This may have been a great company at some point, but it isn't anymore, in my opinion. We purchased a two-year aircon/heating service plan in July 2022 but they never showed up to do any work despite multiple scheduled appointments between November 2022 and January 2023. I've been waiting for the word for when my appointment was and I'm living in a 95 degree home. So the tech Harvey or Harley or whatever arrived to my home at 9 PM. He did not warn me he was coming today/tonight (never called, emailed, or text that I had an appointment today) and showed up when most people are in bed. He says he saw the lights were off and just drove away. He admits he never knocked on the door, never rang the bell... just drove away. When I got out of the shower I called him back and he refused to return. Telling me I might be able to be scheduled for two days from now. WTF? Terrible tech/company. read more

Last year we were serviced by them because of our home warranty. They were unprofessional, unreliable, and shifty. They are only interested in selling a new system, and not diagnosing the problem. Terrible customer service, and the office staff leaves much to be desired! Here we are a little over a year later, and the AC is not working again. We called and were told that we were over our year, and the warranty ran out. After speaking with the staff again, I remembered why we disliked these guys in the first place. We have found a new HVAC company, and have moved on. Their lack of customer service, disrespect of their customer's time, and discourteous attitude should put them out of business, but when a company deals with warranty companies that will never happen. I am done with this company! We did not have a/c earlier this year , so I called in March. They came and replaced a part costing over $756.11. Still no a/c! They reluctantly returned and deduced that the part needed to be replaced and had to order from Mexico. Had to wait 2 weeks in the heat. Tech named Jeff comes over with part but says he was not going to replace part because a/c should turn either on or off, it either works or does not, but not both. So he checked Freon levels and guaranteed that problem was fixed, but that he would all back in 2 days to confirm. No phone call. Called James, the office manager, and he told me that he would have John come over, and John also said that system was fine, but that he would check back in a couple days. Never checked back. So I have spoken to the owner, Harlee, to Chas, one of the techs, to Jeff, another tech and to John and still no contact and my initial installation was on March 20! I think that I have been beyond patient. We still haven't gotten any service or follow-up. Problem was misdiagnosed, $756.00 part was paid for, and installed for no reason and still nothing has been resolved . They have replaced two compressors thru my warranty service along with some other part on a third visit. The first two service calls were fixed immediately. The third call the compressor was on back order for a week. It was hoooot but what I appreciate is the day it came in, the tech was out here until dark installing it. Can't fault them for the wait. Our a/c is out in our newly purchased home with a home warranty and our home warranty company told me to call them. I called 4 times today, twice I was put on hold for over 10 minutes and then when the woman asked me to hold again and I explained that I had been holding she said 'I'm too busy' and hung up on me. I called back and she hung up on me again!! I called the home warranty company and they were appalled and gave me someone else. My neighbor also mentioned to me today when I spoke with her that she had a really bad customer service experience with them. I am seeing the pattern.... read more

I finally gave up on this company this year after having them servicing our 3 HVAC units for about 4 years. They also installed a higher end Carrier unit about 4 years ago; we have had issues with it since they installed it and after several attempts and promises to fix it, it was never fixed. Since 2017, scheduling with them became a nightmare and calls to the company were often met with the attitude that we were at fault, despite having emails confirming appointment times. It's disappointing to see them highly recommended as a authorized Carrier dealer on the Carrier site (went there looking for someone knowledgeable to figure out what is wrong with our unit). 1: it took them 3 days to install a thermostat. 1-a: the only reason they actually got the thermostat is due to me contacting them to complain that it had been 2 days since I had heard from them. 1-b: when they finally arrived to do the thermostat installation, it was on the third day after the initial diagnosis. This only occurred after we contacted the warranty company and they told us that it was an excessive amount of time. The warranty company proceeded to call Comfort Wizards and within the next 10 minutes were told that a supervisor was on the way. 1-c: they will NOT GIVE YOU A WINDOW OF ARRIVAL. This was stated to both me and my wife as a company policy. We only wanted a vague window of time ( morning, afternoon or night). They only tell you that someone will be there in 45 minutes. D: the "supervisor" arrived and instantly told me that the thermostat the warranty company provided was not "in code with North Carolina" and proceeded to attempt to sell me another thermostat. I refused and he proceeded with the installation. E: during the installation, the thermostat was not determined to be the sole issue and the supervisor went into the attic. While there, he ran into an issue that required a call to a tech support line. He then told me at 5:45 the Lennox tech support line was closed until Monday and he would try to call them Monday. He then stated that" DON'T LET ANYONE ELSE WORK ON THE SYSTEM EXCEPT FOR ME" ((( side note-- at this point we contacted our warranty company and requested a new contractor. We were given a new contractor ))) F: during the subsequent visit by the second contractor, it was determined that the supervisor left the system in the attic a complete mess and the supervisor's installation of the thermostat was unsuitable. The wires were touching inside the thermostat unit. ((( side note - the thermostat is crap, but I digress ))) G: after 7 days, the office at Comfort Wizards called us to arrange for the supervisor to return and finish his work. SEVEN DAMNED DAYS LET ME REPEAT..... THEY WAITED 7 DAYS BEFORE THEY CONTACTED US AGAIN. IN JANUARY. WITHOUT HEAT. I can't say a good thing about this company. Not one single thing. They will never see business from me or hopefully anyone I know....EVER. read more

