I had a bridal party here and it was a lovely calming experience except we were greeted at the door from a two ladies one with black hair in a bun with a choker and another older lady blonde with black glasses Christi and Lynn, I believe. Who happened to have a very sour attitude we waited in the lobby for a while before our pedicures and failed to tell us we had access to the relaxation room and also failed to tell us where it was and what to do. When we asked about she gave us a ruder response and rolled her eyes I was extremely disappointed and offended by her attitude towards my sister getting married and the rest of my family. Otherwise the other staff helped us settle in and told us what to do and was very nice. I have been fortunate enough to have been treated with spa days at Complexions since I was a kid. I've watched the business grow and expand offering new services, and I now frequent both locations. I feel inclined to write this review after seeing some bad reviews, and I'd like to remind everyone how people are typically only encouraged to leave reviews when they are unhappy. Not to mention reviews are now used as weapons against businesses. My favorite service to get are massages, they have a great selection of unique massages and add ons I don't see anyone else offering. The amenities have always been clean and available- it's never over crowded. I appreciate the little things they offer, if you use their amazing shower they provide razors, deodorant, moisturizer, q tips and whatever else you may need for an after shower routine. Beyond massages I've done plenty of facials (love the hydra facials), laser hair removal and waxing. I hope to book a consult with the medspa soon! I've always admired Complexions from a business point of view, as I now also own a small business and Denise is a genius from this perspective! Her skincare line is admirable - and so refreshing! I have been here many times and I usually have a wonderful experience but today's visit was less than ideal. Very poor customer service at the reception desk left me annoyed I was greeted nicely but when the woman behind the desk looked uo my name she right away took an annoying tone and said I had to fill out a form online first and seemed aggravated that I did not fill out yet. This was 1st time I heard of this form. She rudely confirmed my phone number. And then dismissed me to fill out survey on line. Didnt tell me to take a seat nothi I reluctantly opened my phone and filled out the survey and then went back to desk to see if I needed to do anything else. She was dealing with another customer and I waited for a few minutes. Then she just looked at me and said.... she will be with you in a minute. Again didn't tell me I could take a seat or anything. Usually when you go here the people who greet you are super gracious and go out of the way to make you comfortable. The person who gave me the facial was wonderful. But despite that I don't plan to go back here. It just really irked me how this woman dismissed me and treated me. My husband and I were treated at Complexions Spa for four treatments over two different days. The environment was very serene and relaxing, and the treatment providers were very good and very professional. Unfortunately, the reservationist, front desk staff, and spa attendants made many mistakes, lacking a significant level of professionalism you would expect at a spa of this caliber. These problems included making a mistake on the second day with one of my reservations where I was sent a male instead of female massage therapist for a 1.5 hour massage. When I brought it to their attention, the massage therapist (not the front desk administrative person) offered a half hour massage with a woman instead of 1.5 hour to "fix" the mistake. I told them I wanted to speak with the front desk person and strongly objected to the supposed solution; they came up with an hour massage with a free add-on (hot stone massage). I had to work hard for this - they made things much more stressful than it should have been. They also told us wrong information about their tipping policies for certain massage therapists and made it really difficult to tip people, did not tell massage therapists to wear masks for both of us (which we had requested ahead of time and they had done the first day), had a cold spa attendant greet us who was suppose to make us feel welcome but lacked warmth and social graces, another spa attendant touched me repeatedly (which you do not do with out consent), etc. When the owner, Denise DuBois, called to talk about the numerous problems I had outlined in an email, she was highly defensive. I felt SO tense and uncomfortable with how she behaved towards me that even though she apologized for our experience at the spa and ultimately offered two free massages (for myself and my husband), I/we could never imagine going back there; we did not accept the offer. We do NOT ever want to go back there again. There was a significant lack of warmth and empathy for the level of problems and mistakes from staff and the stressful impact of this in real time and when discussed later - it was quite