Do NOT come to this bar unless you want to get robbed by the arrogant and rude bartenders. I was charged $20 for a shot of well tequila. Gratuity ($14) was added to our bill without our knowledge. When I confronted the bartender with this obscene bill he reaponded by saying "welcome to New York" and walking away. I will be disputing this charge and will not be returning. read more

The bar situation, specifically getting a drink or closing a tab, needs a lot of improvement. It took 45 minutes to get the bartenders attention. I understand bars can get busy but either hire higher skilled bartenders, more bartenders or build a second bar. read more

Going to Common Ground will likely go down as the single worst decision I'll make in my entire life. Let me paint you a picture: The night started off fine. We did have to wait about 20 minutes in a line after 8 PM, despite there being about a dozen people in the line, no one inside, and our ticket saying that doors open at 8 pm. But whatever, I can live with that. As the hours went by and the place started getting more crowded, that's when the real shitshow began. Common Ground clearly sold way too many tickets and understaffed their employees. There were probably close to 200 people there and only 3 bartenders. And they may have been the three worst bartenders on this planet. One guy kept arguing, saying we could only purchase one drink at a time. He wasted so much time arguing and being rude to patrons that he could have used to, you know, actually give people drinks. The mob around the bar made it near impossible to get a drink. But the worst bartender of all was a young blonde woman, who displayed some truly remarkable acts of unprofessionalism. First, she refused to serve anyone who didn't offer her a big tip (this was an open bar), even taking tips from people and not giving them their drinks. Then, she would take breaks from serving people by going on her phone and taking selfies, despite a massive amount of people waiting for drinks. She was clearly intoxicated the entire night, and should not be bartending anywhere. I could have done a better job blindfolded. But somehow, it got worse. Much worse. As the night wound down, we decided to get our coats and leave. But the coat check was so incredibly poorly run, it became clear very quickly we weren't leaving any time soon. It appears all coats were just thrown into a pile in a back room, so no one could figure out which coats belonged to who. This led to a massive line, which led to angry, drunk patrons, which led to fights, some started by bouncers and staff employees. I understand bouncers have to do their jobs and keep everything under control, but most of them did the opposite, being rude and aggressive with mainly innocent patrons. After being pushed out of a line that did not move for an hour by a bouncer, my friends and I were obviously annoyed. One of my friends went up to the blonde bartender to voice frustrations. She even bought a drink to be nice! Instead, the same blonde bartender went up to a bouncer and pointed to my group, which led to the bouncer throwing out my girlfriend who was simply standing there and minding her own business. (I can assure you, no one deserved to be thrown out.) I nearly reached a breaking point here, but kept my cool despite this bouncer manhandling my girlfriend for no reason. I followed her outside and waiting in the cold for a half an hour, praying our friends could get our coats. Both of us were already sick and lucky our conditions didn't get worse. Finally, when my girlfriend couldn't handle the cold anymore, I went up to the bouncer at the front door and asked if we could simply wait inside the front until our coats were retrieved, which the bartender responded with "Give me $10." The icing on the cake. I will never even go near NYC on New Year's Eve after this horrific experience. Pretty much every single Common Ground employee should not only be fired, but also be banned from working a job in this industry again; they are clearly not qualified (especially that blonde bartender). Whoever owns this place should be deeply ashamed and sell it, because they're clearly incapable of running any sort of event there. Please NEVER GO TO COMMON GROUND. Maybe it's not awful on a random night but it's clearly these people have no idea what they're doing and don't deserve your business. read more

Don't go there. Stools were covered in dust and no one seemed to be able to find a rag. Over charged for drinks. Placed an order for bites from the menu given to us. Then after drinks came, told kitchen wasn't serving food and you can have some 'goldfish'. If that is experience you want, go for it! But you have a lot of cool choices in the area. read more

I came to Common Ground after meeting a group of twenty-something's walking around meatpacking looking for a good time. Next thing I know, the drinks are flying, the music is bumping, and we're all having the time of our lives. The drinks were a tad watery but that is to be expected at this type of place. The music is Top 40/House and the DJ knows how to keep the girls dancing. I would have given 5 stars but some sketchy club promoted named Jon (I think) kept trying to sell me drugs by the bathroom and I had to tell him to back off. Ownership should really get their guys in line - but hey, it's New York. Will be back. read more

DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE A CENT. It was a very horrible experience. Paid $104 for an open bar, and the bartenders were wasted the entire time. They were completely incapable of doing their job and then yelled at each person they served a drink to. Every time I attempted to get a drink, the bartenders said, "they needed a minute" and would dance on each other, sit on the ground, and then stared at their phone. This place was a disaster. Not to mention when trying to leave this disorganized and incredibly unprofessional place, you waited in a coat check line for over an hour and still were not even close to getting your jacket that was piled on the floor. But to make matters worse they started giving random coats to random people while yelling in your face and pushing you to the ground, followed by kicking you outside without a coat. This was a really horrible establishment. Please shut it down. read more

I am a west village resident of 20 years. And by West Village I mean 4 blocks from this place on Washington and Perry. I have been a patron of all the local places - Paradou, Revel, Rhone, Cielo, Brass Monkey, etc.. I came here tonight and they would not let me and my group in because it was a private halloween party. I stumbled upon this place when it just opened and was very impressed. Even had a conversation with the owner. To be told that I couldn't celebrate a friend's birthday in my own backyard was truly disappointing. Local establishments should honor local residents who pay a hefty price to live in one of the most coveted neighborhoods IN THE WORLD. I offered to show the door people my license proving my residency and still nothing. Bad taste in my mouth and very disappointed. read more

