Have you ever had one of those days when you are super productive, the sun is out, the ocean is gorgeous, and then the perfect song comes on in your car making you sing as loud as you can, and then you stumble upon the cutest little sandwich shop (go favorite food!!)? After a productive morning of work, I set out in my car and Sia's Bird Set Free came on (blast it!), the ocean was glittering, and the sky was perfectly blue as I was on my way to get some errands done at Manor Plaza. I arrived and headed out of my car. I hadn't had lunch yet, and I don't know how I missed it before!?!? How could I not have noticed this place? I walked right up to Colombo's Delicatessen! Oh yes, a sandwich spot! Why am I obsessed with sandwiches? I have no idea. But, my obsession is worse now that I found Colombo's. Uh oh. I built my own sandwich on sliced sourdough. I ordered turkey, ham and salami with American cheese. The meats are fresh sliced here and the cheeses are also fresh sliced and very tasty. I haven't had American cheese that flavorful before, with the slight tang of aged goodness in it. Yum. I lucked out because I got my order in before a whole sports team arrived. It looked like sometimes they get busy with a long wait, but they let you know at the counter how long it will take to wait for your order. The service was friendly and efficient. I did have to wait a while for my sammy, like 10 minutes maybe, but I thought that was reasonable for the amount of people in line and also super fresh made sandwich. Colombo's also has a sweet gourmet Italian market. They have pastas you can't usually find in other groceries, fresh cheeses (these looked amazing!), Italian condiments, sauces, beautiful hand selected Italian cooking ingredients and a whole selection of cookies. From what I noticed a lot of the cookies are traditional Italian ones - I recognized some of them from what my ex-mother-in-law used to make. My mouth was watering looking at them but I restrained myself! Hahaha. They also have a decent selection of Italian wines. That looked good too. And they have a refrigerated section with their homemade soups, gnocchi, and other fresh items. I would definitely, definitely go here again. I can't wait to choose a wine, maybe try one of their signature sandwiches, or pick up some of their fresh gnocchi. Colombo's Deli is a find. And I'm glad I found it. read more

White guy at the register who took our order was rude & sarcastic and clearly either did not like us or didn't like his job. Spent over $50 bucks of my hard working money.. Wasn't offered a bag even tho we had a shit load of items.. My son's salami sandwich had pieces of turkey in it no cheese when he asked for American they hardly put any meat. Totally disappointed.. I was actually on my way to Safeway in Pacifica because I was starving I haven't eaten and it was almost 2 o'clock. I was really in the mood for a sandwich and noticed that there was a deli with quite a bit of people there. I decided to go here instead. After waiting for 40 minutes for a sandwich, I finally got my food and decided to sit down and eat. First of all... The sandwiches gigantic so you could easily share this with another person. The sandwiches are about $11-$12 and I think it's worth it if it's going to be split between two people. Big bonuses.... that they have fresh deli cuts and fresh baked bread. The customer service is polite but not sure I was inclined to give a tip but I did anyways, nothing bad but nothing great about customer service. I also don't know why it has a $ sign this is definitely $$$ or more, all the deli goods are extremely expensive a bag of chips is two dollars and cookies for $13 no thank you! How was my sandwich? Well I hate to say this but Safeway is better in my opinion. My sandwich was so drenched in mayonnaise and only one little piece of lettuce you've got to be kidding me? I wish I would've taken a photo of how much mayonnaise I actually removed from the sandwich that wilted the one piece of lettuce they put on my sandwich all together. I felt sick to my stomach eating only a third of the sandwich wrapped it up and brought it home to my husband. When I got home and prepped it for my husband, I still removed tons of mayonnaise it's like they put it in between every layer totally unnecessary I could not even taste the meat or the cheese. Okay, so I'm committed to spending my entire Saturday relocating my MIL back to her apartment, after being in rehab (not that kind, physical therapy center). At least I deserve a good sandwich, don't you think? As others have said this is an old timey place. They make their own wonderful bread, and source great meats. They take so long though! They need to bring some efficiency to their system. Have one person working the register and taking orders, instead of giving your order to someone (in my case what looked to be a pretty inexperienced young man) who then makes your sandwiches, and finally (15 mins later) returns and takes your payment. Also, would