shocking. We have been to spas and all types of treatment providers in the U.S. and in Europe and have never been treated so unprofessionally by the administrative end of a business. It clearly comes from the top down and is very problematic. Added note: I have a friend who warned me against this place, because she had been there a half dozen times, and they made a mistake every single time with her reservation. When I told this to Denise Dubois, she wanted to know the name of my friend (talk about this request being inappropriate), and she found it hard to believe what I was saying (again, inappropriate). I rarely write reviews, especially about poor experiences, but after how we were treated by the owner, Trish, and receptionist Arianna this morning, I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others. This morning, my mom, sister, and I traveled from Saratoga Springs to Albany for spray tans at Complexion in preparation for my sister's wedding this weekend. We thought our appointments were scheduled for 9 AM, with others following after. After driving for 30 minutes, we received a call from Arianna informing us that we missed our 8:30 AM appointment, and she would no longer be able to accommodate us. While we admit it was an oversight on our part, given the importance of the weekend, we thought there might be some understanding or flexibility. I understand that businesses need to enforce policies, but right from the start, Arianna was extremely condescending, rude, and unaccommodating. My sister, remaining calm, called back to explain the situation and ask if at least one of us could be seen, given that it was for my sister's wedding. I, however, was less composed, as I was appalled by Arianna's tone and behavior. We aren't from the area, and we came based on a recommendation, so we felt cornered with nowhere else to turn. The call ended abruptly when Arianna hung up on us, and I expressed my frustration by calling the situation "ridiculous" -- a sentiment I still stand by. Shortly after, the owner, Trish, called to reprimand us and informed us that we were no longer welcome at their spa. I was taken aback, as we've never been treated this way by any business, let alone banned from one. After reading other reviews, it seems this may be a recurring issue with their treatment of clients. I'm deeply disappointed, especially considering it was for my sister's wedding, and we were hoping for a positive experience. I'm giving this experience 1 star, but if there were an option to give less, I would. For those of you reading this, take it as a warning when deciding whether to spend your money here. Hospitality doesn't seem to be a priority for them. As I mentioned, their reviews mirror our experience, and I've since heard from locals who have nothing but negative things to say about this business. 7/16/22 final update. Can't make this stuff ! I spoke to Denise the owner and she said that this was just a isolated Incident, and come back as her guest to give them a second chance ! I agreed and made a appointment. Due to Covid I did have to reschedule but with plenty of notice. By rescheduling I did get to book with Chris who is always booked out for weeks ! I'm feeling lucky. Walked in Saturday arriving 7 minutes early. As I checked in, the woman who I really liked last time said, we have a slight problem. Chris is running far behind and can we have someone else do your hair. I actually laughed and said no really. She said really. I asked with who . She said Bridget. I found out that she's brand new. I think today was her first day. At this point I really wanted to just say, have a nice day, but I said ok. The lady was very sweet. We talked about my hair and she recommended a conditioning treatment. Great let's do it. After she said I'm just gonna take very little off to even it out and trim some dead ends. I said fine. I really thought my hair looked good after the treatment. After she was done, she walked me to check out. The girl asked my name. Then told me what I owed. I said I think Denise left a note on my card about taking care of this. She said nothing is on your card. Then I said, well you can listen to my voice mail where she states this. She said no, and continued to look for something. Then said you can leave we have your credit card on file. I said, well trust me, I came back by invitation from Denise to give complexions another try. Trying to remain calm. I went along with the change of hairstylist but I'm not being charged ! Another lady stepped in and said it's ok, you can go, have a nice day. Not sure what's going on here. Seems like to me a constant change of crew maybe ???? Not sure. Running a specialty spa, you really have to have your crew understand the importance of customer service. Not only getting quality treatments but quality service. Someone is dropping the ball ! Especially today, treating yourself to a upscale spa, in today's economy, you expect a smooth exchange. I probably would've went back if Chris did my hair, and everything went smooth. But 2 out of 2 is too much of a coincidence. Poor scheduling on someone's part. Three stars for the beautiful woman at the door, and Bridget stepping up. I have been going to Complexions Spa for years and usually highly recommend it. The Massage Therapist I see (Luna) is awesome, the problem is how the Spa is now run! I understand COVID hurt a lot of businesses and people are doing what they can to support local businesses. Check your GIFT CARDS, there is now a service fee of $2.50 per month after 3 years (no date on card). Also, I had a 15% discount that was emailed to me and unfortunately they would not except my word on the 15% even though I advised them of the discount upon booking my massage. I have 2 gift cards remaining I will use them ASAP however will not PURCHASE another one. read more

