Spicy Mango 405 Frenchmen St, New Orleans, LA 70116 #tonylameats After knocking out a 3K run with the crew at @NOLA MILES CLUB, a few foodie friends and I made a spontaneous stop at Spicy Mango, and OMGAWD, what a hidden gem in the Frenchmen Street area. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere set the tone. The perfect blend of New Orleans energy and Caribbean flavors makes this a great spot for date night, a celebration, or just treating yourself to something different. Huge shoutout to our waitress D'Nyra for making the experience even better with her hospitality, recommendations, and great conversation. Every dish we tried delivered, and honestly, there wasn't a single miss all night. Here's what we ordered: 1. Whole Jerk Chicken. 2. Mango Habanero Wings. (Favorite) 3. Shrimp Ceviche with Mango, Avocado and Tostada chips. 4. Red Bean Oxtail (Favorite) Fusion Alert! New Orleans style red beans slow cooked and infused with the rich flavors of island oxtails. 5. Braised Oxtails (Favorite) Stewed oxtails in a jerk reduction. 6. Flaming Branzino Grilled Branzino in jerk butter and flambéed table side. 7. Yuca Fries. 8. Plantains. (Favorite) 9. Jerk Mac N cheese. If you're looking for bold Caribbean flavors, amazing service, and a memorable dining experience in New Orleans, put Spicy Mango on your list. Tonylameats Approved

I had really high hopes for Spicy Mango based on all of the reviews! Here's what Spicy Mango gets right: 1) Ambiance! Such a cute spot for date night or friends. We sat on the outdoor patio and it was stunning. We loved the vibes, spacing, and greenery! 2) Service. We felt welcomed from the moment we stepped into the door. We felt valued and seen. We arrived a little early for our reservation and they accommodated us anyway. Service is big for me, especially in times when I feel so many places are lacking in this area. Alex also took great care of us. He was attentive and explained the dishes well. He was fun and personable. Thanks for being great, Alex! 3) The Oxtails! Chef's kiss! Absolutely delicious, and if we were to return, we'd get that dish again. This was our favorite thing that we tried. The branzino was also pretty good. Here's where I'd give this less than 5 stars. 1) Our food (particularly the oxtail) didn't come out hot. We're usually not one to send back a dish, but we did in this case given the price point. They did correct this however, and the dish came back hot and tasty. 2) A few items listed on the menu were unavailable. I hate when this happens. It's a pretty rare occurrence, but when you're traveling in from out of town, this is a bit disappointing. 3) Pricing for some items felt a bit steep for what we got. We left spending a pretty penny but not necessarily feeling it was worth it. Other reviews: We ordered shrimp ceviche as an app which was good though a bit quite spicy for my palate and smaller than I expected for the price. We had also initially ordered some cabbage to go with the entrees, but when we learned the cabbage was spicier, we cancelled the order. We also ordered joshi bread but I thought this was a bit underwhelming. The guava butter helped it taste a little better. Overall, this spot was a 4 out of 5 for me. The ambiance, oxtail and great service saved the experience for us.

When I am the only, or nearly the only, person who looks like me in a place, I know I'm in the right place. This is a hopping place. They had several reservations open earlier in the night, but we had a show beforehand and didn't know what time it would get out . . . so we kept putting it off until there were no more reservations. We arrived probably around 9:30-ish. They stay open til midnight on the weekends (10 PM weeknights, closed Tuesday). There was a pretty good line in front of us, maybe 15 people, and an efficient doorman was keeping everyone organized. We got lucky because we were a party of two and could sit at the bar, so we were in within minutes. The staff here mean business and keep things running smoothly. The bar is beautiful. The whole restaurant is beautiful. And they have a gorgeous outside portion with a separate bar. Would love to eat out there sometime. This is a Caribbean Creole fusion restaurant, using jerk and Creole spices and tropical fruits. I had an oxtail dish served with hearty, spicy beans. All oxtail is on the bone, but this was so tender it came right now. So many complex flavors. It was delish. Unfortunately due to the low lighting (ambiance after all), the photo of my dish didn't turn out. My husband had the jerk chicken sandwich and thought it was outstanding. He can't wait to go back again. For sides/apps to share, we had their riff on elote and the ooey gooey jerk mac n cheese. There was nothing that fell short of scrumptious. Or in a better and more modern term, bussin. They also have paella, island curry chicken, Branzino, jerk chicken, scoveitch (marinated whole fried snapper--and they mean whole, I saw this thing come out to some tables and it's a fish on a plate, albeit beautifully presented). I think the menu changes from time to time because the online menu doesn't have everything we had on it. I think if I could get those juicy, tender, tantalizing oxtail and jerk dishes out of my head, I would love to try the street fruit salad. Mango, pineapple, radish microgreens, seasonal mango. Chamoy sauce. Salty, sweet, sour, spiced. I bet it would explode on my tastebuds. Drinks were fantastic. I'm sure their drink menus change as well, but I've included photos of what they had available during our visit. We had the Caribbean cough syrup (whiskey, ginger, honey, lemon) and the bujwah (rum, passionfruit liqeuer, lime, simple syrup, and coconut ginger beer. I asked the bartender for a good to-go drink and he made me the West Indies French 75, made with d'usse (cognac partially owned by Jay Z), simple syrup, lemon juice, Caribbean bitters, and sparkling sauvignon blanc. Bubbly, rich, fruity. It was the perfect refresher for the walk back to our hotel. Just like the food, all the drinks have a Caribbean/spicy/tropical lean. Service was absolutely brilliant. He was a dapper, talented, professional bartender who made great suggestions and even better drinks. Of note, when we were at the Elysian Bar (reviewed separately) and the bartender there said Spicy Mango is on his list to visit because all of his colleagues have raved about their excellent cocktail program. Also of note, this place is NOT cheap. After the appropriate tip (the man deserved an above average tip), our bill was 347 bucks. But you pay for the quality. And the gentrification of oxtail has driven the price up. I'm glad I am got to enjoy it at the right place, from the right people. Spicy Mango is a vibe.

