The food was amazing here! I was expecting it to not be so great because of the reviews but my expectations were definitely exceeded. Now, the food wasn't all that special but it definitely wasn't as mediocre as the reviews described it to be. And sitting outside overlooking the beach made the experience even better. If you want to have a nice dinner with good service while overlooking the beach, this is a very nice place to go to. read more

Their food has improved greatly since last time I was there. Love coming here to sit outside and have a beautiful view of the beach. The downfall of coming here is there aren't really any vegetarian options offered here. Came here with a bunch of people who do eat meat, so I just ordered the vegetable of the day which was broccoli and then the mashed potatoes (both listed under sides). They were good but would have loved more options. Crab Cakes got a high rating from the people I were dining with same as the Flounder Sandwich. read more

Heard so many good things about this place. Went twice in the past month and really, the only good thing about it is the service. Today the she crab soup was so watered down and the "special recipe" conch fritters didn't appear to have any conch. Those two items along with my cup of coffee was $24.....for lunch! And it was just a cup of soup, not a bowl. There are too many good restaurants out there to have to put up with this. read more

The wait took forever. I got the fish tacos. They looked amazing but the tase was very disappointed it was very bland and deathly need of salt. Took 22 minutes to get a side of ranch. Overall I was very disappointed. They also closed the kitchen 30 minutes till posted close time. read more

This is one place we look forward to eating at every year on vacation. If it is your first time going you'll want to get a table outside so you can enjoy the ocean view. The crab cakes and grilled shrimp are always perfect, however, as some other reviews have pointed out, their vegetables always fail to impress. While they are always fresh, there's very little effort put into them. Outside of that though this is a great dining experience that I would definitely recommend trying! read more

What use to be a five star review now a two. Over the past 6 months our experience with the conch has become more and more disappointing. It appears the new ownership took a great thing and made it average at best. I've been enjoying the lava flows for years and after trying the new recipe I just couldn't with the new chunky strawberry "lava". Decided to switch to a pina colada and that was like an ice and rum drink-- no creamy flavor at all. My guess is that drink was designed to make the new lava flow taste amazing. The food is hit and miss at best and the daily soup offering has disappeared. On my last trip I had to send my steak back for being well done instead of medium and the next came back medium well if I'm being generous. At that point after waiting I had to eat what was delivered but management did nothing to comp the annoyance of everyone finishing their meal before mine even arrived. Our family members fish was also cooked to the point of dry. I don't enjoy leaving a bad review for what use to be a daily visit restaurant for us. I'm hoping the owners will notice a trend in the most recent reviews and take this back to the way it was. Less focus on selling merchandise, more focus in delivering decent food and beverages. read more

Dropped in for refreshments. Even though there was a wait, we were immediately seated on the patio with front row view. And what a view! Ordered a pitcher of Blue Moon, an orange and a seafood combo appetizer. Shrimp were huge and tasty. Seafood pasta salad had large pieces of shrimp. Fish strips were tasty, almost like catfish. The atmosphere was good, even during a couple days of rain. The Reuben sandwich was good, the shrimp cocktail was great.

The Conch Cafe has been a vacation tradition for years in our family. It is always the first place we go when we get to Surfside Beach and we usually go 2 or 3 more times. You cant beat the view of the ocean, the staff is friendly and the drinks are cold which is needed after you get off of the beach. I highly recommend the she crab soup, and the wings are always tasty...they are hot but not too hot. read more

When we got there it was packed but got a table with a full ocean view within 5 minutes. I had the Rueben sandwich which was large, a bit dry but still full of flavor. The kids had a hot dog with fries and grilled cheese with fries, as well as chicken tenders and fries. My wife had the fish tacos, which were excellent. Lori was our server on the patio outside and did a great job keeping pace with us and her other tables. We'll be back. read more

