This is an animal shelter. It is a good humane place and the employees try very hard. A few weeks ago it was at capacity. My son, 22 years old, guess he was raised right :) He went to the shelter and he found a beautiful male 2 year old cat who had a cold - kennel cough. My son thought his adoption chances were low. He brought him home. He was isolated from our other 4 animals for a week. A single visit to the vet and a little time and patience was all that was required. We've adopted two cats from this shelter a few months ago, and yesterday we adopted one. We didn't feel that she was the best fit, and we also had looked through her paper work and found that she was a barn cat. We just went in to the shelter today to adopt two cats we met yesterday (along with the one we thought we wanted) and a woman named Bonnie seemed really upset, even though we explained our situation. This cat that we thought we wanted was aggressive and we didn't want her getting into trouble with the other cats, is what I told her, and she proceeded to make us feel bad by saying that it re-traumatized the cat (even though the cat was fine and didn't want to be with us) and say that she doesn't want us to adopt any cats from here because of "how we handled this one." She also claimed that the paper about her being a barn cat "slipped in there." She was already being extremely stingy yesterday with letting us see the other two cats, and today she was just pushing it, as if she wants to adopt the cats herself. I wouldn't adopt from here, especially if you want to try out having a pet for the first time and it doesn't work out, and you need to bring it back. Bonnie, if you want Alaric and Silver so bad then take them home. You handled that situation really poorly, by making us feel bad for simply not feeling fit with this cat. If there is a manager that is at a higher position than Bonnie then I'd like to speak with her. Thank you. read more

The animals are amazing, they are sweet and loving. But the volunteers seem to be doing everything. That's not the issue. The issue is the rude a$$ lady at the front. She's older and has dark hair. She's ALWAYS been rude. I used to do community service here and even then she was so rude. I was trying to ask her questions, and she just dismissed me so fast. She talks to everyone so rudely. Get better employees. Get people who enjoy talking to future adopters. read more

If I could give this horrible place zero stars I would! They will do anything to push the dogs out the door including deceive you on their health and try to downplay as sick as they are as they know as soon as you walk out with it you are financially responsible for their medical.If you don't want $2,000 the day after adoption worth of medical bills and a dog who has 48 hours to pass away if you don't spend that money Then don't come here!!!!!! They are extremely deceiving and have affected my family greatly. We decided not to buy a puppy from a breeder and to rescue one because we wanted our kiddos to feel the experience. We came here multiple weekends and saw many different dogs all within the age range of 6m-2y. We met multiple puppies that we loved and ended up wanting to meet one of them which they said because he was a puppy they had to carry him around and take extra protocol (which by the way they did not do with any of the other dogs we saw) They took a ton of weird precautions and acted very weird in many different ways that I won't get into detail with. They said the dog was not eating their treats because it just didn't like hot dogs. They carried him to meet us and they carried him to our car when we adopted him just because they said of his age which once again they did not do for any of the other puppies we saw. First day we bring him home and he will not eat drink or pretty much walk at all. We message them and said if he was okay because he was not eating drinking and was pretty much lethargic they explained that it was probably just some anxiety. By the second day we got so worried that we took him to the vet and this poor puppy had not only three kinds of parasites eating his stomach but he had PARVO which is a extremely extremely dangerous and fatal virus for dogs. The vet said if we did not get him hooked up to IVs and have him stay in the hospital for the day that he would probably pass away in the next day or two. My kids were distraught and it was extremely stressful. We messaged the shelter to no response. We now have a huge medical debt that we took out that we somehow acquired within the first 48 hours of having this dog. They very much knew what they were doing and when we finally got a chance to go and talk to them about it they said pretty much too bad there's nothing they can do about it and that they had a contract saying that they could not do anything for health issues however I understand if there is some issues that needed a lot of tests but parvo is something that is very easy to see the symptoms and extremely extremely contagious. If we had other puppies or dogs in the house it would have put their life in danger. So if you are looking to adopt a dog please do not go here as they are very deceitful and who knows what kind of condition your pet will be in. The one we adopted was days away from dying from parvo and they very much knew it, contaminated our house and family and any neighboring pets. I am in the works of working on this issue with the heath department as this is unacceptable and honestly sad And discouraging for people who want to actually adopt for the right reasons. read more

Worst experience ever. The volunteer named Shani was really rude and wouldn't allow me to get a dog she only wanted us to get a certain dog that she wanted and us to bring home. She didn't think that any of the dogs that we wanted was reasonable and she had a really bad attitude and not really welcoming. And I understand where the staff members are coming from telling people about being careful with the dogs being around kids but that's literally common sense they are always repeating themselves so I would suggest them to be very considerate over how they speak to people and don't be coming across as too disrespectful when telling someone that's trying to save an animal because this animal can become part of the family and they wouldn't know the circumstance of the family that's getting an animal. read more