We were staying at an airbnb near this place and wish we had spent more time here! Every night we walked back from the French Quarter, this place was packed with a line down the street. Lots of great music coming from the enclosed garden area outside too. Unfortunately, we never got to experience that scene, maybe next time. We stopped in before dinner and loved the interior with the lights, faux tree at the entry, and beautiful bar. We had drinks at the outdoor patio bar and were astounded by the craft cocktails our bartender produced. Our drinks were lit on fire, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon, and doused in beautiful embellishments. Next time we visit NOLA, we'll definitely be adding this to our list for dinner and partying.

Spicy Mango on Frenchmen Street was such a great find. The food was absolutely amazing and the ambiance was on point; really elevated the whole experience. Only thing I would've loved is a bit of Caribbean music to match the vibe, but overall it didn't take away from how much I enjoyed it. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in New Orleans.

Super cute inside so we had to get a pic

I really enjoyed my dining experience here. Typically when I'm in New Orleans, I always make it a point to visit Morrow's, but they're closed for construction, so I decided to visit spicy mango, which is owned by the same owner. The food here is a fusion of creole and Caribbean, which works really well together. The ambience is super aesthetic and they have a nice patio in the back as well. We tried the corn ribs and the habanero mango wings as the appetizer in both were really delicious and the wings weren't too spicy. We all enjoyed our entrées as well, and I really enjoyed their version of the French 75 cocktail. My friend Tried their capahirina cocktail and told them she didn't want it too sweet, but when she got it, she found it was a little on the sweet side and asked to take it back. They almost didn't take it off the bill, maybe they've had issues with people trying to eat and drink things and not take it off the bill? But once the manager came over and saw my friend clearly didn't drink more than a sip, they took it off, which we appreciated. I guess the point is, don't eat a much of your food and decide you don't like it halfway through because they definitely don't play that. I guess it's also important to note that this was one of the pricey meals we had in NOLA. Lastly , our server was super sweet and accommodating. Having a late night reservation here and then going straight to Frenchman Street for live music makes were a perfect New Orleans evening

This restaurant was highly recommended and I can see why. Make sure you have reservations!! They can easily be made on OpenTable The restaurant has an chic feel especially outside and our waitress was more than accommodating and pretty knowledgeable of the menu Ordered the escovitch Snapper - It comes whole and can feed two. It was seasoned well but I didn't care for the red sauce at the bottom really didn't taste like much and there were barely any pickling veggies The oxtail dirty rice was fine mostly flavoring barely any meat Cabbage was well seasoned it was enough for two people get a side of The spicy Mango Margarita was good but came w/ a topping of Cinnamon which I did not ask for Overall it was a good experience and a one & done. The food is fairly pricey & the portion size for the sides could be better. 8/10

