I have to preface this by saying I've never actually stayed overnight here. However, as chairperson of my company's holiday party committee, I can tell you that we visited several function halls in the area and we were completely bowled over by the Colonial Inn. My first impression was a good one, with fresh flowers filling up the lobby. The rooms in the older section of the Inn are cute and quaint with a historical feel. The rooms in the newer section (built in the 70s, I believe) are not as fancy but still clean and comfortable. You have to remember this place is an "Inn," not a hotel per se. Their functions coordinator is a lovely lady who would do anything to make sure the party goes right. When we toured the room she originally had in mind for us (down in the basement, under the tavern), we found it to be too small and dark for our tastes, so she ended up pulling a couple of strings and getting us the main dining room on the first floor! We had lunch there that day and the food was very good, certainly better than the other places that we visited - and they even gave us little cornbreads to take home. One of my colleagues was so impressed during the tour that she decided to hold her wedding and reception there this fall! I am looking forward to the holiday party, and know my coworkers will really enjoy having the party at such a classy place. read more

If I could give a more negative number of stars, I would. I was hoping for a lovely experience of Afternoon Tea with my family. We had reservations for the 3 o'clock Saturday Tea. We arrived early and was told it would be about 10 minutes, putting us past our reservation. At 3:20, we were seated. There was one other party there for tea. Why the wait? The waitress sat us down. 10 minutes later, she appeared with the tea selection menu. We ordered our teas. Nowhere on the table was there a menu for that day's food selection. She brings our tea in pots and outs them on the table. We pour ourselves our tea in these porcelain pots that leaked onto the tablecloth. Some of the spouts were chipped. One pot was a Christmas theme. Food arrives in 3 tier tea service. She places them on the floor while making room on the table. Who does that? The baked goods were dry. The lemon curd delicious and compensated for the dry food. One of our party asked for non dairy creamer and was told that there wasn't any. Hard to believe. Overall, the company was excellent and the tea an experience that bonds us as a shared horrible event. The next time we want an afternoon tea, we'll do it ourselves. The more expensive antique rooms aren't so nice. You hear everything in the lobby and neighbor rooms. Bathtubs are missing drain plugs. Furnishings not so nice. Restaurant mediocre. My experience. Call multiple times. No answer. Call. Finally reach a person who promptly puts me on hold. Finally comes back asking in uninterested way "How may i help you?" In the middle of a question less than thirty seconds into my call, "I'm so sorry, i have another call, may i put you on hold again?" Hmmm. Why would i want to give my money to someone who doesn't seem to understand they are in the hospitality business? Perhaps doesn't know the definition of the word? If you can't be prompt, courteous, patient and attentive over the phone, i doubt the stay will make up for it. Looking elsewhere. Review stands. read more

If the inn was not historical, there would be no reason to visit. The food is very much an after thought! From the front desk to the dinning room staff was way to comfortable having personal conversations with in earshot. not professinal. The staff knew little about the menu, and seemed bothered whan i inquired about some particulars. The food came out luke warm, and very bland. The pot pie tasted like raw flour, with dry chicken. the chowder was scorched and dark...probably sitting in the steam well all day.?! Over the years i have hoped the inn would pull it together, I want to like it, but it never fails at how little they seem to care about the guests. Save your time and money and eat anywhere else. Although a quick wander through the inn is nice, just dont plan on eating. read more

Very nice atmosphere for New England cuisine. I had the salmon and it was done perfectly. The dessert was really good with Indian pudding which was delightful. Reservations are recommended especially on Fridays and weekends. I went to meet a friend and the waiter was very patient with my late friend. While there wasn't much hot water in the shower the room was still very nice and much to our liking, as fans of little women it was cute seeing they had a dining room named after the author. The dining experience was just out of this world, everyone in the whole building was just so accommodating and kind. Best waiter I've had in a long long time, super attentive yet casual and not over bearing. I have not stayed at the hotel, so this review is only about the restaurant. I gave it five stars because it really exceeded my expectations. I know we have all eaten at these types of places that seem so quaint or have something very unique about them, but then they fall short in that the food just isn't all that good or there is some other detail they have overlooked (good service, etc.), and the trip ends up being a disappointment. Having had just those types of experiences myself are why I didn't expect a lot from the food here. But since I never took the opportunity to try the place when I lived in Boston years ago, I did want to give it a try during my last trip there. My daughter and I came here on day two of our vacation to Boston in the summer of 2009. My daughter wasn't that excited about going there, but she agreed to give it a try. We were both very pleasantly surprised. She had the fish and chips and said it was probably the best she had ever had. I had a Caesar salad. It was absolutely delicious. I also had an Arnold Palmer (iced tea and lemonade). Definitely the best one I've ever had anywhere and somehow that really put the place over the top for me. We had no complaints whatsoever about the service - our waiter did an excellent job. I don't remember what we paid for our lunch, but the prices felt reasonable. The decor was as wonderful inside as outside and I am so glad we went. I was recently in Massachusetts for a 3 week work trip and my coworkers and I decided to soak in as much history as possible. We hit up Walden Pond, North Bridge, Minute Man Historical Park, etc. and we stumbled upon Colonial Inn for dinner. Being from the Midwest, I find anything New England incredibly charming. Wood shake roofs, white siding, red doors, Volvos, etc. Concord's Colonial Inn fit right in to my New England fantasy. The slightly slanted but well-preserved dark wood floors, period style furniture, that awesome fireplace, the charming and patriotically bedecked porch with lights in the trees... A Cape Cod romantic comedy is meant to have a date scene here. Our server, Deirdre, was wicked pissah/seriously awesome. She had no problem separating our large group's checks individually and she was friendly and familiar and got along with our group right off the bay. We felt like we knew her as soon as she introduced herself. Her recommendations were on point and her service was stellar. We all ordered our own dishes but sampled each other's. Stand outs included the fried pickles and the bacon-wrapped bacon. You can't go wrong with any seafood dishes on the menu either. Pricing was also very reasonable and not out of this world for all of the food and drinks we ordered. If I lived closer, I'd be here a few times a month and I'd always asked to be seated in Deidre's section. read more

