My wife and I have been going to compadres for about 2 years now. Anytime we have family come up we take them there and do a lot of our get togethers for birthdays, anniversaries, etc here. Anyway, Cassie is an amazing employee. She's always quick to greet us and she knows our orders and is a really good person. We come back because we love your food and staff, but Cassie is usually our server and is always amazing. I recommend this place to everyone i see. Their outdoor patio is really accommodating as well, as we have a 3 month old son and the outdoor tables are big enough to put his car seat in a chair next to us. Well, this was a hidden gem. On my way from the brothel to a location scout for a music video, and stumbled upon this spot after taking a wrong turn. Certainly, it turned out to be one of the best wrong turns, that I have taken. Yummy food, and great margaritas. read more

Astonishingly forgettable. When we walked in the door, there were several tables that were empty, but the wait-staff ignored us for 20 minutes. They finally seated us and it was at least another 15 minutes before our waitress came to take our order. Then it was another 40 minutes before they finally brought us our food. If that wasn't bad enough, I took a bite of my chili Rellano, and it tasted like nothing! How could a chili pepper smothered in cheese and salsa have no flavor? It was a mystery. You can get a better chili Rellano in the frozen food section at Trader Joe's. Then I tried my beef taco, and was surprised to find out that it tasted like your mom could have it made at home. Unseasoned ground beef with grated cheese and chopped lettuce. The shredded beef taco was no different. I guess, if you had never had Mexican food anywhere else, including Taco Bell, you might like this food. But at least a Taco Bell taco has some flavor. My wife ordered the shredded beef mini-tostada ($10.95) which was about the size of a small saucer, and which would sell for $4 or $5 anywhere else. She liked it. So in the end, I gave the restaurant two stars. The food was healthy, there was nothing wrong with it, other than the fact that it wasn't Mexican food and lacked all imagination. The larger problem with this place is the wait-staff. They are terrific at ignoring you, walking right by your table and not seeing you at all. Walking by the entry at the front of the restaurant where you wait to be seated and not seeing you at all. We came here after reading all the five star reviews, but I have to think they were all drinking margaritas. There's no other explanation that I can imagine! This place has good food and the restaurant has a very old fashioned and authentic feel to it. But unfortunately one of the servers was extremely rude and made some very ugly gestures and my wife and I. We ordered some food and Togo and we were really hungry so we decided to eat on the front patio. One server went extremely above and beyond and came outside and asked if we were okay. She was a short Mexican girl. Then a tall white lady with blonde hair, who is the oldest server by far, came out to start closing the front patio. She stared at my family and I multiple times with disgusting looks. Then I went inside to ask if there was a trash and she just snatches the bag and walks away and doesn't say anything. So rude!!!! SO WHAT IF IM NOT TIPPING YOU! If there was people waiting for tables i would understand. But the front patio was empty. I cleaned after myself and even if I didn't, so what, do your job. If you don't like your job you can go home or go find another line of work. People don't deserve to be treated like that just because they're not putting money in your broke ass pockets. Looks can be deceiving. This tiny, out of the way place has hidden delights inside. The first time we went we were skeptical because of it's size. Don't let that stop you from enjoying the great food and service. My favorite is the super tostada! Fresh, delicious and perfectly combined with a huge boat load of meat. (I love the pork). My husband loves the fish tacos. Their chili rellenos are another favorite. The servers are so accommodating and friendly. I literally could eat there every day. I eat here several times a year. It it is a good example of what I call gringo Mex food. Way too much meat to be authentic rural Mexican It is plenty of food, well prepared, very lightly seasoned. Place is usually full by about 6 pm, so a lot of people must also think it's good food. This is not a fast food place, allow plenty of time for your food to be cooked. While, for the most part, I like their food I do not like their business practices. They do not advertise it but they have started charging a take out fee and just now the waitress kept the change from my order. When I asked about it she was surprised I wanted it. Now don't get me wrong. I tip over 20% and quibbling over 47 cents is trivial. However, she would have gotten a bigger tip if she hadn't kept it. It wouldn't have been that bad if they had kept us informed as to what was taking so long. Another party of 6 finally got tired of waiting and left, leaving their partially consumed drinks on the table. I had a pretty bad experience here last night.  I ordered an 'uno plato' (10.95) and chose a Chile rellano as my one item.  The header over the whole category says the entrees come with beans and rice and lists the choices of meat.  I asked for pork...I repeated my order twice as the waitress said she was new and not familiar with the menu yet.  We got our food and started eating and I noticed my Chile rellano didn't have any meat.  I told the waitress and she seemed confused and said she hadn't heard me say pork....She flustered around a bit and finally said they would make me another one with pork, but it would be a la carte.  Totally fine with me.  Someone else came out a little later with a full plate of food including the rice and beans and asked if it was for us.  I said they were supposed to be making a new Chile rellano for me, but I didn't think that was it since it was the whole meal and not a la carte.  She went back to the kitchen, but came back and said yes, it was for me.  Great!  The problem came when the waitress brought the check...I was there with 2 friends and we wanted the check split.  The waitress said "What, you want it split 3 ways?  Don't you have a calculator on your phone?  Just divide it by 3, that's what we do." We had to explain we wanted it split based on what each of us ordered.  I then asked her why my order amount (10.95) had been crossed out and changed to 13.95 on the bill.  She said that the chile rellano didn't come with meat and so she had to charge me the higher amount for something else (I forget what she called it).  I said "It says on the top, 'choice of meat' and my friend ordered the dos platos and both of her items included meat" (taco and enchilada I think-chosen from 'above' like the chile rellano is as the menu states)-she proceeded to argue with me that it said 'choicES of meat' (not choice of meat" as if that explained everything-I told her I didn't understand how that was different.  I said, "If it doesn't come with meat, your menu is very unclear because it doesn't say that".  She argued with me about it for a minute and then left-she came back with a menu and just sat down in our booth with us and said "Ok, let me talk to you about the menu for a minute" in a very defensive and argumentative way.  She said the chile rellano doesn't ever come with meat, so they had to charge me that higher price.  I was very frustrated at this point-she never gave a good enough reason to charge me more and there was never anything on the menu that said anything about the chile rellano not including meat.  Even if that was true, she should have mentioned it when I ordered or when I told her I didn't have meat and she went to get a new one made.  To not ever mention that she would be changing it to a higher price until I see it on the check is totally unprofessional and should be something they corrected, not argued with me about.  She was argumentative, rude, and unapologetic-she lost out on a tip from all 3 of us because of her behavior.  I will not be returning. read more