First off I recommend making reservations if you can . It didn't take long to be seated and while it wasn't crowded, the people were coming! Enjoyed the over vibe of the restaurant. The inside is very intimate, not a lot of bright light. Loved the faux mango tree in the middle of the restaurant. When we walked in though, the hostess did seem annoyed...not at us but their energy and face just gave "I'm annoyed". Didn't impact my experience though, I'd still go back. It was a beautiful day so we ended up sitting outside at least until the rain started. Our server Corey was amazing. He answered all our questions and made great recommendations, appreciated his honesty about some dishes I was considering since I really did want to order the entire me menu. Now for the most important part...THE FOOD!! Escovitch red snapper 9/10: seasoned well and a nice portion size - I mean it is the WHOLE fish. For the price I wish it came with a side though. I asked for hot sauce but didn't have it so I received a mango habanero hot sauce instead. It was homemade and was very spicy but good. I ate the fish to the bones! Braised oxtails 8.5/10: a little salty, good portion and flavor. Seasoned well and meaty. Serve with rice included not on the side. For the price would like it to come with more than just rice. Oxtail Mac and cheese 9/10: Mac was nice and creamy and plenty of oxtail. It is considered a side so a little expensive but was filling. Had red and yellow peppers which complimented the dish well. Cabbage 9/10: very well seasoned left the jerk kit. Nice portion size for a regular side. I wasn't expecting the carrots, but they did complement the cabbage very well. It wasn't overly juicy and just the right consistency. The cabbage wasn't mushy or anything. Plantins 8/10: these were also a nice portion size for a regular side. I didn't add the Crema or cheese because it really doesn't need it in my personal opinion. They were a little greasy so I wish they came on like something to absorb the grease so it wasn't sitting in grease at the bottom. But overall, I would get these again.

After 15+ years of regularly coming to New Orleans, this is one of our favorite new discoveries. Spicy Mango feels like a perfect addition to the city. It's got that Tulum/Miami energy--airy, coastal, music going, and the whole place feels like it's building into a night out. The food is classic Jamaican, just in a more elevated setting--and it really delivers. Think braised oxtail, stewed curry chicken, jerk chicken, escoveitch (whole fish), dirty rice... all super flavorful. And the spicy stewed cabbage was honestly one of the best I've had anywhere. It definitely leans cocktail-forward--they're pushing the mango margaritas. A little sweet for me personally, but the flaming presentation is a whole moment. I did appreciate that they also had a good dry Riesling on the list, which actually pairs really well with the spice. The crowd is part of it--everyone's dressed up, looking good, and clearly heading out after. Makes sense since you're right on Frenchmen. And the service really stood out--genuinely friendly across the board, from security at the door to the host to the server. Would 100% come back.

I've had great experiences at Spicy Mango. I am typically seated immediately on the patio since I always forget to do a reservation. Lessons learned here because as the weather gets hotter, I'd like to dine inside so a reservation in a must. The food service is always timely and pleasant. The ceviche, Jerk chicken mac and cheese and Flaming Branzino are my go to dishes. Recently there was an increase in parking fee near the restaurant. I don't mind spending money but $45 for 2 hours was a bit shocking especially since I met a friend there who rode separate and paid the same amount. So be prepared to spend on parking and on the restaurant. The restaurant is worth it though. I typically get upset at Caribbean restaurants in the city who just don't understand flavors beyond NOLA flavors but this place has mastered that.

Okay, sit tight because what I'm about to say is not an exaggeration, this place is INCREDIBLE. The Cajun-Jamaican fusion at Spicy Mango is absolutely mind-blowing. In full transparency, I did not capture nearly enough photos because I was starving and after the first bite I entered food heaven and forgot the outside world existed. We ordered: * Shrimp ceviche (bright, fresh, addictive) * Mango habanero wings (perfect heat with that sweet kick, SO good) * Red bean oxtail with rice and peas (my personal favorite ...succulent, falling-off-the-bone tender, and that red bean sauce? Unreal.) * Braised oxtails (also phenomenal) * Jerk chicken (deep flavor, beautifully spiced) * Rice and peas (cooked to absolute perfection) * Jerk chicken sandwich (yummy) * Spicy mango margaritas (dangerously good) Everything was layered, bold, and deeply comforting in a way I didn't even realize I needed. This wasn't just good food, it was the kind of meal that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. It's been a long time since I've had flavors this rich, this intentional, and this satisfying. The ambiance is magical: warm, vibrant, and full of joy. The service? Top tier. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely happy to be there. I even met the chef (who happens to share my name!), which made the experience even sweeter. This is a must-have in NOLA.

Stopped by Spicy Mango recently. The ambiance was nice and the overall vibe was solid. Our waitress was great -- attentive, friendly, and did her job well. Unfortunately, the food just didn't hit for me. A lot of the dishes had a heavy charbroil taste that overpowered the flavors. It wasn't balanced, and it took away from what should've been enjoyable dishes. Service and atmosphere were good. The food just wasn't for me.