like to have seen more handwashing going on between taking money and making the next sandwich. Okay enough complaining. I'm back for what is probably my 25th lifetime visit, so clearly I like it. I got two ham and cheeses (for my MIL and hubby) and a roast beef with cheddar for me. The rolls, in our case one each sour dough, sweet French, and dutch crunch, were so fresh, and the meats and cheeses were good. I am pretty disappointed. I can deal with the even longer waits because of the lame shlep rockers and aging hipsters who have swarmed the deli because of great reviews. I am happy that the deli is doing more business and even though I have been coming here longer then Yelp has been a website,I have always been happy with my food. Not this time. My sandwich looked like it was sat on by a elephant, meaning it was not as big as usual ,had no purple onions , had a sad small portabella that was only in half the sandwich, the mozzarella was not fresh ( dried out) and it had some different type of spread on it. It was like someone forgot how to make a rockaway. I usually get full with half of one of these, not today. Please dont sacrifice quality and a constant product because of the business rush. One of the things that majorly lacks in Pacifica is great sandwiches. However, this place is a great deli - that is if you are PATIENT. But from the last time I recall, aren't delis supposed to be the place where they whip up a sandwich quickly? Anyway, if you can wait all of their sandwiches are really great (hence the 3 stars - 2 for waiting, 4 for good food) . I personally am not a fan of the dutch crunch because I don't like anything scratching the roof of my mouth, but apparently people love it here. Also, they're inconsistent with picking up their phone. If you try calling during their lunch rush, good luck - it's hit or miss. Lastly if you're new here, there is no line. The sandwich I always get is the Napoleon (prosciutto, sun dried tomatoes, pesto, cheese). It's a solid order, I suppose. They also have some good calamari and orzo that they have in their shop as well. My problem with them is their lack of customer service. They're not exactly a group of adults that are stoked about working there. Which I can understand, but it comes off as rude. But get this; they give me the impression that they want to get me in and out because they're so unwelcoming, yet they take a day and a half to prep the sandwich. But at the end of the day, it's still the coast. I'm there to enjoy the scenery, not some sluggish unwelcoming sandwich makers. Kill them with kindness and make small talk, it's hilarious to see them partake in conversation. read more

Today was my first time here. Hubs had been here before with one of his buddies during a fishing trip. The food looked really good on Yelp, and had great reviews to boot. Instead of ordering my own sandwich, we decided to share the Club House sandwich since I felt like we had been eating ALL DAY LONG haha. It had turkey, bacon, ham, Swiss, American cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo on Dutch crunch. It was delish! I just wish they served it with a nice dill pickle. Grab a number (like at the DMV) and wait your turn to be called. You'll have plenty of time to decide on your order while you wait. Once you place your order in, expect a minimum of 15 minutes for your sammich to be ready. We wandered next door to the consignment store and killed a couple minutes looking at the vintage stuff there. The deli also has a couple aisles of Italian groceries like pasta sauces, pasta, cookies, crackers, bruschetta, condiments, canned veggies and beans, and the like. They do not offer any beers for sale there (booooo!) so you'll have to go a couple doors down to Safeway for some cold ones like we did. From the welcoming smiles and wonderful smells that greet you as you walk through the door, until the warm parting exchanges as you leave, you'll feel comforted. The family bakes their own loaves of bread, of various styles, textures and grains. The breads are all suited to the Italian Deli style sandwiches, plus you'll find focaccia, muffins, cookies and pastries. And if you arrive early enough, flaky croissants. Like any good deli, it's also a market with many imported Italian goodies, wines and even specialty pastas, ravioli, stuffed gnocchi and sauces. Don't miss the many salad and marinated items in the display case. There are even soups. But I saved the best for last... The sandwiches are amazing. There are 28 specialty sandwiches, like my favorites: Philadelphia Hoagie, Lt. Colombo and The Paisano. They also make wonderful panini and breakfast sandwiches, and of course, you can build your own. There are only a few seats, but the majority of their business is take-out, especially with a nice beach and great Pacific Ocean views behind them. The meats and cheese are sliced with loving care, whether to package or for the sandwiches. So don't expect a quickly slapped together meal, but do expect to be