And, they are spending their weekends and evenings making sure the animals get spayed, neutered and adopted. Our puppy is a joy, and, as far as the adoption process, they made it as easy as possible. They scanned us and the pup very thoroughly to ensure a good match and gave us time to make sure we both matched. They are saving lives, and we were so happy to find them and add our pup to our family.

When we adopted her July of 2011, thanks to David S.'s recommendation, she was just over a pound and tiny. The vet said he doubted she was a full eight weeks and she was a tad underweight but she had been spayed and her little baby belly had a little tiny stitch in it which healed nicely. She had a little bit of a goopy eye that she got drops for and it cleared up. Our vet gave her the initial exam for free because she was a rescue and gave her a clean bill of health. We began the fatten-up-baby-Leeloo project and now she is still small, but her proper, almost adult weight. Let's just say, she is the prefect match for our family and my heart is warmed every single time I see her especially when she crawls on my chest to wake me in the morning to point out the fact she is a Supreme Being - the Fifth Element and needs chicken. I hardly remember life without her now.

We applied that night, someone reached out within a couple of hours, and by the next day, he was a part of our family. We've had him for two weeks, and he's amazing. So nice to have the dogs in foster care before you get them. It allows the foster to really get to know the dog's personality better than if they're in a shelter, so they can help match the right dog to the right person/family. Love our sweet Gaucho!

The director said the cat she was interested in wasn't up for adoption yet and she would have to wait. After many days of my mom calling and talking to the lady she basically said that the cat was already hers she just had to wait for him to be available. Today my mom called the shelter again and the director said THAT THEY GAVE THE CAT AWAY!!!! my mom was so devastated. We just lost our family dog and she was so excited and looking forward to getting a new cat. The director said it was because they had heard my mom say she was going to make it an outdoor cat, WHICH IS COMPLETELY FALSE. first, my mom would never do that. She specifically wants a cuddly indoor kitty as a companion, second the shelter specifically said she cant have an outdoor cat and my mom agreed with that part of the contract. It makes absolutely no sense. I could tell from the very beginning something was off about this rescue and I was right. I'm not sure what they're doing over there but whatever it is it's not good. We will probably be getting in contact with a lawyer. DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE!!!

This was about 2 days before Christmas. I was contacted by one of their adoption coordinators not long after and by New Year's Day I was having a meet-and-greet with my potential kitty. Meet and greet went awesome and I signed the adoption papers that day. In less than a week I'd found my new buddy! The adoption cost ($75) covered neuter, vaccines, microchip and more. I felt great knowing I was rescuing a safe and healthy animal. His foster mom was fantastic as were all the Pawsco people I interacted with. Everyone was very helpful and responsive - it was an easy process and I would recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a pet.

Well, we did change his name, though…read more Max to Maxx to honor the dog named for the meeting room we met in.;-) And he just requested we add another name so he is MISO HAPPY. Because he is. I am, too. ;) Room 19 on 4/19, Patriots' Day. Ortensio as the male version of Ortensia, the hyacinth flower name from the Humane Colorado woman who is from Barcelona. Ortensia orchestrated my having first visit with Maxx. The couple who signed in before me as I was negotiating finding a shoe substitute (it took me awhile) kindly said "He's yours." How right they were. How right was Ortensia. And Miso for the soup I was to deliver but the friend was too sick so I went to the Humane Society instead. Six year old Maxx entered the room. After 5 days of yapping at visitors he quietly sat at my feet for a bit ....and then jumped into my arms and fell asleep as I patted him. With a calm reserve. Welcome home, Maxx! YAY! I get to finally write a review on 4P4L!!…read more We found 4P4L due to a Petfinder search back in 2021. The dog we initially adopted wasn't good with our cats even though he was fine in his foster home with the resident cat. 4P4L understood and we were able to return him. They had asked me to write an updated bio for him so that potential adopters would get a better understanding of his demeanor. He was such a sweet dog but my cats weren't his thing, which wasn't his fault in the slightest. I wrote the bio and he got adopted. I was then asked to volunteer and become a foster, so we started fostering. A 3 day sleepover for a foster pup is how we started and since 2021, we have fostered over 100 dogs and volunteer at adoption events. While it is so tempting to adopt all our fosters, we know we're just helping them adjust to home life. There have been a few that we invoked the 6 month rule: if we have the pup for 6 months, we would adopt him/her because at 6 months, you're a part of our pack. Last month, there was a need to foster these 2 rottie pups because it was time for them to separate from their momma and momma needed a break. Rotties are one of our preferred breeds! Well, we invoked the 6 DAY rule knowing that the pups would be adopted within the week. So that's it! That's how we got our Saoirse! Even if you cannot adopt, please think about volunteering with us or becoming a foster! A little weekend break from the kennel is what all the dogs need and you may just invoke your own 6 day rule!!

