I have worked in the customer service industry for over 20 years. This business is surprisingly still in business. I paid 80 bucks to remove the data from my laptop. When I did not hear from them after five days I called to be told that I need to bring in a flash drive in order to get the data. I was told that the cost of 80 bucks was to get my data off the computer but not on a disc or usb. Which is not what was said when I brought the computer in. Horrible service not being forthcoming and explaining what your are getting with their services. The guy on the phone told me that the ball is in my court on what I wanted to do with my data. now is that how you talk to paying customers with so many other places like this in the area. Summary: This place charged me $200 to keep my laptop for 10 days and fix nothing. MANAGER WAS ALSO DISRESPECTFUL Note: While this occurred at the Laurel St storefront, I am putting it here as well since they are the same business. My laptop died roughly two weeks ago, right when I needed it most. I took it to computer zone because it was very close to my house and I need a relatively quick fix. Boy was that the wrong choice. They charged me 80 dollars right up front for the diagnostics (which made sense to me-- my laptop isn't a cheap model) but then came back and charged me 120 more the day after because "my laptop was complicated". While I'm in the store, the kid at the counter KEEPS trying to get me to turn over my phone for a screen replacement (at $250+) even though I keep telling him the one tiny crack doesn't bother me (RED FLAG). Nearly a week goes by and no one contacts me. Finally, I call them and the guy says "they're still sourcing the part" even though it's a power jack you can literally buy from amazon. A second after I hang up the phone, he calls back having "magically" just been called by their buyer. He says this part (which costs 20-45 dollars) will cost 70 plus shipping and handling, and that I need to pay those before they even order the part, which will take 5 days to arrive(RED FLAG). Next day, I go into the store and say I've found somewhere cheaper and I want my laptop back. The guy says that MY LAPTOP IS IN PIECES (aka they've been storing my expensive ass laptop in pieces) and shoos me out of the store saying I should "come back tomorrow" (RED FLAG AGAIN). Later that day, he calls me saying he doesn't want to put the laptop back together and he'll order the part and put it in and "only charge me if it works". 5 days later I get a call saying that the part didn't work, but it will still take them another 24 hours to hand my laptop back to me. That's where we are as of now------ down 200 dollars, 2 weeks without a laptop, and the one I got back is likely even more f*cked up than before. Thanks Computer Zone. read more

I dont know a whole lot about computers, I do know about honesty and customer service. I felt like I was over charged for everything and constantly talked down too. After paying the $75 fee to have them look at my computer I was told I needed a new hard drive. They charged two hours of labor (kindly discounted at $45 a hour). I watched a 9 minute youtube video of someone changing out the hard drive on my same computer. I ended up paying them $363 and I may as well have been raped. read more

Is there a 0 star choice?! Don't go here, just don't. It is more expensive than the better places and does a total half assed job. On top of that, they can't even accept that they made a mistake and apologize and refund me! I went in for a simple iPhone screen repair and the phone seemed fine, people were nice. Then, a couple hours after putting on my life proof case, I noticed a small crack in my screen! (I never dropped it) I took off the case to see what the problem was and I noticed that the corner of the screen was raised because they didn't install it correctly. Not only was there now a crack on my screen, but the phone also did not respond to my touch on the glass. I went in to get my money back and they said there was no refund on the (terrible) labor and the worker refuses to say it was their fault (even though the reason why it broke was because of a bad installation job). He said it was a faulty screen and that it was too late to return it to the factory (even if I could get money back on the "faulty" screen I would only get $20 back, max). Terrible customer service, terrible labor and an overall broken phone with $135 lost. read more