overwhelmed with flavor. I feel really bad writing this review. I have been a loyal patron of Colombos for about 20 years. I've been going there since I was a little girl. I have always loved their food, but unfortunately I have noticed an incredibly sharp decline in their food and service. I wish I could blame Covid but the decline started a bit before then. I have ordered from them four or five times now since Covid rampaged through our lives. None of the sandwiches have been correct. Not one. I have been getting the same sandwich for about 5 years now and never had any issues. I always ask for no tomato as they make me sick. I also order for a family member as well who does not like the peppers that come in her sandwich. They have 3 out of the five times put both of these items on our sandwiches even though we requested they not (I even put in the notes that I am allergic). Today I ordered and the sandwich I got was not actually made with the item that give it it's name. When I got there to pickup my food the employees were talking about me and my order with disgust like I was not standing right in front of them. I have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but after 5 attempts over a 5 month period, I have to give up. As I mentioned I have been going here for years, but I will not be returning after today. This truly breaks my heart, but until they start to care about their customers again, this is my goodbye to them. read more

Great food, bad system/service. The chownow ordering isn't useful at least on weekends. You order food, it defaults to "your order will be ready in 30 mins" and you go in after 40 minutes to find out "it's going to be another 15 minutes." Why? "It's busy." So anyway, don't trust the online ordering or you'll waste a lot of time. This was not a one-time occurrence or I would not have posted. Oh how I used to love this spot. Been going here for a couple of years, a favorite spot when coming down to Pacifica for a hike. My long story (it was way longer in person). Tried to call in an order but the phones were not working, straight to voicemail that was either full or not setup. Okay. Drove down to the cafe to put my order in only to be pointed to a handwritten sign by the door saying I need to use a special app to order my food. Sigh. Download the app/order the food on a clunky page/pay for it on the app after uploading my CC info etc. App pinged a message "order placed", finally. I then walked up to the counter to check the wait time and was told oh it should be about an hour. ?!?! An hour for one sandwich? There was 3 other people looking to order food and I didn't see any indication that it should take that long. It was around 2pm on a weekday. I was starving and already annoyed at how long all of this took. I asked for a refund and was told rudely, go through the app, we can't refund you. ?!? I was pissed and went to the car to deal with it. I could not find out how to do this and finally started a random chat with someone from the app and they said "oh yeah just go to the business they will refund you". I said they wouldn't and after at least 5 more minutes on hold I was told it was refunded. The customer service for this random app was the best part of the entire experience. Like I said I used to love this place and recommended it to everyone who came to visit. This visit was so bad that I'm done with it. DUTCH CRUNCH BABY! Sorry, anyway, just to let you know I am not a vegetarian and I am very critical of vegetarian dishes BUT Colombo's "Vegetarian" sandwich is really good.. ESPECIALLY with sharp white cheddar AND dutch crunch. Be sure to ask 'em to be light on the cucumbers because those things overpower the sandwich a bit with it's moisture and cold flavor. Why is it good? Because it has artichoke hearts, avocado, tangy mustard, grilled red peppers, and more stuff. It's pretty packed. Maybe next time i'll throw in some salami. Oh yeah. I've tried the roast beef sandwich and the clubhouse (ham, mayo, and more stuff)... all their sandwiches are large and packed to the max ($6 to $8). Colombo's deserves 5 stars for their freshly baked Dutch Crunch bread alone. Pacifica is very out of the way for me, but their sandwiches have always made the drive more than worth it. They are located in a strip mall next to a Safeway, so there's plenty of parking. However, the wait for our sandwich today (a Saturday around 12:30 pm) was over 45 minutes, when we were told the wait-time would be 20. If we return in the future, we will call for take out during our drive there. We always get the Club House sandwich, which is ham, turkey, and bacon with lettuce and tomato. We always add cranberry sauce and garlic spread, which take this sandwich to another level. The bacon is amazing quality- super thick-cut and not a ton of fat. The real game changer here is the house-made Dutch Crunch bread, which is always extremely fresh and has the perfect balance of sweetness and butteriness. SO good. We typically buy a whole