Saying goodbye to my baby was the hardest and painful experience. Showing us the full view of the how the process works and explaining everything in detail. Alan made sure me and my husband were both comfortable going through with the process of helping our pet move on. It definitely shows how passionate Alan is with his work. His kind words and small gestures made both me and my husband know that we put our cat in good hands. I am grateful to have found Alan and his team.

Chico's Urn and Certificate of Aqua Cremation
    Maria G.

My dog and best friend Chico passed away on May 24 and in the early morning hours while I was holding him and letting him know it was OK to go and walk over the rainbow bridge, I went online to find a place that could help me with his passing. I found Compassionate Care Aqua Crematorium in Oceanside, New York. I messaged them and within a few minutes I got a response at about 4:35 AM in the morning. Alan who is one of the owners called me and walked me through the way my pet and best friend would be cremated. He was empathetic, compassionate, explanatory and was very understanding of my pain during this time. I wanted to have a place for my boy to go once he passed later that morning and Alan made it so easy for me. I also wanted to have his ashes so that I could leave that Saturday morning on a trip that we had had planned, so that I could spread Chico's ashes at his favorite park. Alan made that happen both he and Jim were amazing and they helped me pick out the most beautiful wooden urn and they kept me informed every step of the way and accommodated me during such a really hard time. I felt such a sense of peace having my boy back. I keep his urn on my nightstand and kiss it every morning and every night. I want to thank compassionate care for the wonderful customer service, understanding, and for your patience with my numerous phone calls. I highly recommend Alan and Jim to help you through one of the hardest times in your life. They are reasonably priced for the service that they provide.

He was only five years old so even though our time together was short, he brought more love and joy into my life than I ever thought possible. I first contacted Paws at Peace a few months before I ultimately had to make the decision. Colleen was my first point of contact, and from the very beginning she was warm, patient, and understanding that I was still trying to figure out whether it was the right time. At that time March, Applesauce thankfully still had some good days ahead of him. But by May, he had slowed down significantly and was in a lot of pain so I knew it was time. Dr. Zhu came to our home and was so kind, compassionate, and gentle in a way that made an incredibly heavy moment feel just a little lighter. She never rushed anything and gave us extra time with him, which was something I had been so afraid wouldn't happen. She asked about his favorite toys, and in his final moments I found myself reminiscing about him with her as if she were a friend who had known us both for years, even though we had just met. After he passed, he was wrapped in a beautiful blanket and placed in a basket. I carried him down the stairs and brought him to the car for cremation. Saying goodbye to him was heartbreaking beyond words, but the way Dr. Zhu handled every step was so thoughtful and tender that I feel deeply grateful he was in such caring hands. I truly feel so thankful that my vet recommended Paws at Peace to me. They even followed up afterward with a beautiful card and continued support, which meant more than I could express. In such an unbearable moment, they made me feel held, supported, and cared for throughout. They helped make one of the hardest days of our lives a little more bearable and surrounded by so much love and compassion.

We got a text of the expected time and an update when there was a very slight delay. We got a follow up text the next day, with an offer for grief support. This is a well run organization. They know what they are doing. Best of all, they did not cause any additional grief to what was already a very sad day.

