We made a reservation for four and had a lovely experience here. Their menu is small, but changes extremely frequently so you don't get tired of getting the same dishes over and over again. When you walk in this restaurant, you feel like you're in NY, not CT, which is pretty cool. We started off with some pricey drinks that I wasn't all that fond of, but the food definitely made up for any shortfall of alcoholic concoctions. We tried the appetizers of bread, bucatini (one of the highlights of the night) and Swedish meatballs. Everything was delicious but the bucatini with truffles just totally stole the show. For the main course, I had the NY strip, 2 people tried the Scallops, and the other had the duck. Everyone was extremely pleased with their food. The NY Strip was nothing short of amazing, and although I was already getting super full, I knew I wasn't leaving anything on my plate! I really liked the compote that came with the steak and the combo of arugula with green beans. Dessert was good, too. We got the chocolate cake, sorbet, and the creme brûlée. The creme brûlée was definitely my favorite, but the chocolate cake wasn't too far behind. The service was pretty good. No small talk, just straight to the point. Food took a while to come out, but it was a good break in between the courses. I would def come here again. Food is absolutely worth the value. I came here for my birthday dinner, excited about the menu and to try their selection of wines. I got through my first glass of wine and put in my food order then was ignored for 20+ minutes with an empty glass in front of me. Finally the manager, I think, took notice and said something to her, to which they both looked at me, then she carried on again without saying anything. When the manager came out with the food I asked for it to be placed in a to-go container and for the check. I suppose I'll eat my birthday dinner at home, but at least I have wine there... read more

We came here during Covid pandemic and was seated outdoor in the backyard. There was social distancing and people were all wearing masks when they are not at their tables. The food was delicious. They have several vegetarian options. I liked the soup, the burger and the peach cobbler dessert. The menu is seasonal which I love. I'd recommend this place if you are in the area. read more

This is a tough review for me to write in all honesty. First of all, I want to say that the place itself is really pretty inside. It's modern, updated, sophisticated. You need a reservation to dine here which is not a problem most of the time. We had a reservation this past weekend. It was our first visit and we had high hopes.. thinking it would be a 'regular' in our rotation of favorites. This is sadly not the case for several reasons. The food, its quality, its taste, its preparation and attention to detail were really good- delicious in fact. My concern when we first sat down was the very limited, and very expensive choices. This restaurant provides nothing complimentary. The bread was an up charge. The salads were a second course. The main dish offerings were extremely limited- we had to choose from a steak for two meal for $110, a duck entree, a seafood (prawns maybe?) entree, and a roasted fennel entree... yes.. the entree was roasted fennel. For someone who doesn't eat red meat or game meats, and who is allergic to shellfish, I had no choice but to order the fennel. Again. The dishes are truly expertly prepared here. No question of that. But the extremely limited choices, the prices on their menu items, and the fact that the clientele here is not the very sociable, warm fuzzy kind, nor is the staff, I don't think we will be likely to return. read more

We unfortunately weren't impressed with our meal or the service here. We ordered the rolls, heirloom tomato salad, corn bisque, homemade pasta, duck confit, and lobster. For dessert we had the chocolate creme. It was our first time visiting, I had been wanting to try CT for a while. The menu and ingredients all sounded complex and interesting; the inside is beautiful, and I expected service that matched. Our server was curt and really didn't make much convo at all, even when I shared that it was our first time and we were hoping to try many of the dishes. We honestly felt like we were bothering her. Now on to the food. The bread was the best thing we ate. The honey and cardamom was delicious. I don't think it's a good sign when the bread was your favorite thing. The heirloom tomato salad was fine and not memorable. Heirloom tomatoes are so beautiful but this salad made them ugly. It needed sea salt. The corn bisque was really flavorful and delicious but the pickled shrimp in it weren't necessary. They were dry and didn't need to be there. The duck confit had great flavor (think of a Thai duck salad) but the duck was dry and overcooked not what you would expect for a confit or a $250+ dinner. The homemade pasta was also fine, just OK. The plating left a lot to be desired (see pic). The lobster was probably our favorite after the bread and the corn bisque, but also kind of strange. Their was a soggy succotash and the whole plate was cold. Was it supposed to be cold? No, I don't think so. The purple potatoes were brownish after soaking in the sauce. Why not make them crispy and add some texture? The chocolate creme was delicious and the cocktails were very good. Based on this visit, I wouldn't be back. read more

