Tried to purchase Pa's Mess today for my son to eat before his class tonight. After driving around the block to find a parking place, crossing the street and climbing over a snow back, I arrived to find a small sign on the door saying they are closed to "support immigration" ???? How is closing a restaurant on Main Street in Concord, MA supporting immigration? Or our economy? Or anything else? At the very least, they should have posted a huge "Closed" sign so patrons on a Thursday afternoon won't bother to park and walk to the restaurant. read more

So I've eaten here and I must say, it's just middle of the road. Nothing impressed me here and it seems as though their dishes are nothing more than different types of pasta thrown together. I'm Italian, from NY (the Bronx to be exact, aka "Home of the greatest sports franchise EVER"), and even lived in Italy. The food here didn't remind me of anything my family made, people in my hometown, or Italy. It reminded me more of what I made in college when I didn't have enough ingredients to make one complete dish. So I would mix everything together. This place is terrible. I ordered something to be delivered. Apparently, the driver just left it on my doorstep. No knock, no phone call. Food just sat there until I called and asked where my food was. The person on the other line clearly didn't care about their terrible service. To top it off, the food wasn't even good. I can't even....... I tried, I really did. This is the second time we have ordered from Comelas in 6 months - being very clear we were vegetarian and wanted to make sure there was no meat in our food. The first time we ordered & As soon as we got home and opened the meals there was meat in the Mess!!! Ugh!!! We figured we would give them a break and didn't go back there for six months. Fast forward to today. Ordered food again - A "mess" and some other things. Over the phone as well as in person I asked repeatedly "there's no meat in this right?" I was assured there was no meat and everything was vegetarian. Got home and opened up the food and there is a giant slab of meat right on top of the Mess!! Again!!! . Taste: The cheese pizza was delicious and at that price I can't complain. It's not a special pizza, it's just cheese, DUH. Location: Just happens to be near my work, so it was convenient and I found a parking spot right in front of the shop! Delicious cheese pizza for $5 per pie is unbelievably inexpensive. Eggplant parmesan is my absolute favorite, but this place is known for it's "messes". You can get them by the tray or bucket. The worst!!!! Eggplant parm with ziti came to our table with COLD sprinkled mozzerella on top & ziti ice cold. When I expressed surprise and dismay the girl said she would put it in the microwave. This is an amazing find in Concord. We each had something different. Alex had a calzone he inhaled. Paul had a meatball sandwich. He inhaled his sandwich too. I had a chicken club with avocado - to die for. I wish I could have eaten the whole thing. I also got some yummy cookies. We are on vacation so we couldn't take the leftovers home. We're a little short on take out in Concord, so I was happy to see the opening of Comella's- I'd been to a few other locations. On our last visit, it was a zoo, with confusion around those staying and those waiting for pick-up. One of the teenagers who worked there was so shockingly rude to me and my 6 yr old twins that her co-worker offered an embarrassed an unsolicited apology. My husband heard the story and called, asked that a manager call him back. No one ever called. Give your business to a local restaurant that has polite, competent staff. read more

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible..I just ate at Comella's in Bedford, Mass and I will never ever go back. The sauce tastes like Ragu with added sugar. The chicken parm dish was chewy and bland tasting. On top of that, it was drenched in sauce. This food is so bad, I couldn't eat it, nor could my other friends. The pizza was mostly cheese with little sauce and tasted bland. The Gluten free pizza was burnt on bottom, sodden with an excessive amount of veggies on top. The staff was polite but distant. The men's restroom was dirty with discarded paper towels in the corner behind the door. Being ASD the facilities echo too much, so I would not recommend this as an autism friendly environment either. The comellas in Bedford made me wait 45 minutes for 2 pizzas when they said 15-20 minutes on the phone, and then got the order wrong ... There were 7 people behind the counter just standing around. They "lost" my order and used that bs excuse for why it was taking so long. Everybody just wanders around doing absolutely nothing even though there was a long line at the to-go line. I have been in Concord since Comella's opened at the little cafe in the alley way. It used to be a reliable, good place to get take out or go eat dinner with family/friends. Since it moved, it has gone downhill a lot. Pros: The food is pretty good, and you can't beat a $5 cheese pizza that is actually good. The staff are usually friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is nice. Cons: My order is almost never correct, even though i've ordered several times hoping that this time it'll be correct. There is new staff almost every time I walk in there (not just on different shifts) and people are getting trained all the time. There are minimal tables. They do a bad job of balancing when your food is done, so your pizza might be finished 25 minutes before they even start your pasta, so it's cold in the end. I'm giving it 2 stars for its decent service and decent food. Overall, if you want to eat at Comellas, eat at the restaurant (if you can find a table) or go to the one down the road in Bedford. read more

