Nothing wrong not bad but I do think the donuts are overpriced... if your a fan of the traditional fluffy donuts they're good but I would rather go to a normal donut shop unless I was vegan or wheat free to come here for those. Service was good too nothing to complain about there and nice seating area inside too. I was bummed because I got the wheat free fritter and it wasn't as like sour fruity as I wanted it to be just had a dull flavor to say the least. read more

First time here for a Too Good to Go surprise bag as a pairing with Pond Farm beers down the street (had the official collabs at Pond Farm in the past so was excited to go to Johnny's to see all of the yummy options). The bag had 4 treats, our favorites being the custard filled cinnamon sugar cronut & the lemon poppyseed glazed donut. They paired perfectly with our imperial stout and wild sour ales. I can't believe I haven't rated Johnny Doughnuts! I love the variety of flavors they offer and the different/seasonal options. Definitely a problem for me living so close, but also a treat because I get to try everything! The staff is always so friendly and I absolutely love the ambiance in the restaurant! This is a staple for doughnuts in Marin! The sprinkly guy is a classic that has been a fan favorite for over a decade, and the apple fritter comes in a close second. These doughnuts are HUGE and filling and can easily be split by two people. The staff are always kind, and the benches outside to nibble come in handy. read more

I was excited to try these doughnuts due to the great reviews, but I was disappointed. I got a vanilla stuffed cream with chocolate and an old fashioned vanilla. The vanilla stuffed cream itself did not have flavor it did not taste like vanilla. The old fashioned was dry and had a wheat like flavor. I did get a Chai latte and that was really good but they don't call you to let you know your drink is ready so you have to be on the look out otherwise your drink will sit there and get cold. The staff and seating area are nice! read more

I was in the area and wanted something sweet. After I was done running errands i stopped by this Donut establishment for a quick treat. My lil guy was in the mood for a Jelly donut and i was looking for an old fashion/ glazed. I ordered a Strawberry Rhubarb Bismark and a few donuts and a blueberry fritter. The staff was friendly and we were out quickly because there was no wait. Donuts were really good and it was quite large for a single session. BOO Imagine my excitement when friends told me JD had a gluten free donut! So I made the special trip down. Hadn't had a decent donut in 20 years. The shop looked amazing. So did all the donuts. The excitement was building. THEN--THE LET DOWN. Not only did the 'wheat free thing' look like the 'unwanted stepchild in dirty clothes who hadn't bathed or combed their hair in a week' compared to everything else-- zero shape zero presentation, thrown into the oil with dare I say vengeance??--IT'S NOT GF. Cute spot on a quieter stretch of town. These are fancy versions of classic donuts. Nothing too weird here though a lot of higher end ingredients and combinations are available. The donuts are big and substantial, as they should be! I bought an assortment of cake and raised donuts. I actually preferred the raised. The yeasty taste of the buttery dough was really special. The cakes were quite good too and lasted longer in the fridge for decadent treats throughout the week! Ask for advice and suggestions and you won't be led astray. The butter cake was my absolute favorite -- the sweet slightly salty glaze soaked into the cake and was just perfect. The glazes are subtle, so much so that I couldn't detect the flavors in some. This combined with my lost short-term memory made eating these an adventure. read more

Huge fan of Johnny Doughnuts! Every time I'm in Marin county, I'm coming by! This location has indoor seats and is more of a donut shop vibe. It's not as presentable or modern looking like the Larkspur location but it'll definitely do. I stopped in for a classic glaze and coffee flavored donut which were both fantastic. Because I came a little late around 9am, the donuts were a bit dry BUT still yummy and excellent. I can't wait to come back again! read more

I will say good doughnuts are hard to come by and Johnny doughnuts hit the nail on the head. They have clean oil so the doughnuts don't taste old, they aren't too sweet. We stopped in here a few weeks ago while waiting for a local yarn shop down the street to open and we are so glad we did. There is one in SF closer to us but this was indeed a treat. Each flavor was distinct and perfect. You can tell a lot of thought was put into the flavors and they all looked pretty tasty. Can't wait to come back and try other flavors. The service was great, the ambiance welcoming and made you want to sit down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee and a doughnut but we were in a grab and go kinda of day. read more

