Not that great haven't had it in a while and quite honestly no rush to go back ordered two toppings which are additional $1.75- well one was bacon and I had to find it- seriously look for it - found it on the outer edge of two pieces and found a random piece : so I paid almost 13 bucks for my pizza which I don't think was worth it. I've had their pizza twice - one on-site and one was take-out. Overall, it is not my favorite style of pizza (very thin crust, not much cheese/sauce), but think it is decent for a lunch. I added the mushrooms and stingers (spicy green pepper) on my pizza, but did not like the stingers at all. They did not have a good flavor and were just a bit too mushy/spicy. Note that this place ONLY has pizza, so don't expect to eat anything else but that. It's is a bit too much for one person (unless you are really hungry), but they only serve one size. The service was a bit slow, but we did get to sit outside and enjoy the weather. It's a decent spot to go with some co-workers if you wanted to get a couple drinks and eat pizza. It would not be my first choice if I wanted to get pizza, but wouldn't mind coming back if it was for an outing. read more

This place is perfect for what it is, a pizza (only) joint! This is a great spot to grab a pie and a beer (or cider in my case) and their menu is simple and delicious. The hot oil pizza was REALLY good, you can tell that they put a lot of effort into making it and although I couldn't explain to you exactly what it is, our waitress recommended it and we loved it. We also got another pizza with meatballs, peppers, and onions, we also really enjoyed this pizza!!! It has an old school dive bar vibe, super nice wait staff, great spot! The atmosphere of Colony grill is filled with an old school authentic Irish bar vibe which specializes in thin crust pizza. I ordered two pies from here, a pepperoni + hot oil and a half sausage + mushroom. Both were very good with a nice thin crispy crust. The bottom was perfectly golden. The cheese to crust ratio is 50-50 with a touch of sauce. Perfect pizza size for an individual. The negatives: Not so great parking on busy nights, long waits for your pizza, less than stellar wait staff and limited options on the menu (they only serve pizza). Despite the negatives its all about the pizza which is great, uniquely prepared with LOTS of crispiness, you are going to be very happy. read more

Always a hit! Delicious pizza. Always consistent and orders correct. A perfect bar pie! It's an acquired taste as not your run of mill Greek or New Haven style pie. Crust is totally different. Give it a try can't go wrong. Only issue in Milford location -- lack of parking and not always accurate w pick up times especially during busy peak hours. The pizza is good if you like thin personal pizza nothing crazy impressive but you will crave it once you've had it. Definitely does NOT compare at all to new haven pizza but it is basic and good. There is nothing but pizza there so if you want any apps or desserts they don't have them. It is a little pricey for what you're getting $2 extra per topping and the pizza is very thin and small. I've had a pleasant experience with waitstaff on the patio however the staff inside was particularly rude. Since we are in a pandemic only the patio dining is open, 5 of us had gone on a week night and all gotten our owns pizzas and drinks, I went inside to use the bathroom and saw a sign that said "section closed" I immediately thought that must just mean the dining room and i looked around and saw no one to ask so I walked up to the women's room. Once I came out 2 girls gave me glaring looks so I stopped and said "omg I'm so sorry was that not okay?" They rudely replied back "um nooooo it wasn't, we'll just clean it i guess" and continued to stare and talk about me as i walked away. Not explaining my error or what the policy was. Upon returning to my table my friends told me there was another bathroom when you walked in to the right they wanted people to use (they had only known this because someone inside directed them when I walked in there was no one in sight). There is no sign for this bathroom - i had no idea they even had another bathroom my instinct obviously went to the large women's bathroom sign. It's not a big deal and it was my mistake but the rudeness from the staff made it seem like I committed a crime. It was obviously confusing where to go with no sign and no one inside. You would think during a pandemic people would be kinder towards each other (especially since we are coming out to eat at their establishment during all of this) and they would just explain to me nicely but no. So for this alone I will not be returning it made be feel very uncomfortable. read more

They only offer pizza as the food offering. That's their deal. I wish I had read the table menu before I pestered the bartender with questions about other food and salad makings. She wasn't annoyed she just explained that they only did pizza. I did enjoye the thin crust bacon pizza we got. I used my fork and knife because it came out piping hot from the oven and I just can't wait when melty cheese is set before me. The outside patio is very nice. It's set up as though it were in doors with a regular ceiling and frame work with wooden beams. Just no walls on 3 sides. They have a good assortment of craft beers; Two Roads, Half Full, Captain Lawrence Brewing. White wine choices are good but not plentiful as is to be expected at a casual bar. read more

