The service was good. I ordered ahead on the app a pumpkin bread with icing to go. This location is huge and busy! Best to order in advance and pick up. It took 15 minutes from order placed to order completion. The staff were friendly. I'd come back, especially with all the ample seating and free Wifi. There is a nearby lot you could park at or opt for street parking.

This cafe is the best hangout place on this side of town. It's even better when you can find a table and chair! I got here right at 10am for my daily cappuccino and the service was awesome as usual, but finding a place to sit and chill wasn't so easy. This place is huge compared to some of their other places in the city, but still its usually jam packed led in the mornings. Soon enough though I found a spot at the cafe bar and proceeded to open my laptop and check emails. It's really chill here, and everyone here is super nice. On days when it's not so hot and humid, it's also fun to take a seat outside. They also make a kicking expresso, and their regular coffee is also good.

This is my second visit to this Compass Coffee. Honestly I was already very much looking forward to make this stop. It is very convenient for me that they stay open until 6 pm as I have much writing to do after work. The open area inside is very spacious for a coffee shop and there is plenty of seating. Other patrons seem to be taking advantage of the ambience and thus they are taking time reading or using their laptops while delicious coffee is enjoyed. I did not have to wait long in line after stepping in. The young woman who took my order for an iced quad breve mocha was very kind and polite and professional. The coffee is very good here and I also see that they offer a nice selection of pastries. The restrooms are clean as well! I'll be coming back for certain.

I frequently stop at the Spring Valley location which has good people, good coffee, good service, and good ambiance. In addition to yummy treats for adults and children, the store always has a supply of biscuits for dogs at the counter. There are dogs parked outside the store every day while their mum or dad gets coffee. I take the biscuits to go as our dogs are at home.

The Almond Butter Latte is a must have! I have never been able to drink any coffee without any sweetener - until I met the Almond Butter Latte at Compass. So. Good!! I also enjoy the cold brews and matcha latte but the almond butter latte is in a class of its own. The baristas and staff are so friendly, so warm and always entertain my requests for drink referrals. The shop itself is large with plenty of seating, clean bathrooms and plenty of parking out front. Best coffee in the city, hands down.

Honestly pretty disappointed in Compass Coffee. For how popular and well known they are, I was not impressed with the coffee here. I got the Cherry Blossom Cold Brew, which considering it's advertised as a cold brew, had minimal, if any coffee in it. It also definitely does not look like the advertised photos. If I wanted strawberry milk, I would have gotten this drink. My partner got the honey lavender latte and it was, again, minimal coffee and overly sugared. The shop is also very loud on weekends and not conducive to studying if that's what you're going for. However, decor was great and there was plenty seating and many outlets. Overall, great socializing spot, but if you want good coffee, look elsewhere.

I ordered coffeee beans from this shop and was horrified to find that they didn't put roast dates on their coffee, and even more horrified when I opened the can you find that the coffee was not fresh at all. Unacceptable. Might as well buy old coffee from the grocery store. read more

I am a regular at this coffeeshop and love it. The baristas are so lovely, there is always a lot of seating, and we love the kid's play area with plenty of books. The coffee is good too, of course! My son has a ton of food allergies and I have never had a problem with getting detailed ingredient information from helpful staff. read more

solid 3/5 for this particular location. i've been here a couple times. it's ok. i asked for an iced matcha and got a glass of milk with a sprinkle of matcha. the breakfast sandwiches were pretty solid. the nitro cold brew is also solid. i just don't like when i go to a place and pay for something and i have to feel like your doing me a favor. some employees were nice, but not much hospitality. probably won't return. read more

This coffee shop opened about a year ago right next to the Starbucks by the Crate and barrel. I've been several times and I'm mystified as to how it survives. The coffee is not very good, the food selections are sparse, and the barista's are snotty and rude. Went again today with work colleague. Got a latte that took 10 min and was cold. I'm a regular at this cafe and have always loved it. The baristas are friendly and the coffee is amazing. However, my most recent visit was soured by something that I couldn't have predicted. I was reading a book at the bar and all of a sudden, the pages were dampened by what appeared to be a leak in the air conditioner vent. Normally, I wouldn't be too bothered, but it didn't stop after one time. Every so often for the time I was there, my book was soiled with water. As much as I love this cafe, I am very disappointed with the apparent lack of care for the building and how it is affecting paying loyal customers like myself. read more

Great drinks, efficient yet friendly service, and easy early morning parking make this a perfect on-the-way to work pit-stop. Into mochas or other chocolaty drinks? Compass has the right stuff! Low on the sweet but high on the flavor, their mocha has to be one of the best. The pastries appear to be supplied from another vendor, a feature that shows Compass' emphasis on the drinks over the food. Gotta have something to eat though? The Jerusalem bar (sweet) is a great way to start. Compass also has a great set up for those arranging an office coffee morning as well with bulk coffee carriers and all the paraphernalia, plus the flavors and quality colleagues will appreciate. read more

