I got the Shrimp Summer Rolls, which were fairly plain, and the peanut sauce was OK... not much peanut in the sauce itself, though they throw some crushed peanut meal on top before serving. The Pork Bahn MI was decent but I hate cucumber, and wasn't expecting the sliced jalapeño... I removed all of that and it was still pretty darn spicy, so beware. Came here for a takeout order when I happened to be in the area late at night for work. A few days earlier, I was reading up about how there was a decent sized Vietnamese population in the Bronx, and I was determined to try out a Viet place when I happened to be in the Bronx a few days later. First I will start by saying the place fits in unconsciously into the neighborhood. Located just off the Kingsbridge stop on the 4 train. The restaurant is large enough to accommodate several groups while still distancing patrons. Staff is polite and very friendly. Reservations are encouraged. At this time vaccine cards and ID's must be presented to dine in. The Pho is delish here. Great broth. The beef bowl was great. Meat was tender and well seasoned. Everything was delish. The brisket beef in our soups were full of hard chewy fat. It was not good, they should be trimming the fat, not giving a customer like five nasty slices of that. CTNK is a hell yes every time. They are a bit far from me, but it's the only place I can justify splurging on UberEats. It's just so damn tasty! My favorites are the brisket/bone marrow bahn mi sandwich and the crispy spring rolls. I've also had their Com rice bowls with chicken and pork. Came here on a whim and was super excited to try their name sake item which is basically a rice bowl with egg some other things on the side and some grilled pork. Was legitimately excited since this is one of the few restaurants that are authentically Vietnamese in nyc, with a authentically Vietnamese population residing here alot of the population in nyc is Vietnamese Chinese, but that's not the case in the boogie down. The dish was average and unmemorable at best.... The only thing that really stuck out to me was how tough the pork was and how overpriced the item was for what it was $12.00. This place is really inconsistent. Are they under new management again? I've been coming here for years. The first few times, the staff was rude, and the place was depressing and dirty, but the food was excellent. Then there was a period when the ambiance was much nicer, the service was vastly improved, and the food was still excellent. Today, I went, and this restaurant is back to being dirty and dismal; the service is fine, but now even the food has gone downhill. They no longer have Sriracha for some reason. There was a disgusting smell hanging around the place today that was also unpleasant. I don't know why this restaurant is like this. It feels as if I've been to three different restaurants in the same location. I was excited to hear about a good Viet restaurant in the Bronx after a colleague suggested this place for lunch! We ordered takeout via uber eats and the food came in a timely manner. Two of us got the combination noodle salad bowl, which come with grilled pork chop and pieces of spring roll, and another got the signature Bahn mi. This was my first time having a soupless Viet noodle dish. I was always hesitant because the dish looks a bit bland. I was soo pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The sweetish savory tangy sauce they provide coats every bite, and my concern about the noodles being dry was thrown out the window. The only cons were that some parts of the grilled pork chop were noticeably burned. This wasn't too bad because those parts were easily ripped off. While most pieces were tender and juicy, some were super dry and almost impossible to chew! I tossed those out. Fortunately they give more than enough pork chop. The spring rolls were still a little crispy, and very yummy. My other colleague who got the same dish really enjoyed it as well! My colleague who got the Bahn mi said that by the time she got around to eating (2 - 3 hours after the food was delivered), the bread was very difficult to eat, but she still liked it overall. Their consistency has gotten a lot better. Honestly, I got sick and came here all the time for their chicken pho and combination pho with no meatballs. Amazing! To one of the reviewers below, the sweet taste you taste in the broth isn't hoisin sauce. That sweet taste comes when you genuinely boil broth with the actual bones. My own mom makes chicken soup and beef soup from scratch and it has that sweet aroma to it. Our palate is so used to other foods that our taste buds genuinely cannot detect whether something is "good" or not. The people working here have gotten nicer. I thought some of them were bipolar because there were times when I came and I am a regular and they genuinely were upset when I tried to get my free pho from the points and get a combination pho with no beef. One of the waitresses in an upset tone told me that the free pho only applies to a chicken pho or a beef pho. I was chill and said okay I can get the chicken pho. What happened to being nice! I have spent quite a bit at the restaurant. I started coming here since I moved to NYC from California and I used to commute from Flatbush to here in order to eat. I tried the sizzling pancake (only available Monday - Thursday), and now I finally understand why this place is Michelin recommended. I was expecting something like a south Indian Uttapam, but I couldn't have been any more wrong. The crepe was thin and crispy on the edges and just a little gooey in