The pizzas came out fairly fast once we were seated. I ordered a hot oil Pizza with cherry peppers and my girlfriend got a plain hot oil Pizza. Both came with a "stinger" - I think it's a Serrano pepper - in the center. It was very spicy! Once it cooled down the taste was amazing so if I were you I would try to wait a bit. This is a pretty neat find in downtown Milford. If you're simply looking for pizza and beer this is your spot. The restaurant is pretty big with indoor, outdoor, or take out dining options. If I had to choose I'd enjoy the outdoor patio the most if the weather allows. There are bars both inside and out so you won't be missing out by choosing one over the other. I've visited the location now twice. Once for lunch outside and the second for dinner at the bar inside while football was on. I was surprised to see that they use paper plates both inside and out. Not sure why they do this but they should have better quality plates as the grease tends to soak into the plate and its crumbling while you're trying to eat. (That's the reason I took a star away, just not a fan of the paper plates) The service both times has been very good. The servers and bartenders were very attentive. Prices are also pretty good. I believe a standart pizza starts around $9 and goes up depending how many toppings you add on. The location is very clean including the restrooms. Overall a very nice place to come with the family or to watch a game. read more

I have been obsessed with Colony for years but my obsession got even bigger once I moved out west to California and realized the pizza sucks here. I am constantly thinking or talking about colony and how delicious their pizza is. While visiting Connecticut this past week, I made sure I went to colony as many times as possibly. every single visit was great. I've come here with my pregnant wife three times in last month. Great food, baby will be happy. Also, nice staff, prompt service and reasonable prices. Also SIMPLE MENU! Say goodbye to tyranny of choice! The salad pizza is surprisingly good and you can convince your self you are eating healthy just like when you eat McDonalds salads. Overall a great experience and great pizza , considering we are New Havenites used to the famous New Haven pizza. We will probably be back multiple times in third trimester. read more

Bar pizza is not like what most people think of as pizza.. especially this close to New Haven. This pizza is thinner, with an almost cracker-like crust. But I enjoyed it. Maybe part of it was sitting outside on the patio on a beautiful night with a nice cold beer, but I really like this pie. I tried the hot oil pizza. It was good, but not great. It's a good bar pie to soak up that selection of beer they offer. As for a great pizza, not so much. Just my opinion, but I've had better hot oil pizza at other local places. The crust was crispy, oily. The sauce was on the sweet side. But the actual hot oil was disappointing. I like a hot oil pizza with heat. I was expecting to sweat it out seeing that the infamous pepper was centered into the pie. I don't understand why people love this place and rate it so highly. Let's start with the draft beers. I got a Downeast Cider and that glass was like half a pint. The pizza is ok but way overpriced priced. $12.95 for a salad pizza. Literally bread with a super basic salad on it. Just a ton of lettuce, not chopped, and like 4 cherry tomatoes with a few slices of cucumber and some shredded carrots. Then I ordered a pizza to go for my husband. Asked for meatball and cherry peppers. Didn't realize I ordered 1 meatball, not even sure it was even 1 whole meatball. Just a few scattered tiny lumps of ground meat. And maybe the equivalent of 2 cherry peppers chopped up. Ended up having to cook some more toppings when I got home. I will give them that the gluten free crust is tasty and has a nice texture. Otherwise, I really don't get the hype. 10 minutes down 95 and you can have Pepe's, Sally's, Modern or Bar Pizza. read more

I like trying different pizza places and growing up in New Haven I'm an admitted pizza snob. I will say this, the restaurant has a great location and atmosphere. Staff super friendly but if your looking for a New Haven type pizza, this doesn't come close. We ordered a mushroom and onion and anchovies with no cheese, just sauce. To me pizza should be doughy not break off into pieces. It was like eating an unsalted cracker.When we were through, the pan literally had crumbs in it. The bill was 39.98. We had 2 Schaffer cans and a draft cider. I had 2 large Pepes pies delivered for that price. read more