We started using this company for our HVAC needs in 2007 when we bought our first home. The home warranty company that we had for the first year listed them as a preferred vendor. We didn't have any experience with them prior to that. Our warranty expired after 12 months but we stuck with Comfort Wizards because of their exception service and integrity. It is so hard to find a service company that doesn't tell you that replacement is necessary every time there is a problem. Our system is original to the home (18 years). We have it serviced by Comfort Wizards twice a year for maintenance and IF we have any problems, they are on top of it. read more

I've been working with Harlie for the last year or so, at the recommendation of a realtor friend. Harlie is great at his job, and very reliable. He told me exactly what was wrong with my unit and explained all of the pricing well enough that it actually made sense (unlike the previous company I used, whose technicians always recommended expensive parts but couldn't explain exactly why I needed them). I am so disappointed withthis company. Used it two years ago through my warranty company. I then got a maintenance contract. When I called for a maintenance check for my air conditioners, they said I didn't have an account. After a week of emails, they "found" it. I made an appointment they confirmed it via email. When the day and time came, no one showed up and no phone call from the company. I called them and had to leave a message. I was referred to Comfort Wizards by my home warranty company. My Carrier gas furnace would not light, leaving the house quite cold. When I called, Harlie (company owner) answered promptly. He advised me that although he could not come out the same day (I called in the early evening), that someone would be out the following day. Fast forward to the following day. I called to confirm someone was coming out before our agreed-upon cut-off time. Harlie advised that he would arrive within the hour. True to his word, Harlie arrived on-time, and got to work as soon as he was invited inside! After lowering the thermostats, he climbed into the attic to check the furnace for error codes. After determining that there were no error codes, he proceeded to investigate the multi-zone controller panel. Upon inspection, he noted that a number of wires that should have been connected to the controller panel from the thermostats were not, and that the necessary wiring from the controller panel to the furnace was not connected either. (On a side note: contractors for Time Warner Cable had come to install Intelligent Home 2.5 weeks earlier (during which they expressed frustrations with the wiring of the thermostats), immediately after which, the AC unit blew a capacitor. (Which necessitated our first home warranty claim and $50 deductible payment). It stands to reason that in the midst of the TWC IH installation, the wiring was manipulated into a dysfunctional state (which necessitated our SECOND home warranty claim and deductible). Suffice it to say, a call has been made to TWC. But I digress. As soon as these issues were remedied, the furnace immediately fired up. After Harlie shared some advice on things to be on the lookout for regarding the furnace and controller panel, we chatted briefly and then parted ways. My overall experience with Comfort Wizards was a pleasant and positive one. The only reasons I give a 4-star rating are due to the fact that this is the first interaction I've had with the company, and that there appears to be no emergency service available for home warranty customers. However, based upon the quality of service, timelines (during business hours), speed of diagnosis, execution of corrective actions, as well as my interactions with Harlie, I would feel comfortable hiring them again to address any heating and cooling issues I may have in the future. read more