I just recently went to another local spa for a facial, but coming back here really made me remember how wonderful this place is!!!! I booked a dermaplane which was on special, and an express facial. What sets Complexions apart for me is how they greet you nicely and have you change and hang out in the relaxation room before your service. I sipped some tranquility tea and sat there and was really happy and relaxed, where as the other spa I went to I just sat in the waiting room until my service. My technician Elle was really good. I've never booked an express facial so I guess I was sort of expecting maybe a rushed service but she did not skimp on time at all. I left feeling like I got all the pleasures of a full service. The facility is so pretty and clean. I really enjoyed my service and will be coming here more often! The products they use are also amazing and I do love the eco friendly factor of this place. Went here for the first time last week. It's located on wolf road and ironically enough i am in this area all the time and never knew this was there lol. I had an herbal soak. The staff was very nice and friendly, I highly enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe of the place, so peaceful. I came in an hour early and had orientation and changed into my robe and slippers and enjoyed cookies and tea in the quiet room which was heaven. The herbal soak was very nice and relaxing, after that I had a nice steam and took a shower, their shower is amazing. I love the fact that they don't rush you, you can stay as long as you would like. I took my entire bridal group here the day before my wedding. I had been looking around for just the right spa for us 5 girls. After using yelp to read reviews I decided to give this place a try. It worked!! Complexions is a great place to relax, rejuvenate and obtain any spa treatment you'd like. The pedicure and manicure was done by "Mari" I don't know if I am spelling her name right. She listened to everything I wanted for my pedicure and manicure and it lasted most of my honeymoon on the beach, in the sand (3 weeks later). I am very picky about my cuticles and cleaning and she did everything with a smile. The entire staff was cuteous, patient, kind, soft spoken and wonderful to be around. We retired to the solarium after our mani/pedi's and ate ordered out lunch (my bridesmaids picked it up). They made place settings for us and graciously accomodated. On top of the GREAT quality service they are a qualified, bonafide 'go green' salon. AND, their prices are the same as any other salon. I will definitely be returning every time I go home now. I was a loyal customer to Complexions for years. The person who I went to for years left completions and I followed her. I periodically went back to Completions for massages and facials and blowouts. I have always had a great experience and was glad I had my go to spa. I was very disappointed in my recent visit for a skin service. I arrived at my appointment time and sat for half an hour waiting. I was told that the person before me wanted to add on a service. This meant my appointment was delayed a half hour. I felt that was bad business to add on a service for someone else and make me wait a half hour for my appointment. I was treated very rudely by the employee who was going to provide the service. The receptionist was very embarrassed and apologetic and said the owner would call me. I never heard from anyone. read more

This was my first experience at a spa, and they definitely outperformed my expectations! The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. I loved that they had chamomile-infused water and chocolate chip cookies at the door and at every public place for us to munch on. The ambiance was great and soothing. The massage therapist was excellent and very attentive to my sensitivities. She did a great job asking me about depth and pressure of the massage. The aroma therapy that accompanied wasn't too strong. She was very patient and didn't rush through anything. They just cancelled an appointment 5.5 hours before the appointment - that they just made not even 24 hours earlier after emailing me that I have to pay if I cancel in less than 24 hours. Definite attitude when I said I thought this was unprofessional (hire more than one employee). Had two negative experiences there already. One their tub is decades old and super loud and two they're not handicap accessible and left my disabled mom waiting for someone to open doors in violation of federal law. read more

