For limited options in the area, this is the best. This is a large hotel and they do offer very spacious rooms. They also have an indoor pool, and large lobby to relax. Staff is friendly and we did not encounter any issues here. I just have to say how extremely outdated this place is, and the rooms especially need to be updated. In fact those should be a priority. No USB charging ports, the sink & tub had so many scratch marks after YEARS of varying guests, and the general decor was forest green & maroon, it was a little on the dark side. The bed was comfortable and our room did come with a microwave, medium size flat screen TV & mini fridge. What was odd is the room had an iron it in, but no ironing board. We stayed there last night and left today. our bill was $214.48. I wouldn't have minded paying that IF, both bed skirts weren't ripped, the room was a bit cleaner, the bedspread wouldn't have been soiled and it would have been really nice IF I could have showered before leaving or at least brushed my teeth. we had no water in our room!!! Couldn't find anyone at the desk and couldn't find them at checkout, I left the room keys on the desk as did another couple. The sheets and comforter were very stained and didn't look clean. Very skimpy on soap, shampoo, etc. I asked them to come in and have my room done for the day and asked them to stock it with toilet paper etc as well. All they did was make the beds. They advertise "daily housekeeping" and definitely didnt honor that. We gave an entire week of business and they wouldn't even give me a late check out on our last morning. read more

I have family in Owosso so I stay at this hotel quite a bit. I've always been happy but after this last time, unfortunately I won't be back. I checked into my room and got in bed. I've been staying at the Comstock Inn for year's. My recent visit was much different. The hotel shows it's age. I think part of the hotel is use as a homeless shelter. The type of program the government provides but the people were rather nice. My family no longer lives in Owosso so it will probably be my last stay. read more

We recently had my son's wedding near this hotel. The hotel screwed up many reservations, left several guest without rooms and were not easy to work with. On the day of the wedding myself and my sons were told we had to leave our rooms because they did not have us down for reservations for both nights. So as we were trying to get dressed for the wedding they wanted us to leave, when we had reserved the rooms for two nights. They even threatened to call the police and have us arrested because we would not leave. The person at the desk refused to call her n the manager for something he clearly could not handle. Fortunately some of the wedding guest staying there made other accommodations so we were able to get a room. The rooms are outdated and old. The towels and bedsheets were stained and dirty. I wouldn't recommend this place for anything. This type of problems and the manager was no where to be found. And the staff was incapable of solving the problems. read more

Looks can be deceiving. Outside looks good along side of the lobby. We were on the 3rd floor Business Suite and the suite was dirty, tub had mold around the faucet, lampshade was cracked, bathroom smelled like urine and the mini fridge small freezer compartment had ice build up 2 inches thick. This hotel & conference center is old and needs some well deserved TLC. We finally decided to relocate to East Lansing where we found a 4.5 star hotel which was cleaner & well maintained. My room wasn't ready until an hour past check-in, and when I was finally able to occupy it, the smell of cleaning product was almost intoxicating. I knew it was because someone had smoked in there and they had probably spent that extra time trying to air out the room and cover the smell of smoke. When my one year old woke me up that night the cleaning smells gave way to full on smoke smell. It was uncomfortable to put it lightly. I complained to the front desk and was worried they wld try to keep my deposit which was supposed to deter ME from smoking in my smoke scented room. Thankfully they did not. I would have expected a room change but there was a convention so I understand they were booked. No discount, but oh well. I get that they're trying their best to deter smoking, and wld offer 3 stars for the friendly staff, HOWEVER 1: the restaurant where we'd invited our family to meet for dinner was closed and no one told us 2: there were someone else's PANTS and wrappers under the bed skirts and 3: the lobby (which was admittedly nice for my daughter to run around) was infested with ants! They got all over my little one and when I told the front desk she didn't even come to see where they were, but shrugged and said they'd tried to get rid of them but couldn't. Altogether, I'm sorry but they don't deserve a third star. Do yourself a favor and check out Airbnb. There are a couple of really cute places in Owosso. We stayed in a loft last summer that was incredibly comfortable and just gorgeous! If it had been available we would have gotten it this time too. We will not be back. read more

Had planned to stay the weekend. But only stayed one night in the hotel. The room was a king suite. On entering the room the smell of urine was strong. There was "hair" all over the bathroom. We had to use the pull out couch. The mattress had no cover sheet. It was stained and gross. Room was dusty. The tv remote was broke and the tv itself was too small for the room. Not really an issue, just an observation. For the $$$ my hopes were much higher. The main reason for posting a negative review is when I went down to the front fest and made my very legitimate compliant about the urine smell. The young desk attendant said " not much we can do about it now. You can ask them to clean it in the morning or just go to Wal-Mart and by some spray." That sealed the deal. If I didn't need a rm I would have left right then and there. It out a damper on what should have been a great weekend coming "home" to spend money and participate in the Octoberfest. Instead, I woke up at 530am and drive 3 hrs home. Owosso is still a great town. Just sad to see what could be a jewel end up being a turd. read more

