Kalaveras Marina del Rey continues to be one of my favorite Taco Tuesday spots. We've been here twice in the last couple of weeks, and every visit reminds me why it stays so busy. Taco Tuesday is always packed, but the staff does an impressive job keeping things moving. The process is simple--you get your ticket and the team serving the tacos does most of the heavy lifting. Even with the crowds, service has consistently been fast, efficient, and attentive. The food is very good, and the energy is always lively. My most recent visit was no different. Everything ran smoothly, the tacos were great, and our servers stayed on top of things throughout the meal. The only odd part of the evening happened as we were getting ready to leave. I stopped by the bar and asked the bartender for a cup of ice. He acknowledged me but never came back with it. While I was waiting, another guest next to me mentioned he was also having trouble getting service at the bar, while other customers appeared to be getting helped. I don't know the circumstances and don't want to make assumptions about why that happened, but it definitely felt strange. After waiting several minutes, I went back to my original server and she had the ice for me in about a minute, which reinforced my overall impression that the service team is generally very attentive. I don't like pretentious bartenders and I know their job is busy as heck. That again felt weird. Despite that one awkward interaction, the overall experience was excellent. Great tacos, a fun atmosphere, and a staff that usually does a fantastic job handling the Taco Tuesday rush. I'll definitely be back. read more

Super cute spot in Culver City! Bad Bunny playing, delicious tacos, and yummy margaritas... what more can you ask for? The space is large, vibrant, and totally Instagram-worthy, perfect for birthdays, group dinners, or even a company buyout. I stared at my.at the bar another person had to bring it to me. It doesn't take long to cook Mexican food, most of the food is cooked and prep'd ahead of time. My 2nd time visiting this location. The 1st time I brought my husband. You only get 1 time to make a first impression. . Add to add. I ordered a shrimp taco by itself, with a enchilada plate. She brought my taco only and my husband's food. I had to WAIT for my plate. It came by the time he was almost finished with HIS FOOD. Doubt if I will back to this location again. . Love the staff at this location I only wish they had more vegan options. But the atmosphere is fun, my husband's drink was tasty and strong, my wine was perfect and the chips, salsa and guac were fresh and delicious. Actually, our first basket of chips tasted a bit stale, which we mentioned to our server and she went back and got a fresh batch which were so light and crispy. The restaurant itself was beautiful, with an amazing atmosphere that made for a very enjoyable dining experience. The food was delicious, and the drinks were excellent. The quality of the menu and the ambiance are definitely worth recognizing. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the restaurant. Although the restaurant was not busy, the waitstaff seemed inattentive and came across with poor attitudes, which made us feel unwelcome rather than comfortable. What was especially disappointing was being questioned about the tip we left. Tips are meant to reflect the level of service received, and we felt the amount we left was appropriate based on our experience. I truly hope management addresses the customer service aspect because this restaurant has so much potential. Kalaveras is an awesome Hispanic food spot and we went to the one specifically in the marina. They played great music and has tons of seating and our waiter was awesome. We went on taco Tuesday because they have great deals on tacos. It's all you can eat and it's two dollars taco which is a great deal. The tacos are a great size and if you go during happy hour, you could even get discounted drinks. So I'll start with the standouts on food the Pollo taco and the El Pastore were the two standouts. The juice, the flavor, the tenderness the consistency of the pastor made it my favorite. It was so delicious and so fresh highly enjoyed highly recommend and the Pollo the chicken was nice juicy fresh And had great texture. Very enjoyable was surprised that I liked it more than the Carne Asada. The Carne Asada was good, but I'm a big ass guy so my expectations when it comes to are really high, but it was good juicy tender. It did feel like it was missing something I couldn't tell you what it was, but it definitely felt like it was missing a tad bit of something. The Carnitas was delicious. I enjoyed it a lot. This is always a safe choice to go with because it's very easy to do this and it was good consistent. Nice texture a good flavor. It just wasn't a stand out. I still recommend trying. Maybe you'll have a different opinion, but it was good. And the margarita was delicious as well. I got the mango and Chamoy margarita.Ask for a side of the liquid one not the powder it's homemade in house is what the waiter told me and it is delicious. It's addicting and you can eat a cup of it all by itself, no drink necessary. Overall, a great experience. Came here to celebrate a birthday for an early weekend dinner. Didn't know what to expect but left satisfied. Once you walk in you're greeted by a lovely flower ceiling and a flowed up wings panel that's fun to take pics in front of. We had reservations so we were seated right away in a preferred booth