We ordered a little bit of everything, they were able to accommodate me being gluten free. My fiancé said the rolls were some of the best he's ever eaten and he's a tough critic. I was looking forward to our first visit and had expected to have a wonderful meal with attentive service but was very let down. We were not welcomed in a friendly manner for our reservation at 8 pm last night - we stood at the doorway for a few minutes really having no idea what to do- no one seemed to care and there was no hostess to ask. Eventually I asked a bartender and we were told to sit at the bar while she found the hostess. The restaurant is small/cozy, and we were seated at a small table by the door that shook every time someone walked in or out. Service was very slow and not nearly attentive enough for a restaurant at this price point - they seemed overwhelmed. We were sitting so uncomfortably close to the person at the next table (a four top that had six seated at it) that it was impossible for our server to stand between tables. The timing wasn't right on the entrees- my bucatini, though delicious, arrived cold; my husband's Korean beef was fabulous and he really enjoyed it. They packed in too many customers for the staff they had, water was not refilled, no one - not once- checked to see if our food was ok or if we needed anything. Our servers were amiable but frenzied; I wouldn't recommend going on a Friday or Saturday because last night they tried to feed more people than they had space or staff for, and as a result our experience was sub par. read more

We have dined at CT before and have enjoyed it. The prices are high, but the staff is very helpful and accommodating, and usually the food is good. We dined there tonight, on Monday, for hamburger night, expecting a great hamburger. Unfortunately this was not the case. My medium rare hamburger came out well done. I got a bacon burger, two strips of nice thick bacon....uncooked. I also requested caramelized onions, instead an ice cream scoop of onion goo. To be fair, the fingerling potatoes were good, but a $30 hamburger that was inedible was not....3 stars is a gift. Perhaps the chef is unfamiliar with simple food. We will go back and give it another try, but honestly, at these prices, Arethusa Restaurant, just up the road, is better bet! read more

We have been eyeing this restaurant for a very long time! The reviews on its seasonal menu and expert cocktails had us hooked! The decor and presentation is thoughtful and calming. The menu was well thought out and purposeful. Some of the highlights: Rhode Island wild mushrooms (if you don't like mushrooms you should still try this because it will change your mind) shrimp and scallop ceviche and the smoked heritage pork chop which was award worthy. The cocktails were fun and paired well with the menu. Lastly, try the bread starter their house made smoked butter will make you wish you had an endless amount of vessels to put it on, no joke. This joint gets two out of five for the service. Very inconsistent. All i can alude to is the fact that we were never offered drinks until i asked for a glass of wine then, after the wine was poured, we never received wine service. Or water service for that matter - given the pricing of this place, I expect them to keep me thirst quaffed. I had to ask for my second glass of wine. It was strange that they wiped the table in between courses and failed in all other areas of service. Not once were we asked if there was anything else that we needed. The server asked us if we wanted a second bottle of wine when we were almost done with our meal. Entree service. 4/5 entrees arrive with no explanation as to when the fifth shall arrive. This might have been understandable had an explanation been proffered. I and one other diner send our food back to be kept warm while the lonesome member's food is prepared. At this point the server returns to explain that our entree-less diner's plate had a mishap and needs to be redone. Several minutes later all entrees are served. The ten-top next to us was obviously the focus of the kitchen as one of the chefs kept coming out to kiss one of the diners. At nearly $50/diner, i expect more and chalk this up to not worthy of a return trip. Community Table imbued a general sense of indifference. Bottom line, for the money, there are several places more worthy of your dough, starting with Docs, West Street Grill, Bantam Inn, Boulders, Hopkins Inn or RSVP. The food? Considering that we passed this phase of farm to table about five years ago, I'm simply going to say it was average. Who am I to judge considering this guy has been written up as a runner up for best new restaurant and being most interesting new chef. Sorry, I just don't think that the creativity is all that spectacular. Food can be as fresh as you want but it is how it is dressed that matters, or not in some cases. The Roasted paprika, smoked whiting, kale, tomato, celery soup with sliced green onions was fine. It simply and quite frankly lacked any coherence. There were too many ingredients that are all themselves "unique" to be mixed together to make it anything more than a warm tomato soup. You can make this at home by throwing some fresh veggies into a pot and simmering for a while. Entrees, well, you've read the experience. My chicken leg was actually pretty good. Malheureusement, ce las ce n'a fait pas. With a nicely salted and peppered crispy skin the meat was tender and not dry. The asparagus was new and crisp. Other than that, the flounder was the winner while the deux steak frites were good. Un peux de chocolate au maison est arrive au fin. Bien, mais trop tard. This is how i deal with a bad meal. Do my best to tolerate the place, leave a 20% tip, write it up on Yelp and don't return. Came to CT to celebrate my and my fiancé's birthdays with my family. As someone who's lived in Manhattan, Hollywood, and San Francisco, and dined in some of the country's finest, I was delighted to find such an exquisite gem of a restaurant tucked away in rural Connecticut. The space is lovely, the service warm, inviting, impeccable - the food expertly prepared with a variety of options for vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters alike. The wine list was extensive and thoughtfully curated, the cocktails were perfect. Everything we ordered was plated and presented beautifully. The dishes were creative yet classic, flavors were on point and portrayed a delicate balance of rustic fine dining, showcasing local in-season fare. Pricing was appropriate and felt reasonable given the quality of the food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. Decided to branch out beyond hartford county for an anniversary dinner with my fiancé. Im a massive lover of any cuisine in the farm-to-table category, and a total foodie. After finding this restaurant thru CTeats Instagram page, and cross checking reviews thru open table and yelp (all amazing reviews!) I knew the hour long drive from WH would be worth it. Long story short IT WAS, and Im planning my next visit asap. The decor is simply beautiful, modern, streamlined, but with flair such as the sheep pelts that cover many chairs making this restaurant so chic and cozy. Romantic to say the least. Their staff is incredibly professional, personable, and warmly welcoming from beginning to end. Even the food runners were able to comment on what was being served and additional explanations. Our waiter had the perfect balance of on-point attentiveness, while giving us our space to enjoy our meal and never felt he was hovering as it wasn't a jam packed night. The charcuterie tray was great, I always appreciate a mix and match ordering format of cheese and meat offerings. It was ample portions compared to other restaurants of similar caliber. I ordered the duck for an entree, my fiancé the pork pressee, and we shared the brussels w/bacon. Desert was the beer/bread pudding with berries, as well as another desert provided on the house with "Happy Anniversary" scrolled in sauce. I was so pleased with the food as well as service and ambiance, I wish I could give more stars. I wont go into detail on the food as you must experience for yourself. Just know it is amazing! Wow, lots of filtered and suspect reviews for this place! That always throws me off a bit. Anyway, I went here for a celebratory dinner, and I have to admit that I was a little shocked by the prices. Especially when I saw the amount of food that was served for said prices. And some of the food was great, but some was not. The only thing that really impressed me was that the chef did an excellent job cooking the chicken that I ordered. It's probably the first time I've eaten the skin on a chicken breast in years; it was that crispy and well seasoned. For vegetarians, the night that we were there, there was only one vegetarian entree. I'm not sure if they could even accomodate vegan diners. The server described the vegetarian entree as whatever the chef feels like putting on the plate. Two of the members of our party ordered that, and it was slightly different for each of them. It looked like a collection of just about every entree side dish they were serving that night. For a place that focuses so heavily on local produce, I was surprised that they weren't more accomodating. It's BYOB, but the corkage fee is $15. That's per bottle! Unless you are bringing very special or expensive wine, you might want to just order from their menu. Bottom line: this place was 3 stars for me. A-OK, but I'd try other restaurants in the area before going back. read more

