Comet has the best croissants I've ever had. They're the perfect amount of flakey and buttery and they are SOO GOOD. I popped in before work on a Friday morning and they were busier than I expected so there was a short line before ordering. You really can't go wrong with any pastry, but I got the chocolate croissant and my friend got the ham & cheese one. I've also stopped at their table at tower grove bakery and gotten the lavender lemon morning bun. All of the pastries are soooo good and a perfect treat! I also got the honey lavender iced latte (half sweet) and it was tasty. Highly recommend coming here!! I will be back to try more pastries!! read more

My husband and I love Comet! We love the staff here and they are so helpful. There is seating inside, but it is limited. On nicer days, there is seating outside. I'd never heard of this place. It was recommended by a member of my running group as a place we might visit to celebrate a successful training block, however that's determined. The name calls to mind a kind of soap that existed when I was younger and might still to this day. I questioned whether this was a place that exists, and I think that annoyed my training partner, because I question roughly every third thing that she says, in part for my own personal amusement, and she tends to be right about these things at least on occasion. Come to find out, there is a place called Comet Coffee, on Oakland across the street from Forest Park, next to the community college, in a building that might also house a hotel. I'm not sure. There was a sign for a hotel near where you need to turn if you need to park in the rear. No Diddy. Otherwise, there's no indication that there's parking available in the rear, that I'm aware of. There's parking out front, but it's limited in quantity, and you have to park on a diagonal. A few people couldn't get this quite right and took up more than one space, and that even further limited the amount of parking available out front. I found a space that I thought might work, but a driver in, wouldn't you know, a Nissan Altima pulled up and blocked it so that I couldn't back in. I'd tempted fate and had coffee before I ran, so it wasn't even worth having to get out of the car and teach someone a valuable lesson. What is the deal with this strip anyway? As was the case with Modern Brewery, which I visited a couple of weeks ago, I wonder what community college attendee has $15 to blow on a coffee and a croissant. Wouldn't they just attend a real college? I even know a few people who teach community college. They might be worse off than the students. Does this place cater to people in nearby office buildings? I don't get a communal, trustafarian vibe from this place. You wouldn't want to work on your screenplay here, and you might not be allowed to. The inside is cramped, and the overall vibe is not altogether different from a Panera. It's set up like a Jersey Mike's, with a row of tables along the wall and barely enough room between there and the counter for a line that forms in the rear of the restaurant, near where you enter if you're forced to park out back. (There's also a few tables out front, if weather permits.) It gets loud, and there's always someone standing over you. Obviously, that's only an issue if you "dine" in. If this place is convenient for you, and you have the means, you might honestly want to stop by on occasion and just grab takeout. I'm no expert when it comes to coffee or baked goods, but this place has to be up there in both regards. I went with a caramel latte and a plain croissant. I had my eye on some sort of pistachio croissant, but it was late when I got there and some lady ahead of me in line snagged it. They were down to just a few items left, but you probably can't go wrong with anything they sell. The plain croissant was a revelation. Even the croissants they use for the breakfast sandwiches at Burger King are delicious, but this was transcendent. It somehow managed to taste more like butter than biting into a stick of actual butter. The exterior looked dry, which it kinda was, but in a good way, but the interior was, uh, warm and inviting. The latte was served in a mug that felt premium, with impressive (because I can't do it) latte art. The head, if that's what you call it, was thick like a milkshake, and I may have gotten some on my trash 'stache. Is that because I opted for whole milk instead of skim or, God forbid, soy? It was only right, with this being America and all. I probably won't be back, unless I'm dragged back in by the same girl whose idea it was today. If I am, I'm going hog wild. read more

