    Potato & Egg Sub

My hometown hero. A staple since I was a kid, through high school into my yelp and foodie years. The colonial has seen me through it all. as a kid, I always used to get disco fries and as a teenager it was the ribeye steak sandwich late teens I was obsessed with the breakfast burger and now I just try something different almost every time. Today we got a breakfast sandwich for my partner who recently had surgery so we asked to get his sandwich Panini press to make it easier for him to bite and they did just that and the sweet woman at the front even checked to make sure they did. Our potato & egg sub loving bestie!! it just goes to show that this place goes above and beyond for all their customers, and the sandwich was perfect!!

I always enjoy a yummy dinner at Colonial Diner. It'd been awhile since I've been here. Things to know: -Small parking lot but can park on the street if full -They take Apple Pay -They have dinner specials -Huge dessert cake slices -Friendly service So I got the codfish with spinach and tomatoes over white rice. It was a bit bland but I still enjoyed it since I wanted to eat somewhat healthy lol. I kept stealing my husband's disco fries lol. The service is great here. I always enjoy what I order. I'd definitely come back!

Good efficient service , the THEC was good, this place was your typical NJ diner with the counter, stools, chrome and vinyl. It was decorated with international flags welcoming the World Cup.

Throughout the 20th century, diners flourished in New Jersey. Not only were they places to get an affordable meal, but they were also roadside attractions in their own right, thanks to their signature neon-lit metallic aesthetic that developed during the post-war years. Located in Lyndhurst just off of Route 3 on Orient Way, this establishment has been around since 1985. Gus's Colonial Diner is a 1950s train car-style diner with its sparkling, silver and crimson roof that has been renovated to maintain its retro vibe feel. My partner and I came tonight for dinner from our last visit 2 years ago. Upon entering the bright interior, highlighted by a long, spacious counter and round swivel stools, along with stainless steel wall panels and decorative tile, we were greeted by the host, Jim, who owns and operates the place along with his mother, Georgia, and got a table immediately in the corner with views of both dining areas. Their menu is extensive, much as one would expect from a solid Jersey diner featuring salads, sandwiches, triple-decker club sandwiches, specialty burgers, roasts, steaks, and seafood. For starters, I decided on a small cup of Chicken Noodle Soup. As our main meal, we opted for the Eggs Benedict with Avocado and Turkey Bacon as well as the Chicken Gyro Sandwich accompanied with Fries. Our meals were all prepared to absolute perfection, well seasoned, served hot, and delicious. The portions were huge and the price very reasonable. The staff were welcoming, attentive, and the service was fast. Diners are definitely a "Jersey Thing" which we continue to recommend.

I go to Colonial when I'm in the mood for a delicious eggs Benedict (they make the best, btw). Staff is friendly and full of regulars, which is always a good sign. Can't go wrong here with standard diner fare. Just go. You'll be glad you did. ENJOY!!!

One of my favorite diners. Owned/managed by two brothers. Food servers always great. Really enjoy having breakfast here. Love the eggs and french toast! Good parking and convenient location. Good value. Retro atmosphere.

Stopped by this old school looking diner while visiting New Jersey and it did not disappoint! Really great quality food and everything is very fairly priced. The service was very good as well, really pleased with our visit.

This is a classic old school diner, it feels like going back in time. I loved the red themed retro decor. The space is narrow but there's a good amount of seating. We came in before a funeral that was at the cemetery across from the diner. The service was friendly and pretty fast. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and French fries. The grilled cheese sandwich came with a lot of bacon and was very tasty. The fries were ok. The prices are reasonable and portions are generous.

This diner gets packed! The food is good and is ready pretty quickly. I ordered a waffle deluxe which included eggs, sausage, and bacon. The portion sizes are big so definitely arrive hungry.

    Eggs Benedict

Run of the mill diner, nothing really bad about it but nothing special. The friend I went with got corned beef hash and it was the corned beef hash that comes in a can which I am not a fan of so I'm glad I didn't order it. Eggs Benedict was mediocre, mound of Homefries under it made the eggs Benedict slide all over the place when I tried to cut it. Great classic diner atmosphere and service was great and very accommodating to my friends substitutions or additions but just wouldn't really recommend the place based off of what I had and the amount of other diners in the local area to try.

When we walked inside, we were seated immediately. I ordered the Garden Gathering omelette which normally comes with a side of homefries and toast. I substituted the homefries for a cup of fresh fruit. I also tried a small pancake from my mom which was very fluffy and light. The portions were pretty good and the food was fresh. The prices are reasonable. Service was prompt and the food came out fast once we ordered. When we were leaving there was a pretty large crowd waiting to be seated. Overall, it's a solid, classic breakfast spot right in the heart of downtown Rutherford.

Unfortunately, it just isn't anything special anymore. We stopped in for dinner and it wasn't crowded at all. The staff member clearing tables was attentive and quickly took our plates when we were finished but the overall atmosphere felt a little gloomy and somewhat unkempt. I ordered the chicken gyro which came with a cup of soup and fries. I chose the chicken vegetable soup and it was actually quite good. No complaints there. The gyro itself was generously filled but fairly average. The tzatziki was much thicker than I'm used to though it tasted fine. The fries were disappointing, although my husband pointed out that the ketchup may have been what threw off the flavor...I think he could be right. My husband ordered the BBQ brisket burger, and he said it tasted exactly how you'd expect a typical diner burger to taste. One thing we didn't like was that fries cost extra. In my opinion, they should be included with a burger. Overall, I'd recommend sticking to breakfast at Arlington Diner. That's where this place has always been at its best.