I absolutely love Sun Chong, so I wanted to try another one of Larry Morrow's restaurants. I've heard great things about Spicy Mango, so Valentine's Day felt like the perfect time to check it out. When we pulled up, it was freezing outside. My date dropped me off at the door, and I noticed two people waiting outside with security. I stood behind them, assuming they were waiting because the restaurant was full. A couple minutes later, security let the couple in ahead of me and asked if I had a reservation. I told him yes. He went inside to confirm, came back out, and then let me in. What stood out is that once I got inside, there was no one standing at the hostess area. On such a cold night, allowing someone with a reservation to step inside while they wait does not seem unreasonable. Maybe this is just their standard process, but standing outside in heels and a dress in that weather was not ideal. Now let's talk ambiance. The vibe is beautiful. It definitely gives Caribbean energy and feels like you're somewhere far from New Orleans. There's a huge string sign in the dining room that says "The Tone," which I really liked. The aesthetic is strong. However, it is extremely dark. I could not see the menu without using my phone flashlight. The music was also very loud, to the point where I could barely have a conversation with my date. Romantic in theory, but if you can't hear each other, it becomes more nightclub than dinner. The restroom situation was interesting. The waitress had to show me where it was because it's far. You actually have to walk outside across uneven brick pavement to get there. In heels. In freezing weather. I was just relieved that the bathroom itself was clean, but that walk is not pleasant. As for the food, this is where things went downhill for me. We ordered an appetizer that was described as charred elote. What we received tasted less "charred" and more completely burnt. Now, if that's intentional and part of the style, then maybe it just isn't my preference. But it tasted overwhelmingly burnt rather than flavorful. For our entrée, we ordered a steak dish that arrived literally on fire at the table. Visually, it was dramatic and exciting. Unfortunately, once the flame went out and we tasted it, it also had that same heavy burnt flavor. It was hard to enjoy. We ended up eating the cabbage and rice sides together as our main meal because those were actually good. I'll be honest. If that deep char is authentic Caribbean style, then maybe Caribbean cuisine just isn't for me. But for my personal taste, both the appetizer and steak were too burnt to enjoy. Overall, the aesthetic is strong, the vibe is unique, and the restaurant definitely has presence. But between the security process, the extreme darkness, the loud music, the long bathroom walk, and the burnt flavors, I left disappointed. I wanted to love it. I really did. Maybe it was an off night. Maybe it's just not my palate. But Valentine's Day dinner should feel warm in more ways than one.

The presentation of the food came was amazing. We ordered the linguine and added meatballs, which was well worth it. We also ordered the shrimp & grits, which included Brussels sprouts. Boy, it was sure nice to get some vegetables in my stomach after eating all that yummy fried food during our stay! All in all, both dishes were delicious. It is a little on the pricey side, but after several days of eating in the touristy area of the French Quarter, this was truly a welcome change. Service was polite and attentive. I always appreciate the staff's efforts by making simply making eye contact and smiling (which they did). Seems trivial but I think those small things says a lot about a business. I would recommend this restaurant even if you are not a guest of the hotel.

The ambiance is amazing, plus velvet, emerald and sapphire tone, glitzy, and feels like a good photo op. The bar and cocktail menu looked expansive. However, I was going to be hopping on a meeting, so I could not partake, unfortunately. A group got this impressive tower of espresso martini and everyone seemed to be enjoying their drinks! I wanted that New Orleans seafood but had late lunch, so I opted for just the crispy gulf shrimp on cheesy grits. I really wished I can hungrier because the dish ended up being very heavy. The shrimp were nice and crispy. The charred Brussels sprouts gave me the false sense that this was a healthy dish because I was getting my veggie intake. The bacon jam was sweet and went well with the Brussels sprouts. I loved the combination of the cheesy grits and the Crystal hot sauce. It was the perfect amount of both and some how led me to understand why Americans put hot sauce on their Mac n cheese and some other cheesy dishes after 30 years of not really understanding the attraction to that combo. I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price. I think this is a fine place if you're looking for a photogenic night out drinking with a group of friends. Could be really cute for brunch!

