I will say when doing something custom it can take a bit, parts somehow were lost and departments were blaming each other as to the locations of the lost items. I like it. It's where I bought the vast majority of my firearms. They are one of the few places that actually keeps an updated online list of what's in store. They have soooo many Colts, it's ridiculous. And lots of single action wheel guns. So that's why I go here, they actually have what I want. If I see something I want online, I'll call and ask them to put it aside so I don't miss it. Staff are mostly knowledgeable. Sometimes a little smug. I picked out a snubby and I was asked do I understand it cannot take +P rounds. I take a look at the gun, and ask him what does this say? "+P" Right. So it does take +P rounds. That's why I picked it out! And you do know you need to have two revolvers for single action shooting? Really? I had no idea. This is the 5th one. I get a little sass, but I just dish it right back. I mean, honestly, what do I know? I'm just a girl. I did go in once not knowing what gun I wanted, just a general size, idea, and price criteria, and it was actually a lot fun going through the store to find the perfect one. And I was eagerly offered a bunch of online retailers on where to find a very particular ammunition. When I moved, they offered me a $10 service to change my address on my driver's license -- except they entered the street name wrong. And it's permanent. As in I had to go in to get a new license at the DMV. That was so supremely annoying. I wish they asked me for clarification before doing that. But alas, hasn't stopped me from coming here. Showed them the 2 rifles, sales guy took them to be looked at, came back and asked what i wanted for them or trade. i explained what i wanted to trade for, he made a phone call, hung up turned around and said not interested. Several decades ago I started doing business with Collectors Firearms. This year alone I have bought 4 different semiautomatic pistols. Even in these hard times for the firearms industry I got good quality products at a fair market price. I recently bought a AK 47. I checked with Collector's first and their inventory was limited on this item. I found what I was looking for online at Bud's gun shop and had it delivered to Collectors for an FFL transfer. Even though I didn't by directly from them for the reason cited they still treated me with professional courtesy as they have for years. The old store was fun to visit. The new one is like going to an amusement park of firearms. You can spend hours browsing through the inventory. Last but certainly not least is a shout out to my long time sales rep Michael. Honest gun store. I called to get a price quote on a rifle I've been looking for. No other gun store in Houston even had it in stock. The guy on the phone accidentally quoted me a price WELL under retail for this rifle. I drove over 2 hours round trip to buy it only to find out I'd been misquoted on price. The salesman spoke to the manager about the situation. Most dealers woulda said they're sorry about the mistake and sent me packing. DO NOT SELL YOUR ITEMS TO COLLECTORS. I have been going to their store for many years, and countless times I have witnessed them taking advantage of uninformed sellers. Just today, I saw a man come in with an authentic Japanese sword and scabbard from World War 2. The man did not know what the sword was or what is was worth. The "gentleman" from Collectors told the man that the sword was trash and offered him $50 for it. When the man asked if he could offer a little more, his reply was "Look, $50 is my 'I don't really want this thing' price." I spoke up and told the seller that since Collectors didn't want it, I would be happy to buy it for a fair price. The "gentleman" from Collectors jumped out from behind the counter and berated me for coming into "his" store and interfering with his ripping off of a poor customer. This is not a unique experience. EVERY time I go in there, I see a seller getting lied to and insulted into taking a fraction of the value of their item. I've seen them pay as little as 30% of the value of firearms to people who trusted Collectors to give them an honest appraisal and offer. Check your item's value on GunBroker.com before going to Collectors to sell. If buying items way under price wasn't enough, they also sell everything for over market price. If you do decide to buy from them, make sure to ask for a lower price on used items. They usually knock enough off the price to cover the sales tax. Eventually I decided to save my money and my time for when I could get back to town to shop with the team at Collector's. Everyone on the staff is friendly and helpful. They're always glad to take an item out of the case and let you get your hands on it. They buy, sell, and do trade-ins and I always feel like I've been taken care of. They helped me set up my trust for my suppressors, SBR's, etc., making it easy and painless to pop in and purchase what I want and need, instead of salesmen pushing useless crap that I don't need. If they don't carry something in stock, they can special order nearly anything, no matter how exotic. I see the other reviews about condescending sales behavior, and at first(and still to this day years later) I