Extremely Disappointed with Hotel Owner and Unfair Business Practices! I am extremely disappointed with the customer service and business practices at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Harbor, Michigan. On 3/23/24 rented a conference room for a graduation party and had to cancel due to circumstances beyond our control. I called on May 17, 2024 to cancel and was informed that there was a two-week cancellation policy. When I pointed out to Sara that I was calling 15 days in advance, she then assured me that she would work on getting me a refund from their accountant since they don't keep cash on site. (I had paid $100 on my credit card on March 23 and $200 cash May 2.) However, when I went back for the refund 5/19/24, it wasn't ready. On Monday, May 20, I returned and was told that the owner decided to keep $150 and only refund $150. This was not reasonable or acceptable! Despite my protest, I was told that this decision was final. This experience has left me feeling frustrated and taken advantage of. Their unwillingness to honor their own policy and their poor handling of the situation demonstrate a lack of integrity and respect for their customers. We checked into room 216 at night. The following morning we discovered that a previous guest had puked in the NE corner of the room. There was dried puke stain on the wall and a dried pile of puke on the carpet behind the side table by the sofa. The room service apparently overlooked this during room cleaning and they rented this room in these conditions. Hotel management came up to room and took a picture upon complaint. We asked for a comp. No refund or future credit given even after later complaints. Travelers beware! A stay there can be very disgusting. read more

The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to help us with little things like forks and plates once the breakfast bar was shut down. The breakfast was even decent. There was a construction crew on site updating certain rooms which was nice to see also. The problem was the blood we found on the comforter in one of the 3 rooms we rented for the week. Another issue I have was the fact that the hot tub was not working at all during our stay. The pool was very warm, which was nice, but it was dirty and had a lot of sand on the bottom. The biggest problem however was that the pool door was broken and would not latch. Any small child could have ran through the open door and drowned. Yes, parents should watch their children, but with a 2 and 3 year old with us for our stay it was concerning. We visited this same hotel in July of 2023 and it was perfect at the time, which is why I booked again this year. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back here. read more

Dirty rooms, pool/hot tub area under construction and unusable (though they said it could be used, the pool filter didn't appear to be running and it was very dirty)....I wouldn't have set toe in that water. We had to switch rooms as the 1st one was clearly not cleaned. The second room was not much better. While they offered a refund, to rebook at the other location was hundreds more. No matching the price I paid. Don't stay here. Dirty rooms, pool unusable, cobwebs in the corners, comforters stained and clearly not washed. Just NO. read more

I didn't see previous reviews until after I booked my stay, so when I checked them right before I arrived I was nervous and critical. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. The hotel was clean, pool area sanitary and in good order, staff was attentive and friendly, and room large with fridge and microwave. Breakfast was hot and they kept it coming to 10:00. The hotel is older and I felt the price point reflects this. I docked one star for minor maintenance issues. Room was a bit musty smelling (consistent with older hotels), the closet door was difficult to open ND close, sink missing stopper, and no towel racks or hooks in the bathroom. Overall, I would stay here again because it was cheap and clean with a good breakfast. read more

We packed all of our belongings and went down to the front desk. Unfortunately since its father's day weekend all other hotels were booked or $300. There were 4 of us and they moved us to a handicapped room with one bed. Trying to make the best out of our weekend we took it. When we got into the room we checked EVERYTHING. The next morning we went down to get breakfast and what do you know there was a COCKROACH in the fridge where ALLLLL THE FOOD WAS. We left so fast. DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HOTEL. Also the rooms were VERY nasty. Dirty beds, sinks , bathrooms etc. The curtains also don't close all the way and there was mold on the curtains. We needed extra blankets because well we sized down rooms and the front desk guy gave us a tore up comforter with stains all over it. If you don't mind the nasty go ahead and book. Spoke to management multiple times about the people above us being so loud and stomping around and management did nothing about it. We stopped at this hotel just to get some sleep and we couldn't with the banging above us. The beds will make your body hurt and the stains on the sheets and walls will gross you out. This was the only place available on Fourth of July weekend and now I know why. It has a pool but was not working because of "technical difficulties" the "hot breakfast" was just a cold burrito that you had to microwave. All they had was cold cereal and muffins and yogurt that tasted bad, like they had been purchased at the dollar store. The trash in the breakfast area was overflowing and nobody would empty the trash. The gym had 2 machines, one was broken. The area was off the highway, nothing was walking distance from the hotel. The room was a good size and the beds were comfortable that's about it. Bad management at this hotel. Confirm that the pool is working before you make a reservation because it was not worth $300 the night !! read more

