I have bought several appliances over the past few years from Community Appliance for my rental property, and I had been fairly happy with them. But recently I bought a refrigerator that has had to be repaired three times for the same thing. The second time my renter told me that the repairman said that the problem couldn't really be fixed and that it would happen again. So now we are on the third time and I let the woman who answers the phone know that I would come in and pick out a different refrigerator and that I would be happy to pay the difference if the new one I bought cost more. Tonight, I received a call from the owner who told me that he had picked out a refrigerator that he would take over to the rental, but that when the warranty expired in three weeks there would be no further warranty on the new refrigerator. I told him this was unacceptable to me, clearly the refrigerator was damaged beyond repair when purchased. He repeated several times that there would be no warranty and that he would choose the replacement refrig. He interrupted me and spoke over me repeatedly. He also said that he, himself, went out as the repairman the second time and that he never told my tenant that it would not be possible to fix the refrigerator. I asked for his name and he told me Louis. I asked for his last name and he refused to provide it. Then he said I was yelling at him, which I don't believe I was. I simple repeated my request for his last name. I also asked him to spell his first name and he refused. It's easy enough to find his name with a search through the Oregon Secretary of State website. It is Luis Urueta. I certainly will not ever buy another appliance through Community Appliance. read more

We purchased a refrigerator from this company at the beginning of January. It was delivered and installed by Luis, the owner. Within two months of installation the fridge started having defrost issues which caused the fridge compartment to hit 70+ degrees, ruining all our food and our disabled daughters medical supplies. Being a HVAC/R repair technician it was easy to identify what the issue was, but the unit was under warranty so we called Community appliances out to fix the issue. They initially told us they couldnt get a tech our for at least 2 weeks and that we should just store our food in the neighbors fridge. From the moment Luis walked through the door it seemed like he was trying to find a reason not to honor the warranty. First he tried to tell us it froze up because it was too close to the wall... Which, if he knew anything about the refrigeration cycle he would know that a blocked condenser would not cause the evaporator coil to freeze. Then he tried to tell us it was a door seal issue, which somehow started presenting 2 months after installation. He adjusted the door and left. A few weeks later it froze up again. Once again Luis came out and tried to say it was our fault. I had given my partner a list of the symptoms that proved it was a defrost control board issue, which he ignored and tried to tell us, again, it was our fault it was freezing up and that it was not a defrost issue but how we loaded it. He again adjusted the door and left. Luis probably didn't realize that beings I work in the Refrigeration field, I have thermal imaging and other advanced diagnostic tools. There was never any leak in the door seal and if he ad read the tech manual for the control board he would have known how to do the diagnostics to identify the issue. The next week it froze again, we defrosted it manually this time. The following week it froze again. This time a friend had given us a fridge so swapped units and reached out to community appliances. Robyn, the office lady, told us there was no way they were going to replace the part that was defective because "it was too expensive" She also told us they would not give us a refund for the fridge and they werent willing to come pick it up. It wasnt until we threatened to take the issue to small claims court that they at least gave us some of the money back. They also tried to say that us doing non-invasive diagnostics voided the warranty but there is nothing in the warranty that states non-invasive diagnostics aren't allowed. Luis took no responsibility for the mistakes made by him during the installation and in my opinion, does not appear to know what he is doing. Stay away from this company, you are better off getting a used fridge from craigslist. read more

I bought my Washer/Dryer here 4 years ago as a "cheap W/D we will buy now until we save up for new luxury ones" Well, it's 4 years on the cheap clunkers and I can't seem to kill them. We had one repair during our 6 month warranty and it was super easy to work with them and that was years ago. After the warranty ended the same thing happened and the tech was able to tell us what he did so that we wouldn't need to pay for a service , so we have repaired it ourselves, very easily since(something come in aligned and we just have to move it back) Anyways I really came to make this review because we recently had our fridge(not purchased here) break and we called about Appliance Repair service. They were very economically priced for the diagnosis and were so nice working with me to set up a repair. Luis who did the repair was super great at his job and I felt very comfortable with him in my house. As far as service men who have done work in my house he was by far the most polite. He's probably the same guy who helped us with our W/D who I'd remembered from years ago was so delightful which is why I called them about the fridge. Community Appliance is such a treasure in this neighborhood that I do recommend them out frequently. Luis sold us a used electric stove for $400. Seven months later the lower element wire burnt off and the entire heating element needed to be replaced. Luis said the part would be between $100-150 and that there would also be a labor charge but he didn't say how much. I had to guess that labor would be between $75-$150. So the total repair would be somewhere between $175-300. That would make the used electric stove we purchased from him seven months ago $575-700. That's crazy! I asked him if he considered it a quality stove worth investing in and he said he didn't know. He said he knows it worked when he sold it to me and that is all he knows. Luis is rude and arrogant and also seems to have serious issues dealing with women. This same sentiment has been expressed by others. I decided to go to another appliance repair store. The kind man there sold me an American made excellent condition used lower element for $20. I ended up repairing the stove myself. Good news is I found a used appliance sales and repair shop I like much better. read more

