The wonderful smells that surround you as you walk in the door are worth the trip alone! The doughnuts were delicious. There is no price per dozen as I'm used to. Instead, they are individually priced but there were no prices displayed on the trays. And labels for the type of doughnuts would have been helpful for newbies like me. The clerk patiently answered my questions, but was distracted and several chosen doughnuts were missing when I got home. I had a 1/2 Cobb salad in the cafe. It was a very generous size and also came with roll, butter, and snicker doodle cookie on a cute little tray. Next time, I would order the dressing on the side because it was applied heavily. The service in the cafe was excellent. There were loads of beautifully decorated cakes and a case of chocolate candies. The seating area was very pleasant. People drive from Indianapolis to have donuts here. I can't say that I blame them. Colcannon's is a Muncie classic. I was very glad when they built this second store. They have wonderful sandwiches and ice cream and coffee. I haven't tried their candy, but I intend to in the near future. The popcorn is pretty good. The big question is, what about the baked goods? Well, Concannon's has never had the greatest bread or pies (too sweet, crust not flaky). But their donuts used to be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. They were crispy and the icing was rich by not cloyingly sweet. I think they used to use lard to fry them up--but I don't think they do anymore. The icing seems sweeter than before, too. The same goes for the cakes, which used to be A-M-A-Z-I-N-G x2!!!! Concannon's has been a part of my weekend ritual for many years. Visited today to find almost half of the patrons in line not wearing masks. When I asked my sales clerk why the staff was not asking the customers to put on masks she replied " we are not required to". We ordered a birthday cake which was picked up 7/11. This cake was very stale. The icing left such a horrible after taste. None of our guests are more than two bites. I called this morning and spoke with a manager, Sharon. She said they only bake cakes 1 or 2 times a week. Well, there you go. That explains why the cake tasted stale. I image the icing was very old as well. Perhaps even spoiled, causing such a horrible taste. Never got an apology or any kind of offer to make it "right". What a gigantic waste of $30 for a small cake. Just remember next time you need a cake, don't call them. read more

There really isn't any competition in east central Indiana for baked goods. Their frosting could be listed as a stand alone food category. It strikes the perfect balance between thick creamy spoonfuls and a light texture. If they sold their cake frosting in a jar I would brave the world of diabetes to scarf it down with a spoon. When you walk into the bakery you can be confident in knowing that all that is laid out before you is delicious. My children live in other states, so I try to get Concannons cakes to them, driving. There is no substitute, something in their frosting that permeates every baked good. Concannons is only In Muncie, and the taste is unique and unforgettable. I wish I could somehow mail their cakes. Their red velvet cake used to be my all-time favorite, but the last couple of years the quality has gone done. They never taste fresh, even when I order ahead. Today I tried a slice of chocolate cake in the cafe. It had obviously been frozen. In fact, it was still frozen in the middle. The cake was dry, not fresh and moist. I was disappointed. Oh this used to be the place. They had this butter cream frosting that was out-of-this world good. It just isn't the same. The girls working here are always rude but we don't even care because the donuts are so good. In my experience, the staff behind the counter rushes you and never smiles or says thank you. Wow! Wish we lived closer to this great bakery/cafe. I ordered the daily special: grilled cheese and tomato bisque. The bread was thick sliced, fresh and clearly made on site. The bisque was amazing: not sure what was in it, but if I could have, I'd have bought a quart to bring home. And it was only $5.69! We also bought a few treats from their candy counter, and would have gotten a pie, but knew we would not be near refrigeration for the rest of the day. Staff was friendly, too. read more

Staying at a hotel near this place. After a day of stress and travel, cheesecake sounds like an excellent dinner. I bought two slices. Each slice is nearly the size of a human head. Two giant double layer cake slices came to $8.19.... a huge bargain! The chocolate cheesecake is amazing. Thank god I bought two because the white cake with Oreos is inedible. The cake layer is hard and crunchy, and the cheesecake layer has a thick skin on it. If I lived near here or ever planned to return to Muncie I would make this a must stop. I had a horrible experience with Concannon's. I ordered a birthday cake for my 6 year olds' birthday. I called 3 days ahead of time to confirm. I was told everything would be ready. And, of course, the day of the party comes, we go to pick up the cake, and there's NO CAKE! My 6 year old starts to cry. We have a party in 2 hours, still have to decorate, and have ZERO cake. Talk to the GM. Her name is Sharon, and she has the audacity to tell me it's a holiday weekend, so they are busy. I almost lost it. It's Valentine's Day. I ordered the cake 2 weeks ago and verified 3 days prior. Valentine's Day? They honestly did not care. They just blamed Cupid. You've got to be kidding me. Wow. We ordered sandwiches and chilli. The chilli was cold. I had to take it back up to the counter to have it warmed up. Everything was brought out to us in styrofoam containers. Thanks to work, I ended up living about a mile from Concannon's (the north location) for about a month. It is a little difficult to see any signage if you're approaching from Bethel. My first impression of Concannon's was that it had a homey, mom and pop feel (some of the homemade items, the friendly employees, etc.), but it looks like they're skirting the edge of corporate bakeries (the electronic signs, perhaps a few too many offerings in an effort to cater to the masses, etc.). I tried a few different donuts on a few occasions, and they were all alright. The cinnamon twist was probably my favorite. I found any of the glazed yeast varieties to be too sweet, and the cake donut I tried was way too dense. I also bought some of their everything bagels which were surprisingly good. They didn't go bad instantly (so probably not super authentic bagels), but I was happy to have time to eat them all, and the "everything" blend was tasty. I bought a cherry pie (prices range $5-7), and it was absolutely delicious--almost enough to make me raise this review to a 4. An employee told me that they buy the filling (hmm?) but make the lattice crust. I also tried a few of their chocolates, which were good, though my husband articulately said that they tasted like "small bakery" (not good or bad, just an apt description). When I bought those chocolates, I was trying to decide if a sugar-free version would taste OK, and the employee just gave me one to try for free! I had similarly delightful customer service on each visit. This rating is ultimately a 3.5+, but I can't quite go to 4. I mostly liked everything I tried, and I would return if I were in the area and needed some baked goods. I suspect that their staples (donuts, bagels, pies, etc.) are the real winners. They also have the chocolates, hard scoop ice cream, a sandwich area, a coffee bar...it was almost a little too much for me, especially if you're presenting yourself as the local homegrown bakery. I thought the prices were perfectly reasonable. The bakery itself is comfortable and was a good location for me to study a few times. Thanks for the hospitality, Concannon's. read more

This place is perfect. Incredible selection of donuts, pastries, cakes, and cookies. They serve quality food as well. Concannon's is an excellent place to purchase gifts. They have two locations and are clean, professional, and courteous. If you ask people who have left Muncie what are the two things they miss most it's usually Pizza King and Concannon's. read more

The BEST bakery in the world! EVERY visit to Muncie and Ball State REQUIRES a visit (actually multiple visits!) to Concannons. Always leave Muncie with tupperware full of baked goods, including 12 Long Johns - French butter cream filled!! They freeze well. The menu items in the cafe are delicious as well. ENJOY!! read more

I would not recommend sandwiches and carry out food. They got my food order wrong twice and it was completely the wrong order both times.
