I've had the chicken pho at Saigon Kitchen in Fort Lee at least once a week for the past two months, and it's truly unlike any other pho I've had. The chicken and pork are char-seasoned to perfection, giving the broth a rich, smoky flavor that's incredibly comforting. The manager is genuinely kind and thoughtful, especially when packing pho to go. Everything is separated perfectly so you don't end up with a spill (learned that the hard way). This has officially become our go-to spot on cold nights when we're craving comfort food. To start, I love the summer shrimp rolls and the Vietnamese rolls. They also offer green tea. The Xtra large phoe was amazing. The rib meat just melted it's soon as I picked up using the chopsticks. It literally broke apart. The soup was clear broth served in just right temperature. A big, clean Vietnamese restaurant. The pho bowl was big, and while I liked the tripe, beef eye round, tendon (tender!), brisket - the meatballs were a bit strange in texture, almost big and a bit dry, like chunky overcooked meatballs? Anyway, the XL had a lot of noodle, didn't finish. I've had better pho - this was ok, but not as rich broth that I've had from some shops that cook the bones longer (my Vietnamese friend shared that guiding tip with me in making our own). The spring rolls were ok; half were burst open and too dry/crisp/oily inside, so had better elsewhere. Also would've liked it if they had some more pickled radish and carrots to balance for the single large piece of lettuce wrap. Mehhh, I hate having a disappointing meal. I was really craving pho, so I decided to check out Saigon Kitchen, a Vietnamese eatery located in the heart of Fort Lee. The restaurant has a casual and cozy atmosphere with touches of traditional decor like bamboo sticks, wooden furniture, and open spaces with natural light. There are tables and booths to accommodate both small and large groups. I came in as a solo diner on a weekday afternoon and was seated immediately. There can be long wait times during peak dining hours, so I suggest coming earlier if you don't want to wait for a while. The menu has your classic Vietnamese dishes like pho, banh mi, shaken beef cubes, lemongrass chicken, etc. They also have specialty Asian fusion dishes. Prices are fair and there's a 5% cash discount. No complaints on the service. The servers are very friendly and warm. They start you off with complimentary hot tea. My food came out quickly. I ordered... *Lemongrass Beef Grilled Skewers $9.95 (includes 2 skewers, spring onion, fried onion flakes, & soy bean peanut sauce) - The flavors were SO OFF. The peanut sauce had a funky taste. It barely tasted like peanuts. I don't know if they used too much vinegar or sugar, but either way... the ingredients were completely unbalanced! The lemongrass marinade was not good at all. Meat that's been marinated with lemongrass usually has a very fragrant, tangy, and smoky aroma... this was not the case here. There was an overpowering minty/herbal/grassy flavor. Did they forget to add in shallots, garlic, fish sauce, brown sugar, lime, or soy sauce???? Not a terrible experience overall, but not memorable or great either. The staff is sweet and the ambiance is super homey... but the food was a disappointment. We ordered their spring rolls, salad rolls, and lemongrass wings for appetizers and for entrees, we tried their BBH, vermicelli bowl, and fried rice. Their spring rolls were solid but I felt like the rice paper was a bit hard. Their other appetizers were also decent but nothing crazy. Their entrees were really good portions and full of meat and veggies, which I loved. We were back at SK for Sunday lunch. We walked in few minutes after opening, so got a table right away. The restaurant got almost full within next 15 minutes. The restaurant as usual, was super clean, organized and filled with wonderful decors. This time I had couple of new items that I didn't try before. The chicken wings were surprisingly really good. Soft moist chicken with layer of crispy skin. Then I had the grilled rice platter with chicken, beef and shrimp. The plate came with huge chunks of rice, lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes and of course the delicious fish sauce. Loved everything in the plate, tasted so good. Service was excellent. My husband's family and I have been here multiple occasions. We absolutely love the food here. If you're coming here at night time, be prepared to wait. That was our first mistake the first time we tried to come here at night with no reservation. Since we were a party of 6 with 3 additional little ones, we couldn't be seat for a while. We use to visit this place frequently but as life got busier we started ordering from here via Uber Eats and it's still pretty good. Food arrives warm and the spring rolls are still very crispy, just wish they included more than one piece of lettuce. The pho here is very flavorful and they pack the soup separately so the noodles dont get soggy. They often run offers on deliver services and when you order directly from them too. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I order from here pretty frequently since it's my favorite pho restaurant in the area. You can't go wrong with any of the choices; they're all solid. What I usually gravitate towards: * Appetizers: Summer Rolls ($7.95) for some fresh veggies before your meal, NOT the fried Spring Rolls ($8.95); Steamed Vietnamese Dumplings ($9.95); Peppered Calamari ($9.95) * Veggie Pho ($12.95): fav. veggie pho in the area. Love that they have broccoli, carrots, bokchoy, yummy (most likely fried) tofu, as well as other ingredients. There were a couple of other pho places that made it with peas and green beans, and they did not do the soup justice. Warning! You must have the veggie pho with the original beef broth, NOT the veggie broth. The veggie broth is nasty. * Of course, most people get their Beef Pho [$12.95] or the Beef Combo Pho [$16.95]. Nothing too crazy or special from other restaurants, but still good. (The Spicy Lemongrass Pho [$14.95] was really good too. It's not that spicy and the lemongrass flavor is nice.) * Their House Fried Rice ($13.95; choice of chicken, pork, veggie, beef, or shrimp) is yummy. Tastes like a fried rice version of Banh Mi. * Banh Mi ($9.95; choice of chicken, pork, tofu & mushroom, or classic): can't go wrong with this sandwich. Love the combination of their BBQ and picked radish and carrots as well as cilantro. Yum. * House Crab Fried Rice ($18.49): If you love crabs, get this!!! They put a generous portion of actual crab meat and fish roe in this dish. As great as their food is, I do have to say that you're better off getting Pad Thai at a Thai restaurant rather than here. First off - I am incredibly picky with pho. I decided to try this place through uber eats and WOW, it did not disappoint! I ordered the Pho House Speciality Soup with Beef and the broth was super tasty on its own and was topped with a ton of scallions. Beef was also tender and not fatty at all. The dish came with a siracha/oyster sauce mixture which added a new level of flavor to the pho. Also ordered the chicken skewers and the spring rolls which were both equally good. I did takeout here, and ordered the Beef Combo Pho along with the fried Spring Rolls and Pepper Calamari and while the service was fine, unfortunately the food was underwhelming. This is mainly due to how the Pho is packaged for takeout. The meat does not come separately in it's own package but rather right in the container with the broth which I thought was unusual from my experience with take out Pho from other places. It's usually separated so that the meat doesn't get over cooked. Well, guess what - this made all the meat overcooked. The slices of beef were all overdone and dry. The brisket was dry. The tripe was really chewy. The tendon was almost non-existent. The meatball was dry and gritty. I think they should rethink putting the meat in the broth for take out. To top that off, the container leaked in the bag making everything wet. Also, two mint leaves and less than a handful of bean sprouts with 2 jalapeno slices just seemed very skimpy. I am surprised that it didn't come with siracha but a container with what tasted like hot sauce and plum sauce together. The broth was ok, but there just wasn't enough to make it taste "fresh" and the dry meat was off-putting. The fried spring rolls weren't bad, but with the 4 rolls, I received 1 lettuce leaf (!) and 2 slices of cucumber. One lettuce leaf?! The pepper calamari was fine but the portion was not big and it filled less than half of the container it came in. Anyway, the food was serviceable for take out, but not something I would do again. I am sure eating in is an entirely different experience, but for take out, it could be a lot better - at least for these items. Dined here around 6:30 on a Friday night. It was already very busy. The restaurant is a decent size; they were able to seat parties as large as 10 in a timely manner. They turn the tables over quickly. They were asking me if I wanted to order before my friend even got there! All the staff seem to work together so you don't necessarily have one server. We started with the pepper calamari. The pepper gave it the slightest kick but the sweet chili sauce it comes with balanced it out. I had the seafood noodle soup. I really enjoyed this soup! It felt like a very healthy meal. I had them make it with vegetable broth instead of chicken stock so my meal was completely meatless. There was a nice sweetness to it and definitely had not only a nice mixture of seafood but an ample amount as well. I'm glad I was able to take some home to enjoy again later. I've already suggested that my family try this place and order take out. Parking is a bit tough even though their main entrance is in the municipal lot.