This unassuming restaurant tucked away in the hills of Northern Connecticut serves up some of the finest food in New England and undoubtedly deserves a Michelin star or two. In every way, from beginning to end, my girlfriend and I were delighted by this restaurant. That is, in every way except the restaurant's exterior, which at first glance may not bespeak a five-star dining experience. I think this was mostly due to the fact they were doing a lot of construction at the time. However, once you enter this unlikely little white building you enter a wonderland of food and finery. The interior is muted but elegant, with deep grey styling set off by bright bursts of colorful wallpaper and dark wood accents. The seats even have these cool lambskins draped over the backs. As for food, wow. My girlfriend and I seriously could not decide which dish we liked more over every single course. A cuttlefish appetizer that was rich and creamy or a salad of bright, picked vegetables. Two different fish dishes in distinctive and really stunning presentations wowed us for our mains and for dessert, a warm cinnamon spice cake with buttermilk ice cream and a chocolate pot de creme were both absolutely satisfying and perfectly balanced. Oh yes, so at the end they give you a few pieces of this chocolate that they make in house. It is like white and milk chocolate mixed in a marble pattern and interspersed with bits of toasted almond bits. It is the best chocolate bark I have ever had in my life. It really is. I need to buy large amounts of this or I will start crying when I wake up in the morning. The service was perfect. The food was perfect. This is, as of this moment, pretty much the best food I have had in the state of Connecticut. I really just want to commend the chef if he is reading this and strongly suggest all others to head to this absolutely awesome restaurant. read more

