The hygienist was excellent and told me my teeth were in good shape. When it was time for Dr. Alper to do his dental exam, he arrived and quickly determined I had 4 cavities that required filling. When I went home that night, I shared this news with my wife and she thought it sounded suspect. I responded that the dentist was honest and he wouldn't falsify cavities. Upon returning to the first visit to get a filling, I was informed that my dental insurance had reached its capacity and I would need to pay $435 out-of-pocket. The visit proceeded normally and he filled two cavities. A few weeks later, I returned to get the other cavities filled. Upon checking in, the receptionist informed me that it would be $950 out-of-pocket since my insurance had already maxed out. This is when the seeds of doubt began sowing in my head. Something didn't add up. I politely canceled the visit and asked them to send me my x-rays. A few weeks later, I visited another dentist in the neighborhood. He gave me a cleaning, inspected my mouth and reviewed my x-rays. He told me I had been bamboozled because there are no cavities in my mouth. He sent me home saying "come back in 6 months for a cleaning". Since the two visits to Dr. Alper had maxed out my annual insurance limit, there was nothing left to cover the cleaning or exam. Sympathetic to my situation, the other dentist generously gave me the cleaning and exam on the house. It turns out Dr. Alper was not in my network despite what I was told when making the original appointment. They had billed my insurance at more than 2x market rates. Dr. Alper deserves to be reported to the NYC Dept of Health for his unethical behavior. I was determined to do it to protect others from his scams, but haven't yet had the time. In addition, his front desk staff are painfully unhelpful and failed to inform me that my visits would be billed as out-of-network procedures. If I had known this from the beginning, I could have avoided this whole miserable ordeal. Don't waste your time or money here and don't be fooled by the nice offices. There are plenty of honest dentists out there who will treat you well.

As an autistic adult, I'd been through the gamut of infantilizing, disrespectful, and even cruel dentists, to the point where I haven't been for almost eight years. Autistic adults in my position, please come here! They actually listen! They've got sunglasses, they've got headphones, if you tell them to stop, they stop. The hygienist went out of her way to not use the loud brush on me, instead hand scaling and using an ultrasonic cleaner thing on my teeth. It was the most comfortable visit I ever had, even with the huuuge amount of work I needed done. At no point was I talked down to, yet their bedside manner was still soothing and friendly. Well, I see there haven't been many reviews for this place, and definitely none in 2021, so let me give an update. My experience was very inline with virtually all of the reviews here. (Save for CoCo's, perhaps, heh.) I had not been able to find a dentist for years in NYC because I didn't have dental insurance and couldn't afford to pay out of pocket. When I finally was able to get good insurance through work...the pandemic happened! Well, now that I'm vaxxed, I knew I couldn't put a cleaning off any longer. It's located in the basement level of an apartment building near the entrance to the Queens Tunnel on the east side, with a pretty unassuming entrance. I was a little curious as I descended the dark stairs, but soon entered upon a bright and comfortable waiting area and set of procedure rooms. My dental hygienist Rachel is AWESOME. I used to have a huge fear of the dentist when I was younger; through I've grown out of it, I'm still a little *myeh* about dental cleanings. Her bedside manner, her full explanation of what she was going to do, and even an explanation of my out - of - pocket costs for the certain services she needed to perform on me left me feeling incredibly comfortable. Unfortunately, since it had been about 6 or 7 years since I had a cleaning - I know, I know, BAD! Ha! - Rachel had her work cut out for her as I needed a debridement and some antibiotic injections in addition to my regular cleaning, but her friendliness and knowledge put me at extreme ease. I've heard great things about Dr. Park, and I'll chime in as another supporter. My x-rays revealed that my wisdom teeth have to go - I knew this - but she also explained the benefits of Invisalign to correct a tooth crowding and bite issue I knew I had but didn't know how to address. Again, very through in her explanations, and I love how she straight up told me, "Switch to the PPO insurance to save yourself some money when it comes time to remove those wisdom teeth." Thank you for that candor! As I get back into a regular dental cleaning routine (now that I can afford it and have dental insurance!), I look forward to keeping Manhattan Dental Practices as my spot. Meaning you will wince and grimace your way through them. You will survive (barely) and be grateful your teeth are so clean, and also that you don't have to come back for another 6 months. The real issue, though, is the way they push x-rays on you each time you visit, regardless of what is going on in your mouth. I understand, from their perspective, it must make their jobs easier. But if you search for "dental x-rays" on the internet, you will see that, even within the dental community, this is a controversial topic. So if I decline x-rays, which I believe is within my right to do, why am I being made to feel like a criminal by the hygienists and dentists who work here? My most recent visit was the worst - the hygienist really crossed the line, in my opinion. I was there for a cleaning, in somewhat of a rush, and with no pain or discomfort in my mouth. I declined x-rays, not realizing it had been a little over a year since I got them. They hygienist literally grilled me, practically accused me of lying about when I last had dental treatment (actually, I just got confused and forgot because she put me on the spot and I don't keep track of these things), asked me if I was getting cleanings elsewhere (!), etc. It was so uncomfortable that I almost walked out of the office. Do you really want someone poking around in your mouth who is so hostile? I submitted to her brutal cleaning, but I have been fuming ever since. This dentist office should either make a policy that you must have x-rays each time you receive a cleaning, or stop harassing patients and assume it is there choice to make.