I would like to report my extreme hurt and upset at the treatment that my family and I received from the Comstock Inn during our four night stay from Feb 16th through the 20th. My Uncle passed away and in turn I brought my mother back to her home state all the way from Virginia to pay her final respects and say goodbye. I also brought my children with me. My cousin noted that the Comstock Inn would be a fine place to stay so I made reservations prior to leaving VA. I was told that they required my debit card to hold the rooms and nothing further. Upon arrival we were checked in to room 203. Before we could even unpack the car, a man named Travis informed me that he checked me into the wrong room. So then he sent me and my family to the other side of the Inn on Floor #2. Room 239 in fact. When we took the elevator up to the room, the air was full of dust and there were massive tarps laying over the floor providing not only a tripping hazard but it was hard to move the dolly over. There were paint and wall scrapings everywhere and in fact the hall looked as if it had recently been bombed. I was in NO way warned that there were "renovations" taking place. Not when I made the reservations, and not when we were checking in. Upon check in I was told there was some "light painting" taking place and to be careful with the walls. I assure you, this was in NO way, light painting. My mother was so distraught that I went down stairs and demanded to be moved to the other side. Which we had come to find was clean. I even asked Travis "Would you want to stay here?" His answer was a head shake and a prompt No Ma'am. Travis moved us to room 207. The light bulb was missing inside of the door but you know what? I was okay with this. Anything was better than what was on the other side waiting for us. Inside there was 1 single chair, for the four of us to share. The rooms looked absolutely nothing like the website portrayed. Again... I let it go. We bought our own toilet paper even, and our own water, we were very quiet and efficient and other than me asking when I could speak with a Manager, I just occasionally waved at the desk clerks in passing. The next day, my husband called me and sent me pictures through text message of our bank account. Why is this? Well, it's because not only had our account already been charged once, $427 for our stay, but nine minutes later we'd been charged again... $326. Both charges stated that they were pending, however because it was directly from our bank account and NOT a credit card, the money had already been pulled from our account, no longer available for use. I immediately spoke to the desk clerk again, this time it was Travis, who we had already gotten to know just a little. He looked up the information and declared politely that we had not been charged, but again... I assure you, that we had been. I provided the pictures, to which he seemed very perplexed by and then he adopted a "kicked puppy" face and said he just didn't know what to do. I said Travis, stop looking like a kicked puppy. Travis responded with, "Well, I kind of feel like a kicked puppy." At this point I just said hey, when is management going to be available? Travis told me Monday. Another desk clerk Nate come monday mentioned that the manager was not there. Maroun Kneiher is the mans name on the business card. But other than having a name, this mystery man is no where to be found. EVER. Additionally, after reading other peoples reviews, I very quickly came to realize that I am not the only one having issues reaching management. I became afraid in fact... and started watching closer for a manager. To no avail unfortunately. On Monday Morning I took my mother and my children to my Uncle Tims funeral in Perry. We were gone for about 3 hours. When we left our room the hall was clean and clear. Upon our return... the mess from the other side of floor 2 had unfortunately followed us. I took a video on my phone of what awaited us. There were strips of green carpet with 1 inch staples protruding from all sides. There were power tools. There was even a razor laying in the window over looking the lobby. There were tarps strewn about and the walls had been sanded down or stripped up. Wall vents were laying about and when you breathed the air, you could taste the dust. At this point, to be honest... I was just in shock. SHOCK. My mom went to lay down, she couldn't deal with the mess. And frankly speaking, she shouldn't have needed to deal with the mess. By Checkout, I demanded to speak with the manager, again was denied. I told them I would not leave the lobby until I spoke to the manager and was threatened that I would be removed by the police if I did not. It has been one month since this occurred, I've yet to hear from the manager. I actually question at this point whether or not the man actually exists or is just a name on a card. DO NOT go here. We live in the area, was here for an event. Room was very clean. Our bed was very uncomfortable, didn't sleep well at all. Pillows were nice though! Curtain wouldn't shut all the way. Staff was awesome, hotel was very clean! Heated pool? Nope it was FREEZING! Exercise room? Nope no equipment at all! Our room took forever to heat up, especially the bathroom. Coat rack was too low for fancy dresses. Wi-fi in room was very slow! Only had two towels, two wash cloths & two hand towels.... Felt like I was being limited towel. Over all I wasn't impressed of the room, for all the hype you hear in the community. The hotel lobby was very nice & costumer service was great! Breakfast was small but comparable to other hotels. The wifi here is the worst I have ever seen. The speed is worse than dial-up and constantly drops connections which makes it impossible to get any work done. When I let the front desk know they admitted that they know it's bad but told me that their manager didn't really care so they wouldn't fix it. The toilets don't flush half the time, housekeeping didn't replace any of our used supplies, empty the trash, or make the beds, and the walls are super thin. This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in and I would recommend avoiding it at all costs. read more

