Went with a group of 6 and will return for their Mexican breakfast specialties. Chilequilles were very tasty, the red sauce had a slight kick for flavor As was their special house coffee with cinnamon and sugar cane. There were some that got the regular french toast and they said it was ok. Service was attentive. Found this place on Yelp and glad we decided to give it a try! The ambiance was cute! The service was friendly and you could definitely tell it's a family owned small business which I love! And the food was genuinely good! My boyfriend loved it and he's a but difficult to impress! I had the cafe de olla which was great! Even on its own with no added milk and the chilaquiles were awesome! They weren't too spicy and the chips were definitely made in house which made them that much better! My only critique is that the carne on the chilaquiles was definitely way overcooked but other than that it was great! Oh and the portions were big too! Extremely poorly run. Half the tables were empty, but they still had 15 people standing waiting to be seated. In the 20 minutes we waited, only one table that was sitting received food from the kitchen, despite very easily seeing a full staff in the kitchen, and only one table was able to place an order, despite multiple tables looking around expectantly. They haven't seemed to figure out how to operate as a restaurant yet it seems. There was no manager and no host. Just a few ladies walking around the front staring at a handheld POS systems and not acknowledging customers. Terrible experience, food looked good, but fat chances getting it in anything less than 2-3 hours. Poor ambiance as well, sparse room with no background music playing made for a very awkward environment. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

However the couple that came in about 15 minutes after us were being served and we didn't get our food until about 15 minutes after them, annoying! Just as we were getting money for the coffee to walk out our food arrived. We ordered the Machaca Burrito with fresh fruit and chilaquiles. I came on a Sunday before attending the Rams game at SoFi, and while a bit lacking in some areas, the food and service made up for it. Walking inside, you can tell it's new. Hanging outside is a custom banner that reads "coming soon," which had us wondering whether or not it was in fact open. The LED signage inside was nice and hip, but I felt there was something else missing looking around the dining room, perhaps some cushioned booths for larger parties and smaller tables for parties of two. The lighting was quite nice, however. As for service, there definitely needs to be more personnel, as the woman there was hustling by herself between the kitchen and the dining room, making it hard for every guest to be greeted or attended to while seated. Despite there being a delay in the delivery of our food, the woman was very apologetic and communicated to us early and often regarding its status. But here's why I'd happily return: the food and its potential. We started with the café del la olla, which everyone loved so much we got another round at an additional cost. For food, our table mostly ordered chilaquiles and they were some of the best ones we've had. The chips were cooked perfectly, the sauce flavorful, topped with two over-easy eggs, and a side of black beans; the plate was the only thing that I spared. With a bit more time and help, this place is going to have people buzzing about the latest new brunch spot in Hawthorne. Good luck! read more

Visited the Hawthorne location a week after my disappointing visit to the Harbor City location. My wife ordered the green chillaquiles with scrambled eggs on top. I had the Huevos Norteños. My wife said that her chillaquiles were very tasty. My eggs were over medium and were cooked just right, the white was not runny or under cooked. The chorizo was excellent and the black beans were very, very good. They did not have the same taste as others that I've had in the past. I am not a big fan of black beans due to the taste but these I could eat all day. Service was good but the ambiance was very cold, the AC was blasting like gang busters and there were only a few patrons dinning. Next time I'll bring a winter jacket although it was hot outside. I highly recommend my dish, I didn't taste the chillaquiles but since my wife who is not a big fan of food said they were good, then they must have been outstanding. read more