So, please don't pay attention to people who don't understand that animals, just like people, (a) get sick and (b) have their own personalities and (c) are going through so much when you come in to adopt! You're a stranger, this is a strange place to them & who knows what they have been through? PLEASE remember that. You know how you usually catch a cold when you're stressed? Well, multiply that stress by a million and add on loads of fear, depression & most-likely, neglect. THAT is what an abandoned or neglected animal is feeling. On top of all of that, shelter and rescue workers deal with more crap than anyone can imagine. If you've never worked in rescue, you can't imagine what their days are like. So, please give them a break! Adopting an animal is a decades-long commitment. It's expensive, it's hard work but it's also awesome. Shelters like this exist only because people aren't responsible. If i could give no stars I would. About a year ago, I adopted a dog they had listed under the name "Honey". She was in a crate, in a hallway, stacked on two other dogs, and asleep. When I asked to please play with her, they directed me to a small room, where the woman who took her out of said crate told me that she was weak and couldn't walk because "she was found on a concrete construction site and malnourished" which I later discovered was a lie. The woman who took her out told me that in about a week she would be happy and adjust as normal dogs do, yet I felt a red flag go off. I asked again, if she was sure that Honey was not sick, because I have a young dog at home, and I did not want my current pup to get sick or die, she assured me it was from her prior living conditions. After being convinced by word from the woman saying there was nothing wrong with Honey, I adopted her. A week had gone by and no improvement. She would eat, lay with me and my dog, and started to walk slightly, but was still very underweight and sickly. She also still had this smell of sick, which progressed over time. Somehow, Honey managed to stay alive for two weeks, until the smell got so unbearable and I couldn't watch her suffer, I took her back to Collin county to see the vet, because again, I just got her a week and a half before this, was expecting to get it paid for. They came within 50 feet of the car and confirmed the worst, that Honey had parvo, and were able to conclude this based off of the smell alone. They finally took her back and tested her, and I was informed that they were shocked she even lived that long. The woman then told me that my current dog, most likely will have it and that I have to throw away EVERYTHING honey touched, which was THOUSANDS of dollars worth of furniture, blankets, car detailing, bowls, etc. They did have to put Honey down. I was devastated, as well as terrified of losing my sweet baby at home. They could have killed my other PUPPY. They lacked compassion, and did not even offer to assist me with my money back, or anything in that nature. The woman who showed honey to me, after me expressing she must be ill before adopting her KNEW that Honey was infected, and knew something was wrong. Yet they still adopted her out. Inhumane, and down right disgusting. Basically, BEWARE! COLLIN COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER WILL ADOPT OUT PARVO INFECTED DOGS!! read more

I got my Husky here, great staff very passionate! This is an amazing shelter, all the dogs available have passed health screenings, and look and behave healthy. The staff is amazing, they love the animals! The staff is very nice and patience. They have a FB page that is always up to date about available animals. The shelter is clean it smells like cats and dogs but not just of urine and poop like some other shelters do. read more

I just got a cat from them on Friday it is now Sunday and the 4 month old kitten I adopted and was told is up to date on all vaccinations and ready to go...has worms and fleas so imagine you and your children playing with a cat and u notice multiple worms coming from his butt as you play with him and when I called to notify them all I got was the contract you signed said your free to find whatever vet you want... Did community service here and watched a German Shepherd throw up blood. Asked the staff to come check on him and none of them had a had any urgency to help him. The dog laid there gasping for air and none of the staff could've cared less. The dog died because the staff took a lunch instead of tending to him it was one of the saddest things I have ever seen the dog needed help and nobody helped him. This staff could care less about helping them. It's a damn shame. read more

I was interested in adopting a one yr. old shepherd, but having a large 3 y.o. "alpha" dog I knew compatibility may be an issue. I cannot begin to say enough great things about how two volunteers took the time to appropriately introduce the dogs on lead, then off lead, out of my interference and then with me there, and introduce variables such as toys. Their patience was amazing (and also made me realize when they don't answer phones, they really ARE doing something else important). Although I didn't adopt that dog because I felt my dog needed more social skills, witnessing this whole process really reassured me that they cared about the best interest of animal and a good fit, and not merely looking to get rid of it. I would not hesitate at all to adopt from them. read more