area where a pretty flowered wall invited us to stay awhile. Nice vibes overall inside. We shared the guac and aguachiles app with plenty o' chips. Nothing super special about the chips per se but the apps were delish. Drinks are so so all around. In general we all agreed that they were all short on the alcohol part. Everyone loved their entrees. Pics taken of the quesobirria tacos were served up with a tiny cup of the leftover delish braised beef sauce to pour into if ya needed more. Loved that option!! Would get this again!!Friend liked her carnitas and braised beef tacos that you can mix and match with other meats and have them with flour tortilla vs the corn. Friends who had the salmon, burrito and molcajate entrees said they would get it again, especially the molcajate dish that hit the right spot she said. Craving satisfied! Birthdays are cranked up a notch with the right amount of "flair"! Ice cream with strawberry sauce was yummmm. Overall will be back. Maybe the next time for brunch or happy hour!! There are TVs but not a place to come to catch a game probably. Great spaces to reserve for a little special party it looks like. There was an engagement or wedding party that wrapped up when we got there. Or, if you're wanting to just grab a casual bite, the big bar seems to have a lot of seating to grub at. Since it's in a shopping center, plenty of parking that's free. In LA, that's a must know. Wait staff and host were pretty nice overall and checked on us often enough. Eh , it's ok Overhyped, not authentic Mexican food, just a place to gather for drinks IMO. We came as a party of 10 on a Sunday afternoon and were seated right away but didn't get service for a while, The employee was dusting the ceiling lights while people were eating right under them which was really unusual and made for a dusty meal ( an observation, not under our table but on the other side of the restaurant) Service was slow, prices were high. If I had any disappointment with the food it would be the salsa & chips! I eat at a lot of Mexican spots and the chips had no real taste to them as some other spots but unlike some other spots; the salsa just didn't have any kick to it. I love my salsa hot! Maybe I can request that the next time. Let's talk about the ambiance because I was feeling the place until this party of women walked in with their dam pets! Ok; I would be cool with the smaller one but this big azz dog this one woman had sitting on the floor that I had to walk around to get to the restroom just didn't sit well with me. I didn't complain but I thought it was weird, that folks come out and bring these huge animals to eat because everyone isn't animal friendly because you can never underestimate them and to sit and eat in comfy; that kinda goes out the window especially when one gets to barking! I didn't like it. If they are allowing folks to come in with their pets; at least give them a section in the back or on a patio or somewhere not in the route of constant traffic especially if one has to use the restroom! I'm just making a suggestion. I won't make a big fuss about it because I probably would hardly go there anymore because of that but it is worth visiting again! I'm actually disturbed by how delicious the tacos Gobernador were! The crazy part is I removed the cheese and the chipotle sauce, yet they were immaculate...it's puzzling honestly. These weren't on the happy hour or taco Tuesday menu, but I will be back (despite it being twenty two dollars for three tacos...well worth it) I also ordered one salmon taco, which was okay. I was so happy with the shrimp tacos that I honestly didn't pay any attention to the salmon one, so it's probably not a fair assessment. The vibe inside feels very much like a Mexican arcade--lots of colors, lights and excitement. Lot's of neon, and bright decor surrounding the darkness of the space. We came in for the Taco Tuesday lunch. It's a great deal, and at this particular location, you tell the server that you want the Taco Tuesday deal, and they will give you 'coupons' that you take over to the taco bar. I came to eat with my family on June 30th and we did not have a good experience here. For starters, they said they only had 2 menus for 4 people which was fine but that's about the only thing we got that day. No one checked up on us or asked if we wanted to order and when we went to ask for someone 20 minutes later no one wanted to take accountability for our table. Employees were going back and forth trying to figure out our server, time went by and we just decided to leave. While we were sitting down other customers were getting seated with menus (which supposedly they didn't have more of) and plated with silverware which my family and I didn't get either. We would understand if it were packed and busy but there were a lot of empty tables at the time. CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE! i made a reservation for my nieces 25th birthday this passed sunday the 21st.. most of our group arrived on time (7:00 pm) we entered and waited about 5 min to be greeted (there was no host at front), we were then escorted to our table which had not yet been set up ... i then gave the man who sat us a birthday cake i bought for my niece and told him to bring it out when i asked for the bill... our server ADRIANA introduced her self and i ordered an appetizer, by this time it was 7:30 ish and the birthday girl was still not there , ADRIANA then stated last call for food was at 8:30 since they closed at 9:00pm . That made me feel rushed , my niece arrived shortly after and we all ordered our food before 8:00 pm . We all ordered soft drinks and had to wave our server ADRIANA down for refills and every time we waved her down she seemed bothered by it . I remember back in 2022/2023 the vibe was giving, the team was A1 back then but this recent visit made me think twice to go back to this location. Cut to me asking for the check around 8:30 and i see ADRIANA come out with a small cake (not the one i had given them) one of my guests had to go tell her that wasn't the cake i brought. Which completely ruined the surprise cake for my niece because she then noticed when they brought out the cake .. ADRIANA did not have that many tables to not make an effort to serve us right. This is a great place to go for happy hour. Eight dollar margaritas! Super amount of flavors and it's not blended! I had the guava and my friend had the pineapple. The guava came with a Chamoy rim and the pineapple with pineapple. we like them so much we had seconds. For snacks, the starting chips and salsa were delicious. Especially we like that the salsa was puréed but not too much, there were a lot of chunks, and it had just the right amount of not much heat. Then we had the queso fundido, which came with chorizo and mushrooms and was absolutely fantastic. We also shared the three taco plate with shredded beef and birria dipping sauce. The price was quite reasonable on these items, too. The Service was very helpful, warm and friendly, and the place looked absolutely beautiful. I've been to multiple Kalaveras locations and have always had great experiences. Yesterday, I had a bad experience. Me and my group decided to come here last minute as we were on the waitlist for another restaurant but ended up changing our minds. Once we got here, we were seated immediately and got chips right away. They did let us know last call was coming soon, I want to say they said 9:20pm but I wasn't sure. Anyway, we sat down and were pressured to order despite it still being around 8:40-9pm. Our server came by 3x within 7 minutes to ask if we were ready. Once we finally ordered, she didn't really come back. We got our food after a bit of a wait, which was fine. Once we got our food, our server checked in one us 1x. She never came back to inform us of last call or anything. Neither did anyone else. At one point, I started raising my hand and no one saw and if they saw, they ignored. After about 5 minutes, I put my hand down. I later raised it again, still no one. We gave up on trying to order again. It took forever for our server to come back too to check in or see if we needed the check or boxes. Of course once we told her we needed the check, she was fast. Overall, I won't come back to this location. Sure the food is good, but the service was terrible. Super inattentive. read more

These tiny tacos have a magnitude of flavor! Taco Tuesday is something to taco bout. $1.49 each. Best of all, they have so many absolutely delicious meats and salsas to share atop their delicate and scrumptious tortillas! I recommend their carnitas, lengua, and barbacoa. The asada left something to be desired. The habanero salsa is perfect if you have a spicy tongue, but they do offer others if you're not a fan (or would need a fan, because it is genuinely hot). A bit strange that the lighting is purple. It makes the food look unappealing, yet the dishes were very much a-peel-ing, like their fresh lemon slices. Overly sweetened flight of margaritas. Flavors were great though - guava, cucumber, hibiscus, etc. Just too sweet to drink, but on that note, the staff were just as sweet! I got the basics, asada, barbacoa, chicken, and carnitas. Awesome. They're small so you can try all of them there's eight flavors I think. Two vegan blech. But a nice way to celebrate by myself since I happened to have two huge interviews today. Chips and salsa were alright but those tacos. They fry the tortilla too. This place is both popular and authentic which is rare. Good service and prompt seating. Don't be intimidated by the wait time it's probably not that long. I've patronized several different Kalaveras. Five to be exact. I've only been to them for their taco Tuesday. The one in Rancho Cucamonga has the best layout and tastiest food. The presentation at this location looks nice, and they have a variety of salsas and toppings. I found the meats to be flavorless, and it would've been great if there was a little more seasoning. The asada had too much fat. My friend and I picked over it. I've seen other locations have cotija cheese, marinated cucumbers, and chicharron. The waitress was very nice and attentive. 3rd Star for the SERVICE- Here is my story. I've watched establishments come and go in the space now occupied by Kalaveras in the MdR. The space is large. The decor while "neon" bright in certain areas seem rather dim. But, there is light enough to see the menu and food. The menu is your "A" typical Mex-Tex list as with the mocktails and the cocktails. I ordered their lunch special which was some type of burrito which had french fries wrapped in it with the carne asada. Well, the carne asada tasted good but I should have studied the menu more carefully as I could have done without the fries. Oh well... Live, eat and learn! We ordered the guacamole and chips and YUP. I LOVED the guacamole which by the way is made FRESH on order. They have weekend brunch. They have Taco Tuesday, They have Thirsty Thursday so if you're going to stop in, check their website for anything they may have going.