***DO NOT STAY HERE!*** I have stayed at this hotel multiple times and never had an issue. However this past weekend was the complete opposite. I ate the free breakfast at 9:45 am and by 2 pm I had the worst diarrhea in my life and by 3 pm I was throwing up nonstop until 10:30 that night. Being in the medical field I knew that I had food poisoning due to the nonstop vomit and diarrhea. I had called down to the front desk to see if housekeeping could bring me more towels and clean trash bags because I had gotten sick and the kid at the front desk said sorry we don't have housekeeping right now. So I returned home early from my little vacation and I was very upset. I just got off the phone with the manager to tell him I was unhappy with my stay and he was so rude, said that no way did I have food poisoning and Im a liar and that I just didn't want to pay for my room and then hung up the phone on me. Horrible customer service!!! And due to the "renovations" being done, the hotel didn't look any different than when I stayed there any other time the past 3 years. We've been traveling from out of state and staying at the Comstock since it opened, 20-some years ago. It's been like a home away from home. However, over the years ownership has changed several times and the air of class the Comstock used to carry has now become one of chintz. The management of late particularly just isn't up to par. We find this very sad. Recently, we stayed a weekend in December 2017 and once again this weekend. For both weekends the hotel was under renovation and posted "excuse our dust" signs. Renovations are necessary and I'm a tolerant woman, but really, the "dust" they presented to the public was ridiculous. How long does it take to vacuum the elevator once or twice a day? Or the breakfast area? The lobby/breakfast area was stacked high with worn, dirty mattresses that made one wonder if they're going to be moved back into the rooms? For the sake of appearances, these should NOT be stored in the public's view. They looked horrible. And if you must (really, though, must you?) store rolled carpets, wood trim, and other supplies, in this area, why not arrange things in an orderly manner? This weekend we stayed in a "renovated" room. It reeked of cheapness. The furniture is already chipped. The desk drawers rubbed on their tracks, requiring force to open and close them. The dresser door wouldn't stay shut. The baseboard tile in the bathroom didn't have a bullnose finish edge, so an unprofessional raw edge was exposed. The paint job was horrible, with paint left on the bathroom sink, tiles, and contrasting walls. Our room had not been supplied with enough toilet paper or kleenex. There was no coffee for the coffee machine. Previously, the hotel provided a notebook with helpful info and area attractions. This was no longer available. Neither were the handy notepad and pen. When we stayed in December the waffle maker was acting up. This weekend, there was no waffle maker; instead they offered cheap, processed toaster waffles. Please Comstock, get back on your game and give us the quality we've long associated with your name. You can no longer rely on being the only hotel in town and your convenient location may soon not be enough to maintain our loyalty. read more

