Went there a couple years ago for a Veterans Day meal offer. I was told that the offer was for the day after Veterans Day, no biggie, we decided to eat there anyways since I hadn't been to a Coltons before. I then experienced the worst country fried steak I have ever had. The gravy couldn't mask the overuse of baking powder. Cutting into it was like sawing into a plank. We eat here about once every two months. Service is hit or miss. My wife gets the same thing every time. She asks for no mushrooms. Three out of five times she has still gotten mushrooms. I must agree with another reviewer that the staff has limited knowledge. What saves the place is the good proportions and the loaded sweet potato. read more

The staff was friendly but the seat that I was taken to had visible water & food remnants all over the table, seats, and underneath the table. It clearly had not been prepped and the surrounding area had straw wrappers and food all over the floor. I'm not talking about peanut shells...food, fries, chicken strip pieces, etc. If the cleanliness of a restaurant's most visible area looks this way it raises questions with regards to the sanitation of the kitchen. Didn't stay long enough to order. Informed the owner (said he was the owner) but based on his statement, it was clear that his interest was in reducing overhead by the fact that he sent the busser home and was relying on the host to manage the cleanliness in addition to her other duties. An overall bad experience. I brought my girlfriend of many years to Colton's Steakhouse in early August, 2014. Upon arrival, there were a couple young female hostesses chatting at the podium. I made the mistake of waiting for them to greet me or acknowledge me in some fashion - they did not. I interrupted their personal conversationg (something about sports - it was very clear it was not business related) and told them I needed a table for 2. Our table was clean and secluded, which I enjoyed. Our server was on-point! She was quick with everything, very nice, and always managed to slip me a refill just before I finished my drink. We started with mozzarella sticks. They were decent for the price, but nothing special. For our entrees we both ordered a steak with a baked potato. The baked potato was flavorless! I absolutely love baked potatoes, but this was a complete disappointment! For my steak I ordered a Hawaiin ribeye medium rare. When it arrived, I was very disappointed. The steak tasted unseasoned and almost completely overpowered by the taste of pineapple. The steak sauce that they serve on the tables was very sweet - something that I personally do not prefer my steak sauce to be. My girlfriend was equally disappointed. For spending $45 for dinner, I expected a bit more. Our server was the only redeeming quality. Fellows, I do not recommend bringing your dates here! read more

My wife and I came here for a date night soon after we moved to Labadie. We stopped on the way to get groceries one night. We were seated promptly and had drinks at the table just as fast. I ordered a steak and my wife had shrimp and salmon. This place is very comparable to Texas Roadhouse, and i say that in a good way. Went here about a month ago. The food was great. We had some sort of blooming onion type appetizer that was very tasty. I had a steak for dinner that was also very good and cooked to the right temperature. Only downside was that I was craving a tasty beer to go with the meal and the staff didn't seem to know what all beers they had in stock currently. Quite possibly the worst steakhouse I've ever been to on multiple levels. Every time someone convinces me to go there I have to remind myself not to get a steak. I always do. I'm always terribly disappointed in it. The last visit I made spelled the end for me, however. After a softball tourney a group of us stopped by to get dinner. My wife went in with me to get a table or two (or four). The place was dead and it was around 7 pm. When they asked how many we said somewhere between 15 and 20 as we werent sure how many wives and girlfriends were also coming. The hostess rolled her eyes and brought over a waitress. They walked behind a decoration and said "what are they retarded? Can't they count to 20?" Among other snotty remarks. This place..wow where do I start..The steak got sent back twice...When I asked to speak to the manager, It took a good 20 minutes...HE WAS A JERK! WISH I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE NEGATIVE STARS!This restaurant doesn't accept reservations, which is a problem for a small town. That is unless they "know you" then you get a table. Small towns seem to have their well knowns if you will- so not impressed! The waiting area is quaint. Saddles for the kids to sit on. Free peanuts etc.we have now watched 6 parties of 2 or 3 be seated before our party of 8 because the management here is too stupid too figure out how to push tables together to seat a party of 8! My son is hungry and we are minutes from walking out. No one has come over to apologize or explained. I've eaten here before and the food is so not worth the wait!!! Will never be back. Go to the Blue Duck!!!! We went up to ask but after seating a different party of 8 they said the table we were assigned to is still occupied by people chit chatting. This is the only place I have found that cooks the steak right the first time every time. While we almost always have the steak I have tried other dishes as well and I have never been disappointed. The service was great. I don't want to use her name because I don't want her to receive any reprimand. To begin with we My hubby and I had his first adventure out since he has received chemotherapy, so we were really excited to be out of the house. We ordered some nachos for an appetizer the tips and ends came out black ( not golden brown ) my hubby and I laughed it off because we were so happy just to be out made a joke because it was the 4th of July and said the B team must have gotten scheduled. Then our food arrives my hubby's is fine. My food however I ordered the 2 pork chop dinner with loaded mash. My loaded mash was cold and I was told that's because I ordered loaded which the loaded part comes on the side (not on top then put in oven or micro to melt the butter and cheese then topped off with a dollop of sour). I then began to eat my chips and one of them looks beautiful the other was so thin it burnt and charred on the grill. I showed the server and she replaced the one with chop that looked like the one I ate and a side of mash not even loaded in a to go box. My intentions were to bring the second chop home to begin with, getting loaded mash which I paid for would of been a nice touch. The manager never stopped by once even after the cold mash it burnt chop. Well when I went to reheat my chop at home it was raw...... Enough said !!!!! The server herself was very attentive and refilled out drinks as needed, but I got the feeling the cold loaded mash is a consistent complaint, so Colton's a very easy fix put the toppings on and put in oven top of with the sour cream..... My husband and I went here Friday evening on a double date with some of our friends. We were really looking forward to an enjoyable evening with good food, but yet again we were disappointed by Colton's. This has to be the WORST steakhouse I have EVER been too and I have been to many as I am from Texas and know a good steak. I had to send my ribeye back THREE times because they obviously cannot cook it correctly. We also didn't even get our salads until after our main course arrived! What is the point in that??? I also ordered a drink from the bar that has to be returned 2 times and the 3rd time STILL wasn't right but I kept it anyways...they have a heavy pouring hand when it comes to gin! On top of that we were sitting by the bathrooms where we could see the entire staff in the back. At one point they were all bickering which I believe is highly unprofessional. Also, the "manager" in the purple shirt was acting like a fool and rolling her eyes at us when the server took my steak back a 3rd time and then she made it a point to bring the steak out herself and the steak was STILL wrong and all she did was roll her eyes and ay sorry! Are you kidding?! you want me to pay $16 for a steak that YOUR cooks mess up and all you say is SORRY?! We were headed to a movie so I didn't even get to eat my steak I had to take it to go!
