Carpet - Cooks was recommended to us from multiple real estate agents, and we were excited to find…read morea company that seemed friendly and professional. The carpet we selected was several weeks away in terms of delivery, that was fine. The carpet showed up and the install was scheduled, there was one person to install about 1,400 square feet in a newly finished basement, up the stairs and an office on the main level. I helped the installer move furniture, which theoretically was included, and with more than one installer would not have been an issue. The real issue is that with a light carpet the installer ground leaves and gravel into the carpet, although we understand that it is common to bring the carpet into the house through the basement windows this isn't acceptable. When the installation was done it was not even vacuumed, there are stains on the new carpet, we contacted Cooks and the contact that we worked with told us that the installers are independent contractors. Great, there's almost 10K wasted, don't use them. We emailed with our concerns, and in our opinion were completely blown off.

We highly recommend MOTIF for your special design-build projects. They are an amazing team and our experience with them was absolutely top-notch. They helped us re-invent our built-in-the-late-80's home and create a place that is beautiful, functional, and feels like "us". On the design side, they had both a high-style approach to design AND an ability to listen to and incorporate our ideas and preferences. It was a delight to work with them. There was also excellent communication between the design side and the build side, which made a world of difference to us as the homeowners. Once the build phase began, there were workers at our house every day by 8 a.m. (never seen anything like it!). The build team members were exceptionally respectful of our space, accommodating of our needs, and kept us fully in-the-loop as things unfolded (and were great with our dog!). Listen. Home renovations are painful and expensive. But if you want it done really well, in a very reasonable amount of time, go with MOTIF.

Steve came out, gave me his opinions on things and went home and hand sketched my vision on paper. Not only that but his quote was fantastic. These are custom hardwood pieces for a great deal. Our renovation was approximately…read more10 weeks with a 4 month old and 11 year old dog, and honestly it couldn't have gone smoother. In the beginning as we were collecting quotes, I was impressed with how responsive Kim was, I also felt like their prices were very reasonable in comparison to the other companies. We had a pantry, closet and a portion of a wall removed to make our house built in 1908 more open concept. New hardwood floors throughout the first floor. We also did new cabinets and countertops through kitchen creations. Kim helped us pick out our farmhouse sink. In an effort to save some money we did the backsplash, light fixtures and painting (though I wish we would have had Al (Tivoli Contracting) do the painting as most of it still isn't done ;). During the renovation the stairs to upstairs (we lovingly referred to as our apartment) was taped off to minimize dust etc. They were usually there promptly at 8a and would knock prior to entering despite the lock box. I would say I spent most days upstairs at the house during renovation. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat and would go back to Kitchen Creations and Al for future renovations!
