Went to lunch here and the food was pretty disappointing. The restaurant is a quaint buying slow right in the beach. There are views of the ocean out all the windows and a large porch got outside dining. The hostess and waitress were friendly. The waitress recommended the seafood salad and the combo seafood appetizer plate. We decided to try them both. The seafood salad was pretty gross. It was a huge portion of fake crab, shrimp and a few tiny scallops slathered in mayonnaise with little other seasoning. The menu did not mention FAKE crab. I think there were so many chemicals in it, I still have a headache. The seafood appetizer included conch fritters, shrimp wrapped in bacon and deep fried, grouper fingers and shrimp and pasta salad. The grouper fingers were very thin and I think they were tilapia. They were okay. The shrimp in the bacon was cooked perfectly and the best thing. The pasta salad my husband said tasted like styrofoam packing peanuts. And the conch fritters were bready with no conch flavor. If you are looking for a spot to have a beer or ice tea with a view this might be a good choice - just avoid the food. Unless you like fake crab then you will be thrilled . read more

I'd give this 5 stars for the location and the service, but my food was not great, so 3 stars. This place has a great outdoor dining area overlooking the beach. I got the rib eye, it was so bland, just a piece of meat on my plate, no seasoning, I could have done a better job at home. I ate at this place several times over a 2 week span, because it was within walking distance of our condo, and, well, I had a vacation love affair with bacardi. It certainly wasn't because the food was great. The first night we had dinner there and I had a salmon sandwich. Others had shrimp po'boys, fish tacos, and crabcake sandwiches. Everyone thought their food was pretty bland and tasteless, the service was slow, nobody brought bread, drink refills were difficult to get. Half our party declared not to return. Those of us who ventured back actually had a really good meal the next day- the same fish tacos were suddenly delicious, and I had a good chicken sandwich. Suddenly this was a place that served rolls! Must be related to who's running the kitchen. Another night, another bland crabcake sandwich and no rolls. A midday trip there in search of an irish carbomb (hey, it's a bar also) revealed that they don't have guiness (nor did the bartender even know what that was (?!?)). If you are staying right next door to this place and drink heavily, it might be worthwhile. Otherwise, skip it. The menu is terribly limited, everything is fried, and it's just not that good. read more

This is some of the worst seafood I've had in a while. I ordered the Grilled Mahi-mahi sandwich and shrimp cocktail and Chris ordered the Conche Seafood platter. My Mahi-Mahi was over cooked and VERY dry, the fries as my side and the shrimp were perfect, the cocktail sauce had way too much horseradish in it, making it inedible for me. His seafood platter was over cooked and over salted. The scallops were rubber-like, the deviled crab was practically burnt, and the oysters were sponges of grease. And the food was cold by the time he got back to where we were staying, and we are a singular mile from it. I will never put another cent into this restaurant. I work in a restaurant and even when we are busy we would never ever serve food like this. The kitchen must not care about their service. Also, when he went to pick the food up, one of the servers blatantly ignored Chris and walked away. I spent $60 on food that I can make better myself. read more

Visited the Conch Cafe this afternoon. It was a late lunch, early dinner. There were actually 3 tables of brave souls sitting outside on the porch along the beach. We opted to sit inside. There were only 3 occupied tables in the dining room. We were seated away from the windows overlooking the ocean. We asked the waitress f we could be re-seated. She agreed although clearly not happy about it. From that point on, she was all business. One friend had the she-crab soup which she raved about. The table shared the shrimp/bacon appetizer. All gave it a fair rating. I had the burger which was okay even thought the state of SC will not allow me to have it cooked to my preference. There was no lingering as the waitress cleared plates as soon as diner's were done regardless if others were still eating. She presented the check which was paid by credit card and picked it up before we'd even gotten ready to depart. Maybe this place is more fun when there are more people in the place. This is a very average beach front dining experience. We chose this place to try something new and we were a little disappointed. The menu is very basic and after sizing things up, I decided to go with a burger, as did my husband. The fries were great. I very much enjoyed them. They had a crunchy coating that was quite flavorful. The burger however had some kind of odd peppery flavor and it was dry. It was something like an amateur backyard griller might offer up in the process of learning to make a good burger. They did have a nice selection of frozen drinks from the bar. The kids menu had the basics, but some of the prices were a bit high. My kids ordered a grilled cheese and a shrimp meal. The shrimp were not popcorn style, which almost caused a meltdown, but it ended okay. Overall, I would say this place is a missed opportunity. It should be a great local dive, but it is really just a facade for a very average and not terribly tasty dining experience. read more