Came here last week for appetizers and drinks with the family. We had reservations and had to wait a little bit once we got there but it was definitely worth if the amazing table we got outside. I've been coming here for years, like over 25. I have never had a bad meal. Stated coming here when I was single, then with my wife now we come with our daughter. The Conche is a great sit down style restaurant that has nice dinner offerings from standard seafood platters to burgers/sandwiches to items like the Steak Oceanside that I had. The Steak Oceanside is a beef tenderloin that is super tender. It melted in my mouth. Nice cut of meat. To make it even better the conche tops it with shrimp, scallops, asparagus and a hollandaise sauce. My table got 2 of those and a grilled salmon plate that was great also. As if the food wasn't good enough the view over the beach in Garden City Beach, SC makes it all the more worth going. read more

Poor service, poor hostess, spoke to people leaving who had a bad experience, the hostess didn't even know what time they closed and was sending people away telling them they had 30 minute wait but were closing in 20 minutes. Two people left after waiting 1.5 hours b/c the only thing they got was a drink order and no food order by the wait staff. Would avoid and go somewhere else.... read more

What really stinks about this place is that it's a perfect location. The place was barely able to see through the windows because they were so dirty. The waitress we had was a total bitch to to be blunt. It was crowded and noisy. I the food was overcooked and lacked flavor and it took forever. The one redeeming quality about the place is the gentleman in the parking lot that was helping people find spots to park was generally a nice guy. read more

Have been visiting the Conch Cafe for the past 35 years. It has always been a wonderful experience and the food and drinks were awesome. Over the past two weeks we visited several times. The restaurant is now under new ownership and it was very evident that the quality of the menu items has decreased significantly. We were hoping that the first one or two times we dined there that it was just an off day. Not the case at all. The poor quality of the items we ordered, and that was just about everything on the menu, was overcooked, undercooked or just lacked a good taste each visit. This is really sad because the location is great and the staff is very friendly. Hopefully they will listen to the reviews and great back on track. Will maybe try again in a few months to see if things improve. Unfortunately, I would not recommend them at this time. read more

Place isn't what it use to be. I understand it changed ownership. The new owners cleaned it up some. The dinning room is brighter and cleaner, the location is hard to beat with a large deck that overlooks the beach. That said, the portions have shrunk, the menu shrunk, and prices went up (this was before inflation kicked it). I thought the food was still good. Service was decent. We'll likely go back again after tourist season is over. read more

Dined inside because they could not accommodate our party of 6 adults, 2 children and a baby outside. 5 tables that came in after us all received their food first. When my son questioned the waiter, he got defensive. Didn't apologize or offer to do anything to help the situation (like bring the kid's some crackers). He just told us the food was up next. Two women sitting near us, offered to give the children their chicken fingers. Even they realized they had come in after us, their food came out first and that we had been waiting an exceptionally long time with young children. Having worked in restaurants myself, I went to talk to the manager. He responded the same way as the waiter. Did not apologize, rudely asked how I know other tables were served before us (we all witnessed it) and said, "I would have plated your food but you called me away from the kitchen." He also said I was yelling at him, which I definitely was not. Finally he asked what I wanted him to do. The food was now coming out but I told him I wanted to be compensated for all the trouble. They took the child's corn dog off the bill (5.99). Aside from the incredibly long wait, the overall service was just poor. Mixed in with the poor attitudes of the waiter and manager it made for a very unpleasant experience. We live nearby and have been coming to the restaurant since 1989. It used to be our favorite restaurant, but under the new ownership, the restaurant is just not the same. read more

Decided to stop in for quick lunch after reading the reviews on yelp. Staff was friendly but Unless you are interested in just the view you should move on. I had half tuna salad sandwich and salad. My husband originally ordered fish tacos. His was so bad he sent them back and ordered calamari which was just okay. The tuna salad was way over seasoned with celery that it ended up all you could taste. The salad was 99% iceberg lettuce with a couple of tomatoes thrown in. We shall not return. read more

the waiting staff is awesome and does an amazing job! the owners however treat them and their customers like their subpar. It was EXTREMELY hot throughout the entire meal due to the owner wanting prettier lights over fans (which would allow for the wait staff to not be so overheated and the customers). if the owners cared for their wait staff, cooks, and customers the experience would've been amazing. the absolute worst treatment I've experienced at this beach. I would go back for the people who are waiting tables but demand for the owners to give them better treatment and the customers better treatment as well. no one wants to over heat while eating a hot meal. read more