We arrived and she comes out to us, UNBATHED, UNGROOMED and she SMELLED awful. She had diarrhea all over her rear end and she was SO terrified, she was shaking and pooped in the girls arms as she was carrying her. It was OBVIOUS that not ONE person had worked with her, bathed her or groomed her since she arrived at this facility! Just put her up on line and waited for someone to adopt her. Clearly NOT in it for the welfare of these animals. Just the money. Never an apology or explanation for this. No follow up phone call to see how she was adjusting. NOTHING. Based on everything here, we DO NOT RECOMMEND this rescue. They are SHAMEFUL!

It is not the shelter itself that is the issue, and the shelter is doing such good work! Truly! We have done multiple donations to TCRAS financially as well as with supplies. We have adopted three times from here. We adopted two absolutely wonderful dogs (they were "trauma" dogs, but we worked really hard with both of them to get them through many of their issues), and we adopted one cat that apparently was adopted out several times, and those adoptions failed (including ours). For the cat adoption, I do believe allowing your home animals to meet a potential animal you wish to adopt is crucial to seeing how they will get along, if it is a good match. This is not allowed at TCRAS, and that was a huge barrier with the cat adoption. My concern is that I do not feel that everything is truly disclosed to the adopter when the process happens. I know that not everything might be known, but just basic "obvious" things are not disclosed. The other concern/issue I have is that while some of the staff are just incredible and wonderful...others treat you like you are not in the "sorority," and they cannot be bothered with you. I tried with both of our dogs to call/email/or come in every 3-4 months to provide updates and let staff see how the dogs were thriving. I was dismissed as if I was a nuisance, so I stopped. I even wanted to volunteer with walking the dogs, but the attitude that was shown to me discouraged pursuing this. In addition, I found two strays that I had brought into TCRAS and when I called Angela answered; I was trying to tell her the stray dogs had some major gestational issues and to please let the owners know when the owners were found. Apparently the stray dogs I found are "frequent flyers" with being allowed to run around town, and Angela dismissed me acting like I was the problem for bringing them into TCRAS. It was quite disheartening. While we love our dogs and we take our pets to Dr. Conrad, we have decided that TCRAS is just not the right "fit" with the attitude and individuals that are the front line workers.

On our first visit, the one volunteer who actually seemed to care about getting their pups into a good home was frantically trying to find a dog who had gotten lost after breaking out of his collar on his walk. Understandably, she couldn't give us her full attention, and the other volunteers there didn't really seem to care about helping us. It was like pulling teeth to ask one of the volunteers what the adoption process entailed. We decided to come back the following day. The dog we had been looking at had been adopted--which is great! I hope he found an excellent home! The new crew of volunteers in on that day were just as blase as the one volunteer the day prior. One woman insisted that we decide on a breed we want, pre-pay the application and adoption fee, so that when our ideal breed comes in, we can just scoop them up! Except that we weren't looking for a breed, we were looking for a personality. She didn't seem to understand that, and kept saying that the only way to get the dog you want these days is to pre-adopt based on breed. Nope. No thanks. The facilities themselves were great, the volunteers blew it.