My first time trying Johnny doughnuts. We stopped here in San Rafael on our way up to point Reyes. I loved the strawberry frosting on here. It tasted so perfect and sweet. Might be a hot take but I didn't like how thick the doughnut was. I would prefer it was a bit thinner. I had half left over and didn't get around to eating it until 2 days later which by then it was pretty hard. read more

After our breakfast at The Farm House Local in Larkspur, we came to Johnny's Donuts for coffee and donuts. We got here about 10 AM and the selection today was amazing. I got every donut that I wanted which included a blueberry glazed raised donut, chocolate caramel old fashioned donut and a seasonal strawberry rhubarb donut with a crumble and glaze. The chocolate caramel donut has a nice cinnamon dusting underneath the chocolate and yummy caramel and this is definitely the best old fashioned donut I have ever had. It's my second time having this old fashioned donut. It has layers of strong flavor, very sweet and an amazing crunchy crust. The seasonal Bismark today was extraordinary and the strawberry and rhubarb was thick and fruity. It tasted like a puree and not too sweet but just fruity. The crumble added lots of interest and texture and was not overly sweet even with the glaze that held it together. It won by a small margin and was our favorite donut beating out the old fashioned chocolate caramel and the blueberry glazed donut. read more

Went for a stroll and had this on my hit list for a while. I ordered the sweet potato glazed and the chocolate cronut. As I entered the display was on the left side where I was promptly greeted and made my choice from the display. They walked my order to the counter where I also got a cappuccino. The staff were welcoming and they had seating indoor and outdoor options. It's a good spot for socializing and the streets were quiet around the time I went at 10am. Very good and yummy doughnuts Customer service is like a still figuring that out . Was there more than 5 times and not even one smile from Any of the workers here . It feels a little like order Pay and leave . One good thing that I really liked was that whole families gather here and share this nice moment while eating a doughnut. Couple of times also tables were dirty and so I had to clean them so I could sit , while worker saw me and didn't even say anything not even try to clean the mess that it was on it before I arrived . always my go to donut place in san rafael! i've come here countless of times and am never super disappointed until today :( i got the vegan donuts because i love the sweet potato dough! i got the chocolate and the coffee and the dough is not the same as it used to be. it's drier, denser, and not as chewy as it has been in the past before. highly disappointed and they definitely either changed the recipe or over cooked them sadly luckily the donut holes are still super yummy so that did not disappoint it's also under construction, it looked like, so half of the seating is gone but they still have some seating available read more

Nice San Rafael location to go with larkspur. Delicious vegan donuts made with potato (I swear they're healthy for me!:) They don't vary the vegan flavors too much says my wife. Chocolate, glazed and coffee for this visit. They also are known to do ube and a few others but the larger variety of stuff is not plant based. Recommend them nonetheless. Not a bad work place either if you can sit a little distant from loud music near the donut display case (some nice window seats and large communal tables). Enjoy! read more

These doughnuts were a great treat in the morning - thick, cakey, and very filling. If you are looking for a doughnut that doesn't disappoint (I'm looking at you, major donut chain), look no further than Johnny Doughnuts. They have a sweet potato doughnut, which I was very excited about because I love sweet potatoes. I was expecting it to be orange and potato-y, but be advised that the sweet potato is added to the recipe to make classic flavored doughnut vegan - NOT a distinct sweet potato flavor. It was very impressive that it was vegan though because it tasted exactly the same as a normal one. These are a very heavy treat and great for a once in a while occasion! read more

