Need your comics fix? This is the place! Well stocked. One thing does bug me about this place, however. The signage warning you that this is a collector's store and to watch your children is excessive to the point of being unfriendly. I almost don't want to touch anything in the store for fear that they'll make me buy it for leaving a fingerprint. C'mon, ease up a little!!! Who gives you a great discount? THESE GUYS DO! So I've been in search of back issues of Uncanny X-Force and they had a significant amount of them! They also had a number of variants available behind the counter. I saw 2 that I wanted but didn't want to spend so much. The girl with the star tattoos on each shoulder asked if she could give me a discount, sure enough they gave me half off both. Essentially it was BOGO! THANKS! Comics 'N Stuff in El Cajon, CA is a collector's paradise - whether it be... - Back issues of comic books; - Newer releases of comic books; - Trading cards (Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon, Sports, etc.) - Collectable coins and monetary tender; - Stuffed animals; - Imports; - CDs and DVDs; - Figurines; - Supplies; ...Basically, they've got it! Their selection is incredibly large and diverse; it is truly a vast treasure trove of collectables. You could literally spend an entire day in here, arbitrarily exploring. I am especially impressed by their selection of supplies (storage boxes, containers, binders, folders, soft plastic/hard plastic sleeves, top loaders, snap cases, trophy displays, etc.) They aren't always on the same shelf, though. You may have to explore the wall where the trading cards are. I've been here several times to purchase a variety of plastic protector cases for my Pokémon Trading Card collection. I own several very rare and exclusive treasures, so having flawless protection is an absolute requirement. It is hard to find magnetic plastic snap cases, but this establishment has them! I may have to go back to purchase their hard plastic top loaders for jumbo cards, since I have quite a few oversized cards. I may also have to remember to purchase more magnetic snap cases. I can never have enough! I have mixed feelings of the employees - certain individuals are very friendly, respectful, and ready to help you at the drop of a hat. Others...are a bit lethargic and slow in gaining their services. Nevertheless, I always walk away very satisfied. I purchased an import which was only available in Japan. I had one at home, but that one was damaged and I had been looking for a new one. The employee was happy to give me a special discount since it was an older product and wanted to sell it. Awesome discount? You can't beat that! I highly recommend paying a visit to Comics 'N Stuff, it is definitely worth checking out. read more

What can I say I thought this place was legit I went in last week to buy a Pokémon xy evolution booster pack while I was in my car while I was opening it I saw some glue they reseal booster packs. I still have the booster pack with the glue residue.I have open 500 plus booster packs and none have the glue residue on it like this place here caution! This Comics 'N Suff location has to be one of my favorite comic book shops of all time! I feel like I am always stopping by, regardless if I had something in mind to buy or not. They have a very extensive collection of figures and other memorabilia. This is typically the main reason I pay them a visit. They also have a great selection of hard cover comics. If hey don't have something you are looking for in this store, they will call around to he other locations for you! The staff members here are always extremely helpful and personable. I always find myself having lengthy conversations with the ladies behind the counter! The staff also tend to make GREAT suggestions for new comics. They've gotten me into a few characters this way! This comic book store is pretty awesome! It's so huge, you can spend so much time in here trying to figure out which next comic book you want to read. They literally have everything from comic books to figurines. I was able to find a Superman comic book that no other Comic book store in SD had. -drools- COMICS GALORE. -eyes widen- I recently got into reading comics, so my first visit here was like bringing a child into a candy store (probably a bad analogy, but whatever). This place is pretty huge - they sell all types of other collectibles as well: trading cards, american currency, action figures, etc. ALSO, Comics N Stuff has various locations throughout San Diego SO if you can't find what you need at one you can go to another one. ANOTHER THING: They have a discount card for those, like myself, who buy from their store frequently - keep that in mind. In any case, I love this place - and all their other locations as well...well, their Chula Vista mall location could be a bit better in terms of selection...that or I just get there at the wrong times and can never find what I want. read more

I've been a customer at the parkway and grossmont locations for a couple years now and had very pleasant experiences and even had good conversations with employees. Unfortunately, this was not the case with the 1020 El Cajon Blvd. I decided to visit this location based on seeing some reviews about this location buying and selling coins under the name "Santee coins". I just wanted to sell 2 of my 1889-cc Morgan dollar coins and some peace dollar coins. On 3/24/20 was the first time I tried to enter the El Cajon Blvd location, I stopped by shortly after I had gotten off, rushed over and arrived at 7:20pm. Unfortunately, the door was locked and I was greeted by a lady on her cellphone saying "we are sorta closed, but I'll be with you in a moment". Taken back by this, because I double checked the hours and was sure they closed at 8pm. I checked again and sure enough they closed 40 mins early!! So, I waited til 7:30pm while she sat there on her cellphone talking. I finally decided to leave at 7:35pm and figured I'd come back the next day, as they've already closed it seemed. On 3/25/20, the second day went better, I actually got into the store! BUT was promptly told to leave. I opened the door and walked in to a young lady at the counter, talking with another customer. I wasn't greeted so, walk past them and was rudely called by the young lady saying "excuse me, dude, can I help you with something?" In a very rude and unwelcoming tone. I turned around and said "yes, I saw a couple reviews online about your coins and was wondering if I could look take a look at them, and-" Cutting me off before I could tell her I was interested in selling my coins, she said "if you don't know what you specifically want I can't let you in the store." So I left, as I didn't know what specific coins I wanted or even what coins they even had for that matter. I was just looking to browse and buy some coins. As for trying to sell my coins, I would hate to sell my coins to a business that treats customers like this. I won't be returning to this location and neither should anyone looking for a fun, fast, easy, or pleasant experience at a comic book store. read more