definitely get this vibe from the older gentlemen working the floor(I'm a young 20-something). Now I merrily skip right past them and deal with the younger salesmen(they know who they are, no names needed) who have taken the time to learn my name, appreciate and encourage my interest in shooting, and have hence sold me an majority of the firearms I own today. Love the amount of vets working in the store. They do a good job with negotiating trade-ins, giving you roughly 50% mrsp for a good condition used firearm, unless you bring in something in high demand or extremely rare. The gunsmiths are qualified to do most anything you need, but some are more qualified than others and will really put their heart and soul in working on your firearms, as if they were their own. Where can you find a store (museum quality) estate sale and one of a kind. My old friend Ron a single action western reenactment cowboy was fascinating. I am a former New Yorker so a store like this is not to be found in New York any where, really anywhere! I have gone to a few old gun stores in Florida keys and upstate New York, Werchester county with those really nice old gun cabinets, a barber chair and a man who really liked and knew fine Firearms. With a pocket full of cash one could have fun all day. Guys have tried to redo this excitement at Athena, but what does not work is the 6.50 per hour sales whores who lack humility, knowledge, and taste, really: just keep it real at Collectors, get a couple of ranges to shoot at, a few old fashioned call girls, or guys, and allow person to feel good about what is between their fingers. Good selection, markup can be pretty bad on some items, customer service is hit and miss. Had an absolutely great interaction a week ago when purchasing a revolver. Went in today looking for something more for the safe than anything else, spot an mp5 clone on the back wall. Ask the kid "Mind if I feel that one?" His response; "Man, I don't really wanna climb all the way up there." Mind you, 1) "all the way up there" is literally all of 10 feet up a wall, and 2) I'm pretty sure I would be fired on the spot at my place of employment if I told a customer "Nah, I don't really feel like doing my job right now." Either way, I walked out with 2 grand still in my pocket and waiting for the next gun show instead. Collectors, if y'all are in the business of selling guns, you may wanna make sure everybody is on board with that mission. Update to respond to CF: True. There was another gun below the counter that the clerk *eventually* grabbed. That somehow negates the fact he first basically said "I don't want to do my job" to y'all? I can see why you all have so many low reviews if that's the level of customer service you would go online to defend. I also never complained about the price, but did decide I didn't want to more or less reward poor service with a purchase of that magnitude on the chance you pay commission. I did "wander" away, mostly because the employee was more interested in talking about his personal life with other employees and other than the "I don't wanna go all the way up there" comment said about 6 words to me. Also, weird. I didn't know I had gotten a job in the firearms business. Cool, when should I be expecting my first check and who will be writing it, again? This place is a joke! The guns are marked up 30-40% and they ask retail for the used guns. O ya lets talk about the staff. They are rude and act like when you ask a question it is the biggest deal in the world. I asked to see an over under shotgun and the guy acted like I walked in his house and turned his T.V. The guys in the tactical section are the rudest stuck up guys I have ever dealt with in retail. They are bunch of wanna be military guys that think they know everything. So as an update to my last review, I thought I'd give collectors another try. (Important note: After my last negative review, a manager replied and said it was their "customer service" that stands out). So I went in to buy the pistol I was interested in. Went to the pistol counter and waited to be helped. I was then told the pistol I wanted was "on the other side of the counter". So I walked over to the other side thinking the salesman would follow me. Nope, apparently that wasn't his "area" of the counter. Waited 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes to be helped. No assistance, not even an acknowledgment we were standing there. Well Ok, I get the guys on "that" part of the counter were busy. But what I DON'T get is at least 6 other sales people watched us standing there. Were they busy? Nope, matter of fact they were just talking and laughing. So I guess their "great customer service" the manager was referring to is if you're lucky enough to be at the right "part" of the counter at the right time. Then you might be helped assuming it's their exact "area" of the counter. Otherwise? No one will help you. Needless to say, I left yet again. read more