Johnny, I was dying for some doughnuts! And coffee. We visited on Labor Day and boy (and girl) there were a lot of young kiddos in there. Once you walk in, you'll feel like you are in a boujee doughnut shop in SF. It has that feel. Lots of tables inside to sit and eat. Anyway, the doughnuts! Choices: First off, they cost a pretty penny compared to your mom and pop shop. ($3-4 compared to $1-2). Regular doughnuts with tons of glazes, fritters, old fashioned, bars, rolls. The ones shown on Yelp seem to have more options than we saw that day. Although many of the options here were pretty unique. Still warm. It is fun because you can see them making and dipping the doughnuts in the back. The doughnuts were light and fluffy. The glaze tasted super fresh too. And strangely enough, my stomach didn't feel terribly heavy or greasy after eating these doughnuts. Plus coffee! Equator coffee. I got a yummy cold brew. Oat milk - yep. Almond milk - yep. This visit happened at 11:15 AM on a Sunday morning, there were about 4 people inside but really not busy at all. INSIDE/SEATING (5/5): one big plus is that there is plenty of seating options and the space itself is very large. There's also a parklet outside with additional tables and benches. STRAWBERRY GLAZED RAISED DONUT (2/5): it was clear that this donut had been sitting out for hours. The dough was so dense and chewy, by the time I finished it I felt like I did a jaw work out. For $3.75, the quality at this point felt no different than a $1.50 donut given that it was sitting out for so long. I'm sure if it was fresher and warm, this would be a really solid donut. If I had come after 1 PM closer to when they close, I would understand the chewiness and would not expect a fresh donut, but given this was the weekend and still prime donut and coffee hour, this was extremely disappointing. OVERALL - check first to see which donuts are fresh and make your choices based off that information. read more

When it came to the wedding they exceeded our expectations. The food was incredible and their servers were so professional and treated every one of our guests like they were special. Their effort and the quality of their work made our wedding such a special event. We consider ourselves lucky that they were available to cater our wedding and are 1000% happy with our decision to choose them.

So imagine our surprise when we arrived at our tasting a couple of months before the wedding and every dish blew us away with the quality of the ingredients and craft of preparation. Meredith and the Sage team are so thoughtful about producing a menu that takes advantage of the best in-season produce and other high-quality ingredients, and even when cooking for over 180 people everything is prepared to perfection. We really feel like we struck gold working with Sage--many of our foodie-est friends were telling us that it was the best wedding food they'd ever had. We also appreciated that Sage was very accommodating for our vegan and gluten free guests, and that their family style options include many dishes that are already vegan/gluten free, ensuring that nobody was short of options for delicious food. Sage also helped us realize our vision for our bar menu, helping provide fresh lime and lemon juice for our signature cocktails and providing skillful bartenders to keep all our guests satisfied. Our day-of catering manager also did a fantastic job making sure we were fed and happy, bringing us appetizers while we were signing our marriage license, checking in with us during dinner to make sure we had everything we needed, and even preparing to-go boxes for us in case we were hungry at the end of the night. The food was excellent, fresh, and creative, and many people have raved to me about the salmon. The experience working with them was also very good - during cocktail hour they made sure my husband and I got appetizers, even bringing us a plate with a couple of each, which was so appreciated. They also did an excellent job with the bar, even figuring out changes on the fly - my dad wanted one of our signature drinks that was grapefruit based, without the grapefruit. They made a lemon version for him in the moment, and then remembered just what to make him each time he came back! We did need to order all the tableware rentals and alcohol ourselves, however Meredith was an excellent partner through the planning process, and guided us really well on what we needed, and how much of everything to get. We picked out the styles we wanted with the rental company and then she worked with our planner and the rental company to handle the order details and quantities of everything, something I wouldn't have known where to start with. They also provided all the fresh juices and garnishes for the bar. Our venue also had tricky drop off and pick up requirements, and she executed all of that seamlessly. The mom and uncle of the owner showed up early to set up and start cooking. They were professional, kind, and very friendly. Kids and adults alike really enjoyed the churros too! They boxed up all leftovers after the event, so we ate tacos for leftovers and froze a bunch too for later. The only thing one of my friends said was that paying extra for salad wasn't worth it because the salad was just from a bag. Everything was delicious, and I ate too much!
