Cane to have an early dinner with my beautiful wife before we head out to go catch a concert. This was the first time for my wife and i hadn't been here in a while so was a bit leery hoping the food was as good as i remember. Well I'm glad to say it was delicious! My wife ordered the Veal Parmigiano and i had the Green Chile Chicken Lasagna. My wife's plate was not skimpy on the portions and it was very yummy. She raved about the tomato sauce and the lil sample she gave me was yummyy..My lasagna was oh so delicious. The green Chile cream sauce was scrumptious and my wife enjoyed that also. The perfect topper was the bread pudding with ice cream. The pudding came out nice and warm and melted the vanilla ice cream perfectly. I just don't get it! I've had lots of Italian at lots of places and to see a great locally owned place like Como's get a bad rap and places like Olive Garden get away scott-free makes me really doubt El Paso's credibility as anything but a place for super bummy folks to hang out. I mean... Greasy, nasty, soaked-soup-tacos get five stars but not Como's? Anyway... The food is ALWAYS good, I've gone so many times out of living here in El Paso it'd be super difficult to count all of them but I've never had a bad experience there. Whether it's just with my wife or going with the whole family. They are a bit slow on the service side but I aways find it to be totally worth it. A couple of completely overly picky people gave this place one-star and that's ridiculous because there are so many worse places that deserve it, so many awful chain restaurants and crappy fast food joints to give one star to. Why give it to a place that really does do a good job? The worst part is people knocking off stars for the interior? Who cares if the food is good, maybe I'm being to passable but I don't think so... I recommend the clam and garlic pizza, it's amazing. They are VERY expensive though, that's one thing I can agree with. Really though, their calzones are crispy, flaky and golden - delicious and just the right amount of combinations of flavor. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The only good thing about this place was the server. He was nice and kept a good eye on us. The ambiance is very dark, kind of like a nightclub or a bar. Upon arrival we ordered our drinks. I saw our server coming towards us with a bowl and I expected maybe some bread and some dipping oil of some sort....wrong! We got saltine crackers and some sort of low quality sliced cheese. I ordered the chicken picatta and the sauce was broken and oily with a very strong aftertaste. I ate about half of it cause I was starving. My party of 3 was very unimpressed with their meals We had 3 dishes, 2 of us had a glass of wine and one of us had water. $80.00 would have been no problem if we would have been served some nice bread and if the food was good but none of us were happy with the flavors of our food and the saltine crackers to start our meal. The west side of El Paso is known for its variety in food choices and restaurants. Even though I've lived in El Paso all my life, I don't usually come to the West Side to eat. Many of my friends have recommended Como's. I decided to give it a shot and go for lunch there last week. The restaurant is located on a prime area in Mesa St El Paso. As I went into the restaurant I was welcomed by the main dining area. I wasn't welcomed right away and the lighting was very dim. As far as the food the deals during lunch are great and worth going for. The food was delicious and well portioned. Overall I didn't give it a 5 due to our waitress not having the best of service and only came by to ask how we were doing once. Refills were far and few in between. I would definitely give this place a try again maybe for dinner see if the service is different. read more

We ordered the combination Spaghetti, lazana, manicotti, & rigatoni..... We ask to substitute the rigatoni for another manicotti. The waiter said no problem. We got our meal & my boys said where's the manicotti? We told the waiter & he brought us all a half of a piece of manicotti.....& were charge for it. What's up with that???? My husband asked for meat balls on his spaghetti with meat sauce. Didn't get it & was charged for it....... Food was good but just makes you wonder about the cook... read more

Don't even bother. Sorry but I don't believe that good quality Italian food should be DROWNED in sauce. Pasta should be cooked to al dente unless otherwise requested and definitely NOT mushy. The pasta in itself should have a mild but definable flavor and not flat and bland the way it is at Como's. Perhaps that's why they drowned it in sauce but all that accomplished was accentuating the flavorless marinara. My rating is based solely on the food quality and taste based on the price. The marinara sauce wasn't anything worth mentioning but the fact that there was so much in all of our plates that we could barely see the pasta is. As far as El Pasoans not knowing the difference from good and bad Italian cuisine....well, I'm transplanted from out of state and have visited my fair share of Italian restaurants...this one scores pretty low in my opinion. read more

This would be the last place I would go to eat. We went there this year (2009), and two of us in our party got food poisoning. I reported them to the Dept. of Health and they did a followup visit to the place and they failed the inspection. Also, this wasn't the first time they failed an inspection. Best mom-and-pop Italian in the city. I've been eating at this place for as long as I can remember. It's the only place in town that serves my favorite Italian dish. I always bring out-of-town guests for a bite and the prices are affordable. Only downer is that it's on the west side. read more

The service was great. The drinks came out quick. The attention on the staff was on point. As for the food, it was not very good at all. The pizza was very bland with no sauce. The spaghetti had nothing that really stood out. There was way too much sauce for the noodles, and their sauce was bland. Even their garlic bread was cheaply put together. This place is a hidden gem! Authentic, fresh, Italian food. We've been here twice already ( my husband comes often during lunchtime with his co-workers), and each time the food AND service is spectacular. I noticed that this place does not have many reviews, but my guess is that it's because a lot of the clientele are older folks (i.e. probably not on Yelp). This place is good though! Como's was my friend Dee Anne's favorite restaurant. I like to go to Como's because of Dee Anne. She always got the rigatoni. I love their salads and bread and their food. But over the last three years I have developed a soy allergy. Como's has a sign that they use high quality cooking oil and that is not true. They use soybean oil. The only thing I was able to order recently was pasta primavera. While it was my first time eating noodles and veggies there, it was pretty good but I would rather have had the rigatoni or something more indulgent. So Como's if you are reading this, use olive oil or canola, PLEASE, I beg you!! read more