This coffee shop is right around the corner from work and has become my weekly treat. Stopping in and seeing all of the baked goods piled high is a dream. My go to is the bear claw and a chai latte with oat milk. It's a cute little bakery/coffee shop with a solid crew of regulars so expect a short wait from time to time. The baked goods are top tier, my chai tea is always perfect but the real stars are the staff! Everyone is always so incredibly sweet and helpful. Popped in here on a Saturday morning to a bit of a line, but we moved through it super quickly. I got a vanilla latte and the twice baked pistachio croissant. I love a good croissant, and this one definitely fit the bill. I feel like the twice baked really made the pistachio flavor really solid. Comet has been added to my list of weekly spots. I usually go when I do some airbnb cleaning at a property on hampton. It is always busy, and yes there is always a line. It's busy for a reason folks: it is fire. I will always be willing to wait 5-10 mins in line for a latte and cookie of this magnitude. So amazing. Plus, the people are amazing. I visited for the first time on a Sunday morning, and it was absolutely packed! The line wrapped around out the door, but it moved pretty quickly. I ordered an iced pumpkin latte, and it was pretty good! The pumpkin taste was not overpowering. However, the latte itself seemed to taste more than milk than coffee. My friend ordered an iced vanilla latte, and hers had much more of a coffee flavor. The employee taking my order at the counter was extremely friendly and welcoming. All of the pastries looked INCREDIBLE. Although I did not try any of them during my most recent visit, I absolutely plan to get some next time. They really get you with all of the delicious looking baked goods! As you wait in line the baked goods stare at you and you really want to try them all. We got a quiche, croissant, and an almond chocolate croissant and all of them were absolutely delicious. We also got a couple of lattes which were also very tasty. The line can be long, but don't let that deter you, especially if you just want a baked good. After a little GPS mishap, we made it in here (I suggest you come in from the side facing Oakland, trying to navigate from the parking lot side was weird) but when we made it in, we were met with some exceptional baked goods and perfectly good, solid cups of coffee. Yesterday I was craving scones and I saw a review that said this place had the best in town. When we arrived, I was immediately charmed-- the place was totally packed, which was a good sign. There were gorgeous, happy plants all over! The decor was cute and simple, and had an inviting bookshelf with some great books available -- perfect for enjoying with a snack and a drink. The baked goods section sadly didn't have any scones today. I was stuck deciding between the morning buns and chocolate-almond croissants, and the super helpful barista suggested the morning bun with zero hesitation. The barista was so helpful and kind-- she really went above and beyond to describe the different drink options on the menu, including how popular each was and what people had thought about each as I tried to decide what to get. I really appreciated the thorough suggestions. I got the morning bun and it was sooooo good. Flaky on the outside, soft and chewy and moist inside, covered with orange cardamom sugar. Divine. I got an Ecuador pour-over coffee, black, and though it wasn't filled to the top, it was exactly what I wanted. The barista did not steer me wrong. My partner got an iced dirty chai latte, which he orders from various places often. At first sip, he rushed over to me and insisted I try it because "they nailed it." It was really tasty! He got a slice of coffee cake and devoured it. Lots of people were working at the various tables or chatting with friends. Though we took our order to go, we both agreed we should go back and work from there sometime. Lovely experience, A+! read more

Came here while moving/road tripping from Georgia to KCMO. A friend who lives in STL introduced it to me, and it's in a pretty convenient location that's a 5 minute walk from his apartment (so I can't really attest to the parking situation here). This place is hidden away in an office complex-looking building, but it has pretty great vibes once you're able to find it. I think it doesn't have enough indoor seating for the patronage they get, but it's excusable since they're sharing the overall space with other businesses. The pastries are phenomenal. We ordered a chocolate and almond croissant, chocolate croissant, pistachio croissant, and morning bun. This comfortably fed 3 people for breakfast. The croissants are wonderfully flaky and crunchy, and the morning bun had an addictive rosemary/citrus flavoring. My favorite pastry out of the ones we tried was the pistachio croissant, as I'm not a huge fan of chocolate flavored things in general. The coffee was splendid as well, I ordered a honey lavender latte and it was refreshing to drink the day after a grueling 8 hour drive. Service was also friendly. We asked for pastries for here and drinks to-go, and they were very accommodating. They gave us table service which was more than expected for a little cafe like this. I think the only gripe I have about this cafe is the pastry pricing. $5 for a croissant is a bit high. The tea is, according to my friend, "extremely worth it" because they steep an entire leaf of tea (instead of shredded/ground up leaves), and it can be re-steeped up to 8(?) times for an extremely reasonable price of $3-4. Coffee is standard pricing, maybe even a little cheaper than what I expected. Overall a very good cafe that I would frequent to treat myself if it fit into my budget. read more

