My first visit to this relatively new bakery. Got here in the early afternoon so the selections of sweets was very limited. The cashier said between 7-10am is best time to get here because after that they may start to run out of items. I did get the chocolate chip cookie and brownie to take home so I was happy with that. We tried both that evening and they were delicious. Next time I'll make sure to get there in the morning. My family and I decided to drive to this croissants in San Pedro on a Saturday morning in July. This cute little bakery is in the middle of neighborhood so we had to find street parking. There was people waiting for their breakfast or coffee at 8:30am. Only one family allowed inside at a time since the place is really small. They have various type of breads, pastries-chocolate croissants, croissants, breakfast bun, coffee, and vegan cookies. After we paid, they wrapped the pastries in white envelopes in a paper bag. I've been coming to this place since I moved to the area, and I've been pretty pleased with everything I've gotten thus far, so bear in mind that this review is solely regarding the smørrebrød. Considering my bf and I are regulars at Colossus and frequent travelers to Scandinavia, I've had my eye on the smørrebrød on their menu for some time now. It's been there, but grayed out for a long time until this morning. My bf has lived in SP since before they opened, and told me how good it was when they offered it before, so despite the lack of an image of the dish on the menu, I hopped on it as soon as I saw that it was available to order. At $12, I didn't expect it to be a huge portion, but I did expect the quality to be to their usual standard. What I got was one thin piece of their Danish rye with some mediocre cream cheese spread, and a half oz of salmon sprinkled with chives mashed into a small, square plastic container that it was too wide for. The thing looked like it had been made up early in the morning, and the spread was cracking on the bread. Super disappointing, with not even some red onion or sprouts to accompany it. I totally understand their reasoning behind the price shift/no tip thing, especially because the majority of their offerings are high-quality, but the smørrebrød was absolutely insulting. read more

I had always thought their choco chip cookies were merely ok because they were a bit hard and salty - surprising to me since all else seemed pretty well thought out. About two weeks ago I realized the cookies are the best dessert cookie for dunking in hot coffee! I'm not really a coffee person so that's why it took me a while to figure this out. You know right away when you've walked into a place with fresh baked goods. Add to that the complimentary scent of coffee beans roasted and recently brewed and your morning of joy has just been enhanced. Such a nice small neighborhood coffee/pastry shop. It's very narrow and long inside with most of the room saved for the back portion where the goodies are made. Up front is just enough room for a few customers at a time to order and pick up. Ordering online is probably a good way to go. The pastries are delicious and you can tell a lot of care goes into what they offer. Apparently this little place has been hiding out for over a year. I had no idea that something like this existed in San Pedro. I've been here my whole life and I've always really disliked, even hated, the coffee shops that are in San Pedro. This is necessary for coffee connoisseur's like myself. They have great, no amazing, pastries. The coffee quality is really good and it is not watered down Because they know what they're doing. Even though I have a $600 coffee machine at home, for a while I still left the house once a week to come and get coffee from Colossus. And a burrito from next door. My only complaint is I found out that I've been being duped on my coffee. I ask for a large coffee with no ice so that I can drink it later. What I didn't realize is that I was being give less coffee because of that. Essentially I was being given a small size coffee in a large cup and it hurts to know I was paying regular price for that. Holy moly. Just wow. Cumin olive loaf: This. I have no words. Lightly toasted in a frying pan (don't have a toaster), vermont cultured sea salt butter, smoked salmon and some coffee. I'm in heaven. Oat porridge sandwich loaf: Hearty. Moist :smirk-face:. Perfectly oat-y. A great everyday bread. During a very busy WFH day, i made myself a thick pb&j sammie with this bread and it kept me going for the entire work day. I'm not a small person too. Kouing-amann: Beautiful lamination, just right crunchy flaky sweet outside, perfectly chewy on the inside. Cookies: Large, chewy, and with a slightly crunchy surface. My kinda cookie. Rosemary shortbread: Paired great with a gin and tonic after said busy WFH day. Thoroughly enjoyed myself. Maple pecan scone: Dense, a little dry, definitely not a muffin. The quintessential scone. Drip coffee also perfect. Everything just damn perfect. Order online day of for pickup or pre-order for days ahead. Their square website is pretty self-explanatory. Pickup was a breeze. Came here one afternoon to see what they had left. They didn't have many pastries left, but they did have croissants! The croissant was pretty damn good! It was buttery and flakey. When you cut in in half, you can see the beautiful layers inside. It made a flakey mess when you bit into it. I think that next time, I will have to go there earlier to get their pastries when they are freshly baked AND when they have more options. This one is nestled in the middle of a residential area right next to The Chori Man, another great spot to try. I've only been here a few times. When they first opened, they were always sold out by the time I could go. I've tried a few of their items and there isn't one that I don't like. The OG cookie is so delicious. They had a vega chocolate chip cookie someone has me try and it was amazing and I'm not even a vegan. It's a small little place. I hear they are only doing deliveries during this quarantine season, but when we can all come out and support all our local businesses afaIn, definitely hit up this spot! read more

Latte was great, people were nice and most of the pastries and the country bread was delicious. I wish I could give 5 stars but I was pretty disappointed with the chocolate croissant. It was smashed and the dough seemed under cooked. So it was flat $4 croissant that was not flaky whatsoever. It was still warm so maybe prematurely packed? I've had much better croissants for half the price. Double check your order because they forgot to include one of my pastry so they went in to get it! Then I looked to see if everything else was in but then another pastry was forgotten. That could've easily been $10 of goodies that I paid for but didn't get if I didn't double check. Once the pandemic was in full swing, I decided I needed to jump on the CSA band wagon when I saw that Colossus was offering boxes from County Line Harvest. I have been picking up CSA boxes every other week for the past 2-3 months or so. Originally, I had just planned to get the CSA box (County Line is awesome btw - the best CSA box I've ever had), but figured I should support the bakery as well. I started small, just getting an OG Chocolate Chip cookie. It was delicious! A perfectly chewy tender cookie. But as the weeks progressed, I have ended up ordering more and more with each pickup, and each week, the pastries are totally delicious. My favorite item has been the ham & cheese croissant which I pretty much order every time. It is just so light and airy and beautiful. Perfect amount of ham/cheese with the butter pastry. They also had a strawberry almond croissant that was equally delicious. Don't sleep on their kouign-amann. When I've had it elsewhere, I always that it was too crunchy and hard. Colossus's was light and crispy, with just the right amount of sweetness. I love going to their website and seeing what new special item they have that day. I haven't yet tried their bread, because I've been making so much bread during the pandemic, though I'm sure their bread is much much better than anything I made at home. The ordering can only be done online, according to signs on the door. They have a table outside and bring your food to you after you call them to let them know you are there. The prices are high but apparently that's because they pay their staff better than most. And thankfully, everything I've had there is delish. Even though the breakfast sandwich is a whopping $15, it's huge and perfect for splitting. Ambiance isn't much to speak of since this location is a hole in the wall takeout joint. Colossus is a little bakery with a coffee bar next door to Choriman on Alma. When I came by, there was a line for Choriman but not for Colussus. I was able to walk in and order a blueberry financier. I just about hit the floor when the little gf cake that was about 2 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick was $7, but it was delicious. At these prices, can't say that I would rush back. Plus, it was served ice cold, which was pretty sad. Good but not great. read more