I'm disappointed. I have been a customer of community appliances for years, and purchased many items from there. Five months ago, I had them install a new part in a slide in range. The total job was about $500. The new part gave out recently and... Lo and behold... The manufacturer only has a three month warranty on a $300 part! The items that they sell off the floor have a six month warranty, but a new part only has a three month warranty? And they were not willing to make any adjustments to keep me as a customer. Fine. Worst service ever. Ever. Really. My dishwasher was, and still is, broken. The owner came out, charged me $50 and fixed nothing. All work is guarenteed. when I tried to make use of the guarentee, I was told, seriously, that since they didn't do anything they couldn't guarentee anything but they'd be willing to charge me another $50 to do it all again. When I was unhappy with this lack of expertise regarding fixing the problem (the owner can't seem to hear a noise loud enough to block conversation) and with the flim-flam fast-talking "guarentee," the owner was willing to talk in all kinds of circles, (i.e., "well if you went to a big corporation they'd charge you more to come out...") but not to actually work and fix the problem. They're entirely shady, far as I can tell. I wish I hadn't wasted a moment on this company. AVOID IT. read more

Is have to say that I was disappointed with our encounter with Community Appliances. I would have loved to be able to do business with them and to write a glowing review but the tech that came to our home wasn't very helpful. The initial scheduling with the office lady was AMAZING. She was nice, prompt, and efficient at scheduling someone to come to our home "for a 9:00am appointment but he might be a few minutes late". No problem. We said, "we understand if he runs a little behind. It happens." She said to install a dishwasher and a gas range would be around $75 each. Great, let's do it. At 10:00am of our scheduled date, we call to see where our installer is since we had other appointments we needed to keep and couldn't sit around waiting. "Oh, he hasn't left yet. But we're really close so we'll send him over right now." Ummm... Am I trippin or is 1 hr late considered more than "a few minutes"?? "Well, if your appointment was at 9am and you have to leave it wouldn't have worked anyway since it takes a couple of hours to do the job you're asking us to do." Well, we have someone staying at the house while he does the job, we just needed him be on time so we could tell him what the job was. And who are you to say that when you're late anyway?? Shouldn't you just say, "sorry, we're late." He shows up about 10 mins after we called, looks at our kitchen and appliances and says,"nope. I can't do that. I don't have the tools." Granted we were asking him to trim a counter back to accommodate a range that was 1" wider then the original, but that was only part of the job. We needed the range and dishwasher uninstalled and new ones installed. He didn't bother looking at the dishwasher nor offered to disconnect the range. So after waiting over an hour for him, he took 5 minutes to tell us that he can't do it, didn't look at the rest of the job to see what he COULD do, and scurried off back to the office. My husband ended up looking it up online and installed both the range and dishwasher himself because we were so discouraged by the lack motivation by appliance people we've experienced so far in this town. That's two for two in shitty installation companies so far. At least it saves us some money to DIY. read more

We walked in to their shop this morning and paid $309 for a nice looking Kenmore washer and dryer set. By 2:00 pm it was delivered, connected and working, thanks to the efforts made by the Community Appliances crew. Turns out we didn't have the part we needed that connects the dryer to the exhaust vent. I thought a trip to Home Depot was going to be needed, but no, they had the part in the truck and simply gave it to us. Then, while hooking up the washer, the man said, "I don't like these hoses." He went to the truck and came back with new ones, again, for no charge. This is how you win customers' loyalty and spark word of mouth. It's textbook. read more

