Went there on Friday night for dinner w our 3 kids. Two of us ordered sandwiches w fries. The fries were terrible. They were like grease crumbs. Broken and like an inch long. Went here recently and the staff were friendly, food was standard and area seemed nice enough for a bar scene (not my style). Our waitress was nice enough to offer suggestions and talk a bit about the native Buffalo foods and some overhyped restaurants. The food was reasonably priced with wings and the Beef of Weck, or roast beef sandwich, being a staple (like most in the area). Plans changed and so glad they did! Colter Bay is so great! They had a large drink selection and the food was delicious! The décor of a bar with a cabin twist made it welcoming and fun to be around. I had plans to play trivia at a different location, but they told us they cancelled it and that we should have known (never asked if we wanted to stay either). Myself and the group I was with, do not care for the food where trivia is. If Colter Bay had trivia - I think we would be there every week! I had the beef on weck and added 5 wings for an additional $6. The beef on weck was one of the BEST I have ever had. It was tender and cooked just right. My family has them often for parties and it tasted like home. It was piled high, but just enough to get the full effect. They gave you the au jus and horseradish on the side. Which is perfect so you can use as much or as little as you want. They also give you a ton of horseradish - not those tiny things most places give you. It also came with fries. The fries looked homemade and were crispy. The 5 wings were ok. I got them hot and for someone who loves spicy - they were spicy. Usually hot isn't hot enough for me. The heat factor was just right. The only problem, is it is street parking. This is what caused me to give Colter Bay only 4 stars and not 5. There is a parking lot behind it, but only after a certain time are you able to park there. I wish I remembered the time to put it in. Been here a few times since they remodeled the place a few years ago. It was nothing more than and college bar back then. This may be my new favorite spot for brunch. They have a very extensive list of beers and ciders on tap. Wide variety from stouts to IPA's to Ciders and Mead and everything in between, so everyone will find something they like. Food is also very good. Got the scotch egg. Nicely done with runny yolk. Other brunch options looked good as well. Will be back soon. read more

Loving the new Colter Bay -- if you fancy an amazing sandwich, come here and order the Meatloaf Sandwich! The review could simply end here. Colter Bay has reopened under Shatzel's ownership (of ABV, past Blue Monk, Cole's and Liberty Hound) and it's definitely hopping. With a large beer menu and a cozy environment, it's a great place to catch a game or hang out with your friends. The food menu is one-page, but features some interesting items, including an Elk Burger and a variety of entrees (from Meatloaf to steak to fish) that are reasonably priced. The sandwiches are $14-16 each and the Meatloaf Sandwich came highly recommended. It's one of the best open faced sandwiches in Buffalo. Meatloaf, gravy and mashed potatoes on top of Texas toast (basically just a thicker bread). The meatloaf is delicious and the mashed potatoes and gravy make this sammy more of a heavy meal. If you're hungry, one should tide you over. When we came on a Sunday during the Bill's game, there were a few open tables, but the restaurant was at least 75% full. The noise level is on the louder side, so be aware of that. Service was great, but they weren't able to serve any hot drinks yet (so no hot tea, coffee) and they also didn't have unsweetened ice tea. By the time you read this review, they may have already worked that out and you may be enjoying a hot drink right now at Colter Bay! Went here on a cold, crappy, raining night and this was the perfect place to fall into for warmth and comfort food. We did have reservations and were glad we did because there was live music. We got a great booth with a window and far enough to enjoy the music and still be able to talk. The waitress was great even tho it was very busy. Their beer list is extensive; no disappointment here! The food menu had a specials sheet and a regular menu. We ordered pretzels as an appetizer and they were wowzers! So crispy, yet soft and perfectly salted. Stopped in with some friends for lunch during the week to check out the "new look". Although the remodel has been done for some time now, I had not seen it yet, so was happy with how everything looked. I especially like the sliding windows around the outside of the restaurant that were open so you felt like you were sitting outside, without actually having to sit outside. The draft beer list was very extensive and we each chose an IPA to start. Our server Shelby was nice and very attentive, and didn't let our glasses stay empty for long. I ordered the 561 Short Rib Melt and it was one of the yummiest sandwiches I've had in a while. It had great flavor, the bread was not over toasted, and the fries were so delicious! My friends both enjoyed their sandwiches as well. We had such a nice meal and loved the beer selections. We will definitely be back since I'm now craving that sandwich! read more