When we first moved to San Diego we had no idea where anything was or even what El Cajon was (we were in for a hot surprise!), but we were for sure excited to see a huge comic store just down the street from our new place. Unfortunately we've been in here far less than we'd previously imagined, but that's our own fault as I've -- gasp -- been doing most of my reading digitally. Regardless, this is a great store. I specifically went in one time to find some comics a friend of mine had written and most of them they had, however one they did not stock. I asked the employee about it and he said they'd be happy to order it for me. I declined saying I'd just get it from my friend, but I really appreciated the offer. They have tons of toys and a naughty 18 and over curtained back room. I've never been to any of their other locations, but why would I when I can walk to this big ol' shop in five minutes. read more

I make it a habit to stop by Comics N Stuff whenever I'm home for the holidays or vacation. I usually frequent the chain's National City location but the El Cajon one is larger and better! I was told that it is the base and warehouse for the other locations so it makes sense that it should be the largest. When I walked in I was overwhelmed by the size. From the outside one would not think it to be that way. As I pulled into their lot, I had no problem finding parking. Anyway, the selection is great especially if you're into comics. I am into Pokemon and so I was able to walk around and find collectibles, posters, and most importantly, trading cards! As I entered the store I was quickly greeted by an employee, Casey, who told me that if I needed anything to not hesitate and ask. Once I knew what I wanted, I approached her and she helped me. The service was great! The selection is awesome! I like to think of the Comics N Stuff chain to be a gem that not too many people are aware of but should be! read more

This store is a walking contradiction--before you stop reading let me tell you why. It's the biggest store in the Comics-N-Stuff chain (which is an awesome company) which also makes it the one with the largest selection. That's a plus... what's not a plus and disappointed me when I arrived: They have no $1 back issues! Although they carry the harder to find issues it's a bummer they don't offer the same prices as the mall version of the stores. So if you're looking for a SPECIFIC issue then this is the place to go to. Otherwise if you're barely starting a collection or finishing runs like me, head to the mall stores. The people who work here are nice and are willing help if you ask. But yea they have EVERYTHING. Make sure you're willing to spend some money! read more

It's to bad that almost every time I have come here, it's the same 2 - 3 girls ' working ' . The shop isn't that bad. It has some good stuff. But when you have horrible customer service reps , it just kills everything else. When you walk in, it's like you don't exist. The girls/ladies behind the counter just go on about their gossip, as if nothing else is going on. And WATCH OUT if you ask one of them to see something.... lol You might get the look of death, or ignored and have to ask again. Am getting back into comics with my sons and we decided to check this place out since it is closest to where we live. The selection is huge and they have a lot of other collectibles in their store like Hello Kitty which my wife likes and coins etc. Their prices seem a bit higher than other comic book stores but their customer service has been very good and they even had free BBQ Hamburgers and Hot Dogs for everyone a couple of weeks ago. Overall I am pleased with this store but wonder how do you get these discounts that other Yelpers are saying they get? read more

Stay away with this store if you are a trading card collectors. I spent a lot of money in this store to buy pokemon cards. I tried 2 branches of this store the 1 in el cajon at the one in mission valley mall. I am surpriced that they are selling resealed pokemon cards. I got a white card many times but i got a regular rare. No shiny rare. I didn't get even one shiny card. All are garbage cards and the pack i noticed a glued resealed packs. I thought at first it's just an error pack but after opening more than 30 boxes and canisters of pokemon cards from this store i finally realized that i was scammed by this store. Since then I didn't enter in this store. I want to sue them for selling me a resealed over price pokemon cards. If i can only give them a negative 1 million rating i will do it. Save your money guys don't buy in this store with a very bad reputation in trading cards. If you enter in the store you will noticed they are selling empty canisters of pokemon cards too!!! All their pokemon cards are resealed. If you don't want to believe me.. try it by your own risk. Buy from them and you will find out that I'm telling the truth. read more

The store is huge and seems to go on forever. I know they don't have everything, but it just seems like that. Staff is typical comics, but if there is something you need, the owner is always out at conventions and will help you find whatever you need, from toys, to figures, to trading cards, to even comics. Love this place and they always have great customer service. I did not like one things today which was that I buy multiple copies of comic books for myself and they always give me a discount because I purchased a membership discount. This time around they only honored it for the first 2 copies which is something they had never done. People should just go to their other locations if tgey will not honor the discount on all the comic books you are going to buy. read more

