A new Salvadoran restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place has a nice, pleasant atmosphere, and the decor is modern.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was efficient and fast, and the food was the best part. it was delicious, with authentic flavors!

You would never guess there is a cozy little restaurant tucked between a row of neighborhood shops. Honestly, if I had not mapped it out beforehand, I probably would have driven right past it and cried later. So why did we end up here? It was a sunny Sunday afternoon, we had just wrapped up some activities in Redwood City, and we were in that "we are hungry but do not know what we want" phase. Living on the east side of the bay, I really miss good Hispanic food on this side, so Yelp became my best friend for the day. After a quick search this hidden gem popped up. Parking was a little tricky at first, but I took it as a test of fate. Just as I turned in front of the restaurant, a single street parking spot opened up right there. I pulled in and decided it was destiny. This place was meant for us. The menu is not huge, but the options are interesting, and the real star of the show is the pupusas. Make sure you ask about the special of the day. I have been here twice now. The first time I had caldo de pollo. The second visit I ordered caldo de res. Both were hearty, comforting, and full of flavor. Each bowl came with a scoop of tasty rice and two plain pupusas that did not stay plain for long. My kids went straight for the cheese and chicken pupusas and demolished them. My boss, also known as my wife, loved her garlic and pork pupusas, especially after adding some of the red salsa, which has just the right amount of kick, and a pile of pickled cabbage. I tried to steal a bite, but parenting karma showed up and I was left with the kids plain cheese pupusas. Still delicious, but not quite the same. They also brought out complimentary fried yuca with beans, which was such a nice touch. We ordered the yuca fries with chicharrones as well, and that plate is a serious meal. Fried yuca, lightly pickled cabbage, extra crispy chicharrones, and a generous drizzle of that savory red salsa. My my my, by the end I was one bite away from rolling myself out the door. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe is warm and relaxed, and the staff are genuinely friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] By the second visit we already felt like regulars. We truly enjoyed our time here, and it feels great to support a small local business like this. We will definitely be back. Next time I am getting my own order of garlic and pork pupusas so I do not have to negotiate with the kids or my wife.

The menu is fairly slim, which I actually appreciated. Coupled with the very reasonable prices, my friend and I were able to sample most of the menu We didn't love the horchata, which tastes very different from the Mexican horchata we were used to, but the food was all pretty good. We got three pupusas (calabaza, ajo y queso, and revuelta), which honestly tasted somewhat similar. I actually preferred the first two, as the revuelta came with a small portion of ground pork and noticeably less cheese. I'd recommend getting pupusas with apps (like the pastelitos/empanadas) for more variety Our favorite item was actually the complementary chips with the bean dip! The main downside is it took over an hour for us to get served our food -- the owner was very apologetic and explained some of their staff was out, but we also never received the Yuca fries we'd ordered.

Ceviche

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The service was great, the ambiance was great, and the food was amazing![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered, platanos fritos, ceviche, pupusas and the courtesy chips they serve are really good! My favorite was the authentic horchata they serve! I even took some to go [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was clean and the bathroom was too, you don't see that often.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Breakfast pupusas with the pickles, and a side of horchata

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful space in the part of Middlefield Road with tons of delicious Central American food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Street parking is hard to come by but there's a parking lot 2 blocks down if you need it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's not particularly busy on the Sunday we showed up, but the space is small and there's always 2-3 tables occupied.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We wanted some pupusas so we both opted for the breakfast pupusas with an egg and some extra chunky tomato sauce on top of it. While we waited, we also got yucca fries and bean dip on the house -- those are pretty tasty! And I got a horchata that is more nutty than the Mexican ones, which tasted familiar, like Taiwanese traditional nut milks. The pupusas came hot and crispy, and they are quite huge! I couldn't finish the 2 that I got, but they were quite tasty. I liked the one with meat a bit more than the garlic cheese one. Even though they aren't crispy anymore when I reheated them the next day, I feel the flavors got even better. [[HIGHLIGHT]]All in all, it isn't mind blowing (there are other pupusa places I do love), but it's super comfortable to sit in and the service is nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would definitely come back again!

Super high quality popusas, the best I've had by far. The cabbage and salsa pairing take it to the next level! Can't wait to go back.

