Comfort inn Edgware
Pros
· This hotel is in a location that is accessible to busses and underground
· Beds were very comfortable
· Breakfast was pretty good: They had cheese, yogurt, boiled eggs, several breads and muffins, cereal, fruit, juice, and selections of coffee
· Front desk personnel were efficient and very patient with our many, many questions
· Especially appreciated the woman at the desk and Jawad, who helped us in many ways throughout our stay
Cons
· This was my first time in London, and the street was not what I expected. It was full of Middle Eastern shops (not British shops and pubs like I had pictured)
· The hotel looks tiny from the outside and the entry is not inviting
· When we were in 103, our key did not work, and it was very frustrating. We got 2 new cards before we figured out that we had to try the key at least 3 times to get it to work
· 103 was very cramped. My mom had a double bed and I had a twin. There was no lamp or table by my bed and she had to sit on my bed to use the hair dryer.
· We thought the power did not work, and my mom used the bathroom in the dark before we discovered that you have to leave the key card in the slot to get the power to work
· The air conditioner used a remote control, and it also took awhile for us to figure that out
· We expected little bottles of shampoo and lotion. Instead, the soap and shampoo were in dispensers in the wall, which again, took us awhile to figure out
· On the first night, our converter burned my cell phone charger- which could have been due to the electrical or a problem with the charger
On our second visit we stayed in room 401.
· This room is more spacious and comfortable and the key card worked on the first try.
· Free internet was advertised with the room (I am surprised that others are paying for Internet). Unfortunately, the Internet reception was spotty in both rooms. On some days we couldn't even get to the log in page. We were bumped off several times. We discovered that only one person could use the code at a time, so for the first few nights, one of us would get on and the other had no Internet all night. When we inquired about this, we were given a second code, which was nice. It would have been better to know this right away.
· In room 401, I could only get Internet reception in one corner of the room. I finally gave up and used my phone in the breakfast room. Each time we left the hotel, we had to re enter the internet code (if we could get to the log in page). We stayed at another hotel in Paris, which had great Internet and kept us logged in the whole time, so I am not sure what the problem at Comfort Inn is.
· The carpet on the stairs is very, very old and dirty looking. Also, the stairs are uneven and my mother took a bad fall trying to climb the 3 steps to our room in 401.
My suggestion would be to hire an extra clerk at the front, someone who is friendly and outgoing, to walk people to their rooms at check in and demonstrate the key card, the air conditioner, how to turn on the power, etc.
I'm not sure how the hotel can strengthen its Internet, but surely there's a way to make it more consistent and simple for guests.
I would also recommend brightening up the front entryway and putting warning signs by all steps, especially the ones by 401 where my mother got hurt.
Until the hotel is spruced up, I would suggest dropping the price quite a bit, and/or adding some bonuses like a complimentary water, a snack basket w/ water and few treats in each room, anything to set this dreary hotel apart from others of the same price. read more