We recently rented the presidential suite. No thanks. It appeared put together. But then I took a shower and there were pubic hairs every where. On the wall, almost on the ceiling, on the curtains. It was CRAZY disgusting. We told the front desk. And they said we can give you 25% off .Oh...ok. It was absolutely dreadful. Anyway the elevators clearly have not been wiped down in years. The entire place has so much potential yet you can tell nothing is really cleansed the way it should be. I would never ever stay there again. Loyal customer lost due to New Manager, extremely poor customer service I stay at this hotel once or twice a year. This year I was staying with friends for a class reunion. The reservation was made by one of my friends and I was the one to check in first. Upon arriving I was told we didn't have a reservation. But yet our name kept coming up in their system. Finally, we learned that our reservations had been booked for September 2018 even though we made it for September 2017. They had us staying in a block of rooms for a wedding even though we told them it was for a class reunion. My friend didn't receive a confirmation so she called back a day later. Our error was not noting 2018 on the confirmation. The hotel had rooms available, but not the type we reserved. We booked 2 rooms as there were 4 of us. Our room rate was $85 per room. The manager basically told me it our our fault because we didn't catch their error. He was disrespectful and his customer service is non existent. Finally, after much back and forth he rented us a room with a king bed and we had 2 roll away beds brought in. He gave us $50 off the normal $209 that room rents for. He knew we didn't have a choice since I had arrived in town with no where to stay. It seemed he was more concerned with getting rooms rented for as much as he could rent them for than satisfying a customer. When we checked out the next morning, my friend that made the reservations expressed her disappointment with how he handled the situation as she could hear my conversation with him since I had her on the phone. He acted like he didn't know what she was talking about. He didn't "recognize" me even though we had this 30 minute interaction just the day before. I guess if he doesn't recognize me then this event never happened?? At the class reunion later that evening as the four of us retold the story, we learned a lot of people are unhappy with this property now. This wasn't the first time the people living in the Owoss/Corunna area have heard negative things about the current manager. That is unfortunate as it used to be a nice place to stay. Staff was friendly. Nevertheless, I did ask for an extra blanket and the night staff associate told us there was an extra one. Correct. But I asked for another one. Regardless of why, I asked for one and was not obliged. Also, it's not pleasant to go in a bathroom to take a shower and not have proper vents and due to no vents being in the bathroom- water was dripping excessively off the ceiling onto me. Wasn't impressed. Cleaning could be better. Checking behind the beds and night stands for dust and cleaning as you would your own home should be done at least monthly. Bed skirts were ripped. I have stayed in this hotel on several occasions and the last room I was given wasn't merely this distasteful. Not sure if the room itself was just ran down and not properly cared for or if all rooms are just being poorly cared for. If I ever do return, I will check the room I am assigned before pay. read more

I never write reviews this long but this time I had to do it. I know you usually breeze over this longer ones but trust me it's worth it. Everyone else that leaves review of this place were for weddings so they're all boozed and and well fed. Let me tell you about my experience. Checked in and the girl at the counter was very nice, but had to keep putting people on the the phone on hold because they seemed short staffed. Elevator was super sketchy, had to press the button several times hard to get it to work. Got to the room, very dated and when I checked the bed to make sure it looked clean, the sheets were dirty!!!!! The bed was made over dirty sheets! Seriously! I travel a lot and always check the room to make sure it's clean, and I've known people in the hotel industry so I've been told this happens at sketchy places. I went down to get new sheets or cancel the room and was waiting while the girl spoke to the manager on the phone. Meanwhile my wife stayed in the room with our bags assuming they'd send me up with new sheets. That's when the very nice girl at the counter tells me that the cleaning women are already upstairs "arguing" with my wife about the sheets. I was very upset by this, why didn't they speak to me? I'm at the counter making the complaint. Turns out the manager sent the house keeper girl up there to check the sheets and talk with my wife about it while I was down at the counter. This whole scenario was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I immediately went upstairs to find my distraught wife and baby in the room with 5, 5! "Housekeepers" changing the sheets, crowding my wife and baby and generally trying to intimidate her for saying the sheets were dirty. I grabbed all our stuff and my wife and I stormed out with the baby. After loading the car I waited for the manager while she glared at me and talked to the housekeepers and then proceeded to tell me I was wrong and that I was rude for suggesting this and I had an attitude. Talk about awful customer service. I straight up demanded a refund and when she gave me more attitude I told her I'd happily call my CC company and have them complete a charge-back and refund my money. That's when the "manager" got on the phone with her "supervisor" and was quick to change her tone. After just a minute on the phone with whom I assume was the real boss she apologized quickly and assured me my card would not be charged. Avoid this place. Rented double queen room for wife, Grandson and me. Room was clean and spacious. Rate was comparative to other hotels. Grandson loves the pool it was just right in temperature. Pool area was clean and well maintained. Continental breakfast was good ( although wish there were hard boiled eggs) but plenty to choose from. Female Staff was great she went and got my grandson chocolate mil with whipped cream he loved it. Only reason no 5 star this time Not the fault of the Inn but young girls preteen running up and down the halls and loud, off and on til 1:00 am. I've been staying at the hotel for awhile now and I love it. From the time I have walked in the doors until I leave I am treated like a member of the family. Travis, Shanse, and Destiny are great. When I have an issue they take care of it. Although I don't normally have an issue. And then there's the restaurant/bar, Nina is one of the best bartenders I know. She makes the best drinks and makes you feel at home. Jeremy is also one of the best bartenders/waiters, he sure does like to make you smile. Pat and Kim always say hi and smile. Best place in Owosso. Good location for walking to the park, bar, and liquor store. Clean atmosphere, decent rooms. My husband and I always stay here when visiting family in the area. There is a pool but no hot tub. There is also a conference center, and we have (more than once) been there when a big wedding was going on. We never had a noise problem in our room. The hotel bar/restaurant is ok. Lots of fried stuff, burgers, etc. I recommend walking one block to Jumbo's instead. read more