This is simply a treasure. We have been coming to the area ( and have a home here) for more than 30 years. CT is simply the best restaurant for many, many miles. The quality of each dish, the friendly professional service, excellent wines, simple, cheerful and friendly atmosphere, makes this a must. I love their Hush Puppies, their roasted chicken, the duck, and can keep one scrolling down the menu, without finding anything I don't like. The bar is a great place to eat. I have an unwritten Yelp rule that I review once I've dined on - at minimum - three occasions. Tonight marked thrice at Community Table and it happened to be our favorite of these occasions. BRAVO to the hostess; an absolutely sweet young lady that went out of her way to seat us on a busy Saturday night when the bar was full. Rather than curtly dismiss this pair of latecomers, she graciously juggled her reservations to seat us in the new bar room and assure us that we relax and enjoy our time. Beautiful, warm and soothing atmosphere. Love the grey flannel cushioned banquets and the fur pelts draped on the chairs. On this 4 degree winter night, it was like snuggling in your own living room. Perfect lighting, curious decor and I can't help but mention - great soundtrack tonight. (This girl loves hearing vintage Cure with her Cote d'Auxerre...) Friendly, attentive and unobtrusive service. The restaurant was well staffed so that our server could interact with us often, promptly and with a lighthearted smile that many locales have forgotten is important. The bread was SO FRESH. A crisp crust with spongey multigrain served with homemade butter that was seriously worth the additional cost for the second basket. My husband and I then shared the kale & beet salad which was interspersed with soft butter lettuce which brought a delicate balance to the plate, very good. For dinner, I had the turbot which was dressed in a yummy miso honey glaze accompanied by chanterelle mushrooms and sun choke purée. The chef did a fine job of cooking the turbot through as requested. The hubs enjoyed pappardelle with guanciale. As we cure Italian meats for a living, he has a highly selective palate with regards to charcuterie and he was very happy with the quality of the guanciale which can be fatty. Excellent homemade pasta cooked to the exact texture that he prefers. After a pot of unfortunate French pressed coffee (why so weak?) we were resolved by the dessert course. He chose the chocolate beet cake with mascarpone gelato and I opted for the thyme ice cream. LOVED the ice cream; a real standout in a region famous for its homemade gourmet ice cream. And if all of this wasn't wonderful enough a plate of homemade chocolate bark with black salt was served with the check. We called at last minute to see if they had a table for 5 available on a Saturday night, since our table was given away at another local restaurant. They were very accommodating and sat us within 10 minutes! (though I do not recommend do this since they are a small restaurant - reservations are always the best option) They know what they are doing- the ambiance was perfect, the appetizers were spot on (we picked 3 out of the 5 options) it was soooo difficult to pick only one plate on the menu (5 entrée options) we decided to order one of each entrée and share- it was divine eating. Surprising to us - the vegetarian option was a top favorite entrée for most of the table. But every dish was perfectly executed - no additional seasoning needed in any of the dishes, they all came out warm and the portion sizes were just right. Our server was very informative on all our questions from wine to asking about the meals & dessert. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back to see what will be on the menu. read more

I've been to Community Table three times for brunch, and each experience has been nothing short of delightful. I found out that New York restauranteur Danny Meyer (of Shake Shack fame) listed Community Table as his third favorite dining experience in 2011 (topped only by restaurants in France and England), and I knew I had to try it for myself, seeing as it's only fifteen minutes from where I grew up. The first time I went, my mom ordered thick brioche french toast, and she enjoyed it so much that she ended up ordering it again both times we returned. Being a sucker for anything covered in a runny yolk, I ordered the braised short ribs over root vegetables and topped with a poached egg. The meat was fall off the bone tender, and the perfectly cooked egg created a delicious sauce of its own when it coated the vegetables. Their menu changes constantly, as they try to use whatever is in season, so I haven't seen the short ribs on the menu since. That said, my other two meals were superb in their own right. I ordered a vegetable frittata the second time I went, and most recently, I had their corned beef and root vegetable hash, again, topped with a perfectly runny poached egg. The food has been top notch each and every time I've gone, but I also have to put in a good word for the service. The waitstaff is friendly, helpful, and accommodating, and they begin by asking if anyone at the table has any allergies or restrictions they should take note of. One time, we had to wait for a table a little longer than we were told (it wasn't even a big deal!) and they served us complimentary sparkling wine and homemade birch beer. The atmosphere is airy but cozy, and while the food is upscale, the ambiance is comfortable and homey. I can't wait to go back! read more

A delicious farm to table experience from start to finish! We were warmly greeted by the staff as we entered the restaurant. Our table is located in the bar section of the restaurant which had a Scandinavian feel. (The sheepskins on the back of the chairs were an amusing touch to make the chair backs more comfy) I had the mixed greens with peaches. The balance of flavors and textures, especially when I tasted the first peach, were "mmmm" sound inducing. My husband had the heirloom tomato salad with burrata and enjoyed every bite. For our entrees I tried the amberjack fish and he had the duck. More delicious blends of flavors. Perhaps a little overdone on the cabbage like accompaniments but all in all a good meal. Fish was very well prepared. My husband loved the duck. For dessert....the simple but lovely peach crisp. It is served in a hot mini skillet pan. So tasty we had a hard time waiting til it was cool enough to eat. I appreciated that they didn't over sweeten the fruit before putting on the crunchy sweet crumble. Service was warm and accommodating. They ask about food allergies up front and make accommodations and suggestions to help. read more