the middle, like a perfectly cooked chocolate chip cookie. And it was topped with all of the stuff that normally is served in the side of your Pho order, plus pickled carrots and a couple other things. This one dish is outrageously good, and imho it's well worth a trip to The Bronx just to try it. I'm pretty sure that you can only get this by going to the restaurant, and that it's not available on Uber eats. Other things I get all the time are the Banh Mi, which is roughly in the same ballpark as something like Num Pang. So not as good as Saigon Sandwich in SF, but on par with the best in Banh Mi in NYC. The Pho is also decent, honestly I've had better elsewhere, but if you're in the mood for pho and want delivery then it's certainly a serviceable option. The best of their phos that I've had is the beef, although I haven't tried the seafood yet. (Which I'll have to do, now that I see it was recommended by the NYT.) update: Just tried the new chicken wings, which have now surpassed Boka to become my all-time favorite chicken wings. The wings have a perfectly crispy shell that surrounds the entire wing but somehow almost doesn't even touch it. I highly recommend the version that comes on top of rice with a salad, a perfect meal. A friend suggested stopping here before we headed to Glow at the NYBG in the Bronx. They drove, and found parking pretty easily on the street. Tasted filtered and was refilled promptly. Plenty of attention and recommendations from the servers. No rush while taking time to look over the digital menu from the QR code on the table. I scoped out other patrons meals and saw lots of Pho going around. I saw a pork chop bahn mi and juicy looking wings. Decided to go with the lemongrass chicken sandwich and Goi cuon, fresh shrimp rolls. My friend had the seafood pho and her husband had the pork chop Bahn mi. The wrapper on the rolls was a little hard and chewy, and so was the chicken in my sandwich, but the flavors were great. Added chili oil to everything to give it an extra kick. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. My friend said the seafood pho was tasty and so was the pork chop sandwich. I had the bubble tea and loved it. Customer service was excellent, food is a solid 7 1/2. I visited the NYBG on Saturday and stopped by this place on my way back to manhattan. Street parking was available nearby but it took us about 15 min of driving around until we found a spot. The restaurant is pretty small. Very casual, super busy, lots of take-out orders and uber pick-ups. It makes you feel like you've come to the right spot. We ordered the summer roll, pho bo, and com tam ninh kieu (house specials), and ice coffee. The summer roll was very tasty - I have never had the rice paper so chewy! It had a relatively strong mint flavor, but i liked it. Pho bo was awesome! The house special was my least favorite, just because I was unfamilar with many of the stuffs inside the dish. This is a strange review, in that this place is literally the only Vietnamese restaurant in the Bronx, so I want them to succeed. It's pretty okay, and that's fine. I love their beef brisket and bone marrow banh mi insides, but the bread they use isn't as crunchy, crusty outside as it's supposed to be. More of a softer water dough bread. They have a lot of classic dishes, and I appreciate that they do fresh lime soda. They close for an hour between lunch and dinner, so keep that in mind. I wish they would dust the corners and fans more- I get skeeved seeing the lack of attention paid to cleaning the dining area outside the tables and chairs, but that's visuals more than anything else. They've recently changed management, gussied up the place, and shortened the menu (the old school menu with pics is gone! *sad face*). Otherwise, the place has remained largely the same including the kitchen staff (but i miss the surly owner/waitress!) and the same flavors. What's changed are the prices (higher!) and the portions (smaller!). My husband ordered the combo bun recently and there was far less in the bowl than before "the change." This is a decent Vietnamese place, but definitely not worth the trek to the Bronx. I'm not sure if there have been management changes since the Michelin rating, but if this was the quality of food and service back when Com Tam Ninh Kieu received its Michelin rating, then the raters must have never tried good Vietnamese food. I ordered the beef pho and summer rolls. My friend ordered the seafood pho. The summer rolls were much smaller than they looked in pictures on yelp, but decently fresh and served with a nice thick peanut sauce. The pho broth was flavorful, but as my friend mentioned - a bit greasier than we both would have liked. The noodles were also not as chewy as I would have preferred and seemed quite a bit undercooked. The only redeeming factors were that there was plenty of brisket in my pho and a generous portion of provided condiments (basil leaves, bean sprouts, lime wedges, and jalapeno slices). Service was pretty lackluster. We had an empty water bottle and no glasses on our table. The server noticed, but had to be reminded to bring us a new water bottle. After we got our food, we were completely left on our own and had to walk up to the counter to pay our bill. No one at any point stopped by to ask how we had enjoyed our food or if there was anything else they could get us. I got the Vietnamese banh mi w/ an egg and it was so juicy, tender, and really flavorful, probably one of the best banh mi sandwiches I have had in awhile. Next I got the Pho Ga (chicken) which is only 10$ and its a large portion.