Dr Dawn has been visiting me about two times a month for well over a year now. Before her treatments, I was starting to limp and having much more difficulty navigating the steps I needed to use to go outside. Jumping on to my parents' bed at night when it was time for us to all go to sleep together, was becoming a hit and miss (mainly miss) experience. My regular vet, whose opinion we respected, had done everything in his power to help me. However, despite monthly Adequan injections, I was obviously still experiencing pain and compromise to my daily functioning. In fact it was during a routine visit to my conventional veterinarian when my mom questioned him as to what else could be done that could help address my arthritis. My vet discussed some alternate non medical treatments. Out of all the options mentioned, he recommended acupuncture as the most effective. He explained that although he didn't offer that service in his animal hospital, he encourages it. He related how he personally had treatments himself, and definitely benefited from them. When asked for a referral to his own personal acupuncturist, we were informed that pets needed different acupuncturist specialists then people, as the training necessary to be an expert and certified for that, was extensive and specific. We decided we were going to try and see if acupuncture could work for me. Coincidentally, at about the same time we actually heard about Dr. Dawn from another source. In addition to the vet's recommendation, my dog walker told my mom about how her 20 year old daughter's Bell's palsy, which was lingering, was almost spontaneously resolved after one treatment with acupuncture. My dog walker (who is also a great caring person, and has three dogs herself) said her daughter's acupuncturist told her about a veterinarian acupuncturist that she said was terrific. Enter Dr. Dawn Greenberg into our lives. As soon as I met Dr. Dawn, her soft voice, gentle pets to my head and reassuring manner won me over. Being a big, territorial kind of guy, it was great that she traveled to my own home to give me my treatments, which greatly reduced any any stress that I may have had, if I went to an unfamiliar office with strange smells and cold steel tables that I would associate with unhappy thoughts. It also helps that my mom stays with me right on our own couch during the treatments. I am preoccupied with conversation and kisses and I usually don't notice or ever flinch as the tiny needles are very slowly applied. Dr. Dawn patiently answers all questions and addresses all my mom's concerns. Dr Dawn is very involved with my health in general, and doesn't restrict her advice to my acupuncture alone. She was a conventional veterinarian prior to becoming a specialist in this field, so she is very knowledgeable. There was the time when after a treatment I was feeling so much better I was able to jump up unnoticed with my front paws onto the kitchen counter and ate some vegetable souffle that contained onions. Boy, when my mom called up Dr Dawn hysterical that she was afraid that those onions were potentially poisonous, Dr Dawn calmly talked my mom through what to do. And then there are all of Dr. Dawn's suggestions, like changing to a more effective anti flea and tick application then the one I had been using for years. She also told my mom about these toe-grips that slip over my nails and help walking by decreasing the slipping on the tile and wood floors. Most recently after Dr. Dawn attended a week long out of town advanced training course for new treatments and told us about a video she became aware of there, that had strength training exercises to help with weakness in my back legs, which she explained is one of the problems. Then, there was one time when I missed my Adequan injection at my general vet. Due to my mom's working schedule I would have had to wait another whole week to get it. When my mom voiced her concern about the delay, Dr Dawn ran into her car and returned with the proper Adequan shot and gave it to me right there and then! Talk about service with a smile. I have the utmost respect for her and am so glad to have the very nice Dr. Dawn in my life. In addition to looking forward to her visits (I even get so excited I jump up to greet her) it really seems that the treatments are helping me. Since I am very allergic to almost everything, typical analgesic pain reduction medications are out of the question for me. So, without the acupuncture treatments, I am afraid that my life would be so much more restricted due to pain. I just wanted to let others know of my experience so perhaps they too can consider this as a valuable alternative. Thank you for listening to my story, Pipie

The office he works out of is interested in 1 thing. Not my pet's well being. They are interested in money. The deal was a flat "package deal" of $6500. This was supposed to be $1000 discount as per Dr Lesser. This was said to me and my wife VERY clearly. That was the fee and no additions unless something went horribly wrong. Thankfully nothing did. He is healing. At each time of bringing Harvey in for the next step the office staff attempted to overcharge me. Each time I explained that the arrangement was a package deal of $6500. Each time they had to consult someone else as if it is not stated clearly on the invoice they and I both have copies of. Each time they backed down. Until... today. We are 10 weeks out from removing his stiches. This is the timeframe that Dr Lesser instructed me to bring him back for his final xray to make sure everything is good. It was NEVER said that this xray was an additional fee. Never did anyone tell me when I made the appt that there was an additional fee. I got there this morning to be confronted with an $854 estimate for this xray. I protested and said exactly what I said the prior 2 times. I was being over charged for a "package deal". First by the nurse, then the office manager. I asked her to contact Dr Lesser. She claims he says that is not what he said. YES YOU DID! Dr Lesser I hope you read this and 1 of 2 things happens: either you chew out the people who lied about what you said and reschedule Harvey's included xray OR you call me at (631) 258-8766 and apologize for lying to me. One of you is lying. You absolutely said the price was $6500 for everything. I cannot, with good conscience, say my dog was mistreated in any way at this place but I DEFINITELY was. I guess the bottom line is you had better get every little thing in writing from this place as far as cost because they WILL try to screw you. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because Harvey is OK.