Today at 1:40pm the team didn't deliver. Ordered two cappuccinos. They rushed those cappuccinos as if it was a Starbucks. No thought process, not even a process. Just espresso and then poured milk on top of it. Very mechanical process and the flavor was completely flat as a result. read more

If you have an open weekend and looking for a chill place to sip, study, or catch up with a pal, compass is your friend! I frequent the Georgetown location almost religiously each week because I had a taste of their iced turmeric latte and I cannot get enough! The vibes are chill, but warning to those who think this is small and secluded... it's not. I've been to the Georgetown location throughout many hours of the day, and it stays packed, so you might have to order your drink and find a random open spot by the wall or bar before you can snag a table. What I love about this place is that it serves exactly what they advertise, "real good coffee." There's a plethora of people ranging from student to older adults, so no need to fret about being the odd one out. This is my favorite coffee place in the DC area. It's the only local coffee shop I've been to where you can be absolutely sure you're getting the same taste EVERY TIME with no inconsistencies! I love their flavored lattes - they actually weigh the amount of sweetener so that it's always the same amount. I have never seen this done anywhere else. No "Oh well the pump stuck but it still counts" BS! read more

You order, pay and go in to get order. Social distancing is not always done by customers, some hang around door. You add your own condiments inside. Starbucks next door, order online, they make to order, pay online and they bring it to you outside. The choice makes itself. Why won't Compass provide proper level of service in circumstances? Starbucks does it. read more

Awesome establishment, been going here at least 3/week recently. Friendly and helpful staff, they offer good water (still + sparkling) complimentary, either to-go plastic cup or nice small glasses to have alongside coffee. Good small food options, and very, very large/nice space for socializing/reading/relaxing. Quality of coffee has been good, consistently strong and fresh. read more

I got an iced chai latte and a butter croissant. The chai latte is really very gross, it's almost all milk with some sort of strange chai sugar syrup that settles at the bottom of the drink. I couldn't take more than two sips without feeling sick. The butter croissant was fairly old as well. I definitely don't recommend this spot if you're in the mood for some chai. read more

I could give you a 5 star review, BUT today we had just a little inconvenient; my wife and me (and all my family) love to sit down and enjoy this place, today as usual we ask our coffee in a cup, but for some weird reason the barista gave it to us in a to go cup, saying that around this time they stop serving in a mug. This seems to be the newest Compass, in American University Park. Interestingly btw, they do not have any separate phone numbers for their different branches. I realised that when I tried to look up their number for this newest location, to find out if they have outdoors seating. Since I couldn't call, I just went, and saw that they did have it, but only benches without tables, and one can lean against the wall or windows, so, not the most super-comfortable. But many cafes have zero outdoors seating, so this is a major step up from many others. And they have wifi. The inside was very spacious, but freezing, freezing cold on this lovely, warm (not hot) day. They obliged in giving me piping hot hot-chocolate when I asked for extra-hot, so that was nice. But the drink didn't taste very good: it was mostly sugary sweet, with some weird flavour like vanilla or something that doesn't belong in a self-respecting hot chocolate. read more

If a store opens, and provides 1 hr parking validation, and then suddenly switches it to 30 minutes, you'd think they'd want to actually let their customers know before they're hit with an absurd parking charge that's more expensive than a cup of coffee. I know the blame's also shared by the landlord, but I still won't feel as bad going to Starbucks in the future. read more

Its dull, over priced, bad service and certainly a hangout out of necessity because the nearest starbucks is far from a block away!

There aren't many plugs if one wants to work on a device (but I nonetheless easily found one). It is a chill, very college'y environment (few grad students leave alone faculty sitting around). The service here was terrible, overpriced and unworthy of my hard earned dollars. The lady at the front counter kept pressuring me and my partner to show support for unionization. She kept nagging us and making us feel uncomfortable. What's even worse is, I paid 10 dollars for a mediocre and nauseating cup of cold coffee. When handing the coffee off to me, the worker spilled more than half of it all over the counter, this clumsiness and lack of foresight was then followed by a rude response to my simple question where I asked where the lids are. The worker responded in a dismissive tone by telling me to turn my head. Once I took a seat, I was surrounded by empty coffee cups that had yet to be picked up. Is this level of subpar service deserving of unionization? I think not. read more

I travel a lot for work and rarely hit the same city twice in a month. But every time I'm in D.C., I go to Compass -- usually this location. I've had maybe five different baristas take my order over the past year and they all had the same vibe: cool, not fake, fast but not rushed. That kind of consistency doesn't happen by accident.
