I considered a Five Star review for Colony Seafood & Steakhouse but just a couple of small issues prevented a full five star rating. This is a hidden gem not far from the Sunset Bay beach bar area. There's a cool old-school bar onsite, but I did not sit at the bar this time. We arrived right around 5:00 and it was not busy yet but started picking up shortly after we arrived. The service was fantastic. Our server was at our table in under one minute requesting our drink order. My wife ordered prime rib and I ordered filet. Both came with a salad and twice-backed potato included, so that was nice since so many steakhouses upcharge. Warm bread was also served. Salads were basic but fresh and the dressings were apparently homemade and both delicious. I might suggest requesting dressing on the side, they did not skimp on it. Both of our steaks were of exceptional quality. My wife's prime rib was perfectly medium rare, as was my filet. My only issue with the food was that the twice-baked potato was luke-warm. It really would have made a difference if it was piping hot, or even just hot enough to melt butter. I suspect they have a large quantity of them-pre cooked and waiting to go since they are included with each dinner. The other minor issue was the air conditioning in the building did not seem to be up to the task of battling the 90 degree heat outside. We were a bit uncomfortable. It is an older building, but I think a fine steakhouse should invest their facility in this regard for the comfort of both the paying customers and employees. Service is always top notch. Wait staff are knowledgeable and friendly. During the summer season I would say it's a good idea to have reservations but they will try to accommodate you. The in-house bread is so good but, do fill up on it. We've been going there for years and have never had a bad meal. You really can't go wrong with the specials. Steak Neptune is heavenly. By far the nicest restaurant in the Irving area. My family has been coming to the Colony since my Dad moved to Silver Creek about five or six years ago and we've honestly never been disappointed. I last dined at the Colony last night (Saturday, August 1) and would recommend making a reservation due to the social distancing/COVID precautions that are in place (limited seating). The only reservation available for us was 7:15pm so we were extra hungry upon arrival! Our waitress (whose name I sadly forgot) was fantastic. From her Gilmore Girls mask to ensuring each and every course was to our liking - she was very attentive. We started with a bottle of wine (decent wine list, cocktails, beers, etc.) and ordered a few appetizers including the clams casino and the crab and lobster cakes. My Dad ordered a crock of the French onion soup. Then came our salads... and of course bread for the table... Then our entrees... I ordered the 10 oz. Filet Mignon (cooked rare) and it actually came out decently rare - woo! Of course, I was getting pretty full and was unable to finish the entire entree and completely neglected to leave room for dessert, boo. Anyway, there is plenty of free parking, a large dining area, a bar area, and a menu with a lot of variety although the focus is definitely on the steak and seafood. Even with COVID-19 among us, our waitress was so friendly. My only "complaint" is the price/cost but for the most part, you get what you pay for. read more

The side salad was iceberg lettuce with one slice of tomato, a sizeable loaf of bread was served... A mound shaped but it seemed as though it was only partially baked it was a pale white color and a bit gummy inside. I got the feeling that it came frozen. mixed vegetables that were obviously dumped out of a frozen bag, no butter or sauce. My partner scallops were very gelatinous and seemed undercooked. We occasionally have driven up to this restaurant. It's a long route five & from the outside looks like a pretty common place bar and restaurant. Nothing elegant or fancy. Very noisy. The food is hit or miss. Somethings can be reasonably well done and others dreadful. The one consistent thing is if their prices are sky high. Their prime rib yesterday was $43. Absolutely no justification. Their blackened catfish was $29 which should be about 12 to 15. The list goes on. They aggressively will not except American Express credit cards although virtually every other dining facility in western New York does. Most certainly it's because I AMEX charges a slightly greater percentage to process the charges. It's ironic that one of the restaurant with the most inflated prices "nickels and dimes" customers for a few percentage points. They actually can't except AMEX but aggressively discourage it charging the servers a staggering 10% off the bill for every card they process. This penalize is the server and it impacts the customers. We got a mouthy lecture from the server yesterday and we were rudely admonished to never use it again in this restaurant. I think that was the last straw for us. We go out to eat 2 to 4 times a week but I can guarantee you we will not be back to the Colony restaurant in Irving. Their parking lot is almost never full. I can understand it. I would rather spend my money in places that have reasonable prices, high-quality food and happy smiling waitstaff not grumble bumpkins. read more