I downloaded yelp just so I can write about my horrible experience here. Whenever I go to this store, I always feel unwelcomed, maybe because I don't look like the stereotypical nerd...I don't know... but I've been into this type of stuff since the early 90s (I even have Bruce Timm's autograph!) When I was looking at Nightwing comics, I overheard a younger guy with long hair talking about me to a man who I'm assuming was the manager. I knew they were talking about me because I overheard them talk about a guy in a black hat (I was the only one in the store wearing a hat). I looked over at them confused to as why they would talk about me as if I had bad intentions, and they ceased talking and just stared at me. I continued to look browse for comics, but felt a little hurt because I love these types of stuff just as any respectable fan. I continued to look for the comics I had on my list and really wanted to be on my way. When I went to pay, I felt like the people there didn't want me there. I've been to other locations and had wonderful experiences with the people working there, except this one. I can't be the only person who has had this experience so I am hoping this review will have some effect to those working there so they can change the way they see customers who don't look like your typical nerd. I prefer the Grossmont location. The staff at the Grossmont location are wonderful and i always leave happy. Definitely go to the Grossmont location if you are looking for a pleasant experience. They make me feel welcomed and accepted and I'd even make small talk with them about comics and nerd culture. The Mission Valley location is also wonderful. I will only go to the El Cajon location as a last resort. The selection in El Cajon is slightly better than Grossmont's but that isnt enough for me to want to enter their store willingly. I feel like a comic shop should welcome all types of people, because although we might not look like your stereotypical nerd, we are just as passionate about the culture. This experience reminded me of all the times I was not accepted during elementary, middle school, and high school for liking comics and superheroes. Just started going here a couple months ago and was pretty happy with everything til now. I just visited the main store on El Cajon blvd at 12:30 PM . I just bought current bags and boards yesterday. The boards width are slightly thinner than the comics so I wanted to see if they had some I could exchange the ones I just bought out at least get a refund. I was told there was nothing they could do for me. I understand about no returns or exchanges on comics or other collectibles but boards? Come on. I've spent quite a bit of money in not just this store but just about every other comics n stuff in San Diego. I am also bought a membership card because I planned on coming back on a regular basis. Unfortunately I doubt I'll be coming back because of they can't help me with a simple board situation I doubt they'll want to fix this one. read more

One look at this place from the outside and you're going to drown in your very own drool (maybe even your friends' drool if he/she is standing next to you). Immediate thoughts of finding everything you have been looking for will cloud your mind. You see murals of comic characters painted on the wall that span across this long rectangular building and it gives off this mom and pop shop feel to it. After all the admiration, you proceed to see what is in the belly of this beast and... It looks promising! Statues line the wall immediately to the right, a huge stage-like counter with magazines and goodies straight ahead and a smorgasbord of comics and action figures fall deep into the darkness of the gut on the left side of this store. Your state of mind swiftly shifts to continuous swipes of the credit card and bag loads of your nerd fix. As you continue on things start to fall into place. The entryway is partially decorated with current items enticing you to navigate some more! Then as you penetrate through the goods you get a dose of reality...this place has been gutted of all it's goodies!!!?? You start seeing rotted toys of the 80's and 90's clinging to the shelves and unwanted characters from different toy lines collecting so much dust it built a few dust bunnies. By the end of the trip your left carrying probably one thing and it has switched from possible maxxed out credit card status to being able to pull a few ones out of your wallet. Honestly I want to give this location three stars because it does have a pretty good selection of comics, but I factored this in: The place is like Thanksgiving dinner! Everyone had their picking at the good stuff and too many left overs in the aftermath. I hope the owners decide to put a little TLC into this place and update their stock because the potential is there. read more

First off: they have tons of back issues. I mean, I actually got annoyed when I realized how far I'd have to walk to get to the section of the alphabet I was looking for--obviously in actuality this is a plus. You have a pretty good chance of finding that one issue you're missing here. Second: their new/recent issues rack is also enormous. Everything is kept organized by series title and they are all bagged (though not boarded--which saddens me.) They also go from left to right across the entire stretch instead of in sections, which makes estimating the location of your titles a bit tricky at times. However, prepare to pay. While some stores (*cough*SoCalComics*cough*) offer ancient issues for $1 at most, here you can find the crappiest quality one and expect to pay anywhere from $2.50 to $15. Their graphic novels run similarly--full price, baby. They have a lot. But as most have noted, their don't seem keen on lowering their prices. My advice: if you have a ton of back issues to find, you're better off going to SoCal, cashing in on the monthly deal at San Diego Comics, or buying the lot from an online seller. However, if you need that one issue of Robin before you continue on your set and you don't mind shelling out a few dollars to avoid the hassle, this is your place. read more

What I like best is that you can have them pull your favorite comics each month. This is the flagship store- the largest of all the locations. The staff is friendly, the huge selection of current and back issues can't be beat, and it's not a overstuffed mess like many of the other comic shops in San Diego. The few dollar bins they have are regularly topped up, so I always check there first for anything I might be looking for.