If I could give a zero star rating, I would! This company is run by a man who is dishonest and unprofessional. I have a home warranty policy and when my AC went out, they contacted Comfort Wizards for the repairs. The tech came out and diagnosed the problem as a bad coil. The next day the owner of Comfort Wizards called me to say that it was likely I would have more than $2000 in charges beyond what the insurance company pays for the repair. He stated he had to do this to make up what he doesn't make by dealing with them. I promptly called the insurance company and reported that. A "load test" was required by Comfort Wizards to get the repairs identified, at a cost of $250 to me. The insurance company would not move forward with the work until I paid the fee. Next he submitted a quote for repairs in the amount of $4200, stating that he could not find the original equipment coil and regulations prevented him from using anything else. He stated that an entire new system was needed, along with enlarged and additional duct work. Before moving ahead with the work, and bearing the cost of $3600 for a completely new system with only a bad coil, I sought a second opinion. Choosing a local, reputable company I was able to get the coil replaced at a cost of $1700 and about half of it paid by the warranty company. Had I not pursued it on my own, Comfort Wizards would have lined their pockets with nearly $4K ouf of my pocket. This company has been reported to the Better Business Bureau. Additionally I will see him in small claims court unless he agrees to refund 100% of the $250 load test fee that I paid. I will not EVER do business with these folks again. I RECOMMEND YOU DON'T EITHER. We have a home warranty purchased when we bought our home and these are the folks they contacted. BIG MISTAKE. Heating system was on the fritz. Granted it was early Christmas week, but they said they could and would provide someone on Xmas Eve. Great so far. Excellent. Now here's where it starts to suck. Although I told them specifically to call my wife's telephone number, because I was having outpatient surgery that morning, their tech left a message on my phone (which i got late after surgery) and he left the following message, roughly "You are my only customer in Apex and I don't really want to drive all the way out there anyways because it's raining hard and I'm not going to be able to do anything anyways. I'll be there on Friday instead, OK?" Translation from message: "You are not an important customer to me and I don't care if you don't have heat on Xmas and just had surgery, I'm not coming over because it's raining hard and I don't feel like it because it's Xmas Eve. So Screw you." What an opportunity wasted to provide great customer service. I guess he wasn't the owner, hugh? If he was, the man is an absolute idiot. Here is another hint. if the tech can't even follow simple instructions on which phone number to call, they are probably not very swift and not someone to trust with your house. Not to mention leaving a message, essentially blowing you off, after telling you that they would provide someone, ESPECIALLY ON XMAS EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE NO HEAT. If I owned Comfort Wizards and had any of my employees ever left a message blowing off one of my customers like that, leaving the message he did, that gentleman would not be working for me...instantly. I actually wonder if that jerk decided to call the number he knew he was not supposed to call, just so he did not have to talk to anyone. In any case we went without heat for several days, but gladly gave our business to the other folks our Warranty Company called. They have been outstanding. They are called Mechanical HVAC. Their serviceman was professional, courteous and took the time to explain things. Had I not had the service contract, it would have cost me over $500 to get serviced and fixed. My part was $75. Don't waste your time with the jokers at Comfort Wizards. read more

Harlan Noble, the owner, conducts fraudulent business practices. He sent someone out to perform a load calculation. The technician called me and advised me he was at my house when I was 15 minutes away. When I got there, he asked if he could take photos of the outside of my house and asked which direction my front door faced. After about five minutes, he said he was done and left. They charged me $250 for a load calculation that did not even have the front door direction correct on it. The technician never went into the crawl space or inside my house. After challenging this, he emailed agreeing to a refund on January 22. As of today and several other emails promising refund, I still have not received anything and now he fails to respond to emails. I now have a dispute with the bank. Mr. Noble has a legal history of fraudulent insurance arrests. Steer clear of this company and go elsewhere. read more

They decided not to listen and charged us $50 for a "temporary fix" that we didn't want in the first place - not cool. They refused to refund all of it and were very rude when we asked for a refund. They have the contract with my home warranty company. We submitted a request for service (HVAC drip pan leaking... from the attic...) at 5:30 Friday. Got a voice mail Saturday morning saying the earliest appointment would be Wednesday, and to call back, and that the call would go to the emergency tech on call for the weekend. I called back Saturday afternoon and left a message on whoever's voicemail it went to. I got no call on Monday, called on Tuesday and was told that the office gal didn't get told I'd called, and she "couldn't verify that I'd called" (????) and that the next available appointment was Friday. And she couldn't tell me when they'd be there Friday, but they'd call 45 minutes in advance. So, now it's Friday, a week after the issue began... and I truly hope that 1) the service tech actually calls and shows up and 2) the service tech is more competent than the gal in charge of scheduling. read more