A great casual dining restaurant. You order at the counter, sit where you would like, and the food comes out to you. There are just a few categories of items in the menu - pizza, "messes", and entrees. We ordered 2 Nephew's messes with eggplant and meatballs. Our "mess" came with baked ziti, but apparently it can come with whatever pasta the chef chooses in the kitchen. The pasta was well cooked, the sauce, and add-ins was tasty. Perfect amount of food so you can eat the whole (single portion) and leave a very satisfied customer. The price for single options is a reasonable $8. A full tray (double bucket) that serves 20 can be up to a ridiculous $116. Better stick to Comella's for a night on the town rather than catering. read more

But for purposes of Yelp, Comella's only gets two, because I can't in good conscience give them three, and yelp insists on whole numbers. Sadly, Comella's is not worthy of an "A-OK" rating. We found ourself in Monument Square in Concord, without any idea where we should eat. We saw Comella's and thought we'd try it. We did not know that it was a chain, since we are from Providence, RI and don't have a location here. We ordered a Sicilian Pizza. When it arrived, one side was too heavy on the cheese with almost no tomato sauce, and the rest of the pizza was extremely light on the cheese. It was almost as if all the cheese jumped to the other side when it was thrown in the oven. Regardless, nothing was a standout on the pizza. The cheese, sauce, and crust were all just so-so. Perhaps I am spoiled in Rhode Island by Caserta Pizza and Tommy's. Perhaps that pizza we ordered at Comella's passes for a Sicilian in greater Boston. But if it does, I recommend a trip to Rhode Island to fulfill any quest for good Sicilian pizza. We didn't find it in Concord. The atmosphere in the joint was ok. Nice old brick walls and photos of the brat pack. But several tables had abandoned plates waiting to be cleaned up. I won't be back. read more

The food used to be better. I have been to Comellas many times. I usually order the Little Abby special (one meatball with spaghetti). Although the price has not changed, the meatball is half the size it used to be and the pasta portion is a lot smaller. It is now placed on a smaller plate trying to disguise this. One of the better Italian food chains in Massachusetts. You can get a large cheese pizza for six bucks and it is pretty good pizza too. Comparable to Papa Gino's if that gives you an idea, definitely better than the majority of Greek places in New England. I purchased a $19 pizza there yesterday. It was tasteless. I thought maybe it was just me...but when my husband came home and tried a slice he agreed that it was tasteless. What I can't figure out is how a pizza covered in grilled chicken, peppers, onions and mushrooms could lack taste. In fact, i tried to give my husband the leftover slices this morning to take to work for lunch and he didn't want it. In addition, one of the staff behind the counter was so busy constantly gabbing (loudly) to the other staff member. I absolutely LOVE coming here! The food is solid, nothing too out of this world, however, for the quality and quantity of the food that I got, it has to be the best deal in the area. They hire young, energetic kids from the local high school to come work and they always seem to have a smile on their faces. To be frank, I have no idea how anyone could rate this place under three stars. They must have ridiculously high standards and have to realize that there is no cheap Italian restaurant that can make you feel like you are in Italy. Does this place earn five stars? This place is terrible. I ordered a mess dish ( which is actually pretty decent) with a side of garlic bread and they gave me an untoasted piece of bread covered in melted butter. My bread was wet. Very very unappealing. They charged me a dollar for it. I went again yesterday and ordered a chicken parmigiana entree with a side of garlic bread. I specifically asked the girl on the phone to make sure they toast the bread because last time it wasn't. She said she would. I go to pick up my food and again, wet butter bread. Disgusting. I threw it out. Called back to complain, the girl didn't even know what to say and barley apologized. I asked her to have the owner call me because this was he second time. I have not heard back from him. I guess he doesn't care about making the customer happy. On top of that, the chicken was ok but he pasta was bland as can be. Literally boiled pasta with no salt and thrown in a container with barley any sauce. I threw it out. Waste of money. How could they feel good about selling tasteless, bland, food?? Also, I think they have no idea what garlic bread looks like because they are awful at making it!!! I also put up a picture of what garlic bread is supposed to look like. Nothing really wrong with the pizza. It just wasn't my thing. Generic dough that was slightly undercooked, sauce was too sweet and overwhelming, and cheese was similar to something you might find in a hospital cafeteria. Breaded chicken was good though. read more

Where do I even begin... They were rude and dismissive, telling us that we had to get our meals to go because they were closing in 20 minutes. Never been to a restaurant where they try to send you away like that. I was going to get the squash ravioli, and I asked if there was nuts in it (I have an allergy) because, you know, just in case. Apparently there were, and then the cashier asked the kitchen about the other ravioli and apparently they ALL had nuts in them. When does ravioli ever have nuts in it? That is a disaster waiting to happen for anyone with a nut allergy. But I haven't gotten to the worst of it yet. We decided instead to order salads, I got a caprese and my mom got a Cobb salad. They really weren't great, just passable. Later that night though, both of us were throwing up and felt horrible. Pretty sure we got food poisoning from there, it lasted for days and we had fevers too, could barely even drink water. I'm not joking, this actually happened.