Went to the Master Barber shop after many disappointing $25-$30 haircuts and received the best haircut I ever had. Giuseppe is an artist. I have never seen such attention to detail and techniques. Michelangelo had stone, Giuseppe has hair. Appointment was kept on-time, and it was no problem going over my time due to so much hair to chisel off. Checked and rechecked every stylist on Yelp in Albany and decided to go to Complexions. The bad reviews all centered on slow service at the reception, but to me that meant they were busy for good reasons. I was right! It's Spa Week at Complexions but they squeezed me in. Excellent men's cut, from the shampoo to very experienced keeping my layering and length but trimming it all around. Full spa with a lot of gifts and products. The spa facilities and relaxation room look nice and the overall environment felt "spa-like" but my pedicure was disappointingly not "spa-level" It all seemed very rote, and not aimed at my relaxation. The foot/leg massage was almost non-existent, the exfoliation was cursory, and the polish was dulled within a day or two (weirdly, you select colors from a bin of painted plastic nails rather than a wall of bottles, so I don't even know what brand they use, but it was nothing special and not as durable as my usual pedicures). After moving back to the Capital District from a larger city about a year ago, I had to find a place for reliable, higher-quality nail services. I think Complexions hits the sweet spot of affordable (although on the higher end) and high-quality for occasional nail services. They also offer online booking, which I find gloriously convenient. I've had late-evening, after-work appointments that I found very convenient as well. You won't have any worries about hygiene here. You will be given the emery board and foot file they use for your pedicure. The staff frequently wash their hands. The floors are clean, and so are the chairs and work surfaces. They carry OPI polishes, among others, and have always had the latest color collection when I've been there. Furthermore, the staff are always excellent. I've seen Harolyn and Lisa more than once--both excellent. I recently saw Julie, who was great as well. The ambiance is really very lovely. Cucumber water, cookies, coffee, and comfortable chairs everywhere. I really love this place. If there is any room for improvement, I'd say that the massage chairs for the pedicures are a little noisy. Also, you should expect around $60+ for your pedicure, and about $30+ for your manicure. This isn't a strip-mall nail salon. I'd say it is vastly superior to Bellezza and Jean Paul, and I'd choose Complexions over either of those salons without a second thought. read more

HAIR BUTCHERS. They have butchers not stylists. Do not have your hair done here. DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOUR HAIR. Save yourself oceans of tears. 3 months before my wedding my hair is RUINED and they don't care. I booked with the salon manager who, sadly, says he teaches classes in NYC for a large hair product company and 'teaches' the other stylists at Complexions. I arrive telling him I am getting married in 3 months and my below the shoulder, thin hair needs a shoulder length style. I bring three different pictures. Color pictures. 5x7 size so we can both see and discuss what will work with my hair. I ask twice, once we have settled on the cut, "this will work for my thin, bleached hair, right?" "Oh yes" he responds. So we color, wash, cut and style and he blows it out and it looks a little like the photo but not exactly. Ok. But it looks pretty good. After the first wash, the entire head of heat but for the top 2.5 inches frizzed into a disaster or rats nest whore hair. I started crying. And have cried every time I look in the mirror since. I went to another stylist in another city the next day and as I had an important business event, spent $100 to get it blown out, and that stylist said in horror "He gave you a razor cut??? Oh. You got screwed. To fix this you have to cut it off." What???? I had 12 inch long hair 4 days ago and the Complexions cut results in me having hair so damaged that I have to cut it to a pixie? 3 MONTHS BEFORE MY WEDDING??????? So I go back to complexions. They have someone else - snobby girl with 14 inches of long blond hair - look at my hair. Do they offer to fix it? NO. They can't fix it. The woman I spoke to even said "Oh with your hair texture it should never have been razored. ". WHAT? THE HaIR BUTCHER IS YOUR SALON MANAGER!?!?!?! So Complexions chick was highly dispassionate....did I say I'm getting married in 3 MONTHS. She offered a free moisture treatment. I told her I had slept every night since the first time I washed it with moisturizing conditioner slathered in my head. How would their moisture treatment be better. She just stared at me. I asked if they would refund the price of the cut. No. Against store policy. To get any remuneration whatsoever I have to go BACK TO THE SALON MANAGED by the Butcher? STAY AWAY FROM COMPLEXIONS they will ruin your hair, your wedding and charge you $300 for the privilege. read more