The food was great. We had pupusas revueltas and appetizers of Yuka fries with this great tasting sauce. We also got some fries with beans and cheese as complementary. Oh and OMG the horchata was so good!! It didn't taste watered down or anything it was delicious! Server was very kind and attentive to us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And the inside is small and intimate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I loved their little sauce containers and plates it was as very nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Ridiculously good and authentic tasting meaning not oily or too salty. Was a great comfort to walk by the kitchen and seeing all the tias making the food from scratch. I think I'll have to say this is the best Salvadoran food I've ever tasted! Must go back!

Been back 3 more times! Every time I'm impressed with the quality of food and care put into preparation (everything always tastes freshly cooked, with good ingredients and just the right balance of seasonings) Churros were amazing, would highly recommend. Super freshly fried, not under seasoned, but also not overly sweet. chocolate, strawberries, and ice cream brings it all together. Whole fried fish special is not always available, but was undoubtedly awesome. The rice was cooked in some sort of broth to be tender, and then was fried up pilaf style, which was delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also, the bathroom was very clean, nicely decorated, and even lightly perfumed with some scent sticks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Every time I come here, I leave looking forward to the next time I'll be back!

Pupusas

The food was great!!! I tried all flavors of pupusas except the queso y ajo. Everything was great! I also got the pastelitos and empanadas de leche. Definitely coming back. Parking is tricky since it's pretty limited.

It's a food truck parked on the street near the corner of the shopping center nearby. Parking was pretty easy on the street or in the nearby shopping center. Don't expect an area to eat or tables unless you're gonna walk down to the shopping center or take it to go as most people do. The staff was very friendly and full of smiles, and I was able to order with my broken Spanish. Food: I wanted to try a variety of pupusas so got the Revueltas, spinach with cheese, and lorocco with cheese. All were very tasty and I would love to try the rest of the menu as well. My favorite by far is the pupusa Revueltas. This is as close to authentic Salvadoran you can get until you try the local cheeses in El Salvador.

I ordered 4, all different, plus 3 pastor tacos. After I placed the order, he told me it would be about 15 minutes, great sign since it meant they would be freshly made. The pupusas were all $4 each and simply delicious. Loved the flavor of them and the curtido. I sent out a whatsapp to the family to have them all drop by to try these. Far better than most places around here that I've tried.

There were a lot of complaints about service but no complaints about food so we decided to try it out. Ordered 4 chicharron pupusas and one carnitas taco. Just ordered the taco because I am a deep deep lover of carnitas and I wanted to try it. Under $25. The place was packed with all Latinos ... first good sign. Lots of the complaints were about timely-ness, and I say to those people, relax. Everybody was working super hard and fast, and it is just really busy at lunch. It takes a little time to get your food, but it was absolutely worth it. these might be the best pupusas I've ever had. They brought out three salsas for us, and I was partial to the green. The pupusas were chock full of cheese and chicharron to the rims. Fried perfectly. The carnitas taco was amazing! The pork was so crispy and delicious. As to the service, ours was great. The tables were all full, but a couple of guys said we could sit at their table because they had two empty seats. Thank you! A young person with bleached hair wearing a baseball cap (sorry I should've asked your name) was really attentive. He cleaned our table and brought us ice water. I can't wait to go back! I will be getting more pupusas, and my mom wants all carnitas tacos all day.

Everything was ordered to go about 45 minutes prior to closing and took about 25 minutes to make. The price for the amount of food is decent. I usually order Pozole, but that dish is only during the winter time. So I ordered a cup of tortilla soup! The chicken was fresh and delicious, and the broth was so good I drank it all. The salsa trio is always my favorite appetizer because of the spicy mango salsa! I finish it every time. I also got the Plátanos cubanos, but I got the toppings on the side so I could enjoy their plantains by themselves. As an appetizer, snack, meal, or dessert, plantains are the best. I ordered a side of rice with my steak tacos too, and I have to say this rice is the most similar to the type my mom makes at home. Not too tomatoey, but perfectly moist and tasty. I opted out of getting a cocktail today, so I got a mocktail. I was craving agua de jamaica, which they didn't directly have, but this "zero proof" cocktail hit the spot ;) As for the steak tacos, the steak was a little too chewy for my liking, but that's because I usually get my steak well done (I know, don't judge). The biggest disappointment however was when I looked at my receipt. In addition to taxes and tipping, I was another charged 3.5% for "state mandate." I inquired and was told that since the restaurant has to provide medical insurance, their employees they charge customers for that now. It's just so shady that this is not disclosed ahead of time or at least no obvious and it's only if you look at your receipt, do you see you're being charged this additional fee. Word for the wise it is optional despite the mandatory language on the receipt, so I encourage everyone to refuse to pay. You are not the one employing the employees, the employer is.
