We stopped into Colony on Friday morning for breakfast. There were a few people seated and they were doing a good amount of take out orders. The service was friendly and knowledgeable, and the diner gives a classic diner feel. There's plenty of food options for all times of the day, but it was breakfast time, so we ordered breakfast. Almost everything can be made gluten free, which is great. My husband ordered the Irish Benedict which was corned beef hash with eggs and hollandaise on toast with potatoes. I had an egg sandwich with bacon. It's classic diner fare. Large portions, and tasty food. Unfortunately, the issue comes at the price point. For standard diner fare, most breakfast items are $19. Plus a $2 up charge for gluten free. Our breakfast with coffee and a juice came out to $50 with tip. Seems a little steep for what we got. The family was famished after a trip to the New Haven area and we wanted some diner food, and Colony Diner came up. Pulled in shortly after 6:30 and just missed the early bird pricing! The place was about 80% full, and we were seated right away. When I think diner, I'm thinking outdated and just plain old, but that wasn't the case here. Perusing through the GIANT menu, I got the Reuben with corned beef and onion rings. The sandwich was a bit on the smaller side (especially compared to the panini my wife got) but it was delicious. What an insanely priced menu! I paid $7 for Campbell's quality soup. $10 for a grilled cheese with one piece of cheese? (See photo). Colony Diner has everything! I've never seen a menu so large like this one. From all things breakfast (pancakes, omelettes, french toast, breakfast quesadillas, etc), sandwiches, burgers, pasta, seafood, and on, there is something for everyone. They also have gluten-free and vegan options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There also was a case full of desserts: cakes and pies... Wished I had saved room for the Cannoli Pie! The prices were a little steep for certain items in my opinion, but everything is going up in price nowadays. The dining room was very cozy with large and roomy booths. The staff and servers were very friendly too. It had family diner feel, a great place to bring the kids. Colony Diner has won a few local awards and an obvious local favorite. The parking lot is always busy when we drive by. When we arrived, it was mid-morning and it was a full-house. We were seated very quickly and our server took our drink orders. My husband got a soda and I got a hot coffee. They had a server that looped around the diner filling up the coffee mugs frequently--I thought that was so smart. I was in the mood for breakfast and ordered the Southwestern Omelette that had black beans, tomatoes, spinach, avocado, and cheddar cheese. It was served with salsa, sour cream, home fries and toast. My husband got the Crispy Chicken and Cheese Wrap that came with french fries, coleslaw and a pickle. The food was your average diner food, but I think my omelette could have used more seasoning. The prices have been going up steadily one gluten-free pancake, albeit the size of a plate, was nine dollars and a cup of tea four dollars. I wish it was closer to me so I can get the soup more often. It's a vegetable soup with a vegan broth. I didn't care for the Panini. It was a California Panini, but I substituted vegan chicken and no bacon. It could be just that I needed to eat something lighter. My husband got a tuna wrap with the vegetable soup on the side. Diners remind me of high school gatherings with friends eating fries with gravy and drinking coke. We typically avoid due to shared cooking areas but a friend recommended colony, I was surprised to see all the gluten free options and separate cooking area so we gave it a try. It was pretty busy on a Sunday morning at 10. We were able to get seated quickly though. My Child ordered a gluten-free waffle, I wish I could show you a picture of it but it was gone pretty quickly. They had a whole page for Vegans, and gluten-free options as well! But at 1030 at night I just wanted something, anything ! So I decided to go for GF French toast! Came here late on a Sunday evening. So many options that reading the menu was almost overwhelming. I loved that they have vegan and gluten-free options clearly listed. The prices were a bit more than what I expected; however, the portions were pretty big. I ordered for pickup. The staff was nice. My nightmare began when I got home. The steak and cheese sandwich was awful. Four tiny wedges of sadness for nearly 20 dollars. As you can see in the picture, it is A TINY sandwich, with little substance. Each wedge measures about 2 inches by 1 inch (not exaggerating) in the shape of a triangle. Despite being a triple-decker, there was very little on the sandwich. The "steak" on the sandwich was not even deli meat. I wasn't expecting a quality cut of beef, and i was CERTAINLY not expecting something worse than what can be found at a subway. If this is what they call "steak" I can only imagine that they're putting used shoe leather on the "roast beef" sandwich. We love Colony Diner, it has an absolutely huge vegan menu that is super tasty. The prices for a diner are $5 above on every item however, even non vegan. We have visited this diner a handful of times. We hadn't dined here in a while but it was convenient and we figured everyone would be able to order something. We were treating my mother in law so we had really talked up the place in the car. When we arrived we had a choice of eating inside or outside. There was a large tent set up out front for outdoor dining. We opted to eat inside, as it was a particularly warm afternoon. Right away, we noticed changes to the staff and the menus...and then we saw the prices. This was the biggest shock to us. They have added what looks to be an amazing vegan menu. Nobody was thrilled with their meal, I can only speak for the Swedish Meatballs. I don't eat pasta often, so this was a treat for me. I had the choice of soup or salad, so I chose the Avgolemono (Greek Lemon Chicken Soup). This murky, chunky soup was a total disappointment. I also didn't get a vegetable with my meal, so I would've been better off with the salad. When my meal was served, I noticed that the noodles were cold and the gravy looked like a basic brown gravy. With my first bite the meatball texture was good, but I could not detect any nutmeg or allspice. The gravy was flavorless and if there was any sour cream, I couldn't taste it. I ate the meatballs and left the cold noodles behind. The saving Grace of this meal was the coconut cake. Unfortunately, it's a bit out of our price rage, at $98 for a meal without appetizers or drinks and only one dessert. read more

Have been going to this place on and off for the past 10 years- positives are that portion sizes are generally pretty large, food is generally decent. This place can get pretty busy on the weekend. The menu is quite large with many vegan and gluten free options. I will agree with those that say this menu is very pricey for a diner- I've seen people take one look at the menu and leave. Prices are even more expensive if you sub sides. One drawback that comes with plenty of variety is that I would question how fresh some of the meat/soup/ sauce is. I've had the sandwiches and gravy previously and although they weren't bad, they weren't quite fresh tasting. Generally pretty clean but might be a good idea to clean the syrup/ ketchup bottles a little more. Not loud but definitely busy. As a vegan of many years, I love their vegan breakfast: pancakes, french toast and the impossible burger are my favorite. I've also had the tofu scramble a handful of times but it's very bland, and can use a little bit more salt and spices to help with flavor.