For 10 years this has been one of my favorite places to go... sadly, it is not any more. One of the best appetizers, bacon wrapped shrimp, is obviously no longer done by hand inhouse... frozen, and just very "breading" tasting... My sister-in-law had the dinner with crab cake and shrimp; she sent it back, the crab cake has a bad taste to it... my flounder was eadible, nothing more. I am sure the economy dictates changes in quality, but they would do better taking some things off the menu and keeping quality in those they service.... So sad, but I can no longer recommend for anything other than a drink and the view read more

Today was my first time eating at the Conch Cafe. Great view since it's right on the beach. Food is ok. However, it is the first time I have EVER had a waiter say no when asked to take a picture!!! Maybe he was busy, but he works in a vacation destination and it takes less than a minute to take a picture for someone. It was a special event since my husband and I were getting together with family we hadn't seen in years. Very disappointed with the service there. read more

I ordered the seafood salad with balsamic vinaigrette. When the dish arrived it was mostly imitation crab meat in a thick mayo-based cream with small chunks of rubbery shrimp and scallops. I tried to eat it but the mayo completely over powered all other flavors. As a waiter at a seafood restaurant I usually never send something back unless I'm afraid I might get sick or its prepared in an unsafe manner this dish was both. They brought out a oyster po-boy. Which is a simple enough dish. The fries were dark brown and tasted burnt. The po-boy had 4-6 very small crunchy oysters with absolutely no juices left. Usually a nice lemon tarragon or remolaude sauce is lightly drizzled on the sandwich to give extra flavor and color. There was nothing but two think slices of tomato and dry iceberg lettuce. I ate a few bites then took the rest to-go. The server seemed very apologetic about the quality of food but unsurprised at the same time. Apparently a lot of food is sent back. It's a shame that they believe the fact that they are on the water gives them an excuse to lower the quality of the food especially for the very very high prices. Will never go back except for a few drinks at the bar. Stay away! read more

This was the third visit for us over the past five years while on vacation. We had a good experience two years ago. Upon entering, the hostess was very kind and even complimentary. We were seated almost immediately outside. Our experience began to dwindle here. The pace was beginning to pick up for the restaurant and the person who seemed to be the manager was speaking to the hostess TERRIBLY. He was so loud that we heard him criticize her seating choices several times. One party was even asked to move after they had already been seated. The food was mediocre, not bad, not great. My kids were looking forward to some hush puppies but they don't serve these. Even though this isn't necessarily the establishment's fault, there were houseflies overtaking our food (maybe 50?). The view is indeed gorgeous, so it might be worth your visit for that alone. Overall, we are sad to say we won't be back. read more

Our experience at Conch Cafe was just okay. We were told it would be 30-45 minutes for a table for a group of 8. It ended up taking about an hour, which was fine considering it began to storm and seating became limited outside. Once we were seated it was several minutes before our waitress, Clare, came to our table. Clare was fine but not very friendly. Our food was just average. I had the salmon sandwich and there was no flavor. The best part of our dining experience here was the rainbow over the ocean once the storm passed. read more

Decided to give it a try the other night. The location is great, right on the beach The parking lot is small, almost full when we ate there and the restaurant wasn't even close to full. Had a nice waitress, noticed they are all young, think 20 max. The food was ok, nothing to complain about, nothing to rave about. Small menu I thought. I think lunch would be a better idea than dinner. Wont hurry back but nothing I can really complain about, everything was ok. read more

