The Summer Delight galette is so amazing, with its butter crust and sweet berries. I drive down to San Rafael From Santa Rosa to get one of these babies during the summer. The strawberry rhubarb galette is my back up plan when the summer delight is out. There are also a number of tasty noms that are worth sampling like the lemon bars, bread pudding, cookies and brownies. I've only hit up this stand during farmers so I am slightly unaware of there is an actual storefront to purchase on a daily basis. I've been going to Comforts for many years and have found the food selection very good and tasty. My City friends would use me as an excuse to visit just so that they could go to Comforts for Chinese Chicken Salad to take back home for dinner. However, of late, the food preparation and flavor has been consistently disappointing. However, I am writing this review because of a customer service incident I recently experienced. Several days ago I had brunch; egg white omelet with vegetable filling. I took a bite and had a mouthful of something very chewy and gritty - it tasted like a mouthful of dirt! Why?, because it was! I went to the restroom to spit out the food and wash out my mouth - clearly a mouthful of gritty dirt. I returned to my table to take a look inside the omelet and there it was - looked like a woody root covered in dirt and it had spilled out onto the plate. I QUIETLY took the plate to my waiter to show him what was in my omelet. He was very apologetic and said he would show the chef. 10 minutes later, and no food, my waiter returned and said the owner just arrived and she'd be right out to talk to me. The owner came over to my table and said she checked the food supply and my plate, and that I was probably not used to the taste and texture of the underside of a mushroom! She said that's what I tasted, and there was no dirt in my food. Seriously, I don't know what a mushroom tastes like? I don't know when I have something in my mouth I can't chew? I don't know when I have a clump of dirt in my mouth? I don't know I'm seeing a lot of dirt in the sink after I've rinsed out my mouth? The owner was unapologetic and acted as if I was an idiotic. I asked them to bring the check that I did not want to reorder another omelet. The waiter did and I was charged for my juice! Honestly, I was speechless. I paid the bill and sadly after many years of take-out, dining, personal and business catering, I will no longer be going to Comforts. BTW, the other person I was with sent back her runny eggs (which she asked to not be so) and they came back 5 minutes later the same and cold! read more

Have you ever been in the wrong at a restaurant? Those with dogs may relate to what I'm about to say. We had our dogs at the outdoor table tied to the fence. They could crawl through the fence so it was hard to keep them on their side. We weren't too worried about it as there was another dog further down also sitting inside. The manager, VINNIE, a bald headed frazzled man came out and had a word with us about letting the dogs in. This is very UNDERSTATED. He was so rude and obnoxious that my husband and I were completely taken aback. I haven't been spoken to like that since becoming an adult. I felt like I'd been caught using finger paint on Mom's kitchen walls. His anger and rudeness were absolutely UNCALLED for in the situation. I know we were wrong to have the dogs under our seats. When we pointed out the other dog outside, he said he was going to speak with those owners next. He never did. We were so incensed that we decided to pay for our coffee and forget breakfast. I went in to let him know that I didn't appreciate either his tone or his message and threatened to not come back. His response??? "GOOD, DON'T COME BACK!" For someone who works in the customer service industry to not only be rude, but to speak like that to me in a room full of people watching was not only humiliating but also unprofessional in the utmost. I will honor his wish and my own by never setting foot in that place again. Oh, and the other dog sitting outside? Yeah, he was still there when we left. read more

This place has incredible food. I like the takeout but prefer the cafe as nothing like things being cooked to your order. I think the chefs take their work very seriously as I have never had a bad meal here or one that seems as if it is only "reheated". The food sometimes takes a long time, but hey they are often very busy. Sometimes the service leaves a bit to be desired.The bald guy can be very rude and short when asked a question that he does not like. The hostess who is usually there seems to run the show while all the others just take the orders. I think there is some reason they are always so busy. It must be consistently pretty good or people wouldn't come back. I would recommend it but the weekends sometimes there is a pretty long wait. read more

I went into Comforts today for the first time in a long time. I had a party of seven so was told we may have to wait around 20 minutes. Than the hostess graciously offered to seat us in the take out area across the way so we would not have to wait. We were promptly seated and immediately greeted by a really nice waitress who delivered yummy yummy food with very attentive and good service. I thought maybe we would get forgotten over there but she and the several busboys were great. I tried the lamb stew and have to say it was out of this world.My friends all loved their dishes as well. My compliments to the chef and the staff. Good stuff. My friends and I will be back more often. read more