I wish I had read the reviews. AVOID THIS PLACE!! It is a rip off and very dishonest! We had a minor audio issue with our laptop. They charged us $200 dollars to "clean" the inside of it, claiming this might fix the problem. It didn't. They, instead, sold us a $50 external piece that was supposed to help with the audio. And, they sold us a new power cord, which we later realized we could have bought much cheaper online. After we got it home, it wouldn't move past the login page. What a horrible experience. These guys are not professional or friendly. When I took my computer in, they gawked and actually admitted they hadn't seen such a build (red flag #1). When I failed to receive a courtesy call in the morning as promised, I followed up with a call in the afternoon and asked for a better time estimate, to which guy replies, "its a busy industry" (red flag #2). At this point, I was not going to do business and proceeded to research other computer repair locations and approx. 15 minutes later I was back to pick up my tower. I was surprised to find out they had moved my tower to their other location downtown (red flag #3). This failure to communicate is completely unacceptable and especially since I was just on the phone with them only minutes prior. To make matters worse, they still charged me $45 and did absolutely no work, besides moving my tower from Mission Street to Laurel. So, the best part is the next place I took my computer (ClickAway Computer Repair and Verizon Wireless ClickAway Mobile) identified the issue (bad PCI slot), made the repair (moving GPU to next available PCI slot) and notified me along the way with their diagnoses. And the icing on the cake was that their register was down when I went in to pick-up so they did not charge me a dime!!! Computer Zone is a joke, don't waste your time or money. These guys have destroyed what was a once working iphone with an old battery in need of replacement. They've fumbled around for weeks (truly!, yes people need their phones) with it ,causing multiple new issues along the way. They've ordered new parts and then not called me after they've arrived and the owner literally took the phone from my hands and then straight dropped it on the floor from 4 feet up. Now after 5 separate visits the phone is just simply constantly blue screening. TL;DR- Charged $225 to reinstall operating system, charged $79 for an $8 quick fix, blatantly lied to about procedure, and altogether didn't receive any viable help ---- ---- I would avoid coming here as best as possible. Brought in a Macbook pro that wasn't registering the wifi card. Cost $75 for them to "diagnose". They decided it was a software issue so they reinstalled the operating system. $225 for labor to reinstall the operating system. That didn't work, so they decide to offer a mini usb wifi adapter for $79. I promptly looked up similar adapters on Amazon and found the same one for $8.99. The guy working there starts talking about how I'll need to do all of these other things to get this little adapter working. Drivers - went online, googled the adapter, downloaded the drivers to a usb drive, put it in the Macbook and it was good to go. I had asked why they didn't offer to change the wifi card inside and this guy tells me that he'd have to use a heat gun and pull of the glass and "it almost always breaks" when they do it. I had never tried this nor looked into changing the wifi card, so I looked it up. It turns out the wifi card is between the screen and the keyboard, so all this about heat guns and taking the glass off was a blatant lie. If you want to pay TEN TIMES the price of quick fixes, be GROSSLY OVERCHARGED for labor, don't want your computer fixed the first time or really at all, then definitely come here. These guys are completely clueless and should be removed. read more

My experience with Computer Zone was great. EVERTHING they said & did with me demonstrated they care about solving my computer problems problem and taking care of me as a client. When I phoned Computer Zone Friday evening, I was scary-angry. In a couple of sentences the very first guy I talked with, changed my mood from "everything makes me angry and I want to smash things" to "I live in good place with nice people. And my problem is solvable." Instead of wasting my time queuing my machine in line on a shelf on Laurel Street, right away I got referred to Nick on Mission St. The first guy said Nick would take good of me and Nick did. Nick scheduled machine in the shop the very next day--Saturday morning. I got it back all better, I think on Monday afternoon. When I arrived a the shop, I introduced myself . Right away Nick knew who I was, quickly recapped my needs and expectations, and sent me on my way in a very comfortable few minutes. The shop was clearly well organized, well stocked, and clean. It had a very trustworthy "good things happen here" and "this is place that takes good care of other people's stuff" vibe. After driving away and thinking about it , I was delighted to realize that, "Yes. I do feel secure leaving my computer with all my personal stuff on it in Nicks hands." I found Nick's messages in my voice-mail, very: "if you get back to me by___, and tell me your "a","b", or "c" choice, you can pick up your solved problem between __ and __." When in the store, I purposely tried NOT looking closely at very cool things to spend more money on. Even so, the public counters were enticingly covered in nice looking clean used computer-type equipment for sale. Display info was clear, informative and concise. Nick seemed knowledgeable and excited about their merchandise. HE put my need 1st and helped me refocus,along the lines of with you are hurry now, lets focus on solving your problem now, browse later when you have time to get in to it. So Helpful! I know very little about used computer stuff, but Computer Zone's used stuff struck me at a glance as both nicer than AND less expensive than similar stuff at other shops local computer repair shops. This favorable impression could in fact be based on everything else about my experience with them being wonderful. When I picked up my newly happy machine, it was the end of MY very long Monday. I was euphoric and exhausted. I raced home, skipped diner, reconnected everything, and I jumped right in like a kid racing thru the Exploratorium. Very "Hee-Hee it WORKS!!! OOH- what does THIS do?" So of course I made a big --for me--problem almost immediately. The next afternoon, Tues., when I had time, I called Nick. He talked me thru the solution over the phone several times. His instructions were perfect. I had a very ambivalent four year old attitude. Very, "Help me! I'm stuck. Ok. Oh. Oh Ok. No! Let ME DO IT." He was so patient. Finally at like 4:50pm Tues, I asked Nick, if I brought my computer and speakers back into the shop later this afternoon, could he straighten me out tonight? His answer was No; realistically it was too late in the day. I love an honest "no, your request is unrealistic" answer, followed by an adjusted expectation that is deliverable. This kind of honesty, it lets me do what I need to do. It makes me loyal. So the next day , Wed. at my convenience, I phoned-in and got more useful info similar to, "If you can drop by around____, or ___and have____ minutes, then I am pretty sure I can solve this problem and show you the other stuff too." I did. He did. Its all great now. My come-back problem had to do with sound. Nick double checked if there were any additional previously not diagnosed problems with my speakers. I had thought to bring them along to test, but had forgotten and left them in the car. This extra step of checking my speakers, before I went home, was wonderful. Because if I had got home, and had an, "ARGH! it worked for the tech but not now!" experience, I would have been crushed and ran away screaming to join the Amish. Weeks later, finally getting around to Yelping, I called to let Nick know. He still knew who I was and was still interested in helping. read more

