a glass of white wine on a table
    Michelle W.

Good place to have a drink. Sat outside on a beautiful day and drank wine. I got a Chardonnay ($9)and Prosecco ($8). The outside seating is under trees so it is cooler. There is also some seating inside but it is a small space. Lots of wine options and you can buy bottles. That also have frozen drinks($9)! To eat you can get bread and oil but not much more that I saw.

We enjoyed sitting on the sidewalk patio after the art festival. Great drinks and food! Bartender was nice and service was quick. Will go back when we are in the area.

Commonwealth Tap is known as being a cozy spot in Norton Commons to have a glass of wine, beer, or whiskey. The bartenders are well-versed and the selection available suits almost any palette and price point. What I didn't realize, before our first visit last night, was that it can get a little loud and rowdy on a game night. We grabbed the last table in the narrow room and discussed the well-curated menu with a friendly and knowledgable server. TVs showing the UofL game were placed at the back and at the bar. Plenty of folks were enjoying their friends and drinks while commenting/cheering/booing UVA. Within minutes of ordering our lovely glasses of wine, and in the middle of our conversation, a verbal brawl broke out at the table next to us. We were expecting a fist fight to ensue as we sipped our drinks and checked for the closest exit. The amped up mood and colorful language continued well after one of the groups departed. Really?!? Middle aged yuppies throwing down here? Never expected this at a taproom/wine bar located in a planned, suburban community. Commonwealth is a lovely spot that, without this type of clientele, deserves four stars. But, booze + sports can equal inappropriate behavior. Even if this was a rare occurrence, the atmosphere created with games on TVs and loud fans wasn't the chill, wine bar I'd imagined. Think we'll wait until warm weather returns and basketball is over to come back and enjoy some wine on the front patio.

My boyfriend and I stopped in here on a whim when we were early to Norton Commons for an event. I was instantly charmed, and by the end of our brief visit wished that it was more convenient for me to visit! The bar is warm and inviting, as are the bartenders. It appeared as though there is table service, at least when it isn't too busy, but we ordered at the bar. I was a little surprised that there wasn't *more* beer on the menu and available. I was pleased with my ultimate decision. but a place with "Tap" in it's name screams BEER to me. And this seems to be more of a wine bar or a bourbon place. That said, I certainly think everyone could find something to drink and enjoy here! There is ample and comfortable seating. In fact, it feels like there is too much seating. Which is an opinion influenced by the size of the bar height stools. They appear to take up a lot of space, and although there were only 2 other couples in the place and seated at the bar, I had to push some of the stools out of the way to get in the the seat at our chosen table. They have a large front window that can be opened, with the possibility to order from and enjoy your beverage outside. My complaints are minor and were only obvious because of how good just about everything else was. I would certainly be glad to go back sometime!

We stopped by to grab a drink after finishing dinner in a closed by restaurant. This place is pretty cozy, with a small indoor area and a tiny outdoor seating area. Good wine and bourbon selection by glass, or you can open a bottle of wine with $20 corkage fee. They offer Happy hour starting at 3pm, and offer 15%-50% off depends on the time. Will try to hit there for happy hour next time ^^

Quaint spot with outstanding bourbon selection. Relatively small with about 8 seats at the bar and 6 four top tables. They have about 10 craft on tap and a decent wine selection. Service was very good and the cocktails were very well made. Other than a cheese plate and some other random item no other options for food which for me translates into 1 less star.

From the moment we walked in just an amazing experience. We were part of a surprise party of 6 and…read morethe staff knew it. They created our birthday girl as a reservation for 2 instead of 6 and helped us surprise her at the table. The lighting is a bit dark but that helped the surprise. The manager brought out a sparkling wine and the chef sent out an amuse bouche. The pimento spread was so good we took a pint home for $20 (shhh secret). Our waitress Mo was professional a helpful with meal suggestions and separating some mushrooms for me. The shrimp appetizer is delicious and had 9 shrimp. The corn fitters come in 4 and Mo added 2. They were okay but I'd try something different in the future. The whole large kernels were odd in a light fritter. Our meals were fantastic. Everyone raved about bites of the filet and the chicken dish. The bolognese is a staple in the menu and was almost the perfect bite, perhaps a bit more meat in the sauce but the pasta was perfect. I had the wild boar and goat cheese polenta. The polenta didn't have a strong goatyness to it but was creamy, I ate it all. The boar was done to just short of falling off the bone. I used a piece of the grilled bread from my friends pasta to finish the meal. The wine list is short but complex. We had the Rioja red, so dry and smelled of old leather, but was a perfect wine to cut through the richness of the dishes. Our seat had a great view of the whiskey wall (almost every seat does) and it was a conversation piece the whole evening. Oh, forgot to mention the manhattan can be made into a black manhattan- outstanding. Best I've had in a restaurant. We are already making plans for our parties next birthday in July and will be asking for Mo. she was there at every turn throughout the meal. Pleasant and there to help at any point. The manager checked on us two times. WHP does fine dining so well. I haven't had such a wonderful evening for everyone in quite some time. We will be back and highly recommend. Will be sending out an executive's here when they are looking for L'ville dining. Well done. Sorry no pics, the room is dark and the ones I took don't do the meal justice.

Food 2.5/5: This obviously carries the most weight. The menu itself is excellent and the descriptions and components of each dish sound perfect. The execution was way off! Literally everything was far too salty and we ordered things that should not be salty... diver scallops and black cod. These are delicate proteins that don't need much help. Why oh why over-salt these?! Oddly the cook on both was very good but the seasoning ruined both dishes. Drinks 4.5/5: We had 3 different cocktails all of which were excellent.

Madeleine's is not a wine tasting bar but a restaurant with an extensive wine list (for this small town, at least). They have a fairly extensive food menu as well as many unique wines on their list. They also serve beer, if that's your thing. One of the owners seated us and let us know that we could sample any of the wines with which we were unfamiliar before ordering a full glass. Although we had not planned to eat there as it was 3pm, our husbands popped in, so we ended up with an order of meatballs too. We absolutely loved them! They had a very bright flavor with a hint of some sort of spice in the sauce, which was amazing. We plan to come back for an actual dinner at some point soon as the food that we had was exceptional. The menu is extensive; the ambience is nice; and, the service was excellent. A bit of backstory for you -- the owners had moved from New York back to Kentucky after many years in the high-end restaurant business in New York City. The "Madeline" in the name of the restaurant is not the name of either owner; it's the name of one of the owner's mothers -- traditionally done in the restaurant business for good luck!

Every bite was fantastic. I left completely satisfied without being over-full. Can't wait to return with friends!

There is very little personality in the decor, and aside from some unconventional chairs and a tile floor by the bar, nothing really sticks out as pleasing to the eye. I chose this restaurant for Valentine's Day to have a romantic, intimate atmosphere, and the vibe was giving summer camp lunch. The floor plan is very open and super grey, with plain wood tables. Even the servers were in very casual clothing. Any other night this would have been fine, but for Valentine's Day, I wish I had picked something more romantic.
