Dirty, trashy staff. Obnoxious policies. "Dropping off or staying?" Well, I live 1/4 a mile away. I want you to take the car and I return in an hour or two to retrieve it. Call it what you want. "Well..that would be considered dropping off and we will take a full day to turn around the car" Well, how about I schedule a time to have my car serviced and you service it at that time rather than worrying about where I'm sitting during this ordeal? "Sorry, can't do that." When shopping for a car, questions greeted with questions. "How much is this car?" "How will you be paying? How much will you put down? Will you finance? Well I have not been to this dealership since 2005. I bought three minivans and a Prius from them. The service department back then STUNK!! Messes up repeatedly. Damaged my car. Ordered wrong parts. You name it. Oh and when I bought my Prius we agreed on a price and when they delivered it tried to charge more. Not good. I wrote a comprehensive and detailed letter to the dealership owners never got a replay. So? I took my business to another dealership where I have gotten excellent service for the past 8 years. "True Car" gave the 3 best prices for the car I selected. Competition offered the best price. Our salesman was Prescott . He was knowledgeable , patient, and very comfortable to work with. Purchased 4 vehicles at this dealership, three of which were paid for in cash. Walked in this weekend to look at another and couldn't even get a simple "hello" from one person who worked there let alone any help. It wasn't busy and we made eye contact with salesmen, managers, and even the receptionist who all seemed to be free. We were blatantly ingonred. Walked right out and never going back. Whoever took over this dealership is doing a fantastic job. I had my car serviced today and it was quick and easy. I was greeted with a smile at the service drop off. This alone is a vast improvement to the old method of trying to find a parking spot in that tight and often packed lot. I was checked in quickly, and waited only about 40 minutes for my oil change, full inspection and tire rotation (on a Saturday!) My past review is old, and based on the old management. I took my 06 Tacoma there for a chassis inspection do to a recall letter. To my surprise the condition was far worst than I thought, the truck was unsafe to drive, They show such concern for my safety and wellbeing ,also 1 1/2 hour drive there, They recommend I leave it there they would expedite the process that normally can take some time and multiple trips to the service department,I also spoke with the mechanic ,I Am very impressed with the staff and the service department, I highly recommend bringing your vehicle there for servicing ,I only wish I was closer ,I look forward to buying my next vehicle there in the future ,Thank you Joseph for all you help,Thank you Competition Toyota for a great loner car and service, Thank you Toyota for backing your name by covering this recall. read more

I just brought my 2008 Prius in on Thursday 12/13/2012. I brought my car in at the 8:30AM appointment time and described my problem: the "master warning light" keeps coming on multiple times during the day, worse while braking and turning. I called them 4.5 hours later and they still hadn't gotten to working on my car but promised they would get back to me right away with an update. By 3 PM I finally get a phone call. They can't even reproduce the warning light, the computer has no error messages. The service manager tells me they've checked everything and they can't figure out why the light is coming on. They ask me if I can leave it another day. Needing my car to get to work, this is a no-go. I end up walking the three miles from my house to the shop in order to get my car before closing time. They don't charge me but they have no idea why I am having this problem, they seem doubtful I am even having this issue. Today my husband checked the oil dipstick and finds there is no oil in the reservoir! The oil was changed less than 3k miles ago. Are you telling me the experts at Toyota didn't even check the oil? Why did I leave my car there for 7 1/2 hours? Although Riverhead is farther away and it can be difficult to get an appointment there, I am going to return to the Riverhead dealership for service from now on. I've purchased two Toyotas from the Middle Island dealership, they were always friendly and helpful. I just don't recommend the service area. read more