Just remember you get what you pay for.... we had several bad issues with the rooms. But one of the front desk workers was a great help. Diamond Jones stepped up and went above and beyond to help me. I didn't have to want to put a bad review, but the service here is not great. I went to go to the pool and it was okay but a little cold. When i went to the hot tub to warm up IT WASNT EVEN WARM. Plus the bed covers and pillows have stains and the bathrooms aren't fully clean. I have seen people complaining about how trash the service is. I do not recommend people go to this hotel. read more

We've stayed here before, but it has gone down hill! Room was "ok", but worn, TV stations all had lines through them (lousy cable connection), bathroom floor had leak stains under sink, linens were stained & dingy. Breakfast was awefu! The new trays of scrambled eggs & sausages brought out were cold, right from the refrigerator/freezer. Microwave in dining room wouldn't work to warm them up. Juice machine was broke 1st day, fixed?? the next. Ran out of waffle batter both days. Didn't use the pool, but heard it was close. Won't be staying there again. read more

I absolutely loved this hotel! Front staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We arrived a couple of hours before check in and they were able to get us in early to a room on the same floor as all of our friends. I was very happy with the room, found it to be very clean, comfortable, inviting, well organized and liked it quite a bit. Small downfalls of the hotel - -The cleaning service is a bit too eager. They were knocking on our door at 10:30 am and checkout was 11am. I heard the same from our neighbors. Let us have our extra 10 minutes of sleep!!! -Our key wasn't working when we returned for the evening way late at 4am. We had to have someone come up and try from reception and then they had to reset it. This wasn't a fun experience when after a super long night you just want to crawl into bed! -It's far from the action. It's near a Walmart, McDonald's and things of that nature. If I could give zero stars, I would. Checked in for two nights to celebrate a birthday. Day 2/3 returned to our room to find all of our belongings missing. Went to the front desk, apparently there was a "problem with the system." There was no manager on duty to be notified so staff took it upon themselves to remove all of our belongings from the room, and was left at the front desk. When we confronted the front desk, it showed we were still checked in but somehow moved to a different room in the system. Not nice enough of a hotel to make up for this mistake. read more

Never stay here!! I booked a room for 2 nights for $419. I was then mistakenly charged another 5 times for a total of $1400. The manager didn't know how it happened but also didn't know how to fix it. In the end I was refunded my money (days later) and compensated for 1 night, but I would never stay or recommend this place. This type of mistake is never acceptable. read more

So I don't know if I'm being generous with this review or not but you can be the judge of that. Ok where do I begin? My husband and I arrive at the hotel and we check in no problem. We walk around and explore the area and then come back to our room. We get to our room and the toilet is having issues flushing so we tell the lady at the front desk and she offers us a new room since the maintenance dude had left for the day. So anyways we get to the new room and my husband notices that there's French fries in the trash can, ok no biggie I say they probably forgot to take out the trash. Ok but then we flip back the blankets and find this terrifying surprise in it. Yeah In case you can't tell that is poop and it's all over the comforter. So my husband goes and takes a picture and then shows the dude at the front desk and he was like you're gonna have to bring me the comforter before we do anything. (Idk if he just didn't believe us or not lol and he wanted to see for himself) so then my husband brings him down the comforter and he hands my husband the only clean comforter left in the hotel apparently he says. (Ok but how do they not have back ups? What happens if someone else gets poop in the blanket?) Anyways that's pretty much it, but yeah the room is mediocre not super fancy but not terrible ya know? We also used the hot tub and it was super heavily chlorinated, and it made us itchy. The lobby area is nice and the breakfast buffet looks super nice but then again I haven't eaten it yet but I will check it out tomorrow morning before we check out here. If it's not good I'll just reply to this review lol. All in all you get what you pay for. Yeah it's cheap and not the worst place to stay but you may run into a few hick ups while you stay here. read more