I found myself in the meatpacking district pretty much because of bad luck (normally it's not my vibe), but then it was good luck that I stumbled on this place. Kyle at the bar was great and gave us french fries even though the kitchen was closed, which was essential. My mom and I are margarita snobs and the margs were great by our standards:) read more

So we went because we where in the area and decided to go in and it looked amazing. We sat by the bar and the bartender was very nice... We were talking about our fav drinks and she said she like tequila and even tho we said we didn't want it she made us try the a little bit. She said go ahead its on me. So we texted other friends and they joined us we were like 7 people. When we went to check out she gave us the receipt but when my friend went to pay, she gave him a different receipt with 'oh' that tequila shot that we didn't order and now she's charging us for it. She said that my friend who left earlier wanted us to pay for the shot. However, none of us liked tequila, so she was lying because our friend paid her tab in front of us and the bartender never said anything. So I will never go back to this place it was such a bad service from the bartender and it's terrible to add drinks that we didn't order. Plus we brought all the other people. I will make sure that everyone that comes to NYC will not go to this place. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Based on the below reviews, my friends and I were very excited to celebrate a 23rd birthday here. We went on a regular Saturday night, showed up around 10:15pm (which is definitely early for NYC) and still waited 40 minutes in line. Once the girls finally got in, they decided to not let in any of our guy friends (only 3). Next was the bathroom line, which felt like prison. The bathroom managers had you stand up against the wall and god forbid you moved an inch, you proceeded to get pushed out of the way and up against the wall. Then the bathroom attendant would flash his light at you to move a single inch down the line each time there appeared to be room, and would continue to flash his light at you and direct you into a stall. If you took more than 1 minute in the stall, he began to bang on the door. After all of these awful experiences, we decided to stay and try to enjoy it since we waited so long, even though we did not want to give any money towards this establishment. This was another big mistake as 3 measly shots of tequila was followed by a $60 bill. Meanwhile, my friend who paid for the next round was only charged $42. Overall, this place felt very degrading, the management and staff must have been on a power trip that night, because it was extremely unwelcoming and I've never experienced a bar like this in NYC and will most definitely not be back nor recommend to anyone. read more

WORST BAR EVER. Went here for NYE, General admission was up to 300.00$ so me and my two friends did the admission after 12:30 which was 80.00$. We get there at 12:45 and the coat check line was 25 minutes long to then charge us 5.00$ per coat. We go to get a drink and it seemed that every single bar tender was "on break of serving drinks". They all started gossiping and slowly disappearing. They would pour ice in glasses look you in the eye and walk away. One bartender even held up his hands for us to tip him in order to get a drink. If we were receiving drinks there would've been tips. This was an open bar and the bartenders served us 1 drink in the 3 hours we were there and that was a struggle to get. The place wasn't even that crowded for it to be this ridiculous. Went to get our coats at the end, lady drops the ticket and announces a random other ticket number trying to give me someone else's coat. I had a picture of my ticket number so I showed her and she points to the hanger with my number and no coat. I had to inform her it was in a ball on the ground. Worst service EVER. read more

Went here for NYE with a large group of friends. From the first moment we got there the mess ensued. Doors were supposed to open at 8, weren't open until closer to 8:30 on a feels like -1 degree night that's a bigger deal. Onto drinks, the number of drinks one could order at a time changed by time and the bartender. If your order was a mixed drink and not a beer you may just get your order taken and skipped over. Shortly into the night the bar was down to two physical bartenders, but one was surely drunk and at one point actually said "I'm not serving any drinks until there's tips on the bar." Fast forward a few hours and we're ready to get home. The coat check line was well over an hour and a half of people pushing and shoving with no organization and bouncers screaming and pushing you off the "lines" they attempted to place you in. Literally saw a bouncer push the girl in front of me to the floor. Would never, never recommend this place for an event or night out. read more

I attended the Joonbug meatpacking party pass event on New Years Eve. It was supposed to include open bar to 3 clubs- The Chester, The Lately, and Common Ground. The entire event was completely unorganized, they made us wait for 2.5 hours before letting anyone in, but that's an entirely different story and this review is focused solely on Common Ground. I arrived probably around 1am and there were 2 doors to enter. When we tried to enter the bouncers told us they were "at capacity" and not accepting our prepaid wristbands anymore unless we paid extra. We already paid $115 for the wristband and 2.5 hours of open bar were missing because they didn't let us in at the stated time. How can you be at capacity but magically there's space if we pay you...? They were clearly lying and trying to hustle people. We told them fine if it's capacity we'll wait until people leave so we can enter but requested if we could wait inside after the 1st door. It was like 10 degrees that night and they refused. They told us we had to wait outside even though it was only 3 girls and no one else waiting. When we asked again to just wait inside one of the bouncer physically assaulted me and put his entire body against mine and walked forward to push me outside into the cold. Mind you I'm a 120 Lb 5'4 girl and this bouncer had to be over 6'. I have never been treated more rudely and will definitely never be returning to Common Ground or another Joonbug or Crave Tickets event ever again.