Today, I called Comfort Wizards to follow up on an appointment that was scheduled. This appointment was made last week 8/4/15 with the "scheduling representative" for 8/10. When I called I got Molly who was friendly and nice, but when I gave her my info some how the phone line was disconnected. I waited a few minutes expecting a phone call in return and when I realized that wasn't happening I called back. I got another lady not sure of her name, but Molly later stated after a 3rd call she was the office manager. The "other lady" to the surprise told me I didn't have an appointment scheduled and she recommended scheduling another appointment for Thursday and she will call the warranty company to see what happened. I admit I was upset to hear that and I used 2 curse words to express my frustration with my disappointment on how this could happen. I didn't direct any anger or disrespect towards this "other lady". So, I calmed down and tried to approach the situation differently. She didn't want to hear it and the only suggestion was to schedule the appointment for Thursday. I stated you guys dropped the ball and you should have a better option resolving the error. She no longer wanted to speak to me and stated I was being disrespectful towards her. I tried to explain to her that I had a right to be upset based on the error and I was being disrespectful towards her just towards the situation. She said she was going to call the warranty company to find out what happened. As I stated, this appointment was scheduled 8/4 by Comfort Wizard because the warranty company had already informed me to contact them directly which I did. And Comfort Wizards scheduling representative confirmed the appointment then told me she could give me a scheduled time window of service and I found that odd. She said they do a 45 minute call prior to availability. I told her I was not familiar with that type of practice and she said they don't give time windows because customers cancel. Now, that I have had this experience with them and their actions I get a full picture of how they do business. Considering the point of view from a customer who have been without air for about 1 full week after the appointment was set by their representative and calls to confirm based on their business practice of not giving a time window. The office manager, other lady, only suggestion was to call the warranty company and schedule me for Thursday, Molly told me she would have to check with the scheduling representative. At this point, as a customer all I expect is a resolution that makes sense especially when the company was wrong and dropped the ball. I expect service now or you who have a better chance to a better resolve the problem if you could have done it within 24hrs. This type of poor business practice, poor customer service and no resolution is not acceptable. This is below 1 star service. read more

I've been living in homes with HVAC systems for many years, up north. The one we have now, in our new home in Chapel Hill, was giving us major problems during the hottest week of the year. What I thought was the problem, wasn't the primary cause. I was referred to Harlie and Comfort Wizards by my real estate agent (whom I trust), after calling around to several service providers. It was Harlie who not only responded to me on a Saturday night, but came out on a Sunday. A Sunday people. With no service contract in place. I'm not completely ignorant on HVAC systems, but not far from it. Harlie was not only patient but he was thoughtful as he helped me understand what was wrong with my HVAC, provided me with my options, and a plan, starting with the simplest and least expensive options first. He and his colleague came back out 2 days later to do the same. I'm now working with a much improved HVAC system and a much better understanding of my new home's HVAC. I am definitely going under contract with these guys, because I know the value in having a reputable and professional firm under contract. Longer term I'm looking forward to working with Harlie on an improved HVAC system, from this millennium, and based on what I'm told he's just the man. He's very passionate about what he does, and has a great temperament for dealing with edgy customers on hot summer days. And he's not at all pushy. Lastly, because he took the time to explain so much to me (and he can tell I'm very curious), I trust him and don't get the feeling I'm annoying him nor that he's taking advantage of me, like so many hacks do. And there are a lot of hacks out there. I cannot recommend Comfort Wizards enough. read more

After reading these YELP reviews and experiencing many of these same complaints, I will no longer be using Comfort Wizards. Oh sure, they'll sell you a new A/C...mine cost $6m....they aren't quite as interested in coming back now that there are occasional issues. The comments about their phone rep...all true. Comfort Wizards, you are in a SERVICE BUSINESS. As a SERVICE BUSINESS you need to be obligated to service your customers in a manner that is not a burden on them as opposed to a burden on yourselves, as seems to be the perception of your company by myself and many reviewers. Like you, I too am a small business owner and understand it's not always easy dealing with the public, but YOU (we) chose to do so and are then therefore obligated to provide the best service experience possible to EVERY CUSTOMER ALL THE TIME. No return phone calls, no flexibility with appointment scheduling, rude phone reps? You need to go back to Service 101. People don't remember good reviews, but they certainly remember those which are bad and will give pause when considering doing business with you. Rant over. I used Comfort Wizard and the owner, Harley, worked on our unit. Very good guy. I started a bi-annual service plan (summer and winter maintenance) with them up until I had a bad experience. They sent a new technician to the house who said he was in training and did not have any experience or certification. He explained he had been in the restaurant business and this was a new job. After servicing our unit he said our coolant was very low and we must have a leak. He commented how hot it was inside the house and said someone else would have to come out and do the inspection and repair. I advised him that we had absolutely no problems with our unit prior to his arrival and it was hot inside in the house because the unit had been off for 20 minutes. The unit is 9 years old and well maintained. He said he would top off the coolant and see how that worked. Of course the house cooled off after five minutes when turned back on. I called the office twice to speak with Harley and left messages for him to please call me. On my third attempt, weeks later, they said I could not speak to Harley because he was always very busy. The lead technician supervisor then called me back. I forget his name. He came to the house to talk to me and even brought the employee with him. Why would he do that? We discussed the matter and he tried to convince me that sometimes the AC units just break down. He pointed out a humming bird in our feeder and stated that AC units, like the hummingbird, were fine and the next moment they weren't. At that point I had to hit myself in the head to see if I was awake. Despite trying to reason the circumstances with him, that the unit had been performing very well both prior to and weeks after the new technician's visit, and that the unit had simply been turned off and the house became hot, I finally had to ask him to leave. We went the rest of the summer and winter with no issues. Now I'm looking for a new company. Just thought I would pass this along after seeing Comfort Wizards' ad. read more