My son and I came to Owosso for the Polar Express train and stayed here at the Comstock. The hotel is in a perfect location. We were able to peruse the shops around the hotel in downtown Owosso. The train depot is just a few blocks away! It was great to just relax and when it was time to pick up the tickets, leave the car parked at the hotel and walk a few blocks to board the train. Love the town of Owosso and also surprised at how many things there are to do and see around the hotel. Here I thought the train was the only attraction. I was wrong. Plenty of things to experience. Great places to shop and eat. The Polar Express may be the main event but while waiting for your train, you can definately add other things to the itinerary! The staff was fabulous. Very nice and patient, what with all the parents and kids in town for the Polar Express, I must say- hats off to them! Tammy the woman who ran the continental breakfast was on top of her game. She was a busy elf during the Polar Express rush and did a fabulous job of keeping everything stocked. Very friendly too! Also kudos to the front desk staff, especially Travis! A fine young gentleman manning the front desk. I did have one slight snag with my room. The toilet did need a plunger, but that was quickly rectified. So thank you. Besides that the room was clean and warm. The hotel and staff were inviting and my son and I plan to be back every year for the Polar Express. When we come back, the Comstock Inn is where we will be staying! See you next December and save us a room! read more

We get our keys to our room directly above the party. Could hear every song bumping through our floor until well after 11pm. If you want to stay there for the same event, I suggest going down the road and staying at The Pines!! The new reservation manager is a jerk. He didn't want to honor our contracted room rates, he interrupted our meeting to say they are going to start charging for another night if those that weren't staying weren't check out by noon (and he came in after noon) and one of our members had an issue with him claiming there was a problem with their card and that he was going to cancel their reservation, but couldn't/wouldn't tell him what the issue or what card number it was. I have been staying at this hotel since it has opened, but will not be in the future. Reservations were made in August 2017, for September 2017, for 2 rooms- adjoining, for 2 nights, our group had 3 out of town visitors for a class reunion weekend. Upon check-in, there were no rooms, they were actually booked for 2018 under someone's wedding party. Getting the confirmation of reservation was difficult to get and in the process of that we did not notice the date of 2018. We admit, we did not notice the year, our fault. However, the treatment my friend received from the manger at check-in was beyond unprofessional, and acceptable. Finally after much back and forth we were put in a room with 1 king bed and 2 roll away beds. 1 bathroom. Only one room was available for the next night. Where were our other two people supposed to stay? It didn't matter, it wasn't his problem. Things have really changed with new owners and new manger now, the staff is still great. They were beyond mortified at how my friend was treated. In fact, it is our understanding that the treatment of the staff is very bad. I do believe this now after witnessing what we endured, I never write bad reviews, but this terrible customer service deserved reporting. We didn't stay the second night, we found a hotel with excellent customer service and rooms. And Comstock Inn just lost 4 loyal customers, extended family and friends included! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! I booked 3 nights through hotwire for this hotel for my husband while he was working in the area. The stay and the staff seemed good enough....that is until I checked my bank account. I was double charged for the room twice plus a random $15 charge. After several calls I received no call back from the manager. They said that the first $80.20 was refunded and that the other $50 and $30.20 which are pending at my bank and the $50 on my discover won't go through. The people who took the money in the first place gave me their word! Whatever that may be good for since the manager refused to even address the issue with me personally. There solution was that my husband could have 20% off if he stayed again. I had to cancel his card while he was out of town because of these fraudulent charges. They told me that it was my banks fault. So according to them they took our card number as a hold and my bank just decided to give them money that they didn't ask for. Very very dishonest and make no amends for there own mistakes. DO NOT trust these people with your credit card information!!! read more

I had made a reservation a year in advance for the first weekend in October, checking in on Saturday 10/7/2017 and checking out the next day. When I tried to check in between 5 and 6 pm on Saturday I was first told that their cancellation policy is to call 24 hours in advance to cancel (my confirmation letter states before 8 pm the day before). Since I was there I obviously didn't cancel. Then he told me that they had run the credit card and it was declined (which I would have been notified by my bank if that had happened, and I wasn't). He also said they called and left a message (when I got home there was a message left at 4:02 pm on Saturday). I told him there would have been no reason for the card to have been declined but he kept saying the same thing and that they had no rooms available. I'm sure they made room for the wedding guests rather than honoring my reservation and I wasn't the only one this happened to (and there were no vacancies anywhere within 10 miles of there). I checked later and the phone number they had on file for me was my cell phone. I also checked with my bank to confirm that there was no attempt made much less declined, they did see the charge from last year. read more