What a dubious little shop. The guy sold me a computer power cord, which sparked, smoked, and melted almost immediately after I went home and plugged it in (using a surge protector!). I called him promptly, and he said I couldn't get a refund for it because the warranty doesn't cover "abuse." What?? Really? I plugged the power cord into my computer...that's abuse?? If so, I'm dying to know how to use it non-abusively. Am I supposed to mount it on my wall as decoration? Should I build a shrine around it and pray to it every night? Should I wrap it around my wrist to prevent arthritis? Should I strap it to my keychain as a good-luck charm, like a rabbit's foot? What the F@#k should I use it for if not to power my computer? The guy intransigently tried to muscle me into submission over the phone, trying to convince me that I "abused" the item. I had to be unshakingly defiant before he even budged, with him conceding that we could "work out a deal" when I come in the next day, and suggesting that I could come in and "pay half the amount to get a new one." Really? He sold me a dud that almost set my room on fire, and now he suggests he's kind enough to "let" me pay half to buy a new one? Don't shop here - the guy gives gypsies a bad name. read more

Computer Zone charged $899 for a non-functioning computer with a value of $200 (in perfect condition). They also lied about both the amount of RAM in the computer (falsely stated 16B, when 512 MB present) and the hard drive size (claimed 250 GB, actual capacity 160 GB. After owning the computer for four months, the Motherboard failed. Multiple specs stated on computer zone system were false. When Kevin (owner) was confronted he yelled at me -- saying I never asked to have the computer to be able to connect with Netflix. The computer could not connect to Netflix and this was his response. I ordered an iPod that didn't work. Replaced it with a brand new one, which Kevin opened (because he wanted to make sure I got all the contents. While expecting a normal response to criminal behavior he told me to never call him again. If you buy anything from this guy you're in for quite a surprise. I'm going to the police to start a criminal case. Anyone else had this type of dealing? According to Kevin everyone gets this treatment. Oh yea, all the stuff that didn't work: iPod, (speakers from the Brand New IPod Nano the speakers shorted and Nano was in Japanese, I had to have a tech reset the presets for me), Samsung Printer, Mac Computer, iPad (that I gave to my son for his birthday, that I paid retail price for. I hope that all my evidence puts this criminal behind bars and doesn't solicit to work for students that have limited cash (like me). I am stuck with worthless garbage and Computer Zone's strict policy to give exchanges but never a refund, has me with no other recourse but to take this to a legal arena and open a criminal case. READ ALL THE REVIEWS AND BEWARE. Like so many others, I can't believe this guy is even in business anymore. I went in to ask about recycling my old iMac and having the hard drive destroyed. Levi explained they offer this as a free service to their customers unless it's a CRT, and mine is not. He verified the model I have by showing me a similar one, explained what they would do to destroy the hard drive, and where the parts would end up. Great customer service from Levi. The next day when I brought my computer in, Levi wasn't in and the OWNER interrupted the young man who was helping me to tell me rudely that "There is no way I'm going to do that for you. I don't care what Levi said. I'm going to charge you 1 hour shop minimum of $89." I thought I must have had a miscommunication with Levi, so I started to go over what I had heard, and he rudely and angrily interrupted me to tell me once again he did not care, he would not do it. I told him calmly that not honoring the arrangements I had made the day before would mean a permanent loss of my business. And guess what? In case I wasn't yet clear about it, he told me again "That's fine; I don't care." The young man who works for him helped me to my car with the computer, apologizing profusely and clearly embarrassed over his boss's inexcusably bad behavior. The uncalled for anger of the owner, Kavin Hamerz, is troubling, and after checking reviews here, how he makes enough money to stay in business with employees to pay is troubling also. read more