I have been here twice since moving to Dayton and both experiences have been awful. Nothing is "authentic" and to be honest everything my husband and I have ordered tastes like crap slapped on a plate. The price is too high for such horrible food. The first time I ordered the nachos with chicken. The chicken did not taste fresh. The second time, I ordered the chili rellano. My meal was very disappointing. I also ordered the sangria. Even that was so thick and sweet it tasted like children's cough syrup. I did not eat my meal or drink the sangria and the waitress seemed not to notice, I had to mention it to her. Also the waitress acted like she was on drugs. I am very upset to have wasted the money we have spent here and there is no consideration as to how we felt as customers or our experience. Curious how this place even stays in business. We will never go back. The 10 minute drive to Carson for a much better experience and fresher food isn't so bad now! read more

Now we do not have to drive all the way into Carson or Reno to get good Mexican food. They have take-out as well which is great so can always call to order on the way home and get home with a delicious meal. My wife and I stopped by for dinner and we were very disappointed. I ordered a chimichanga which should have been deep fried to a golden crisp. Instead, it came out a grayish beige. Soggy and lifeless. The cheese on top was cooked to a hard shell. Far too long in the microwave. I could not eat but a section from the inside. The owner was our waitress and from the moment we sat down, she was VERY rude. so rude that I won't be returning. I normally get flour tacos for the taco Tuesday special but according to her, they can't do that or I have to pay extra. And instead of her explaining nicely that they can't do that for the special she snaps that "apparently none of the waitresses listen to me, I'M the boss, not them" and "I don't care if they do flour for you normally but I'm not going to" great food, TERRIBLE service, especially from the owner. read more

After staying away for a few years while the owner got the menu back in order, we started frequenting Compadres again. Very up and down. When the waitress charged another customer's meal to our credit card (which was later straightened out) we still occasionally visited. But when they started offering "Taco Tuesday" as their special we found out that if you only order tacos, the waitress won't even look your way after serving you. No water refills, no ice tea refills, no asking how your meal is, just the check. The tacos are only worth $2 if you fill them with salsa anyway. Stay away. read more

We have been going to Compadres for quite a while now. We went last night and can't begin to tell you have incredibly disappointed we were . My wife and me both ordered the chicken fajitas. They have change the portion size. It was laughable. It looked like we got left overs. The bell peppers and onions were soggy just like when you take fajitas home and eat them the next day. They were $15 per plate and they were the worst fajitas we ever had. They just lost 2 local and loyal customers. Guess we have to drive to Carson for a decent plate of fajitas. read more

If they allowed zero stars I would give them zero. This owner is so unprofessional and actually argues with the guest. You can tell that she's very uneducated just by the way that she speaks to you. First of all they are WAY overpriced and second, they are very inconsistent with everything from portions, to toppings, to even pricing but the worst is that after I spent $20 on one order of nachos with extra sour cream, guacamole, and pico, they absolutely messed up, the waitress even admitted it was their fault because when she asked me on the phone, when I called the to-go order in, if I wanted it spicy or not. I said absolutely not because I am a huge wimp and I can't handle anything spicy. Well of course when I got my twenty dollar nachos home and took the first bite, my esophagus actually burned and I noticed that there was shredded jalapeños all over the nachos. I called and the waitress even checked with the cook and confirmed that it was their error. She said that the owner would call me back the following morning when she got in. I was apprehensive because this it the same owner that just got into a fight with me when I picked up the order because they have never charged me for pico sauce before and now they all of sudden wanted to charge me $1.75 for a little container of pico sauce. She actually put her hands on me when she was arguing with me. I absolutely cannot believe her lack of professionalism. The only reason they get business at all is because there isn't much choice in the way of Mexican food in Dayton. If a New Mexican restaurant opened in Dayton, I assure you Compadres would go out of business. She is so tight she also actually charges for the to-go containers in your to-go order, again the consistency issue doesn't make sense. If you were to eat there and then ask for a to-go container, you wouldn't get charged. Also, you could order as much salsa and pico sauce as you want with your nachos and not get charged but if you want it with your to-go nachos, you'll get charged. Needless to say the owner never called me (surprise surprise). I have since called back everyday, six times (I think she was hoping that I'd eventually forget about it and she could then hang on tight fistedly to my twenty dollars. I finally reached her on day seven when she answered the phone. She literally argued with me the entire phone call and let her lack of education shine through ever so brightly until she finally hung up on me. I am boycotting that ridiculously run and overpriced place and I suggest that you do the same. She has no clue what customer service is. read more