Parking seems challenging at first, but they have a lot designated for businesses in the back that is free for two hours. The cafe is kind of small and busy so expect it to be loud there. A fantastic cafe near the Forest Park! My friend and I went there for a brunch before going to the park. We ordered an iced Latte and an iced Americano. The Latte tasted like a little more dark roasted, while the Americano was kinda like more light roasted (though we think they were made from the same beans lol, anw, interesting). We also had a Quiche. We both loved it! There's eggs and bacon in it, and the whole quiche was on the moist side and was appropriately balanced in flavors. Came here while visiting the city and decided on the chocolate croissant and morning bun. The chocolate croissant was phenomenal and had amazing lamination and was extremely soft and fluffy. The chocolate was a welcome addition to the croissant. The morning bun was also amazing. It had an orange and cardamom flavor infused throughout the entire pastry. It also had very defined lamination and was a bit more dense compared to the croissant, as expected. We also got a pot of tea and settled on the Jade Scroll. It was a very light green tea and it contrasted very well with the buttery pastries. The staff are very friendly and if you wanted to resteep the leaves, make sure to let them know and the Jade Scroll leaves were pretty good up to 3 brews. Comet is, by far, my most beloved place for a pick-me-up!! The inside space accommodates very few people, but they do have outside seating when the weather permits. Weekday or weekend, it is always packed with loyal customers, which exhibits how great their service and flavors are. My favorite drinks are their matcha, london fog, or lattes. While in STL I stopped here to meet up with an old friend before I left town. Comet is a small cafe along a strip that in my opinion was a challenge to park at, which is really my only beef with this spot! There is construction so I can't speak to how it is on a regular day when there isn't any added construction going on. I think for folks that aren't regulars there may need to be some better streetside signage because I noticed there was parking available BEHIND the building but either missed the entrance or just was blind to it on the two passes by the building I made while searching on a busy Thursday morning. Now onto the good stuff - the food! I think I timed it wrong since when I arrived the pastry case was pretty picked through, but I was dedicated to getting something here since the reviews of the pastries suggest they are bomb here. I settled on a pain au chocolat and truthfully it was the best one I've ever had outside of France. So flaky, so buttery, just the right amount of chocolate. I wasn't fully expecting that since this place is much smaller than I expected and the case wasn't very full, but that must have been why - because the pastries are just that good! When my friend arrived they had placed out more goodies and while I have no idea what she had, I remember it looked divine. As for the coffee I found it to be pretty standard coffeehouse fare, I enjoyed it but wasn't blown away. I would 10/10 return for a pastry though, and if you're in STL and want a delightful pick me up this is a solid choice. read more

Had hoped this would have been a little better . We're in town for soccer and need some coffee before the game. I wasn't impressed with the online menu so I asked my husband to just get me a black coffee. When he returned to the hotel with our order of 2 black coffees, an iced mocha and a couple of pastries that cost us $30. The pastries did not seem fresh at all, the pistachio croissant was very hard to eat, as a matter of fact we couldn't finish it. My husband had the tomato basil quiche and it was disgusting. It tasted like jellied canned tomato soup. The plain coffees were ok in the beginning, but once they started to cool off the flavor turned a little bitter/sour. The Mocha didn't even get drank halfway. Both of my children did not care for it. Overall the location was convenient being with in walking distance to the hotel but the food and drink were a definite let down. I probably wouldn't recommend this place. read more

I went to Comet Coffee today for the first time. The space itself is very nice, modern, and spacious. There was indoor and outdoor seating available with plenty of tables. It was, however, very crowded and slow. We waited in line and looked over their paper menus. There were lots of tea, coffee, & espresso drink options available along with lots of baked goods to choose from. I do wish they had a nice large menu up on the wall to look at! I ordered a caramel latte and my date ordered a vanilla latte. It took a long time to get our order because of how crowded it was. The drinks themselves were just okay. They were very thick and creamy and it almost tasted like the espresso was burnt. I had a very average experience! read more