As an Aries, I have a fiery temper. I've mellowed out as I've gotten older but sometimes when I get really pissed, that fiery temper makes an appearance like it did on Sunday, December 21st. Traveling home on I-94 during some blizzard-like conditions, I was getting quite sick of a-holes flying past us and then ending up in the ditch ahead, thus bringing traffic to a stand still. We were stuck on a 2-mile stretch for over 2 hours. Was it worth it to drive so fast you sons of bitches?! Yeah, you too, semi drivers! Slow the hell down when you can't see 10 feet in front of you! We were exhausted from driving and I was exhausted from being pissed. We tried stopping at a Ramada to get a room but they were full. The lady at the front desk informed us that Comfort Suites had rooms available. When I called, the friendly voice on the line quickly booked one for us---ahhh an end was in sight to our hellish night. I soon met the friendly voice when we arrived a short while later. The hotel was clean and comfortable and we got it for $80/night. The entire hotel is smoke-free and continental breakfast is included. It was really nothing special but we were damn happy to not be driving on 94. Comfort Suites sure got a lot of business that night with all the exhausted drivers deciding to book rooms. Because of having a full hotel, there was little hot water the next morning, which knocks off another star. read more

We stayed here on our way to northern Michigan. It was a good stopping point and near St. Joseph, where we wanted to walk around and have dinner. It was pricey but we got a discount through AAA. It also was easy to find, right off the interstate. We ended up getting the King Jacuzzi suite since we wanted a king and it was the only one available. Pros: Spacious room Very clean/new looking Lots of outlets including by the bed Comfy bed/pillows Friendly staff Fridge and microwave Lots of counter space in bathroom Jacuzzi suite had a separate sitting room that we could put my son's crib in so he could sleep and we could stay up without disturbing him Good breakfast, including waffles, eggs and sausage Quiet, even though it was heavily booked Cons: Price We'd stay again on our way through town! read more

We had a terrible experience here. We were waiting to be attended to while the front desk clerk was on a smoke break. When she came in, she was talking on the pool home and stayed in the back on the phone for 10 minutes before she came to help us. She was still on the phone while checking us in, talking ab pop it another coworker who was recently fired and how she got a pay raise. Her name was Crystal. After calling to complain to front desk that I was getting bit by SOMETHING the next morning I found out that it was in fact bedbugs. The front desk representative had a attitude with me saying why would I wait til morning to make the complaint even though I had called down the previous night. Hard, uncomfortable bed with tiny pillows that would be appropriate for a toddler; laundry employees talking out in the hallway at 4 a.m. and woke us up; peeling wallpaper in the shower/tub area with MOLD on the wall behind the paper. Outstanding visit! Staff was warm and helpful. Our room was spotless and in great condition. Sheets were crisp and soft, like they had hung on the clothesline at home. Hot breakfast bar was best I've ever experienced, ranging from eggs, sausage, hash browns to yogurt, fresh fruit, danish and muffins, and make-yourself waffles. Food was amazing! I enjoyed the swimming pool (which had extensive open hours) which was actually warm, unlike most hotel pools. Also enjoyed the hot tub! Overall, one of the best places I have ever stayed. not worth the money. phone did not work in the room. Had to call staff to come up and fix the TV that did not work. LARGE stain on the mattress for the pull out bed. pull out bed only had sheets, no fitted sheets and one blanket. Pool ceiling had a portion of the ceiling falling from a whole. Hot Tub's jets were set too high and the hot tub was warm and not hot. Kids were not happy with the pool and refused to swim in it. Hotel had free wi-fi. It never worked while we were there. Lots of maintenance issues that were not addressed (lamp shade was broken, tv stand had a large broken piece, part of the ceiling in the room was broken). Room service came at 9am to change the towels/garbage. Called the front desk to see what time breakfast ended and was told 10am. Got there at 909 and found that breakfast ended at 9am. Another guest told manager they were told the wrong time also and she refused to listen to them. Not worth the $123 I paid per room. read more

The hotel is ok, but not cared for very well. There were lights out and the air conditioner in the room ran so loud that it was hard for my family and I to sleep. Lots of rattling going on. My husband had to eventually take the cover off of it so we could get some rest. The front desk employees had some of the most atrocious customer service skills I have ever experienced, if any skills at all. I witnessed/heard them being very rude to a customer on the phone. I was ignored up at the front desk until the employee was "ready" to wait on me. Despite the fact that I waited politely while she dealt (very poorly) with the customer on the phone, she actually walked to a desk to the back (I could still see her, and she could see me) and continued to sit down on a chair in the back and complain very loudly about the customer on the phone to another employee. After she did that and was ready on her own time to wait on me, she walked up front. Throughout our entire conversation (about places that deliver and restaurants in the area, which she new zilch about) she acted like I was inconveniencing her. I deal with the public everyday and know a lot about good customer service, this woman should NOT be dealing with the public, in any way, EVER!