We went in to Community Appliances at a little after 4 pm and found a nice heavy duty extra capacity Kenmore for $159.00. They had it delivered and installed with our old dryer hauled away for free by 4 pm the next day. Shop secure knowing they stand behind what they sell with a 90 day parts and labor warranty! Super prompt, friendly service. They fixed my broken washer, and it was a mess, after washing a big fluffy rug. The pump was super-clogged with tons of fibers. They cleaned it 5 times before it worked again, but also cautioned me that it was pretty near the end of its life. They put in another pump, with a guarantee. Total bill $155. They didn't fix it themselves, they gave my husband a part and let him deal with it. It broke again in the same way a few months later. When I called to inquire as to whether this circumstance extended the warranty the woman was immediately hostile with me, again. She talked over me, was antagonizing, disrespectful, and made a series of patronizing statements 'when you buy appliances, sometimes they break'. No kidding. A simple 'no' would have sufficed. Our old washer has been giving out and, of course, we have plenty of other places to put our money right now. I thought someone might be able to fix it, so I looked on yelp to see if there are still repairmen "out there". I saw that Community Appliances was rated high (and as an extra bonus we don't live far away from them). We drove over to scope out the operation and just to consider their refurbished washers (my husband reminded me how old our washer is, and how repair might be unlikely). We have never bought anything refurbished and I was a little dubious. The "showroom" of refurbished appliances is gorgeous. Everything is sparkly-clean. They also sell vintage/antique home decor and it's wound through-out the store (not that the bric-brac mattered to our mission, but it is an appealing space). The woman behind the desk dropped everything to show us the washers they had available. She took tons of time with us. We found a great (much-newer-than-ours) washer for a super price (and with a warranty). Two courteous and strong guys delivered it the very next day (and they installed into a tricky spot). They hauled the old washer away. All this for a fraction of what we would have spent on a new washer. We've done several loads of laundry and our refurb-washer is working like new. I am so grateful to the other reviewers who pointed me in this direction. I couldn't be more impressed. If you have an appliance give out ...you have GOT to check out these people! When the dryer failed due to a bad timer, they brought an identical replacement in just a couple of days. Delivery is easy - they scheduled appointments when it was convenient for me and always made it within their one hour window. The sales, delivery, and repair people are uniformly nice and friendly. The only reason I withheld a full 5 star rating back in 2011 was that you never can tell how a business will perform when the chips are down. Yeah, they were great at the time of purchase, but what about when they have to actually go above and beyond because something goes wrong? Almost 4 years later something FINALLY went wrong! 5 and a half months ago we went back to purchase another used major appliance. As expected, the purchase and installation went without a hitch. Friendly, no-pressure, low-price, 6-month guarantee, etc, etc, etc. The appliance broke down a week ago, and I thought, "Great, I'll bet the warranty ran out last week!" As luck would have it I was wrong. There was a week left on the 6-month warranty. My next thought was, "Great, I'll bet there is some fine-print on this so-called warranty." Let's face it, in most cases you might as well take your "warranty" and wind it up on your toilet-paper roll for all the good it is. So, prepared for the usual run-around I dialed Community Appliance. Mary checked her records and in a cheery voice said these exact words, "Hey, you are still under warranty!" as if she were actually HAPPY about it! Long story short, Omar was at my house the next morning and fixed the problem within 20 minutes of arriving. BAM Community Appliance! You just earned the full 5 star rating from me! Bought a washer here for around $150, over a year ago. It has been a work horse for our family of five, ever since. We did have a part wear out about a month ago. I called, and they had a technician come out the next day. He fixed the issue for around $60, and it is back in action. To start, my experience here is from last year. I sure hope they have stepped up their game, but my experience was so bad that I feel it is a disservice to others not to share. And to note, I have been a customer here for several years, the first washer/dryer set I purchased in 2009. We had some issues with it because it was old, but the repair guy was awesome and I think the total cost to fix was around $80. Well, several years later. I had one of the worst experiences ever. First of all, I never received a receipt for my next purchase here. I was supposed receive one when they delivered and installed the washer and dryer unit I purchased, but I did not receive one. Service in the shop was good, the woman helping me was very helpful. I actually purchased everything over the phone after visiting the showroom. Well, several months passed and the washer was acting up. So accordingly, I called them up to see if I was still covered under their warranty. I come to find out that there actually isn't a record of my sale at all, and since I didn't have the receipt, we just based everything off of the date from my calendar on the original install date (which fell within the 6 month window). We schedule an appointment for the middle of the day, and I arrange to take a day off of work so I could be sure to be home during the appointment window. At this point, I am thinking wow 5 stars. Although they don't have a record of my sale (their fault), they will still honor their warranty program. MAJOR MISTAKE. On the day of my appointment, literally one hour before my appointment, I was called and told by an associate that they would not honor my service call unless I pay their service fee. I was frustrated because when I had made the appointment, the person helping me indicated the service call would be covered as part of the warranty. Well, this person was adamant that they would not come out unless I paid. I understand that they are a business, and they need to make money but to call someone an hour before their appointment, and hold the customer hostage with a surprise service fee is simply unacceptable. At least one business day would have been appropriate, for goodness sakes I took off a day of work! In fact, if they would have called in advance I would have been fine with it and probably would have paid. Finally, I had my call escalated to pretty much everybody in the office and finally spoke with the owner. After several heated conversations, mostly with me explaining having to explain the concept that dropping a surprise fee on a customer an hour (now 30 minutes) before my appointment was not an acceptable business practice and disgraceful in terms of customer service. FINALLY, the owner agreed to come out. Well, he came out and was a total jerk to me. Man, what a chauvinist. Sure I'm young and I'm female, but just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I'm incompetent. In the end, after spending nearly $1000 with this business over the course of half a decade, I will NEVER patronize this shop. Please consider this when you do business with them. read more

