Can Gràcia in Barcelona, Spain was honestly an amazing experience. If you're visiting Barcelona, I genuinely think this is one of those places you have to add to your list. The atmosphere, the quality, and the overall vibe felt special from start to finish. I did the 7-course tasting menu, and it was such a beautiful dining experience. Each course was served in a specific order and felt like part of a full culinary journey... thoughtful, creative, and clearly made with intention. The portions are small (as expected with a tasting menu), but it's designed to be enjoyed slowly, and the experience lasts a couple of hours. Every dish felt like it highlighted seasonal ingredients, chef creativity, and a cohesive theme. It wasn't just "good food," it was an experience... the kind where you're excited for every next plate. Con Gracia has something for everyone. If you are looking for a small restaurant with charm, you've found it. If you are looking for creative dishes to amuse the senses, you've found it. If you are looking for interaction (including children) with the owners, you've found it. If you are looking for a good value, you've DEFINITELY found it. While you can play it safe at Con Gracia by ordering off of the menu, what drew us to this restaurant is their surprise menu. We always prefer for the restaurant to pick our dishes once our allergies and preferences are known. There was not a dish that had a meh moment. Everything was extremely enjoyable. The biggest surprise was our palate cleanser before dessert. It is called the electric seed from Madagascar. I had never had anything quite like it. It literally whooshes over your mouth like a burst of energy and cleans your palate. Who knew a palate cleanser could be so much fun??!!! Also, for the opening dish, it was a combination of kimchi and octopus. It was a fantastic combination to invite your appetite for an enjoyable journey. I always love the play of sweet, savory, and spice. The beef dish was a le trompe-l'œil with the shape and color of a banana that tasted like garlic with a wonderful spicy sauce - quite the ménage à trois :- O (that's enough French in Barcelona) For the wine, for the price point, it is really well done with several great marriages between the food and the wine to ensure harmony. Service is attentive, engaging, and harmonious. In fact, I saw two tables with young children and the owners made a point of engaging with the children to ensure they had a good time as well. If you want to introduce your children to fine dining, this is an excellent place to do that. The price for two tasting menus, wine pairings, bottle of water and two intro glasses of cava was 241 Euros with another 25 added for the great service. This is an extreme bargain for the quality of the entire experience. This is a must return and seldomly I rate something five stars especially for a first time visit, but Con Gracia is must visit stop if you are serious about your food. read more

They even took the time to remember everyone's names in our large party. Every dish and every wine was explained. A lot of pride in their dishes. And carefully done and presented. Con Garcia located at a quiet neighborhood away from the tourist spots in Barcelona. I noticed it's a good mix of locals and tourists. There are 2 types of menu: the "Experience" menu and the Spring Menu. Only dishes from the Spring menu is listed in the menu, and the Experience Menu is a blind course -- you don't know what you will be getting. And even though the table next to you order the Experience Menu, it doesn't mean that both table gets the same thing. The key: tell them if you have any allergies, whether there's food you dislike, AND what you prefer. With the use of the freshest local ingredients, the chef presented a 5-course tasting menu, with measureable Asian influence: Japanese sichimi pepper, seaweed, Chinese Hoisin sauce... I was amazed by the presentation of the dessert: it's pretty and good! The "Cherry" desserts made my night complete! They offer an excellent wine pairing for an additional €30, and you wouldn't regret. The wines selected compliments with each dish very nicely. All are local wines, with grape varietals that are rarely available in the US. It's supposed to be half glass each, but the servers were very generous. Service was superb! The host and hostess knows their dishes and wine, and would answer all your questions. The host was my favorite: humorous personality, thorough knowledge on wines, attentive, and he was willing to help make things possible. This is a friendly, relaxed, and pleasant restaurant, so don't expect something extremely professional like those Michelin 3-stars (and they don't need that)! A truly delightful experience! My sisters and I went here for a special celebration, and the host and hostess took such good care of us! We do not eat pork so the entire menu was tailored to our dietary restrictions. All of the meals were refreshing, innovative, and, most importantly, delicious! The ambiance is cozy, warm, and welcoming with a high-end feel. Further, the host kept the restaurant open late for us as we exchanged gifts for our special celebration - such kind people work here. This cozy place was just perfect! Every dish did not disappoint our tastebuds nor eyes. The interaction with the staff was always delightful (especially guessing their special spice blend) and every wine perfectly complemented each dish. Because of the intimate setting--imagine a long rectangle space with 4-5 tables on each side--if there were obnoxious groups, my experience could've differed. For two Americans visiting Barcelona, Con Gràcia has been one of the main highlights of our trip! The restaurant is located on a side road that seemed pretty empty so it's easy to miss if you're not careful. Inside, the interior is small, about eight tables with a modern and cozy ambiance. We did the chef's tasting menu and were blown away by the experience. The dishes served were extremely varied from grass fed steak with a side of strawberry sauce to a rice dish that had a ricotta esque sauce that wasn't quite ricotta. Not all of the dishes were home runs but I appreciate the unconventionality of some of the dishes. Seemed like the chef in creating the menu, was happy to experiment with different pairings of food you might not expect to mix together. That said, a lot of the dishes were absolutely delicious, and in my opinion on par with some of the dishes I've had at Michelin starred restaurants. My favorite dish was the palette cleanser (the pre-dessert) which consisted of an electric flower, which resulted in mouth numbing/tingling effect when sucked on, and strawberry sorbet and chocolate cake. The juxtaposition of your mouth tingling followed by the coldness of the bite of sweets was sensational to say the least. Be prepared to come hungry as the tasting menu consisted of nine to ten dishes. We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the meal. One person in the party was gluten free, dairy free and couldn't eat red meat, and the restaurant readily modified the tasting menu for this person. Dinner was around two and a half hours for us so make sure to account for that if you want the full experience. read more