I have absolutely no idea why people like this place. The 2 is because the decor and vibe are nice and when you go at night for drinks it is fun. The food is absolutely nothing special in the slightest. The crust is this thin, cracker crust with the tiniest layer of sauce and sprinkling of cheese plus a few toppings. There is nothing to this pizza. The crust doesn't have any chew and there isn't enough sauce at all. I am actually blown away with how popular it is because I would hands down take just about any frozen pizza over this place. If you want anything remotely healthy you have to get salad on TOP OF YOUR pizza. They don't even have a side salad option. The gluten free crust adds like $4 or $5 on top of the price of the normal pie so it isn't economical at all. Honestly skip this place. read more

I've been eating Colony for decades, just recently had stinger pies at the milford and fairfield locations. Did something change? I can eat death peppers, but the heat on the stingers is through the roof. Still taste great but the heat is super extreme to the point it hurts your tongue. I shit violently 5/6 times the next day after each visit. My ass stung too! Usually its just a splat after a coffee the next morning but I had problems all day. I've always loved their gluten free pizza but tonight it wasn't the same. Typically cracker thin like the regular pies, but the dough was thick and seemed underdone. Maybe they changed the base? I had no experience with the other locations, so my expectations were shaped only by the restaurant's name and decor. The Colony Grill looks like a beautiful Irish pub - the kind of place you expect to spend a long time chatting over Guinness and a burger. 1) You can't chat because the acoustics are terrible. 2) They pour a Guinness so it's all foam. 3) You can't have a burger because pizza is the ONLY item on the menu. Putting expectations aside, the gluten free pizza was quite good - GF crust usually falls apart, but this crust was actually better than the wheat crust. Let me rephrase that; the GF crust was good, and the standard crust was not as good as the frozen pizzas I buy at Target. I recommend this place for customers with wheat allergies or celiac - the bar even has GF beer. Everyone else can find better pizza elsewhere. read more

I don't care that this place isn't anything like my beloved Pepe's. I don't care that all they have on the menu is pizza. You know what it is...when you go there.....and it's always consistent. I want to drink a lot of beer....I want to eat a lot of pizza....I want to come home with my fingertips smelling of bacon and onion and my stomach perhaps, maybe knowingly beginning to grumble after I consumed too much hot oil. It's crisp. It's flavorful. It's sober and drunk food all in the same token. It is hard to give an accurate grade to this place. Since it is a restaurant, I will start with the food - we ordered several pizzas for our large party. We loved every one of them. We had one with hot oil and sausage, one plain cheese, one with bacon and meatball and one with mushroom, onion and black olives. All came hot, crispy and delicious. We would have liked a few more toppings, but we like a lot of toppings on our pizza. I was surprised, however, that the pizza was served on cheap mini paper plates that became grease soaked with the first slice. Our server was VERY friendly, and fun, as were all the staff we encountered. Helpful and welcoming, which was a great surprise. Our server got our drinks promptly and had a good knowledge of the menu. On the down side, we were kind of annoyed that when anyone in our party finished their drink, the empty was grabbed right away with no offer for a refill - we chalked this up to working out the kinks and were able to get our server to bring more pretty quickly. The one thing, though, that really made us second guess ever going back was that the place is incredibly loud; maddeningly, deafeningly, overwhelmingly loud. When you first walk in, you are slammed with this wall of sound that prevents you from hearing any kind of welcoming from the host. Once seated, you need to literally yell your conversation, which after 30 minutes becomes frustrating because you can't hear any of your party's responses. My ears are still ringing from the experience. Maybe it isn't as bad on the patio bar, but inside is simply a cacophonous sound catastrophe. Bottom line is that we all agreed we would get carry out from Colony, but likely would not head back for dinner and drinks any time soon. read more

For months, I was very excited to see that Colony was opening in Milford. I went there this past weekend. The place was very crowed with people on the outside patio, and, the inside seating area. The pizza was below average. All they serve is the 12" pizza, paper thin, no crust, and, I thought pricey. The crust was like cardboard, with no taste. I had better frozen pizza then what they offer here. The service was very good, with the waitress checking frequently to see if you needed anything else. That was the only positive experience. Last, you need to go to Rosetta Stone to see if they offer a lip reading course. The noise level is unbelievable, and, you simply can't hear anything. They should try putting in noise resisters that other restaurants use. Overall, a very bad experience, bad food, and a very loud place. read more