I have been getting take-out from Comforts for almost 18 years and it is as delicious now as it was then. I do not think there is anything I have tried there I haven't at least liked, if not downright LOVED. If you have friends who all like different kinds of food, they will each find something they like at Comforts. The food spans the globe, they have vegetarian and vegan options and also several dishes made with our health in mind. The desserts are also heavenly. If I could afford it, I would eat here everyday and be an extraordinarily happy woman (albeit a few pounds heavier, but all the happier for it). read more

Terrible customer service. The minute they are closed, if you are at the door to inquire about anything, they ignore you. I understand the boundary of not providing service after closing, but I was there for a pickup order I was unfortunately a few minutes late to get. I was apologetic and just wanted a refund if it was too late to get my food. Appallingly rude for the mistake I made. I've worked in customer service for over a decade as well as grew up in the area. The disgruntled staff need some training on customer service skills. read more

I love the food at comforts and eat there regularly. Sometimes I consider saying something to the owner about the staff behind the counter. They are sooooo sloooooow to take your order, to ring you up, to get you out the door. It can be really frustrating expecially when 6 of them are there doing what - I cannot tell - and ignoring the customers waiting to be helped. There needs to be better management/organization for the counter staff. Otherwise, the food is excellent and worth it. read more

Miss the Chinese Chicken Salad now that I don't live in Marin anymore! Even buying their bottled dressing and making a salad at home is a very weak stab at what you get at Comforts. It is The place for Marin moms to take the toddlers, a huge lunch favorite of just about every demographic in Marin and in the late afternoon, the parade of BMW's to get takeout is awesome. I totally agree with susanne c. The owners are great, the food is good; the service is generally terrible in the deli. I actually had a woman stop serving me in the middle of my order and begin to flirt with and serve a man who came in after me. Needless to say, I haven't been back... I have had other bad service over the years and have stayed away for a while, but this was the final insult. read more

I just had lunch at comforts. I had salmon and sesame brocolini. my grandson had the fish sticks and potato salad. Everything was really good. We were on the deli side but next time will try the dining room side that offers table service. The prices were pretty much the norm and you'd expect from a place like this. read more

All the burger folks had a side salad, which disappointed me as I usually collect a French fry tax from others. But not this time! Ugh - the fries here are outstanding! But so are the salads, soooo... My Grilled MAC, which I usually get on sourdough, was STACKED with grilled mushrooms! I love mushrooms, so this was heaven for me. I liked the rye as a change as well, so either that or sourdough moving forward. All the food was great, as the photos will show, and the serving size is still decent for the price. The salads are indeed good, with a nice variety of vegetables with the lettuce. Speaking of lettuce, the two burgers had a LOT of lettuce, and the burger folks took it off their burgers and added it to their salads. The egg salad sandwich, on lightly toasted bread, was indeed more of an "egg WITH salad" sandwich, having lots of lettuce and tomato, and not enough egg salad (for me), but the guy with that sandwich did not complain and said it was very tasty. Because there was also a birthday among us a few days before, we HAD to celebrate with dessert and chose the apple and mixed-berry pies. They also had blueberry, but I have had these two before and really like them. They did not have ice cream, though (), but a decent whipped cream helped. The apple pie was hot, and although a bit charred along the crust edge (even I do that at home), I just broke it off, and no loss really. The pies were very good. I'd like to point out that there is a pleasant, clean restroom, which is a testament to customer service and integrity. Something that I always appreciate.. This is a roadside diner feel located near the Good Earth grocery store, which is also deserving of a visit when you're in the area. (Check out the "proof lab" facility, or shall I say "campus" across the street -a very interesting spot. Google it and check it out online.) The Shoreline Cafe has a very competent, efficient, and friendly staff that knows what they're doing. There are lovely outdoor seating tables with nice umbrellas, as well as ample seating indoors in a comfortable atmosphere. Now that my belly is full until my lunch hour later today, I can contemplate clever epicurean/trendy dishes. How about some Tartine Butyrum ? OK, now I got you scrambling for a definition....
