Before my retirement I had occasion to observe many "busy professionals" criticize assistants. I was so impressed how, in the most gentle, polite yet serious and non-intimidating manner Dr. Fishman accomplished this, that I felt compelled to mention it here. With that said, the front-end experience has been poor. A little background. I received an Explanation of Benefits from my dental insurance company (Delta) along with a check. I asked if my ex-wife had paid anything out of pocket, and I was told no, she hadn't. I called the dentists' office to ask why I received the check. I was told that my boys saw Dr. Shelton that day. I was then informed that Dr. Shelton doesn't take Delta while Dr. Gibbons does. Weird, but ok - I know doctors carry their own insurances, but I find it odd that the practice doesn't carry the same insurance for all providers. I did confirm that their appointment was with Dr. Gibbons, but when they showed up, my ex-wife was told that they would see Dr. Shelton that day since Dr. Gibbons was out. No big deal. But, at no time was she informed about the lack of Delta insurance coverage with Dr. Shelton or what would happen if she saw someone who didn't cover their insurance (end result is not a big deal as you will see, but ugh to the lack of communication). I digress - back to the check I received. I was told that I would need to endorse the check and return it to their office. Ok, also not a big deal. I then asked if they could make a note in their system about the insurance coverage so that in the future this wouldn't happen. This is where things go off the rails. I was told that it was MY responsibility to understand which of their doctors carried Delta and that it was my responsibility to ensure that I was seeing the correct doctor (wild). I asked how I was supposed to know that Dr. Shelton didn't cover Delta and why that would be my responsibility. I was assured that they told my ex-wife about it at some point. I won't go into "she said-she said" said details about what the receptionist and my ex had to say, but their stories differ. The receptionist began to get very short with me to the point where she said our conversation was unbelievable. She even asked if I would be cancelling the boys' future appointments so that I could create two openings for other customers (excuse me?). I explained as calmly as I could that I wanted to prevent this from happening again as driving the check and EOB to their office was inconvenient to which her retort was that I could just mail it in instead (also inconvenient). We ended the conversation without cancelled appointments but some frustration on both sides - I don't think she liked her (their?) quality practices being called into question. If you're still considering this practice (which you should in my opinion), take the following tips - 1) Know if both doctors take your insurance so that if something unexpected happens, you know who you can and can't see 2) Call ahead to make sure that you and/or your children will be seeing the doctor they are scheduled with that day to avoid an unexpected switcharoo like we experienced It's worth repeating- we have had very good experiences with this dental practice in general; however, I'm reviewing the practice as a whole. The lack of communication and the front-office rudeness I experienced are being taken into account. I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could, but I'll round up to 4 since it's been more good than bad.

His practice looks like a house from the outside and is beautifully landscaped. It looks very inviting from the outside. Parking can be challenging for those such as myself who can't parallel park well on the street. The inside is very well kept. There is a nice waiting room that has magazines and even toys and books for toddlers. I also like that they have a water cooler. The staff are all friendly, professional, thorough, and adept. When I come in for my bi-annual cleaning I generally get Patricia who is pleasant and makes the time go by. Today I came in to have two fillings for my receding gum. Dr. Glass was thorough in explaining the procedure and said if I experienced any discomfort to let him know, and I did, not too long after he started. He frequently checked to see if I was doing ok. It shows he cares about his patients which I can appreciate. Without any reservation, I highly recommend Dr. Glass.

He and his staff didn't make me feel bad about it and cleaned me up very well. I don't love going to the dentist (I feel like I'm a car at the auto shop), but Dr. Glass is as gentle as they get. I later moved to DC and my insurance changed, so I attempted to find a new local dentist. Well, said dentist removed one of my one fillings and replaced it, because he just felt like it would look nicer. Fast forward a few months and I -swallowed- said filling and frantically called Dr. Glass for an appointment. I was fit in promptly and worked up thoroughly - the tooth was ruined and I would need my first root canal. Dr. Glass smoothed out my tooth in the mean time, referred me to dentist to do the root canal (he was also good, but no Dr. Glass), and then had me back to do a temporary crown as he sent away for a permanent crown to be made. Even if Dr. Glass isn't in network for my new dental insurance (though services are partially covered), even if it's a 45-minute drive out, I'll be going to Dr. Glass, because once you find a good dentist, you don't leave 'em! (lesson learned.)

My previous dentist had told me that I wasn't doing a super great job with my teeth (I was drinking wayyy too much sugary coffee and not flossing) but when I left him he said that I had two-three cavities. Fast forward to a short while later and Dr. DeVeas is saying that I have 8-10 cavities that need to be filled right away. This seemed a bit odd to me and I questioned him and said that I might want to get a second opinion because of the difference between what he said and what my previous dentist was saying. The result of me mentioning I might want a second opinion was him kicking me out of the practice. I was completely shocked, and as such kept the letter from his office to this day. When I called the practice after receiving this letter, they then were stating that I was also constantly cancelling appointments (I cancelled two over my time with them, and I think within the timeframe where it didn't get a cancellation fee.) I have NEVER been kicked out of any practice in my life except for Dr. DeVeas. My parents also stopped seeing him and found a much better dentist back in Baltimore because of issues my mom had with him, and because of how he treated me. I have since moved out of state a few times and found many, much better, much more understanding dentists. I am not going to pretend I was perfect with my teeth, and over the next 5 years I had quite a few cavities filled, but only 2-4 were necessary immediately after I left Dr. DeVeas, the rest were described as watch and wait. I know different dentists have different thresholds for when to fill a cavity, but you have to remember that fillings don't last forever, and each tooth can only withstand so many fillings before it becomes a crown. I have learned that when you can trust your dentist, you listen better and learn to take better care of your teeth.

Since the development of new advances in cosmetic dentistry I researched the named experts in this field. I decided upon Dr. Haywood since he had an excellent reputation and years of experience. After my consultation, I was impressed with the newest techniques and procedures he described that would be utilized to make a replacement. He offered several options and I decided on the one that I felt would be the most beneficial to me and achieve a pleasing look to the eye. There was incentive for paying in full, but certainly other financial arrangements could be made. Let me say, with no reservations, Dr. Haywood is a caring, cosmetic surgeon with a great dental chair manner. His staff is friendly, efficient and my appointments were made to blend with my work schedule. The office and dental rooms are pristine. I felt completely comfortable during the procedures. Each service as it was being performed was explained, so I had a clear understanding of where, why and what was happening. The entire process was completed within the proposed schedule. After the success of my bridge replacement, I decided to continue with Dr. Haywood for my regular preventative dental appointments. I needed a crown repaired, a root canal, and some other work done (cavities, deep cleaning, ect), none of it really pleasant but Dr. Levine is extremely gentle, steady, and always makes sure you're not feeling any pain. He's applied the novocain perfectly with every procedure he's done for me and I've never had to take anything stronger than advil a few hours after I leave. I explained my anxiety at my 1st visit and Dr. Levine went over the sedation route which is what we decided would work best for me. No, I'm not being put out with every procedure. He prescribed me a prescription for valium which I take 1 hr before my appointment. I've actually dropped my dosage because of how good Dr. Levine is at his job. I also opted to have the nitrous to help comfort me... Let me just say this, I almost fell asleep during my root canal. I'm serious. I really believe it won't be long where I'll only need the novocain if I need anything done other than a routine cleaning which I'm excited to say will be done at this office from here on out unless I move from Maryland. The entire office is extremely personable, I've held many a conversations with Dr. Levine, Ilona, Vicky, and Peggy. They really do care what's going on with their patients and truly make it feel like you're hanging out with friends!