The worst experience so far at Myrtle Beach. Took 1 1/2 to be seating when told 40 minutes, I get that. But when food came 1 20 min. Later it was all burned. Couldn't eat it. Server very nice. read more

I have had lunch and dinner at this restaurant the past two years. I found the service and food very good. Sometimes gets very crowded and it does take a few minutes for your server to get to you. Great view of the beach. If you want AC, you can eat indoors where it is cool. read more

Very good scenery. The food is great. Drinks are great too. What I liked about it is, it's not crowded with a line to just to get in.

The location makes this spot. You can sit on the porch looking right over the beach and water. There aren't many options like that nearby. I liked the food -- got the seafood platter -- but I sampled some other dishes and found them all adequate. We had a large party of people and our server was on the ball. In short, I wouldn't drive out of my way to come here -- there are better options. But if you're in the neighborhood or out on the beach -- it's a great spot to hit. read more

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat in my board shorts and was not disappointed. Great location next to the beach and awesome service. The breaded scallops were my favorite but everything was good. The atmosphere was very easy going and the patrons were a mature crowd. Prices were reasonable for a beach front restaurant. Grouper was the special so my husband asked if he could get a grouper sandwich. Served on a hamburger bun with lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce and a few fries. Since it wasn't on the menu, we didn't know the price--but it was "the special". When the bill came, it was $30 for a grouper sandwich with fries! Been here several times. Always very good. We like to wait, and there is usually a wait for a table out side with a fantastic view. Kind of a limited menu but every thing has always been very good from the full bar, to the appetizer's to the specials love to visit during the day and get some frozen daiquiri's to take on the beach. read more

One of our favorite places for lunch when we are here. Nice atmosphere, great view especially if you opt for outside seating and friendly service. Today I had the buffalo shrimp which were quite tasty. My husband had the conch sea sampler (grouper fingers, conch fritters, shrimp wrapped with bacon and a shrimp pasta salad) with a very good cocktail sauce made in house according to the waitress. We like ours with a little bite to it as too often it's mostly just ketchup with not much horseradish at many places. read more

What a disappointment. I've vacationed at Surfside Beach for over 30 years. The conch has been a place we go to every year especially on the day we check in. As our family as grown up it is getting more difficult to come. This year I arrived by myself with the rest of the family arriving later. I went for lunch by myself at the Conch. The young hostesses were NOT friendly. Especially the one in the white fringed cropped pants. I requested a table outside and was fine with a wait. A few groups were seated ahead of me and then a table was cleared and sat there empty. I knew it wasn't for me yet but the hostesses weren't doing anything and the guy who cleared the table came in and was watching TV. I pointed out nicely that the table had been cleared. The young lady with the fringed pants gave me the rudest stare and said she wouldn't know if it had been cleared. After another 15 minutes they offered me a table in the corner and suggested I probably wouldn't want it. I told them I was leaving. A tradition has ended. We won't ever return to the conch! read more

Wanted to eat at a nice oceanfront resort, so decided to try Conch Cafe. Loved the view from the open air deck...until it got a bit chilly and had to go inside. Food was ok, nothing spectacular...thought it was overpriced for drinks and dinner (seafood platter for $24....8oz steak, shrimp, scallops and asparagus for $26). Just can get good food elsewhere for less money. Tried it, that's it! read more

Very good food! Was crowded and they got 15 of us into eat immediately. Specialty drinks are delicious!

Our favorite beachfront spot for bacon wrapped shrimp and fried flounder sandwiches!!!! Have been going to the Conch for years. Love it!!! Went recently and were disappointed in the margaritas (usually awesome) which are a great accompaniment to the above. Had a powdered too sweet taste. Will taste the mix on our next visit before we order. It may have just been an off day for the bartender. read more