We went to Competition Toyota recently and WOULD NEVER GO BACK. We are still waiting on answers. Our salesperson was new and lacked the knowledge that we needed. We have a 2013 Toyota Avalon, looking to trade up. Every question we asked he looked at us as if we were asking about a Honda!! Two weeks later and we still aren't any closer to trading in our vehicle than we were the day we went in. Mind you we always purchase Toyota's and make our decisions quick. We went in to Competition at the end of May. After spending 3 hours with the salesman( test driving, discussing trade-in etc) we agreed on a price and left a $100 deposit on a 2013 RAV4.The day before we were to pick it up the business office called to go over the transaction. We were told that the Cash due on pickup line of our invoice was off by $2100.00!!! There was nothing they could or would do about it. It turns out that the invoice is not binding. Apparently, they thought we might be so in love with the car that we would take it anyway? When trying to discuss this with management and the owner of the dealership, we were treated quite disrespectfully. I was even told that we should have seen the mistake! So maybe this was our fault or maybe this is how they try to scam people into buying from them. We have since purchased the car from another dealer who treated us wonderfully from start to finish. Never in my life have I dealt with such incompetent people! My husband put a deposit down for a special edition 4 runner with all the bells and whistles back in December 2018! His sales guy was Greg and totally gave him the runaround. Lies after lies about the status of the truck for 2 1/2 months! Then I had the pleasure of speaking with Coleen one of the managers. Not even an "I'm sorry" for all the inconvenience and lies of her staff! Last we were told the truck would arrive the last week of February to find out it wasn't even approved to be built yet! What a joke! So this past weekend, we went there to collect our deposit and still no apologies! What a disgrace of a business and staff! Oh and this was a cash deal that they now lost to ford for a truck with even more bells and whistles and amazing costumer service! I also recommend them to 2 of my friends because they played it off to be so good in the beginning! Well I obviously warned them and they went to smithtown Toyota instead! I don't know why the bad Reviews on Yelp for Competition Toyota. I bought my Tundra there and got a very good deal. Previously I bought a Corolla at another Toyota Dealer and I felt that I got ripped off. I have been bringing both of my Toyotas to Competition for Service even though it is a long drive for me out to Middle Island from Nassau County. I have always found the Service Personnel very friendly and very helpful. The Service Technicians have always done excellent work on both of my Toyotas which is why I keep going there. I NEVER have the feeling of being ripped off after they do their fine work. On the contrary, I am always very happy by the way that I was treated and by the work that was done. I will continue to patronize this very well run Dealership for as long as I own my Toyotas and when I need to purchase again, my first choice will be Competition Toyota. i went here to possibly trade in my 2011 tacoma 4x4 acess, edmunds gives it a dealer trade in value of $20500.00. i owe 13500. i was looking at a 2012 acess 4x4 automatic. its list price was 27000.00. talked to the dealer for a few then started talking money, they checked out my truck for trade in value. they did their typical talk in private and then came back with some finance options. they gave me two options. 1. 60 months of 440.00 2. 84 months of 328.00 option one, ends up being 27,000. option two, ends up being 27,300. neither one sounds like a good deal. i told the dealer that basically i would just give them my truck and pay full price for the new one. doesnt sound too good top me,,, useless service read more

I have to say, as a customer who has purchased/leased 4 Toyotas within the past 8 years, I am less than dissatisfied as of recently. Between Middle Island and Sunrise Toyota, I am not sure who is worse. My first 3 experiences with Toyota were favorable, while my last experience/first time leasing was horrible and has continued to be nothing but a headache. Unfortunately, my last owned Camry had been totaled in 2012, which forced me into getting another car and I headed back to Middle Island thinking they would do right by me. Well I was wrong, as being a "loyal customer," seems to mean nothing these days. I went to a salesman at Middle Island, whose name I will not mention out of respect, and he absolutely lied to me to just make a sale. Granted I wasn't financially in the best situation and I realize he didn't have much to work with, but he promised me items such as particular rims (that I didn't know he wasn't including until he pulled the car around on the day I was picking it up) and gave me false hope that if I came back in two years with better credit, they could possibly terminate the lease early and get a better monthly payment if my credit had improved. Well I went back 8 months earlier prior to my lease being up and sat with the same person and when I reminded him what I was told, he asked, "Who told you that??" He told me that!!! And then continued to give me the run around about how it was impossible to make my payments any lower. Therefore, with my lease being up in less than a week at this current time, I went to Sunrise Toyota with better hope in mind. Apparently all of these dealerships aren't hurting anymore because no one seems to want to help me and they love giving the run around. After getting very disgruntled with Sunrise, I called Middle Island ONE LAST TIME in hopes that they would work with me, considering I have been a "loyal customer" and they did issue me the lease. To much despair, I got a cold salesman on the phone that pretty much just gave me my buy out information and couldn't be bothered. I've never experienced salesmen to be so dismissive! The worst part about all of this is, I am $5500 over my mileage and NONE of these people want to work with me. Again, I was forced into getting a lot less miles then I TRULY needed because of my credit and they wouldn't work with me back in 2012 either! So here I am, with a huge over mileage bill and a used car at this point, that I just want to get down to an affordable payment with much better credit this time around but again, no one can help me. Sounds pretty ludicrous to me when this company is a $50 million dollar business. Poor work ethic and no such thing as customer loyalty being any kind of assistance. And if I get one more piece of paper in the mail, false advertising that Toyota can help me, I am going right to the Attorney General as it is false advertising and no different than the solicitation calls we all get at home that we never signed up for! read more