The Shishito Peppers are one of my favorite items on the menu! It's an appetizer, but I like to get it as my main dish for lunch because it's just that good. Hubby and I decided to stop by the new Colter Bay on our way home from a Sabres game a few Saturdays ago. There was a table set up with 2 hostesses near the entrance who greeted us right away, but we opted to just grab a drink at the bar - which was packed. It had a decent vibe, decorated with a ski lodge-like feel. Much cleaner than the old Colter Bay, obviously, although I'm not sure if the crowd has changed much. I ordered the EBC blueberry beer, good as usual, and hubby ordered the Great Lakes Christmas ale - although he got some strange beer that was NOT the Christmas ale. With the bar being so busy, hubby hating sending things back, and me in a weird mood - neither of us wanted to make a fuss about it. We weren't really hungry so we just ordered the nachos to share - onions, sour cream, cheese, jalapeños, picco de gallo... they were pretty good, although the amount of toppings just didn't justify the $10 price tag. we studied the rest of the menu for when we return to try out the rest of the food, but nothing really jumped out at us, and some of the prices rivaled that of a pub in NYC. Maybe it's just me, but if I'm going to pay $16 for a steak sandwich at some gastropub, I'd rather pay twice as much for a real piece of steak elsewhere. After over a year of driving by Colter Bay pretty much every day, Saturday was the day that I finally stopped in and had some dinner. Located on the corner of Delaware and Allen, this cool restaurant is usually pretty busy and this night was no different (especially when the Leafs were in town to beat the Sabres. We came in around 6:00PM and even with the crowd we were seated right away. The menu here features plenty of sandwich, seafood, salad, and appetizers options to satisfy just about anyone. I ended up ordering "The Frontiersman" which was BBQ chicken breast with cheese and Applewood smoked bacon (I'll order anything that has Applewood smoked bacon) with a side of French fries. How was the food you ask? The food was fantastic! The sandwich was hot, juicy, full of flavour, and so good that once I picked it up.....well, the sandwich never saw the plate again. The French fries were really good as well, crispy and tasty. On top of the good food and the quick service, I really enjoyed the atmosphere of Colter Bay (minus the drunk girls screaming, I'll never like or appreciate that). Simply put, it just looks cool inside and the logo is pretty cool as well. Overall, Colter Bay is the type of place that when friends and family visit me in Buffalo, I'll take them here. The food is fantastic, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere makes for a fun night out. I highly recommend checking this place out if you are looking for food in Allentown. read more

I can't believe I've been in Buffalo for so long and haven't been over to Colter Bay yet! Super cool atmosphere, and I really liked how they had a base menu with an entire list of daily specials. My lobster roll was a special, and coming from someone who lived in Rhode Island for a while, this was the BEST lobster roll I've ever had! I wasn't too much of a fan of their corn chowder, but it wasn't bad by any means. My mom had the scotch egg, and that's absolutely a MUST HAVE - so good! I went to Colter Bay for the first time, supporting a Diamonds in the Ruff animal rescue event. There is (paid) street parking, outdoor seating, and a decent sized bar inside. I cant say enough how impressed i was by the owners and cooks at Colter Bay. They went out of the way to make sure the event went smoothly. They donated Colter Bay dog collars, catered the rescues other event across the street at Buffalo Big Print, and donated to the cause. They continuously kept the catered food replenished across the street, and kept making sure everything was going smoothly. Their customer service alone gets a 5 star review from me. The food and drinks were fairly priced and very well made as well. A live band started around 6, and i really enjoyed them. Great location right on the corner. I come here for the beer selection. Large range of different types of craft beer and it changes too. Bartenders and waiters are attentive and pleasant. Coming here for was a Blessing in Disguise, after finishing up my last day at my Internship at Canisius High School, my intention was to dine at The Rowhouse (just a Block and a Half down the Street). the sad thing was lunch ended 45 minutes before I even got there so I went back up the Street (while getting rained on a little bit) and I was kindly sat down at the Bar while gathering my Thoughts. This place has a Sturdy Cabin like feel with Wilderness influences due to all the Animal Memorabilia (like Moose Antlers) a place that serves American Food with an Upscale Pub Flair to it. One of the Waiter's Jessica stopped over to start off my Meal, I went with a Drink called the Sazerac (from what I hear, its called New Orleans in a Glass) a Orange Drinks consisting of Rye, Bitters, Sugar Cube, Herbsaint & Orange Peel. The Drink can be a bit strong on the Forefront which is why I took it one Sip at a Time, the Sugar and Citrus Oils from the Orange Peel help to counter that Strong Flavor of the Rye. I got to have my Salad, so I ordered a Mixed Salad (Greens, Diced Tomatoes & Red Onions with a Balsamic Dressing) Fresh Veggies with the most Unusual Balsamic Dressing, although the Flavor was the Same, the Consistency was as Thick as Ketchup and I could even get it confused for Chocolate Pudding due to its Appearance. Next up was another round of Alcohol as I Embark-ed on a Glass of Embark Cherry Cider, Bright Red with a bit of a Bubbly Fizz and a Sweet Cherry Flavor that you would like to Savor in the Fall (in between October and November). Next up was main event, one of their Specialties - Elk Burger with a Walnut crusted Goat Cheese Croquette, Arugula and a Wild Berry Compote. Elk is one of those animals Roaming around in the Wilderness in numerous Park Areas, so it definitely fits to have it on a Menu like this. The Meat was Medium (the way I like my Meat), the Croquette with that coating of Toasted Walnuts managed to maintain its shape without melting or fall apart. Between the Arugula and the Compote there was a lot of Vibrant Color constrast. The Arugula lends it Peppery bite that matches well with the Tart (which almost felt like a Coulis or Puree of Strained Fruits or Vegetables). I thought that when I went to bite down I get Gamey, Sweet, Mild & Rich all together. The Fries that were with it were Crisp and light and seasoned perfectly, while you can taste that Potato without it being sidetracked by the Salt. I had finished off my Lunch with a 3rd round of Alcohol as I got a glass of Jenny Cream Ale, which was a light ale with a Sweet Creamy Finish. Beer is supposed to have a Foamy Head but instead I got like a light surface of Foam at the Top that looks like Thin Ice on a Pond. Colter Bay has a friendly, cozy, welcoming feel to it, with unique food being served and being served by People who take the Time to talk to You. Jessica was kind enough to talk to me from time to time during my Stay, she took care of me. I came to Colter Bay specifically for the Impossible Burger a vegetarian sandwich that is only served at one of 3 area restaurants I've had the sandwich plain and wasn't impressed this version (a special) with veggie cheddar fried onions and cole slaw on a bun served with fries turned out to be much better. if you're expecting beef flavor I didn't feel it but everything is better with Weber's mustard Service was great thanks Sarah everyone was friendly and helpful. I've been coming to colter bay for about 10 years now, and it's one of my favorite bars in buffalo. Great location on the corner of Allen and Delaware. It's the perfect spot to stop for a casual drink, meet with friends, or get lunch/dinner. Their menu includes wings, burgers, salads, appetizers. Within the past couple years colter was renovated from more of a dive-y neighborhood pub into a nicer bar with a lodge type feel. They have an old ski lift. The bar is much more open now and has the high tables that are perfect for meeting up with a friends. I really like their patio in the summer. I recently came here for their nye event and had a good time. For $80 it included "open bar" and passed appetizers from 9-1. We tried the wings, chicken fingers, beef on weck. The food was very good. Our only complaint was the dj wasn't playing our type of music. It was more jazz-y but still a good deal and nice event. Well back for happy hour and would definitely recommend trying other events. read more

My boyfriend and I went tonight for dinner, of course I ordered vegan nachos and fries and my boyfriend ordered sweet fries and a pretzel. When our food arrived it was freezing cold. The cheese on the nachos was completely cold and hardened and the fries and pretzel were cold as well. My boyfriend got up and told our server just about the nachos and he was quick to have it remade. When the fresh nachos came out, they were hot and awesome! Ever since my workplace moved to downtown Buffalo I've been enjoying local restaurants more often. I went to Colter Bay a couple days ago to get lunch and refreshments. Our sever was very attentive and helpful, my drink was decent (aka. it needed a little bit more of the good stuff), and the food didn't disappoint. Why four stars? I've come here a lot through the years. Always has a good selection of beers and consistently good food. The salmon salad I had this past time was pretty good. The salmon itself was delicious but pretty small, the salad was also quite dry. I've had it before and it was better so it's not going to totally effect my star rating. The burger looked amazing and tasted amazing as well. The Mac and cheese portion was massive. Colter bay as far as salads and burgers go is a little pricey, but the ingredients are far superior to most burger and salad spots. The beer selection is top notch if you like beers from all over. Only caution is this place can get busy and crowded so my advice is go on a weekday. read more