do not buy appliances from this place! my parents bought me a stove from here while they were visiting and a month later the oven still doesn't work! the woman in the show room turned everything on in order to show us that all features worked just fine. which is great if you are just turning something on and then immediately off. a few days after the stove was delivered I intended on baking something for dinner, turned the oven on and received an error message, couldn't get it to turn on or work. it took them close to three weeks to make the initial repair. I used the oven one time since being repaired (it's been too hot to use it all that much) and it worked. went to use it again and it won't turn on and gives the same error message from the previous issue they supposedly fixed. this place sells you broken appliances with a zero return policy. should have known better! read more

I read a pretty negative review over on citysearch the other day -- otherwise this place gets a gold star in my book. I bought a house that did not come with a washer and dryer. I went here looking to not spend a fortune on a new-ish machine. And I found it! For under $300 I got a set that looked brand-new with a WARRANTY even though it was refurbished. They delivered FOR FREE and when my set arrived, it was discovered that I did not have an exhaust for the dryer, so one of the workers came back on a Sunday (he must have known I was desperate to wash my clothes) and installed one for me for $50-- he even got all the parts for me at Home Depot before coming over. How many businesses can you say that about? Plus, I've had NO problems since I bought the machines last year, but if I did, they'll do the repairs for an affordable price and guarantee the work for 90 days. Double awesome! read more

Then I worried that I was just getting sucked in because it was cute and maybe I should price compare. Well, they really do have competitive prices compared with the other used appliance stores. Plus they deliver and set up for free. And everything comes with a 3 month warranty. You know they have fixed them up and cleaned them up so that you don't buy some lemon off of craigslist. A couple of years ago, my kitchen stove went kaput. It was an old General Electric stove with cool metal trim- and I loved it! Being unemployed, my folks very kindly offered to buy a new one for me- but they when I asked if they would just pay to have the one I liked fixed they said, "no way!!" So I had the choice- either get a new stove for free that totally lacked any charm and that I'd probably hate or bite the bullet and pay myself to have my cute lil' stove fixed. I had Community Appliances send out a repair man and without breaking me, he fixed my freakin' stove!! I can't believe he even had the part that it needed!! Now my cool old fridge is on the blink. The freezer doesn't work. Has it lost refrigerant? Is there a fuse out? Is it the thermostat? Hell, I don't know- but Community Appliances is sending a repair man to me and if it can be fixed, it will be soon! These people are so great. Bought a refrigerator here a few weeks ago and was impressed with the staff and showroom. Meticulously clean environment, well stocked and efficient staff at the desk. When the ice maker quit working the repair person arrived exactly on time and we are rurally located. In 45 minutes he had replaced the water line that had only disconnected from the unit and left without a fee, noting that it was completely under the 6 month warranty. We had a washer that was throwing water out of the tub and leaking on to the floor. We called Community who explained the service call policy and we agreed and got the process started. The technician arrived the next day and determined that the pump was not discharging water and that the motor was overheating and shutting down. He had to take the washer back to the shop for repair because it was full of water and the pump needed to be removed for inspection, which would have made a flood in our utility room. Two days later, the problem, which was string material clogging the pump, was fixed and the washer returned. The cost was reasonable and the service was great. I'll be sharing this experience with my friends with a highest possible recommendation. John L. read more