I've been here 3 times for a men's haircut and was satisfied each time. I haven't used any of the spa services so I can't comment on those. As far as general attentiveness, customer services and atmosphere things run smoothly. Granted, at any large place you're going to have bad apples, so some will have a bad experience or some personalities will clash. (We've all experienced meeting a person we instantly dislike and for whatever reason there's very little they can do to change that.) The parking lot is a little small but I've managed to find a spot every time. Some of the receptionist staff seem on the young side and as a general rule young people have difficulty controlling their non-verbal communication. I did catch a girl behind the counter make the "disgust" face at a customer when she turned her back to walk out. Young people just don't know the impact their micro expressions and tiny inflections of voice have. But that's life. Overall good service and I was very happy with my cut and style. read more

So far I have gone there for a Shiatsu Massage, Balneotherapy, Hot Stone Therapy and a Manicure. I still have a few other treatments that I would like to try and plan to go back as often as possible. The atmosphere in Complexions is fantastic. You are instantly soothed and relaxed, which may be necessary after driving in the Wolf Road area. The staff is very professional yet friendly. You feel welcome and comfortable, even in the waiting areas. The treatment rooms are so nice and are kept very clean. You feel very safe and private and cut off enough to truly let go and relax. The spa staffers are all highly skilled and also very nice people from my experience. Prices are competitive with other area spas. There is a wet and dry sauna as well as a shower in the locker room area and they are all free to use for spa goers. Most other spas charge for sauna use from my experience. You get a locker to use for your time at the spa so your belongings are kept safe. They also have a fabulous relaxation area called the serenity room where you can wait between appointments or wait for your fellow spa goers. They even provide water, chocolates and cookies while you lounge. The location is convenient. You can make a day of it because you are very close to tons of restaurants and shopping. The extra special bonus of Complexions is that the spa is green. You can pamper yourself and feel good that you are doing it in a place that considers the environment as well as your health, well being and relaxation. My only regret is that this spa is an hour drive from where I live! I started going to Complexions about one year ago because I wanted to try laser treatments for my acne scarring. I have been going almost monthly since that time, seeing Denise for laser treatments, facials, and product recommendations. The facility itself is cozy and clean. Denise always welcomes me with a hug and takes time to help me choose the best products for my skincare regimen. She explains the procedure and what to expect pre and post, and is highly professional and meticulous in her work. Update: The facial is called a Jessner Peel- it is a superficial peel used to treat photoaging, age spots, acne, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, melisma, and freckles. read more

I have been getting my haircut every 3 - 4 weeks at the Barber shop with Master Barber Kara Falzo for the past 2 years. Coffee, fruit & mint infused water, herbal tea, cookies, trail mix, or fresh fruit is offered. I get use of the steam room and shower inside the mens locker room. Kara uses scissors and clippers, uses a straight razor to trim around the ears and neck, then washes my hair, trims my eyebrows, wraps my head and a hot towel, and ends the five star experience with a neck and shoulder massage. I've been trying this spa out for a couple of months. The massage and facials are terrific. The massage and relaxing environment was just what the doctor ordered. In fact, the facials have had amazing results. The major disappointment has been the manicure and pedicure. They charge a lot for marginal service. The pedicure massage was about 2 seconds long and after I was sold the upgrade! My gel manicure was flaking off after a week. I didn't think a manicure and pedicure could be worst than the places at the mall but it was. And I paid double the price. read more

