It worked well enough for my purposes, I told myself. The built-in phono stage wasn't exactly usable, but I had my own external preamp that I liked, and there were times the sound would cut out if something got ever-so-slightly jostled, but then it stopped producing sound from the left channel altogether and the quirks stopped seeming so cute. I called Jude and described the problem. He picked the amp up and returned it sounding better than ever. I now have a restored amp that sounds great for less than I paid for it in its rusty, loose condition years ago. I would note that the quoted time frame was the Sunday following a Wednesday pickup, and it did take some phone tag to get the unit back, which ended up being two weeks after I first handed it off. My guess is that because we live in totally different parts of the city, Jude was trying to time the repair relative to when he could feasibly come my way, and from what he told me, the repair was somewhat more complicated than expected once he got around to it. Notably, this was during the stretch of winter when there were the two huge storms within a couple of weeks of each other, so that didn't help either. Delays like this obviously seem inherent to a one-person home operation, and I wouldn't have expected such a quick turnaround if not for the original quote (and other reviews mentioning quick turnarounds). He was always friendly and polite on the phone even as I worried I was pestering him. Overall, I felt the service lived up to my expectations. Given that he's a genuinely nice person providing a specialized service for reasonable prices and will pick up and drop off your gear for you (even if you don't live anywhere near Flatbush), I can't complain--just unfortunate timing that I found myself without a working stereo system out during a period when I was barely going outside. Still, I have a feeling it'll be sounding great for many seasons to come.

He treated it with the kind of respect and precision you just don't see much anymore. He was knowledgeable, communicative, and clearly passionate about old-school audio gear. He diagnosed the issue quickly, explained what was going on in plain language, and the turnaround was faster than I expected. Most importantly -- it sounds fantastic now. Warm, clean, and alive again. He offered to pick it up and drop it off from my home. Instead we met halfway on a street corner! It felt a little strange just handing over my vintage baby to a complete stranger. But I knew from from his warm smile, and knowledge of the gear that I was in good hands. It took under a week and he did a fantastic job!! If you care about your vintage equipment and want someone who truly understands these pieces, Jude is your guy. Highly recommended.

BASSOONISTS BEWARE - DO NOT USE PETER LANDY BASSOON "REPAIR"!!!…read more Peter Landy ruined by Puchner Bassoon. Because of this and not wanting to even look at the issues I outlined to him together, I had no choice but to bring Peter Landy to New York City Small Claims Court and I Won $4,500!!! I'm thinking all this mess could have been avoided if the guy just came off his high horse and reviewed my issues together - ya think? Instead, he decided to destroy a professional relationship. After professionally pleading with him to pay the judgment order against him he decided to play the devils advocate and claim he didn't receive the court order and requested an Order to Vacate to essentially have the small claims hearing I won reheard. Guess what - it was and that slimebag won and I lost. Now, he's out there with my money and I have the result of his tainted rotten work in my hands which needs severe work but can't afford it because he has my money. People - this story is for real and I had to chop up the court document to keep it fairly condensed here for you to read it below: I was seeking a professional to restore my prized Puchner Bassoon. What was supposed to have been a beautiful job when complete was far from it when "complete" two years after starting the job which actually should have only taken maybe six months. During this process there were many issues with the result of providing a service in which left the bassoon inoperable, did not properly remove pits and blemishes from the keys, failure to provide updates/communications, took over two years to complete service which caused me to rent a bassoon, to refuse playing opportunities which impacted my flow of income, my credibility of performance on a lesser instrument, cosmetically ruined the instrument, refused to provide alternatives, as a professional, did not review and rectify the issues outlined rather he washed his hands of this project and left me once again with an inoperable instrument. I feel Mr. Landy has handled these issues unprofessionally, did not offer me any alternatives, denied any of the problems, and did not allow me to talk with him face to face to discuss the problems I have outlined in this document. Taking almost two years to complete this overhaul was more than enough time to complete the overhaul of a bassoon. Because of this delay, I have suffered credibility in my professional bassoon playing in an around the New England area as I have had to play on lesser instruments as well as income. Between utilizing a friends bassoon and renting a bassoon makes it difficult for any bassoonist to adjust to the instrument for air, control, and sound. On top of it all, he never tested the instrument for tonal values, when questioned he said he played a few notes and thought it sounded pretty good. I found the instrument to voicing to be off throughout the entire instrument. Major problems affecting these notes were wax or other matter in some of the tone holes never removed. Just another example of sloppy work.

I rate this Court Street Branch of u BreakiFix "VBAS" for VERY BAD ATTITUDE and Service…read more So I dropped my phone and my screen cracked into such a rainbow of colors it made the Pride Flag look like an old black & white TV. I've been going to this uBiFix here since at least 2019 bc it's in my hood and they were always solid - but I guess new crew new attitude - ah how we long for the good old days. Anyways I've had shorter waits in Doctor Offices. The waiting area looked like a subway platform at rush hour - and by that I mean - a few lucky peeps had seats and the rest of us stood around waiting....and waiting... Anyways my tech Andrew informed me a new Apple Screen would be $250 or $300 I cant remember which now, but that an after market would be $200. So being that the phone is a couple of years old I went with the after market. They took it in, fixed it and I was out. Next day - even though it sat on my desk or in my pocket - another rainbow appeared. So I went back I showed it to Andrew and said, "Its covered under the warranty right? Its only one day" He said, "Well if it's not your fault" I showed him the spotless screen. I was like "Dude forget about no cracks or no scratches -there's not even a speck of dust on the screen." "Well lets see." He goes in and comes out after too long a time to tell me, "Yeah we're gonna do you a favor and fix it." "Do me a favor?" I'm thinking - because Techs are like car mechanics or Doctors - you can't express how you really feel if you're still gonna put your whatever in their hands. Lets get real - Business don't survive by doing favors. It was 2 days into warranty - and whether it was a defective screen or incompetence - that's why you're gonna do it. Anyways I was never given a reason why it failed. So I get it back fixed and a few days later, its in my shirt pocket, I'm standing leaning over my desk and my phone - that's in a sturdy case - falls about 2 feet onto my desk and like that old Rolling Stones song "SHE COMES IN COLORS EVERYWHERE - SHE'S LIKE A RAINBOW!" Needless to say I got my answer the hard way - if their aftermarket screen cracks from 2 foot fall to a desk - it's prolly not even defective but just cheap crap. I mean 2 screens fail that easy - time to source a new provider boys! I had no time to go back to their circus as I had to fly - besides slap me once shame on you, but slap me twice... Anyways when I got to Louisville Kentucky there was a shop on Bardstown Rd & Eastern Parkway - polite, friendly no attitude. Their aftermarket cost only $149.00 instead of $200 and they told me it would be ready in 30 min. I didnt even get to finish my coffee in the cafe across the street before I got a text it was done. MORAL OF THE STORY: If you can't get to Kentucky for a great deal, and you're happy with Bad Attitude, Product & Service - then the uBreakiFix on Court Street is the joint for you! ,
