bar -- I thought the food didn't really need an extra oomph and my mom enjoyed the salsa and veggies from the bar. When I saw a chicken burrito for ten bucks, I was skeptical... until an infant sized, chicken stuffed monster came out of the back!! Holy thick! Located near the Oceanside pier, there is street parking and there are public parking lot available around here. It's a small place with very friendly staff. Prices are super cheap here and you get a lot of food for your money. I got a carne asada burrito and was a little underwhelmed by the flavor. I thought it was lacking in flavor a little bit. But the meat was tender. We also had carne asada fries, which were pretty good. Lots of toppings, but the meat, again was lacking some flavor. We also tried the horchata, which was very good. There is no way this deserves 4.5 stars. Everyone is living off their memories of being in the marine corps and eating here because it was cheap and they gave you way more food to make up for the blandness. I had the enchiladas which were just okay-- nuked, but not well enough that they melted the cheese inside. The canned enchilada sauce was poured on with gusto. I also had a crunchy taco. Overstuffed and edible, but we've all had better tacos. The refried beans are from a can, and you can barely call the bland and flavorless rice, spanish rice. I know Colimas was somewhere else, I think up the street cause the location they are in was a coffee shop at one time. However, compared to the other mexican food places nearby, this is probably the best in downtown oceanside. I would make an exception for Davina's Cabo Grill for their little street side taqueria. Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, French fries and the beef. 2 things make that twist on the Disney classic poignant for me. I've been coming here since I was watching Disney movies (old location up the street) and it's where for most Oceansiders they were introduced to the amalgamations called California Burrito and Carne Asada Fries which over the past 20 years has become synonymous with San Diego Mexican food. Shout out to my dad for introducing me to this place at the ripe age of 9 (I know 20 years ago). Back when feeding 4 kids was so much easier to go to Taco Bell. We'd have father son days, go fishing at the pier and whether we caught something or not we'd split a burrito, but not just any burrito. The monstrosity had everything I'd ever wanted in life and though I could barely finish my half I looked forward to the burrito more than the fishing. Slowly the fishing trips stopped, but I would continue to come here after Friday night football games or school dances or heck and Friday or Saturday after a nice beach sesh. We all knew it to be too busy and too popular for them to stay at the prize bar sandwiched location, so they expanded down the street to where they are now. The place really isn't that much bigger, but their kitchen is and in the mid 90's is when I had my first rolled taco asada. Rolled taco's topped with carne asada (a meatier extravagance for us guacamole lovers. Ok so they don't use menchego or cotija cheese which are smokier and more traditional Mexican cheese and it doesn't melt the way many of us love, but for those of us who eat 3 rolled tacos with everything like French fries to go along with our California I think it's safe to say we have appetites. Their carne asada is well marinated, but not greasy and their French fries aren't super crisp, but the size will get you for the uninitiated and the hot sauce which is still bland to me compliments many of their dishes well. Verde all day for me. With all the traffic they get having a bathtub sized spicey carrots is necessary because I love chasing bites of surf and turf with them (will fall apart on you, so don't eat in your car while driving). Service is nothing spectacular since there are not waiters and they keep the tables cleaner than most places of similar stature. Big clear menu, tile floor makes walking in cycling cleats a nightmare and the off kilter loft /basement subdivision is not ideal. I love this place, for however long I'm alive or live near here I will come and will introduce people to the wonders of French fries and carne asada in the most perfect mobile delivery system, the tortilla. Anything less than 5 stars here, you must be expecting kale seed shakes, organic chupacabra eggs, local grown immitation cow meat, unicorn hair tortillas and gluten free tofu enchiladas...in other words that sssshhhh dont exist! You can rave about your favorite mexican spot but try this first and you will see that the flavor alone is 5 stars. Right outside of Camp Pendleton this place probably feeds more Marines than the chow hall. Everyone has been here at one point or another, especially when you crave certain foods from back home while on deployment, this place is always on the list. Portions are big, and the price is is very reasonable for the amount of food you get.