It's a nice place to hang out, especially in the summer when the weather's nice and you can enjoy a craft beer on the patio with friends. Inside it's a big cavernous room and when the place is busy it's tough to have a conversation. The pizza is not bad. But it's not like New Haven pizza good. It's a very decent, handmade thin-crust pizza that is delivered with a smile, but don't let all the five-star ratings let you anticipate a religious experience. Big D wanted to like this place in a big way. However, I was truly underwhelmed. The building was gorgeous. Nice atmosphere and very tastefully decorated. Thats where the compliments end. Menu was very minimalistic. If you are going to feature one or two items, they better be amazing. I went for a standard pizza. Just mozz and sauce. The sauce was tasteless. The cheese was average at best. The crust was so thin and crunchy, it tasted like a cracker. I do not know what they were attempting to achieve, but the pizza was a big fail. I guess they are famous in Stamford for soaking the pizza in oil. The oil thing did not work for me. It made the pizza greasy and sloppy. You may be able to get away with the oil thing in Stamford, but this is New Haven County! There are way to many great pizza restaurants in this area (Pepes, Modern, Mikes, Zuppardis, Reno's, Bar, etc.) to ever have a reason to return to Colony for a pie. Another restaurant we were planning to go to was closed, so we decided to try this newly opened joint. The decor is fun, modern and spacious. The space used to be a hardware store, which you can see in old photos and the cool "hardware" sign hanging prominently. That's the best part of the restaurant. I ordered a martini, and asked if they had cucumbers, but they said no. However, there is cucumber in one of their salad pizzas. When we mentioned this, the waitress said she usually can't bring things that are not already part of the menu, but she was able to "sneak it out" and bring me some anyway. Ok.... Just a heads up, they only serve pizza. We didn't know that going in, but that's fine. We ordered the salad pizza and a pepperoni. The crusts were nice and crispy. However, as we were eating them, we thought the dough was probably previously frozen, because both pizzas were perfectly circular, and the cheese looked like it already came on the pizza. It's disappointing, as there are so many great pizza places in the area and the dough here doesn't even seem fresh. We went to seven seas for nachos after, and immediately wished we ate there instead. read more

Onto the space: they did a fantastic job on this building. Clearly no expense was spared, and the outdoor bar/patio is fantastic. I'm really impressed by the job they did here, and the owners showed respect for the city and downtown all along the way. It could've gone the other way very easily when building on top of a landmark like Harrison's. I'm just glad a bustling restaurant has replaced the sad shadow of its former self. The pizza is expected from Colony. A bit crispier than what I recall from Stamford, so that's good. It's not great, it's good pizza. I actually think it's perfect for a night out, because it's not too heavy and it's super thin. It's a cracker-like, extremely thin crust. The beer selection is acceptable, with welcome local offerings from Two Roads in Stratford. I'd like to see the list a bit more diversified, and some unique beers rotated in. More microbrews, please. Service was pretty solid for a new opening. Are there better choices for pure pizza in Milford? Absolutely. But Colony offers something unique, both in atmosphere and the pizza itself. It's spicy and delicious! They only make one size pizza there. It costs nine dollars and you add a dollar or so for each topping. THE BEST PIZZA IN CONNECTICUT (NO COMPETITION!) The hot oil pizza is possibly the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. OK, so it's long been established that Connecticutians are pizza snobs. We're allowed to be, right? This is not Pepe's, Sally's, Modern or any of the other New Haven varieties. This is just some good old fashioned pizza done right. They don't make a clam pizza that will blow your mind or roll out some great brick oven pizza that will have you drooling before you even walk in the door. It's not THAT kind of joint. So, now that we've removed the great God like pizza joints... let's talk. This is hands down way better than anything Bella Napoli or any local joint puts out. The only competition to this place is Michael Anthony's and that's specific to those who like a thicker pizza and a very defined crust. Colony puts out a pizza that is thin, crispy, and most importantly - not oily. There is nothing worse than having an oil slick on your pizza because they used some cheap mozzarella. The service here is always impeccable and pizzas come out of the oven pretty quickly even if they're slammed. They have a great beer selection and a warm and inviting atmosphere that serves well both for families and late night visits. My only piece of advice is to order more pizza than you think you'll eat. The pizza comes in one size and I could easily eat half a pizza by myself. read more

The pizza here is very interesting. And I truly mean that. I went with the Hot oil and Sausage pie. This place is known for their hot oil pizza, so I had to give it a try. The pizza has a very distinct flavor with the hot oil. I don't even know how to explain it. It was very different. I would definitely try it again. I got through the whole pie by myself.