Terrible experience. Adopted a cat they said was found astray, but friendly and loved to be petted. Maybe in the cage they kept her in, because when we got her home and tried to get her out of the carrier to put her collar on her while still in the truck she clawed my daughter and jumped out. We tried to get her back in the crate to let her calm down, but she took off for parts unknown. When I try to call the shelter back they don't even answer the phone or let you leave a message. Their message tells you to go look on their website to see if they have your pet. Stay away from this place and find a better shelter. read more

Went to the Collin County Animal Shelter late Wednesday afternoon and fell for a Yellow Lab that was in the Shelter marked as a stray. When I questioned the lady worker nearby and asked her how long they hold strays before becoming adoptable, she said "it depends". We asked if we could at least see the Lab out of his cage and we were told not until he became adoptable. Asked if we could be put on a email list to be notified when he became adoptable and we were told no that we would have to check the website every morning. We checked the website the following morning and the dog did not appear under adoptable or stray. We called Thursday morning to check on his status and was told he was placed on the adoptable list Wednesday afternoon and was immediately adopted. Seems really change that he gets put on the adoption list right after we leave the Shelter. I will not return to this Shelter to look for a dog. read more

From our facebook review... They picked up my dog when he was loose on the 27th of December and they are refusing to give him back. They claim to have sold him on the 29th. I was later told they hold found dogs for 6 days.... BUT HE WAS SOLD IN 2 DAYS?!?. He is not on file for being found, not on the website, facebook, gov site, no contact, no pictures for being up for adoption, no pictures for being sold as they do. Animal control has no information on the dog to top it off. HomeAgain has this shelter as being notified thus couldn't call or mail me? They attempted to talk to me in a condescending tone as if I was a retard and pass off some public info request sheet which i don't foresee that being any use. When I came in to get him, some girl ask what dog, told her which one, she runs to the back never to return until I was leaving. CCAS, release my dog!. He not sold, one of you have him or he is still in the shelter being withheld from their owner! Unless you sold him on the black market or something. This is one you can't delete and shove under the rug like the other posts. Whatever personal reasons you have, it does not account for the dog being mine and i'm asking you return him to me like you would do any other person. read more

The adoption process was super easy, and the volunteers are great with the animals. However, I am writing this as a warning to anyone considering adopting from here. I adopted a puppy from Collin County Animal Services last weekend. The staff were very paranoid and hesitant with handling my puppy...like they knew something, they didn't want me to know. My puppy looked OK the first day. However, the next day she completely went downhill. I immediately took her to my vet. She has been hospitalized the whole week for kennel cough and pneumonia. She also had worms (which is typical for a shelter pup). I have spent $1500 in vet bills on her this week, and she still has a long way to go. Collin County is one of the wealthiest counties in Texas. I know they do not have a vet on site at this shelter, but I'm sure they could do better when it comes to the health of these animals. It's irresponsible to release animals to the public in this condition. Now my other dogs are at risk. I am not blaming the volunteers for this, and I'm certainly not blaming the poor animals. But right now, they are offering $25 adoptions, and many uneducated people are adopting. They have no idea about the amount of vet bills they may be getting themselves into. I knew there would be risks with rescuing! I'm just sad that (what should be a fun experience), turned into a heartbreaking situation. I love my new pup, and I'm praying she will make it. It's just sad, that she finally has a home, and now she has to fight for her life all over again. read more

I adopted a kitten there this past Saturday. I was 1/2 way home and saw there were 4 fleas crawling on her tummy so I called Collin County Animal Services, I got no answer so I left a message. I got a voicemail back telling ME how to fix it!! That same night our kitten had a stuffy nose, gunky eyes, sneezing, gagging, the whole 9 yards. All symptoms of Upper Respiratory Infection. I call them the next morning because they were already closed at that point, surprise, no answer. They left me another message, she didn't leave her name, sounded like an older white lady, her words "that's on you" She then left in the message that "I was told before I adopted that all vet bills are my responsibility and I was told that before I signed the contract..." WRONG!!! No one and I mean neither of the 4 people I came in contact with mentioned ANYTHING about that. Clearly they had to have known that our kitten was sick and had fleas but did they bother to tell me, no. I'm just in shock on how rude that lady was (she didn't leave a name) to me and how she just didn't care that this 2 month old kitten is sick!! I will NEVER adopt another animal from them. In my opinion, she shouldn't even be working there. On top of all this, I already have a cat and now I have to keep the kitten isolated from my other cat so she doesn't get him sick. Y'all be careful adopting from them!!!! They clearly do not care about these animals. read more