First off, I will simply say that just to spend a day there with the atmosphere and special amenities such as the sunroom, sauna, and complimentary tea are worth an admission price on their own. Too bad they don't offer some kind of "just hang around" special! The fact that this spa is LEEDS certified and committed to environmental sustainability is one reason I chose it, and I am very glad I did. Everything is very beautiful and very clean. I felt relaxed and calm from the moment I walked in the door. The robe and slippers are soft and comfy, and you are allowed to hang around in the sunroom or sauna as long as you want before or after your treatment. The facial I had was truly wonderful and I will absolutely have it again! Nancy was professional and reserved, but friendly. She did a wonderful job of simply doing the facial, but also of helping me to relax and enjoy a totally calming and soothing experience. I also had a 60-minute relaxation massage. I don't remember the name of the woman who did my massage, but she was friendly and professional. The only complaint on the massage is that it was too light - but it was my first massage and I'm sure I should have simply told her to apply more pressure. Next time I'll try the deep tissue massage. The pedicure I had was only okay. It was a Thai beauty ritual pedicure which cost around $75 but it was really not any better a pedicure or more enjoyable than the $30 ones you can get at the mall. I won't have a pedicure there again. One final note: it is annoying that tips can only be left by cash or check. It would be much more convenient to put them on the card with the other services. As another review said, "who carries cash?" UPDATE 10/2013: I have now been back to Complexions many times and have had the deep tissue massage with several different therapists. It is a truly wonderful experience no matter who does it, but if you want really good deep pressure go with Randy. (It hurts, but is worth it if you are very stiff like I am.) From the minute we entered, peace and tranquility prevailed! Today my mother and I visited Complexions for a mother/daughter facial day! This place is truly a gem in the Capital region. The atmosphere was nothing less then relaxing and rejuvenating. The spa itself is absolutely spotless. I doubt even a dust bunny would last more then 5 minutes in this place. The women's lounge is a little small (especially when it is occupied by a giddy bridal party), but since we were only getting facials, we opted to change in our treatment rooms. We were promptly greeted by our aestheticians after our mini tour of the spa. I opted for the Acne facial with Nancy. She gave me one of the best facials of my life. I really feel like she took the time to learn about my skin and formulate the best course of therapy. She took her time and was extremely detailed. I left feeling much better and refreshed then I have in awhile!! My mother opted for the Anti-Aging facial with Megan. In her own words "It was very relaxing and Megan was a pleasure! I am a big fan of Complexions and I have used many of their services. For my wedding I rented out their special occasion room and had mine and all of the bridesmaid's hair and makeup done. The room had snacks and it was a great place to hang out while everyone was getting ready! Even with 11 people getting updos and 8 people getting makeup done it was completely on time and very well done! Chris did my hair and makeup and WOW!! I wish I could have him fix me up every morning, I felt very beautiful. I also get my hair cut there (Melanie is fantastic!) My husband finally decided to try it out because he was sick of getting bad haircuts, he found Kara the barber and is incredibly happy with her work. I have also used their massage services and it was a treat! Overall, the prices are consistent with most good spas, the atmosphere is calming, and the quality of their work is the best in the Capital District. read more

I scheduled a consultation for a chemical peel where I got a sample box to use to prepare myself for the treatment and I paid $85 thinking it was for the peel to be done the next week. When I come in the get my peel done, I am charged $95 + the $85. I called them and it took 2.5 weeks just to get in touch with the owner, Denise. They told me within three days she will call me and get the issue resolved and refund the $85. When I finally get in touch with Denise, she was extremely rude and communicating with me as if I am a baby that is not understanding the issue. She says the pre-treatment box has a worth of $50-85 that I had paid for. Now, I was never told that the consultation was not free, had I known, I would never have gone to my appointment. As I am explaining this to her, she mentions to her workers that "I am not leaving her alone." At this point, I am losing my patience, but still having hope that she will refund some of the $85, as the other manager told me I would. At the end of this phone call, she says she will call me back because a customer is waiting on her. I never get the call back, and I eventually gave up getting my money back after a total of three weeks. I don't wish to bash Denise, but after this experience, I believe this place is a money-hungry business. She is not caring towards her customers whatsoever. Extremely disappointed in her behavior. Side note: While Denise was cleansing my skin to start the treatment, she was not focusing on my skin and I felt cleanser on my lips and eventually I began to taste it... I told her this at that moment and she says she doesn't put cleanser on the lips. She is extremely careless! read more

Highly, HIGHLY recommend Jenna as a hair stylist. She is an excellent colorist. My balayage looks so natural and gave me a great cut. After four years in Albany, and many other unsuccessful attempts elsewhere (see my other reviews), I am so happy I found her. It's worth the cost. read more