This company is a service partner with my home warranty. Worst customer service. When I first called to schedule a service call, I was told that a technician will come out on Monday and he'll call 45 minutes before he arrives, with NO timeframe. So I didn't even know if he'd come in the morning or afternoon or what. On Monday, at 12pm I called to confirm the appointment, I was told the technician was at the current service call and I'd be next. I called again at 2pm and was told the same thing and that "he'd be on his way soon." At 4:30pm I called again and was told "Oh I'm sorry his current service call is taking all day so I don't think I'll be able to get someone out there for you today." They had me waiting all day and didn't bother to call and let me know that the technician won't be able to come. To me, that is unprofessional and unacceptable. I'll make sure to spread the word about this company. read more

The AC in my house broke, they came to check it out and said they will order the part (a compressor) and call us when it arrived to schedule a repair time. It has now been an entire month and we are still waiting on this part to arrive. Not just any month either, August. Our house sits between 95° at night, to 105° during the day. We quite literally had to evacuate the house and beg people to take us in. We call the company every day, and every day they say the same thing... We ordered the part, it's arriving by train, we have no way to tack it, we will call when it arrives. This same answer for a month. This should have been an emergency repair in the middle of a NC summer. I would hate to find out how long it takes them to fix a non-emergency. Anyway, would love to not be homeless anymore, so any time Comfort Wizards. read more

Once they arrived, the tech was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the HVAC. I came to know Comfort Wizards & Harley through our home warranty service for our HVAC unit. This unit old was old and only contractor grade so it had to be repaired at least 1-2 times per year as something different was always breaking. Their service on the 15+ year old HVAC unit was so outstanding I used them for our yearly maintenance as well. Well over the course of almost 7 years Comfort Wizards repaired our HVAC through the Home Warranty company. Unfortunately, the Home Warranty company and Comfort Wizards parted ways but I still used Comfort Wizards for our yearly maintenance. Then finally after an additional 3 years, 10 total for us in the house and approximately 25 for the HVAC unit, it was time to replace the unit. I asked several companies for quotes including Comfort Wizards. A few of those companies wanted to do a Load Calculation at a $150-$250 cost. Comfort Wizards did not charge me for the Load Calculation and they determined the original unit's tonnage was slightly undersized. I got the quote for the new unit and it was over my budget. I had a conversation with Harley to explain my dilemma and we came to mutual agreement on the price and a payment schedule. When I asked why he did this for me, his response was simply... Well Rich your Family! Comfort Wizards will always be the company we call to fix all our HVAC issues. Hands down the best I highly recommend them! read more

I'm using them because they are the contractor for my warranty company. They came on site because my AC broke down a few days ago and replaced a capacitor and "apparently" the hard start kit. A couple days after they came, my usual HVAC company came to clean it and when they did their routine inspection they told me that I needed a hard start kit because the compressor was under heavy load. Also, the unit was making a horrible noise. So I called back my warranty company and they opened a re-work request with them. A few days went by and nobody called me to reschedule. So I called them this past Friday before getting home and actually finding that the unit wasn't working and they said they will send someone on Monday. I called the warranty company after finding that the AC wasn't working and they raised my request to urgent. We spent the entire weekend without AC with 3 kids(one of them a 1-year-old baby). Yesterday the receptionist(who is very rude and unprofessional) called me to tell me that they needed to re-schedule. I complained and she said that the owner will come to deal with it. I called back a few hours later to get an ETA and she told me that she didn't have one and to call the warranty company and complain if I wanted to. Someone finally came onsite yesterday, who was also very rude and unprofessional and told my wife that the compressor needed to be replaced(surprise! It looks like the cause did by not doing the right thing in the first call). When she asked for an ETA he told her that it wasn't like getting something from Walmart that we needed to wait. He even left the switch in the thermostat in the ON position and took off without even saying good bye. read more
