My wife, 2 year old daughter, and myself went to the Comfort Cafe for breakfast. The cafe exceeded expectations in every single regard. I had the western omelette and my wife the drunken monkey - both were amazing. My daughter's plate had one of the most perfect pancakes I've ever had. I could've eaten 3 stacks of them if I wasn't stuffed from my omelette! As mentioned by others - cash or check only, no prices, and all based on donations to help the wonderful staff whom are all at different stages of their recovery. My daughter is often a bit shy with strangers but they were all so friendly, she sure did get pretty smiley. Great group of people and sincerely wish them all the best in life. This is one of my all time favorite places for breakfast. When you walk in, it feels like home, everyone that works there is friendly and helpful, and the food is as good as grandmas house. Comfort Cafe is a recovery based restaurant so all of the employees are in the recovery program. The prices are by donation, so you go in and order and pay what you can. This helps the people in recovery have a sense of community and make some money. I love this idea, especially for customers that are hard on their luck and can't afford a big breakfast like this. The recovery journey is very personal for me, so the cause means the world to be a part of something like this when I go to eat there. BEWARE!! The portions are out of control huge! If you don't want a couple days of leftovers, you might think of splitting a dish, especially if it's the pancakes or parfait. My absolute favorite dish: Texas Benny. Can't go wrong with that and some hash browns If it's a weekend morning, get there early because the line can be out the door. This place is rather unique because they're serving fantastic food totally by donation. It is nonprofit helping people in recovery get back into society. My wife and I saw this place on Yelp while around the corner at the doctor's office. I saw all of these 5 star reviews and I just HAD to see what the hype was all about! Let me tell you, I wish I could give MORE than 5 stars for this experience!! When you first arrive here, you may get "hole in the wall" vibes just from the outside looks. This is a classic case of "don't judge a book by its cover". Most "hole in the wall" restaurants have turned out to be some of my most memorable experiences; this is one of those. I love what this restaurant stands for but I'll get to that later. Let's start with the food! Both my wife and I got the Lonestar and I upgraded my pancakes to Cinnamon Roll pancakes. There WASN'T A SINGLE THING on my plate that wasn't phenomenal! Let's start with the potato casserole. Potatoes cooked perfectly with a nice little crunch, very cheesy (just like I like it), good flavor and perfectly crunchy bacon bits. Eggs, bacon and sausage were perfection! Those Cinnamon Roll pancakes?? OMG! The pancake themselves were great; good batter, great fluff, perfect texture. Then to add Cinnamon Roll flavored cream on top turned them into a party in your mouth! Now I want to comment on what this restaurant stands for. It's a non-profit helping recovering addicts. All staff "employed" here are recovering addicts and are not afraid to mention that in conversation. A beautifully noble cause! We're all aware of the challenges recovering addicts have getting back on their feet so any business supporting them has my full support! All of the staff are incredibly friendly and very conversational. You can tell they're well taken care of. I love the outdoor space, very serene. I love the vibes here. Talk about living up to its name! The CC has delicious plates that hit the right spot on the comfort chart. We checked it out the first day of our girls trip and loved it so much that we came back the very next day. We would have eaten their every day if we could! The concept for this cafe renews my faith in humanity: a donation based where all the proceeds go towards a recovery program that supports everyone in the cafe working for it. I never written a yelp review before but this is just ridiculous. We waited a hour in line just for them to tell us at the front counter, that they only accept cash. The whole time we were in line there was no signs or no heads up that they were only accepting cash. We went outside as we left and there was no signs or anything at the front door. My morning on Mother's Day was ruined with waiting in that line just to find out at the end we couldn't even eat here. I have to say.... A++ on the time and effort it took to make the mosaic located on the side of this restaurant. There is a breathtaking walkway that leads to the back of this colorful restaurant. Once you walk down to the back you realize that there is more to this hidden gem. The back reminds me of a whimsical sanctuary. The colors and art are out if the world. There is a small waterfall/garden area with beches... Beautiful. You really dont see a place like this everyday. I ordered a cup of their coffee with their tuna melt. The marble rye bread that the tuna melt came on was a bit thin... Not the greatest flavor. The tuna however.. SPOT ON. Rich and creamy... Great taste. A downer is the fact they have no fries. Kind of a let down.. Their potatoes were savory and flavorful as well.. Not the best.. Just ok. Next time I will irder something off of their breakfast menu. Our daughter had told us about this place and we decided it was time to give it a try. The menu is, decadent, to use a word I don't have much occasion to. Oreos, chocolate, whipped cream, all the goodness you can't afford to eat and stay healthy. The special the first time we went was peanut butter bacon stuffed french toast. I love the sweet stuff so I can't say what healthy options there were, sorry, not my thing! We went a second time within a couple weeks even with the drive so this place is well worth the visit. My kids got Oreo and Chocolate chip pancakes and waffles. Wife got some crepes and an omelete. Beware, the arrangements are different than anywhere else. Cash/check only, so be prepared. They are donation based, so no set prices except for the specialty coffees whcih they require a donation for. There was seating available both times, even with a decent line on arrival. The cafe supports a good cause, and their story is on a pamphlet at the tables to browse while you wait for the food. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My women's ultimate frisbee team planned our annual weekend retreat at a ranch a little further south of here. The final event of our weekend get-together was a Sunday brunch. Fortunately for us, the original establishment we'd chosen was closed for the day. After a quick search for an alternative, we (a party of 14) arrived at Comfort Cafe. Our team does a substantial amount of travel, so we get to experience a lot of great local eateries all over the country. The consensus was that this is our FAVORITE place we've ever dined. Before entering, another patron approached us to say, "You can't go wrong with anything; EVERYTHING is good." The encouragement from a regular was promising, but we were shook to discover that not only was she right, but also how understandable it was that she felt so compelled and eager to recommend Comfort Cafe. It's hard to specify the MOST spectacular thing Comfort Cafe has to offer. There aren't words for how delicious the food was (you HAVE to try the lemon and blueberry pancakes). We experienced something more than "customer service." The CC team members created an environment of friendliness, camaraderie, and respect that transcended normal server-and-guest relationships. Brian helped get us situated and organized and had plenty of recommendations; Gunner greeted us kindly before taking our orders; and Sedley curated a comfortable and enjoyable vibe with some Simon & Garfunkel selections in the beautifully decorated, colorful courtyard. Finally, we were ecstatic to contribute to CC's mission of healing and reflect on the importance of meaningful community support together. We would recommend CC without hesitation. My goodness, this cafe has it all! I think it's the cleanest, most spotless place I've ever dined. That says a lot, but the FOOD is better than my home cooking. The husband was kind enough not to point this out, but maybe because his mouth was full of those delicious stuffed pancakes. I enjoyed a burger, which is my go-to in small town restaurants, and this was by far the BEST BURGER, and clearly made with care. Came here while visiting family and the ambience is nice tucked away in the alley with lots of workers and super friendly. I just wanted to buy a bag of beans as I was in a hurry. They didn't really sell beans but made it work. Got a pound of their Italian roast and just tried some at home. The flavor is good and would consider it dark roast. I hear the coffee flight is quite good and large breakfast menu as well. I hear this is a place giving people a second chance or just a chance to rebuild and work.