Looking for a traditional Catalan meal, at a large restaurant packed with locals? Are you a picky eater that wants to select or control every course you get? Con Gracia is not the place you're looking for, there are plenty of other options in Barcelona that will be able to deliver what you want. While they do offer local ingredients and wines for the pairing, the food tends to err on the side of international molecular rather than conventional Spanish. That being said, this intimate dining spot delivers a high level of sophistication, and some great flavor combinations for a very reasonable amount compared to similar style restaurants. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, as the location itself is quite cozy. There were actually only about two people working when we went, taking on the role of host, server, and pretty much everything but the chef. They managed to achieve a flawless precision as they weaved in and out of each table, explaining the courses and the wines, and switching between several languages seamlessly. When you arrive, you are taken to your table and offered a choice of their traditional menu or the surprise "experience" menu (both 65€) plus an optional wine pairing add on (30 € more). The surprise menu is filled with gaiety, although I have no idea of everything that we ate (they do tell you each course but my memory is not nearly good enough to recall). We started with a crinkled nori chip with some sauces artfully dotted across it perched atop smooth white stones, then progressed into quite a few other plates with an array of textures and colors. I remember loving one in particular that featured fresh tuna and edible dust, with some avocado creme. As for some of the other more memorable items (in a very vague overview as the specific slowly flit away from my recall) a bright green Cannelloni with chicken and other meats and sauces, a bowl that looked like a volcano filled with creamy risotto and topped with fresh fish, as well as a palate cleanser with strawberry and kiwi foams alongside a tiny spoon containing foreign berry that altered your palate. Quite fun! For dessert there was a silken chocolate mouse inside a porcelain cacao bowl, topped with edible silver pebbles, raspberry, and other garnishes paired with a Crème brûlée-esque 1927 Alvear Pedro Ximenez Dulce Viejo. Overall it was a terrific meal, with avant-garde dishes. While I wouldn't eschew the more orthodox Spanish menus when your time in Barcelona is limited, Con Gracia will absolutely offer a delightful experience. read more

Con Gracia for sure is one of the best restaurants I have been to in the last year. The place is pretty small, cute, and personal. The stuff is very kind and explains a lot about the dishes and their origin. The food itself is fantastic. We took a menu of seven courses and each of them was totally worthy. I want to especially point out the Iberian pork which was one of the best once I have ever tried and the melon ice cream that came with a little flower from Madagascar. The flower, which you were supposed to put for some seconds underneath your tongue, made your mouth feel very numb in the first moment but then let you taste the ice cream incredibly intense afterwards. The amount of food was very filling and it was even hard to finish the dessert. We took the selection of wine for every dish which was always very well selected and fitting the food. Three and a half stars. If you have been backpacking across Europe for months, eating nothing but granola bars and Egg McMuffins, this place will seem like foodie paradise. I had the "surprise" menu. The only real surprise was a chilled shot of soup made from the water inside of a tomato. Everything else was fairly standard. The first dish was the best... A shrimp paella plate. Beyond that, I had a tuna steak that was overcooked, a rice dish with a mushroom sauce that could have come from a box, a sour lemon sorbet, and a pretty basic flour less chocolate cake. When I heard "surprise menu", I guess I expected some really exotic concoctions. I also hoped that there would be some actual Catalan speaking Barcelona residents eating here. Nope, all Americans, Canadians and Brits. Easy to tell because the place is very small (room for about 20). The setting is intimate and the service is reasonably good. They also do a good job with the wine pairing. Of 5 wines, at least three were exceptional. For about 100 Euros per person with wine, Con Gracia is simply not all that surprising or valuable. read more

This place was very nice. It has 2 menus - traditional and surprise tasting menus. We opted for the surprise menu as many of the other patrons did as well. The food was amazing and the portions quite large for a tasting. For a little extra they pair the food with wine which really adds to the experience. The dining area only seats about 24. I guess they could fit 30, or so, if necessary. It was a nice size to get the right amount of attention from the staff. This was a good thing for someone whose Spanish is rusty and his Catalan non-existent. And then there was the food. I went for the Surprise Menu paired with the Surprise Wine Tasting, and I would recommend this course to everyone. What fun is a tasting menu when you know what's coming next? The server asks you for any food allergies, strong likes or dislikes, and soon a procession of dishes begin marching across your table. And the wine pairings were spot-on.