Words simply cannot express how much I continue to be blown away by the exquisite quality of food,…read morebeverage, service, and uncommon hospitality demonstrated and perfectly executed by this New Orleans establishment. My wife and I visited on our first NoLa trip together about 4 years ago and make it a point to go every time now. Our first time we stopped in for lunch at the bar and had an excellent experience, and decided to return. We came back on the next trip just to grab a drink and a snack before heading down for dinner in the Bywater. The bartender (Chris) gave a bunch of recommendations for places to visit that way, all of which we have done in the past few trips and have loved. But it's this past trip where we were truly blown away. We were in town for JazzFest and after walking back to the French Quarter, we were thinking about food options and decided to take a gamble to see if we could get a seat at the bar or maybe grab a drink for the road before getting food somewhere else. The bar was full when we got there around 8/8:15, but they had a no show and could serve us, as long as we ordered quickly and were ok with the check hitting the table right at 9PM. Given our slightly (perhaps generous) inebriated state from being at the festival all day and being slightly underdressed, we felt this was quite a kind accommodation. With the clear expectations of needing to get our orders in quickly, we wasted no time making a decision on our drinks and a few food options. Despite this need for a quick turn around, at no time did we feel rushed. The food and drinks were absolutely perfect, as they always are. But what impressed us most was the staff. At no point did the hostess or wait staff seem annoyed by us, despite us parachuting in from a music festival and looking like sunburn and poor decisions. By managing expectations on the front end, we never felt rushed despite the need for a quick turn around. They were all lovely, professional, and as cordial as if we were regulars with standing reservations once a week. In terms of atmosphere, it is always perfect: lively and fun for a date night, dinner with friends/family, or just a nice drink before a night out and about. I truly cannot begin to explain how much I love this restaurant and every experience I've had there. The awards and accolades this establishment (a sincere and lofty term Jewel of the South truly deserves) have been awarded are beyond well earned. Restaurants around the country should aspire to provide the quality of food, service, and overall hospitality Jewel of the South provides on a regular basis. It will continue to be our first and foremost recommendation to anyone we know who is going to New Orleans. Bravo! We shall return!

Charming patio, and beautiful intimate interior with just 4 seats at the gorgeous bar and about 6 small tables inside. The cocktail menu is seasonal, and this spring, many were tea infused. I had the Columbina with gin, jasmine tea pear verdita, boomsma and lemon, and my husband had the Jewel sazerac - both exquisite. We shared 5 small plates - the crawfish bread - crawfish inside a crispy, flaky croissant like bread - OMG deliciousness. Then the tufa crudo - so fresh and flavorful, the crab tartlets - fine, but not as good as the other dishes; excellent salad, and the broccolini in a housemade horseradish goat cheese sauce - wow; one of the best broccolini dishes we have had. The carrots looked amazing, too. What a treat!

Whether sitting at the bar, or in one of the many lounge chairs on the opposite wall, every seat is an excellent. While I knew of the drink French 75, on the bar menu it was offered with either gin or cognac. I decided to try the cognac and so glad I did. Perfectly delicious! It turns out that drink is actually a French 125, so I learned something new that night. Great spot with a great vibe.

While the Sazerac wasn't invented here, this is arguably its most iconic home, a place where New Orleans cocktail history comes to life. I would use this version as your gold standard when dining out in New Orleans and looking for a perfect Sazerac. We enjoyed watching bartender Rachel craft each drink. Rye whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, and sugar are stirred in a small pitcher with ice. The serving glass is chilled, then emptied, and finished with an absinthe rinse along the rim. The cocktail is strained into the glass and topped with a lemon peel. The atmosphere makes the experience even better. The murals, the history, and the energy of the room give it a sense of occasion that you do not get at most bars. We had such a great time sitting at the bar that my wife and I each finished two and a half Sazeracs, which tells you everything you need to know.

The Apothecary was the cure. We grabbed seats mid bar and before we even finished settling in, there were waters waiting on the bar. That simple move already separated this place from the chaos outside. It's hospitality in its cleanest form: welcome in, take a breath, we got you. Inside is low light and old time apothecary mood, menus like a spellbook, but it's not gimmicky. The bartenders move like they've done the reps. Calm. Precise. No frantic showboating, no syrupy cover ups, no sloppy pours even with the parade energy banging on the door. We ordered two and they were both dead on. Alchemist Elixir: pea flower gin, elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon. It shows up pale violet with an orchid on the rim and yes it's pretty, but it's also disciplined. Floral without tasting like perfume. Bright without being sour. A drink that makes you slow down. Plus a magic chemists surprise. Corpse Reviver #2: local gin, Lillet Blanc, Grand Marnier, absinthe, fresh lemon. Cold, crisp, citrus first, then the herbal edge and just enough absinthe to remind you what city you're in. Served in a textured coupe with a cherry skewer, details handled like they actually matter. Outside, the streets were selling amnesia in plastic souvenir cups. Inside, The Apothecary was serving adults. Let Bourbon Street keep the grenades. Give me the anecdote .