I was traveling back to Chicago and wanted to grab lunch with my sister before flying out of Buffalo International Airport. We wanted to get something a Buffalonian would eat and tried to get wings at Duff's but it was closed because it was Labor Day. A bit of a let down but what can you do? We turned to Yelp, spotted Colter Bay and ventured off to see if it was open. We were in luck! When we arrived at 2:30pm or so it wasn't terribly busy and we were seated immediately. The waiter brought over the menus and waters right away. I spotted the wings immediately and my mind was made up. The poutine sounded good as well, with the short rib of course, as did the macaroni and cheese. So there it was! Our hunger and frustration of running around Buffalo trying to find lunch met it's match in the way of 3 appetizers. The waiter said we made great choices and that poutine was one of their most popular dishes. In about 5 minutes the poutine arrived and it didn't disappoint. I don't get the appeal of gravy on fries but can definitely get behind fries, cheese curds, and super tender beef short rib. It was all delicious and If I am ever back in Buffalo I'm coming here for poutine. The wings and mac and cheese arrived next and they were good too. Wings in Buffalo, NY seem very appropriate and you can't go wrong. They were crunchy on the outside and tender inside and the BBQ had a tangy kick to it. Definitely delicious. As for the mac and cheese, it was very simple to me and didn't knock my socks off but I think that's because the poutine and wings were so good that they overshadowed the mac and cheese. Definitely a good last meal in Buffalo. Overall the service was great, the food delicious, and the restaurant and bar area clean and accommodating. If I'm ever back in town I'm coming back. This is probably my medium favorite restaurant in the area. Came here to pass the time while I waited for my cousin to finish up at his AA meeting. I got the beef on weck and my friend got the bbq chicken sandwich . They had a wide variety of beers and what not to select from. The atmosphere and decorations is like a northwestern feel like your in Idaho or Montana. They have bison and elk and duck meat if that tickles your fancy. My sandwich was good. they also have live music Friday nights, they had the ramones today, they were old but still good. Great service, nice atmosphere. I've gone here for some drinks (you can drink indoors or outdoors during the summer time) and recently I've ventured to Colter Bay for dinners. I once had the patty melt, which was quite yummy. The meat was tasty and tender. I just tried their Elk Burger the other day - the one thing I did not enjoy was the paste they used on the burger, it was very rich and did not mesh well with the meat. The qualify of the meat was definitely solid though. Their fries are semi crunchy with the perfect amount of salt :D. They have a fairly large drink menu, both beers, wines and well drinks. My main recommendations for Colter Bay: possibly lower the price of some meals on the menu and change the sauce/paste in the Elk Burger. Will I be back? YES. read more

I had an Uber Eats discount and I'd never eaten here before - so, I thought I'd give it a go. The delivery was fine, so no issues there. I ordered potato skins initially, but these ended up being sold out - so I switched to an order of Mac and Cheese. I had to reheat it. It was pretty tasty although I think elbow Mac is mundane. I also ordered French Onion Soup which was Luke warm. The broth was weak, a d the onions were bland. Not the best onion soup I've had. . I ordered the Elk Burger for my roommate and it came with sweet potato fries, which were over cooked. He enjoyed the burger a lot, so there's that. Colter bay in summer time 81° still feels like a ski lodge. The playlist is fire. The pictures on the wall are legit. The view of the allen Delaware interaction makes this joint prime real estate. I was excited to hear that Colter Bay was serving the Impossible Burger, the magical vegan burger that looks and tastes like beef. Let's get to what you want to know the most: the Impossible Burger doesn't taste exactly like a beef burger, but out of all the vegan burgers I've tried, it comes the closest. For me, the texture that gives the Impossible Burger away, but I'm still glad I tried it. Vegans and vegetarians who miss real burgers should give the Impossible Burger a try. I haven't missed burgers that much myself, but I like that Colter Bay offers this and a bean burger on the menu (the bean burger, while not the most outstanding one I've had, isn't bad at all). Omnivores considering the Impossible Burger for health reasons: you should just enjoy your beef burger and just balance it out with other healthier foods. I gave my meat-eating husband a bit of my Impossible Burger, but he just went back to eating his regular burger after tasting it. I also appreciate that Colter Bay offers 5 oz servings of any of their tap beers/ciders in addition to the standard 10 oz. This way, you can create a flight completely of your own choosing, try a drink you're not sure about-or, if your alcohol tolerance is terrible like mine, you can at least finish a little glass on your own. The staff is friendly, and I like the cozy ski lodge decor. The one thing I don't like is the acoustics.
