I hate writing bad reviews for independently owned companies but I feel it is my duty to warn others before considering using Ed for any computer issues. I spilled water on my 2011 Apple Macbook and last year, I had a similar unfortunate incident and Ed had fixed my computer and put in a "free" keyboard. It's not really "free" when you pay $200 for a repair. After he asked me to write a positive review on Google, I even did so to help an independent businessman like himself out. Also, water spots were still visible all over the screen which he failed to mention to me and might have stopped me from fixing it with him if I had known. Over a period of a few weeks, the water spots for the most part, resolved away by themselves. Of note, the keyboard he installed started losing some letters in less than a year too (I sure missed the letters "a", "e", "d" and "n"). What the heck? Cheap after market keyboard?? I decided to give him another chance as he is a local business and I try my best to support local independently owned businesses. This time I went over to his shop when he said he be there and he wasn't there as stated in business hours (no way to run a business even during Covid times). Ed was kind enough to come pick up my laptop at my home address. I requested a back up computer and he said he would need time to prepare a desktop computer for me. Originally it was understood the back up computer would be ready by Monday and then I hear nothing from him. He does not tell you when your computer will be ready or an estimated time of completion of work and he didn't provide me the promised back up computer for over 4 days (with no known date of when I will have my computer back fixed, it kind of defeats the purpose of having a back up computer while my laptop is at the shop for repairs). After a nasty exchange on the phone where I asked him to put my computer back together and return it, I tell him I do not want it fixed by him. He said he would return it to me the next day which he did and he apologized. This time around I brought it to an Apple approved repair shop (Better Business Bureau approved) and they sent my laptop to Apple to be fixed (they called me next day with their diagnostic and told me it would take a week as they had to ship it to Apple to repair but Apple refused to repair it as Ed had not reassembled it properly (wires were going beneath when they should have gone over, missing screws). This is the risk you take when you take it to an independent operator like Ed. TL;DR: So the gist of the story is I couldn't fix my Apple macbook because of the shoddy job Ed did. Saving some money is certainly not worth it in the long run especially when the business doesn't give you a turn-around date or better communication. Customer, beware. read more

I'm quite content that I found this shop. Even though it's not a huge warehouse like Fry's, but it's not a hole-in-the-wall place either. Relatively small and cluttered, but I got great service when looking for a good deal on a desktop computer. The one they sold me works flawlessly, and all the parts they sell are decently priced. Amazingly easy and reasonable service. Had an issue of my keyboard not fitting correctly, making the power cord on my lap top inoperable. I went to a place in Arcadia which was actually someones house and when I called got scolded for not making an appointment first. He told me to send some pictures of the damaged computer and then said he could get to it next week. Darn. Called Computer Guru and he said to come on over. I got there a few minutes later and he quoted me a very reasonable price and I got to watch him perform his magic. Great price. Great service. Great attitude. Wow great service for reasonable price! My keyboard on my macbook air was damaged from water being poured on it. I looked up prices to order the part online and he gave me an even better price. He told me to it would take a week but only took a day for the part to come in and for him to fix it. Showed up to this shop ready to get my computer fix after reading reviews, was expecting the friendly service as others had experienced. Turned out to be completely the opposite. Sour old Asian man came to the door with a bad attitude and said I'm getting ready to close. It was still 30 minutes left according to their schedule hours. I asked him, "would you like me to go somewhere else?" He said yes and showed me the door. I was in shock, here is a business owner or worker who is more concerned about closing his shop 30 minutes earlier than making his clientele happy and live up to the standards of his reviews and normal business practices. I've recently had a liquid spill on my laptop. I was desperate to find a repair shop and I did. I found a few repair shops and went to their website. After digging up information about their prices and such. This shop seemed like my last resort and I am happy with the service. I couldn't come in last Monday because, I had school the entire day. Per David Hon's (owner of Computer Guru) begging plead to me by emailing to Yelp after he read my 1-star review at Yelp's; he made an offer of $200 towards my service to call back due to his employee's outrageous conduct towards me and said, "You called the wrong number.' On 10/8/2012, I made the call to Computer Guru at the same number of (626) 450-0606 that I called on 9/29/2012. A man answered the phone, but did not announce the business' name or to greet me like the previous violent employee acted on 9/29/2012. I asked if he is David Hon, he said, "Yes, I am one of the owners." Shockingly, he told me, "I not email you, not know Yelp. No $200 offer to you" and he was very rude, hateful, provoking, slamming his phone to disconnect my call. I was cheated, humiliated and wasted time to give this man a second chance to earn my business, but he deliberately took advantage of me. If anyone says it is a "friendly" store, a red flag, that writer is suspicious and may not be a customer! I firmly stand by my original 1-star rating of Computer Guru. If I could give "0" to this despicable outfit, I would. Not only that its employees bullied me on 9/29/2012, its owner is also a bully. I have now cheated and bullied twice by its employees and then by its owner. Despite of how much he would offer to lure me again, I would never fall into his trap to allow him bully me and show no respect to customers. I have an expensive computer for repair.