We got caught in a bad snowstorm coming from Cambridge trying to get home to the Western part of MA. Realizing that it the roads were only getting more treacherous, we googled nearby hotels and the GPS sent us to the Concord Inn. What started out as a horrible day turned into a wonderful, magical overnight. The receptionist not only gave us a room, but she discounted our fee due to the weather. We were able to walk around the town in the snow and had a wonderful dinner in the tavern. The room was old but that was part of the charm. It faced Main Street so we were able to watch the snow fall over the green. It was a great evening and we were so thankful that they could accommodate us on a moment's notice! read more

This review is only for the afternoon tea. A few years ago I had my first tea experience here and it was so much fun. There rooms really do have a quaint, cute, colonial charm to them that fits the tea ambiance perfectly. They had a nice variety of tea and since i was with a number of ladies, I got to try all of them which were all hot and tasty. The scones were some of the softest I have ever eaten in my life and they melted in my mouth. I really enjoyed the tea sandwiches, especially the egg salad with bacon bits. All of the sweets were delicious, and I found the lemon squares to be particularly memorable. The fruit was fresh and chilled with a delightful cream. All in all, everything was perfect, and I love coming back here again and again. Don't be fooled though...come here hungry because you will be stuffed after sampling the whole menu! Just this past May I also had my bridal shower here for afternoon tea and it was a wonderful experience. The servers were so nice and attentive, the room was decorated beautifully, and the food, as always, was great. read more

I don't know what the hotel is like here, but the food here was fantastic and especially the Lobster Roll. My first ever Lobster Roll was the McDonald's McLobster Roll and I wasn't too impressed as a first impression. The Lobster Roll here however, blew me out of the water. It was everything combined that made the roll tastes so good. I'm not sure what kind of bread they used but it was crunchy and very tasty. The lobster itself was tasty as well. I was able to choose from Truffle Oil fries, regular fries or sweet potato fries. I got the sweet potato fries and I really enjoyed that was well. I wasn't too sure what truffle oil fries were, but a friend ordered that and it tasted awesome. I would get the truffle fries the next time I come here. read more

I was traveling with my teenage son and daughter, and we wanted a good, clean hotel not too far from downtown Boston, but far enough to ease the price a little. We could not have found a better spot! After spending the day at the Museum of Fine Arts, and then walking the Battle Road between Concord and Lexington, the Colonial inn was a welcome sight. In the summer the front porch is a restaurant, so when you walk up it was a little confusing to me because it seemed awkward to walk through a restaurant with your luggage, but that's what you do to get to the front desk. The back parking lot was full, so we had to park on the square which meant the front door. Check in was quick, and then through several twists and turns we ended up in our room. To be honest, I'm not sure I could have found my way back to the lobby, but our room was fairly near the rear exit which made things easier. We had a corner room that was partly below ground - the view out one set of windows was the sidewalk at eye level, and all you could see were feet going by! But we weren't there for the view, so that really didn't matter. The room was good sized, clean and had a nice TV - that's all we cared about. The bathroom was a little on the small side, but that night we really didn't notice much. The next morning was a different story though - the bathroom is very updated which we appreciated, but the shower was very small. I felt like I was in an episode of Tiny House Living, trying to wash my hair without banging my elbows into the wall. We all managed, and actually had a laugh about it, but I could see where it might be difficult for some. Our second day was spent on the Freedom Trail, which was an easy drive from Concord. When we got back, it was dinner time and we were exhausted and I just wanted to stay put. We stopped at the front porch and were immediately seated right at the front rail. It could not have been a more perfect evening - the temps in the mid 70's, no bugs, no sun right on you giving you sunburn, and an amazing meal. All our meals were excellent, but I have to give extra thumbs up to the macaroni and cheese that my daughter ordered. It came straight from the oven, was piping hot and the perfect combination of cheesy on the inside, and crusty on top. Wow! After dinner we took a stroll on the square to see the historic markers and could not have been more satisfied. I would go back in a heartbeat if we were in the area again! read more