Having purchased some very high dollar long guns and specialty pistols from Collectors over the years, it was time for me to sell a new in the box Kimber that I had purchased new from them just a few months ago. Mind you, the pistol had not been fired and had not seen the light of day since I bought it, just needed to make some room in my gun safe. I knew Collectors buys guns, so I figured they would treat a returning customer right. I asked for a buyer to give me a price on this just over $1,400 new pistol and he came back and said that the "manager" offered $500 for the gun. WHAT?!? Are these people serious?!? I will happily take my business elsewhere and leave these train robbers to prey on someone else. No personality in anybody behind the counters, not when I buy a $3,000 shotgun or bring people in to shop and certainly not when it comes to trying to sell them something. Let's face it, I wouldn't have blushed at taking a $150 or $200 hit on the gun...can someone direct me to another store in town that provides a better shopping experience each and every time? Besides, the parking is terrible and this shop is in the area of town where you'd better be packing. I'll leave the door dings and miscreants hanging around the bus stop just where they are. UPDATE. I sold my pistol back to Collectors Firearms as a personal choice. I took care of my gun while under my care, cleaning it after each use at the range. I experienced upon my return courteous service, a fair price for buy-back, and no sign of attitude. These guys were great to work with. I may buy a gun again in the future. If I am in Houston to do so, I will trust Collectors Firearms for my purchase. ------------------------------ I marked 3 stars largely because I am currently split and am awaiting a return visit to expand my opinion. I just bought my first handgun at Collectors Firearms (CF). I am not new to pistols/rifles, but this was my first actual purchase. Having been in retail sales, I know it is of varied outcome whether a person comes in to a store just to 'kick around' or actually purchase, or at least is on a 'fact mission'. That being said, I visited CF with the specific goal of finding a pistol that fit my hopes and expectations for a pistol. The first associate to engage me perhaps perceived me as not being a buyer, thus he was curt, barely above disinterest, and just kind of faded away to another customer while I thought I was awaiting an answer to a question I asked. The second associate who came to me was very mellow, friendly, and helpful. I appreciate how patient they were in helping me make my choice. I selected a Glock 45 30sf and we began the paperwork. On the day I visited, there seemed to be a statewide backlog and thus, I would have to wait to pick-up my firearm. The associate was very nice explaining why I was waiting, and that he apologized for this wait even though it had nothing to do with him. We parted on good terms, and when I return, I will hope to deal with this man again based on his nice and professional demeanor. The third associate I dealt with when I went to pick up my gun acted like I guy I had woken up from a good sleep, all grumpy and of a manner that suggested he really did not want to assist in anything. Nonetheless, he got me squared away and I returned home finally with my initial purchase. The stores variety is 'off the hook' and is as much a serious store for firearms and related items as it is a kind of museum of history. Their prices are a bit high yes, but not so much that I found it objectionable. Anyhow, it's not like I need a date with a staff member there. They are human, and in that, there are good ones, bad ones, and ones I just won't mesh well with. Oh well. I will return and when I do I will just aim to speak with the staff there that I prefer. read more

I went to the store - which was well stocked, had excellent floor coverage and a very relaxed atmosphere - to sell a 3 month old Springfield EMP 4 LW Champion and purchase a Sphinx SDP. It was a difficult decision to come to but having made the decision I drove the 40 minutes necessary to get to the store. My weapon had less the 1000 rounds through it (considerably less now I think on it) and was purchased for 1150.00 (of the ~1200 MSRP). I had also purchased 2 additional Springfield brand magazines (44.00 each) and upgraded the sights to XS standard dot tritium sights (143.00). Doing the math I... I turned in 1423.00 worth of goods. Had I sold the weapon I would have asked $980.00 for the package. The weapon I purchased was $1049.00 MSRP on the manufacturer's web site. The manager, Vincent, who I dealt with devalued my gun and accessories by 51% - offering only $700.00. He then "gave" me the new pistol for 1100.00 -- $51.00 OVER list price. I could have walked out but, as noted, I had finally made a decision and decided to carry through with it right then and there. So in the final analysis I would repeat that the store is actually quite nice. The staff are polite and overall it could have been a top-fight experience. What kills it for me was that the value offered was unrealistically low, the street-level pricing was outrageous. If your money matters to you on either side of the buying or selling of firearms I would suggest to you that you would best do business with anyone else before this store. It really matters little to me how clean or polite a thief is. It is still a thief. The sad part is that I am in the market for * LWRC1 REPR MKII 20" - ~3500.00 * Benelli M4 - ~2000.00 * a handgun for my son (probably a SIG, ~1500.00) * CZ Bull Shadow (custom) - ~2400.00 These in the next 6 months.