loaf to-go. The sandwiches are huge, so I definitely recommend sharing with a friend, unless you want leftovers. Unfortunately they had a note taped on their cash register today that their oven wasn't working and that they are currently using bread from a local bakery. My boyfriend wanted to give this place one star, but I added a star as I did enjoy my sandwich and thought it had ample smoked salmon! I decided to try a different sandwich shop this time, and it was a big mistake. My boyfriend and I arrived and saw that Order Online was written largely on the window, so my boyfriend checked and confirmed they could only accept orders there. So we decided to head into next door Safeway so we could kill time as we wait for our order. I'm not sure if it was the WiFi, data, or the ordering platform (ChowNow), but my boyfriend and i used both our phones to try to order, but it took like more than 15 minutes to get our order finally processed. It took awhile for the screen to update to tell us when our 2 sandwiches would be ready (I got the Salmon Sandwich on Dutch Crunch while my boyfriend got the Steak Sandwich with added cucumbers on Dutch Crunch (ordered cold as it was an option on the platform)). Both came out to under $30 (pricey to me, but we did get Specialty Sandwiches, and they were all priced similarly, so might as well get what I want). After walking around for a bit we refreshed it, thinking that 2 sandwiches would take 20 minutes tops. It said it would be ready at 2:15pm, almost a whole hour from when we finally and successfully placed our order at 1:25pm. I know things are jumbled due to COVID and probably a lunch time rush, but almost a whole hour for sandwiches seemed incredulous, but we had no other choice to change our lunch plans due to other appointments and locations, etc. So we waited a bit in Safeway and in the car, and when our order was finally ready, I had my boyfriend fetch it while I was in the car. My boyfriend noted that there was a total of 6 staff facing customers, with more in the back. How could they take this long to make 2 sandwiches? Perhaps too many cooks in the kitchen? We rushed to our destination, and I enjoyed the quality and freshness of my sandwich, but my boyfriend said it was the worst sandwich he'd ever had. The sandwich came hot, which he requested cold (to be fair, I didn't think this type of sandwich could be avail cold, but it was offered as an option when he ordered), and the meat tasted old and the cheese was horrible. He was in a bad mood the rest of the day, and he did confirm it was due to the sandwich. I will not be back, sadly, despite the great reviews. I live in SF and I don't get down to the Pacifica area very much, but when I do, I try to make a stopover at Colombo's, as I've had great experiences there in the past (at least my last 5-6 visits in the last year). This time, something was off -- I ordered 2 roast beef sandwiches on Dutch Crunch with all the fixin's, with extra meat. I also bought potato salad and seafood salad. When I got home, the quantity of meat was only very marginally more than what I've ordered in the past for a regular-sized (no extra meat) sandwich. The roast beef itself tasted dry and a little chalky. Both the potato salad and the seafood salad were both a little bland. In the past, the flavors used to pop. Unfortunately, not this time. To top it off -- the employee who made my sandwich was aloof -- no eye contact, no acknowledgment of my requests, no smile, no gratitude for my business. This was all very strange to me. I can understand ONE of my orders being off, but ALL THREE? I am not giving up on this place. I'll give it another shot in the next couple of weeks. They are murdering diabetic people and I love it. I'm a diabetic soda addict. La Croix, Hint and many others have created the methadone of my people. Even just bubbling water helps. Their service has extremely gone down since Shelter in place. Today is the second time in 4 weeks that we experience delayed service! It's completely unacceptable to be told for 40 min that our order will be ready in "5min" - which was clearly a lie. My bf stood outside for 40 minutes until the order was finally ready. First, don't take orders you can't complete, secondly, just be honest when costumers are going in there checking on their orders. We relay on the time that is provided to feed ourselves. I came here specifically on the Yelp reviews and my love for sandwiches.....I was not impressed..... I walked in and found the little market and deli to be completely adorable. The service was friendly too......But the sandwiches were not the best I've had......I ordered the Godfather and my hubby ordered the Roast Beef Bomb......both were very very large sandwiches so that was a plus....but the flavors just weren't there for me......I love artichokes but there was so many on my sandwich that I couldn't even taste the meat.....Also the bread was hard and actually but my mouth....I'm a soft sandwich kinda girl..... read more