I keep meaning to review this place but I never remember to take pictures of my food before we eat because it is truly a place you enjoy the company of who you are with and enjoy an intimate meal together. We came here for dinner a while ago and couldn't have been more disappointed. my boyfriends shrimp pasta was over cooked and cold. My fish was good but the veggies in the side and in the dish tasted like freezer! Nothing was seasoned. It was like they just threw frozen vegetables on the plate without even heating them or throwing salt on them at the very least! They were watery and flavorless. Our waitress was very inattentive even though it was pretty dead in there. And even the girl walking around with the water pitcher passed up my boyfriends completely empty glass multiple times. What made it worse was our bill! We spent a pretty penny on food that was hardly even edible. For many years, we have passed by the Colony Restaurant. The review for the restaurant in the Buffalo News last fall mentioned so many different entrees that sounded wonderful. We ordered a side salad (lettuce) and crab cakes. The crab cakes were mostly made of bread crumbs around one or two pieces of very small lobster/crabmeat. Not what we expected. Not impressed at all! Starting with the bagged salad of iceberg lettuce down to the main meal down to the service. I had the tornadoes torpedoes something like that..... 2 filet medallions with broiled shrimp and scallops. The scallops were like rubber balls totally disgusting. The shrimp, flavorless. The steak, also flavorless. I feel like they put it all in a pot of boiling water and cooked it and threw it on the plate. Very expensive meal.... Atmosphere ,very old used,and dated. After living in this area my entire life and particularly in Silver Creek for over ten years - we finally went to the Colony - to celebrate my wife's birthday. I called ahead - made reservations and looked forward to our first trip into what appears to be the classiest place in town. Please note that this review is based on ONE visit! We were greeted very nicely and taken to a reserved table - perhaps not the best spot for a little birthday celebration, but it was still nice and warm - if that matters to anyone reading this review. We ordered an appetizer of calamari, which was overcooked and a bit on the rubbery side, but I managed to eat it - was a bit salty as well. My wife's salad could have been a bit fresher too - she didn't finish it, but I tasted it and agrees - though the ranch dressing was really good! He seafood jambalaya was really good and really spicy - very large portion too - we took some home. My scallops were good, but a bit on the sickening side as there was way too much butter and cream sauce on top of seared/fried scallops :( Also - my soup, which was Italian sausage with kale and potatoes was EXCELLENT! The service was mediocre - at first it was great, but as the place filled up - the service quickly went downhill and I had to even asked for a refill on my water. The total bill was $91.00 without tip! MY wife had two drinks and I had an ice tea - a cup of soup, a side salad and two entrees - with one dessert that was cold and a bit dry, but they brought it to us with a candle - nice touch for the birthday - nothing was comped though so don't think you get a free dessert because it's your birthday! BTW - my twice baked potato was more like a lazy twice baked potato - the baked potato was slice and mashed potatoes were placed on top and baked - oddest one I've ever had and absolutely no flare for anything. I really did expect more, but will return to check out the steaks! There is plenty of free parking - plenty of items to pick from - something obviously for everyone, prices are generally decent and they do have specials. For Irving this is as good as it gets. High end diner at its best. Menu is basic with all the classic favorites. I had the Lobster bisque, a house salad, and a king cut prime rib. The Lobster bisque was below average. Lacking the bisque texture, was more of a broth then bisque, and missing the lobster chunks themselves. House salad was what I expected. Old iceberg lettuce that was sitting in the cooler all week, simple cabbage and carrot mixed into the lettuce, and cherry tomatoes with hidden valley ranch dressing. King cut prime rib was the only thing that statisfied my taste buds. Prime rib was cooked to the temperature I asked for and was a generously thick cut and the cut did not have an over powering amount of fat attached to it. Baked potato was tender and my carrots were cooked perfectly. One thing that really turned me off was the horrible service we received that night. Waitress was grumpy and you could tell she didn't want to come to work that day. She should have stayed home and saved us all the experience of her horrible service. read more

While the food was fantastic here, our experience was less than spectacular. Service was extremely slow, waited forever for everything. Even after we voiced our concern that we needed to get back on the road and needed to just get to-go boxes because we had been here for so long, nothing happened any faster. Our waitress had 3 tables and apologized because she was very busy. Prices were VERY high. $81 for 2 pasta dinners and 2 drinks. But I will reiterate..food was amazing. With the prices they charge, they should certainly consider updating their 80's decor as well. This got 2 stars due to ridiculously slow service, high prices and drab out-of-date decor. read more

We had lunch at the colony restaurant for a post funeral reception. As always everything was very well done. The restaurant was clean and nicely set up on arrival. We had a buffet style luncheon that included green salad, roast beef on Weck with horseradish, rigatoni ("The best rigatoni I ever had" according to my husband) ham steak, fruit salad, potato salad, strawberry-blueberry shortcake with whipped cream and the biggest Chocolate chip cookies I ever saw. Everything was delicious and the service was wonderful. The servers were helpful and happy. This restaurant has a full bar. They can accommodate gatherings of all kinds. They are handicapped accessible with a large clean bathroom. They have a big parking lot. They are located right on route 5 and 20 in Irving New York. They have a full menu including steak and seafood. It's a great place to go. Reservations are needed on busy days like Friday Saturday and Big holidays like Mother's Day,Easter and Father's Day. read more

First timer....as a person who was in the service industry for yearssss I am overall so disappointed. It was valentine's day....it took 30 minutes for us to get bread with no butter and then another 30 minutes to get salads. My salad was not brought until way later however the rest of the table got theirs even after me telling someone i never got mine. Half way through the meal we had a server change but we were never made aware of this. It would have been curteous if they would have at least let us know this was happening. We were so upset...people were getting sat... ate their meal and even were leaving all around us and we still didnt get our food. We joked about leaving and going to burger king but who wants a whopper on valentines day ..not me! Iwill say that the salmon was to die for...hence the two stars. Someone should have at least applogized for the wait...we wont be back... so sad. We were so hungry and waited so long...about 2 hours....that we filled up on bread and none of us could finish our meal. Our bill was approx 500 for 6 people and what a waste ...no one likes reheated lobster :( read more