I ordered Como's to go. The food was actually pretty good. It was better than a lot of local Italian places I have visited. I ordered the fried mushrooms as an appetizer, chicken fettuccine alfredo with a caesar salad, and tiramisu. The mushrooms were good, even for delivery. They were a little oily but not so much so that I wouldn't eat them again. The fettuccine was amazing, some of the best sauce and noodles I have had in a long time.I didn't care too much for the chicken, it wasn't as flavorful as the sauce. The salad was the only thing I didn't like, it could have been because it was delivery and not at the place. The tiramisu was just great. I would definitely go back there and try it in person and order it for delivery again. read more

First time I have eaten here even though I live near by. For me, it is always the first impression that sets the mood and the young man that sat us was very stoic and unfriendly. Apparently this was standard for the staff as our waiter was the same, but I guess I am used to servers being out going or engaging with a customer. We reviewed the menu a bit and I decided on the Manicotti and my partner picked the Fettuccine Alfredo. The salad was basic but my partner asked for the creamy italian dressing. Unknown to us, they mix in blue cheese to turn the italian dressing creaming which changes the entire flavor of "italian dressing". He sent it back and asked for regular italian. My partner was happy with his Fettuccine. My Manicotti came out with three completely covered in sauce (I commented "look, italian enchiladas" to my partner). While I am a big fan of marinara sauce, this one immediately reminded me of something I would buy off the shelf at Albertsons (think Ragu). I added a good amount of red pepper, parmesan and black pepper to give it flavor. I will admit I did finish it as I was very hungry and did enjoy the bread that was served with the meal but was not overwhelmed with the experience. Our waiter took my plate and brought my partner a box for what he didn't finish but neglected to ask if we wanted dessert. I had thought about the tiramisu when ordering but didn't (and in all honestly not sure if I would have ordered it had he asked as desserts are an impulse thing for me) Overall, food was fine but mine lacked some flavor. The reason I give 3 stars is that when I go to what is considered a nice sit down dinner I like to enjoy the overall experience which includes the service. So even if I liked the food, if I didn't like the experience then it isn't a pleasant meal. Maybe we will go back down in the future but right now my only memory of the place is "eh". PS... when a customer leaves and three waiters/hosts are standing right by the door, it is really a good idea for the staff to say "Thank you, good night" and not ignore the customer as they walk by. This place is horrible! Have ate here multiple times, and been disappointed every time. First of all the marinara sauce is just chef boyardee sauce straight out of the can. The selection is terrible including the beer, then when you pick something on the menu they are pretty much guaranteed not to have it. The service in the restaurant is beyond terrible. Then we have ordered spaghetti with meatballs to go and the meat tasted like dog food in chef boyardee sauce. On top of everything else the one thing on the menu I've found that I like, the Italian sub, which was actually really good, they refuse to serve any sandwiches past 3pm??? I am out of town and the person I was staying with recommended Como's saying they liked the food so we decided to go. The food here was pretty decent. With anything you order you get a small starter salad. It's basically a couple pieces of lettuce, one tomato slice, and olives and garbanzo beans? I thought the garbanzo beans were interesting choice. I ordered a very basic spaghetti with tomatoes, garlic, and mushrooms. There was probably more vegetables than pasta, but that's alright. They also provide garlic bread. The other person I was with got spinach tortellini and enjoyed it. I think the worst part about this place was the service. Upon getting seated it was quite clear there wasn't a clear establishment on who our server was. Multiple people would come up to our table and wouldn't communicate with each other. The first thing that happened was that I had the wine menu opened on top of my menu and it was taken from me. There wasn't a question as to whether they should, it was just taken. Secondly, I dropped my fork and my napkin and I asked for a new one as we were ordering. After 20 minutes, I still didn't receive any and asked the server refilling my water if they could please give me a new napkin and fork. He brought me a fork wrapped in a paper napkin. As he was placing it down he, very quietly, said "You should've said so sooner ma'am" and walked away quickly. The other server came after 5 minutes saying "I forgot to bring your things" and set them down quickly and walking away. I don't know if it was because it was almost closing time or what but I've never experienced service like this. I'm usually not one to complain because I am also a server so I understand but this is something I really don't understand as the staff were blatantly rude. Took my mom here today for her birthday and as always, Como's doesn't disappoint! She ordered the orange roughy and it was light, flaky, and perfectly cooked. It wasn't overly-buttered or garlicky. I had the baked ravioli and it was meaty and moist. Even the salads tasted very fresh and had a lot of ingredients. All the food had amazing flavor! They even gave my mom a free piece of cheesecake because it was her birthday. Great service, great food: this is truly the best of El Paso! read more

They are not joking when they say number one Italian restaurant. I don't live in town anymore so when I fly in I have to go there at least once. The pizza is the best. Disgusting slop that I would not feed to my worst enemy. Not to mention the 'mean' waitress, and almost being told what I will have and how it will be served. When first seated you are given saltine crackers with thinly sliced mozzarella, they bring buttered toast, with meal. I went to this place for my wife's bday dinner with friends. Although we were kind of doubting the place cause of the exterior looks, we decided to give it a chance. When we walked in it felt like we had left El Paso. The people were attentive but not overwhelming. And the food was amazing. From the simplest spaghetti with meatballs to the juicy steak that was cooked just right. Although my tab was a bit more than what I expected, I will make sure I go to this place again. read more

Como's is a throw back--and in a really bad way--to the good old days. Some places can pull off staying old school, but everything about Como's screams "update me". I think that the average age of the customer tells a lot about a restaurant. An average age over 65 usually means a place is living in the past or living off its past (or it's a cafeteria). Como's used to be one of my favorites (in the '70's). It probably is as good now as it was then. Problem is, tastes change, Como's doesn't. read more