This historic Inn still has its charm and ambiance. The rooms are simply appointed but generally comfortable. We had the upstairs of the cottage as we needed to accommodate several adults. They assured me 5 adults would be fine in there but it was a bit cozy in the 2nd bedroom (the sofa sleeper revealed a twin bed and the other 2 were full at best). The master bed's mattress was quite worn, causing us to think we might roll off the edges. There is no real sitting area in the room (except a kitchen table) in the cottage so we headed to a suite where another member of our party was staying. It had a couch, chairs and coffee table, so much more comfortable for chatting. Cocktails on the front porch was delightful, as was eating in the main dining area. The food was good and service was responsive. We were there for a memorial service. The banquet staff was top notch. They dealt with all our requests, both prior and during the event, with grace and ease. Everything went off without a hitch. Our thanks to the Inn for a wonderful weekend. read more

My first experience here has been with the restaurant, which I've gone to about five or six times. I've always loved it. The menu changes frequently but gives a taste of good, old fashioned, New England fare, often with a modern twist. It is a bit pricey, but worth it. I usually go at slightly off hours (i.e. not peak periods) so I've never had a bad experience with service. Love the food, love the atmosphere - try to get into one of the older rooms instead of those main couple rooms at the front, if you can. Recently, I also stayed in one of the rooms for the night. I was warned "there are a lot of stairs, but only this one takes you to the right room." We had a quiet wing to ourselves, a decent room, cute furniture - good experience. This was a really good hotel. I stayed here on a business trip and really enjoyed it. It's in the heart of downtown Concord and is within walking distance to all the cool stuff in the area. The hotel is old, unique and full of history. Plus is has a bar and two restaurants. The only con is that rooms do not come with a mini fridge. Talked to Rachel who was very helpful and accommodating. Very friendly, attentive and helpful staff. Were incredibly courteous and kind. The restaurant and tavern are five star, great daily menu and seasonal (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Chicken pot pies and hot toddy's were the best! It was a fun surprise to be booked in famous room #24...and my colleague in #27. Definitely recommend, and would return for a visit business or personal. Because of the ambiance, centralized location in Concord making walking everywhere easy, and the uniqueness of the building made the stay fun. The room was a bit small but spacious enough for one night stay. Bed was comfortable and not squeaky. The remodeling made for the nice bathroom. When in Concord it's hard not to get into the Colonial mood and the Colonial Inn is the perfect place to grab a meal. If it's pub fare you seek, yes you can step inside to the bar and dine in a rusticly authentic colonial inn complete with dark aged wood that shows it's age. The space is small, but the food is some of the best pub fare you'll come across. Burgers are juicy and cooked perfectly to order and as a Fry guy I'm happy to say their fries measure up to the toughest critics. For dinner the sky's the limit (and sometimes the price match, but usually are quite reasonable). The Colonial Inn has its own take on nearly everything. Even a basic chicken dinner is a taste filled experience once they run it through the kitchen. Make sure you choose at least one appetizer that piques your interest. The fall pumpkin offerings are prime choices and you may not look at squash the same way again after trying them. Prime rib is something I'm very picky about and the Colonial Inn does an acceptable, but not spectacular, job with this standard dish. I usually like a little more flavor and this feel short. While not bland like some of the chain steak houses you're not going to get a superior cut here. Still, you also won't pay famous steak house prices. Service can be hit or miss. Because it's in a prime tourist location and can quickly go from sleepy lunch service to half crazed early dinner service the servers and staff can sometimes get overwhelmed. I've waited as long as 20 minutes for service after being seated and another half hour for the food to come up. I've also had nearly instant service and seen the food arrive quickly. So it really boils down to what time of day and what time of year you happen to drop in. If you're there in the spring or fall and the weather is cool, you absolutely want to dine outside. Everyone should enjoy a lunch on a cool autumn day out on the Colonial Inn's porch at least once. It's worth it for the experience. read more

I have to say first that we checked in at 3 - 4 am. We were welcomed and directed to our rooms. And it was even explained that the Inn is haunted. WOW - not what you want to tell an exhausted flight crew.... We usually stay in hotels, but everything was booked and this was all our Dispatcher could get us into. I believe if your going to vacation and are expecting this sort of homey, historic B & B you will love it. I wont say I didn't enjoy my stay, but it was not what I was expecting. Came here for the fancy brunch with some friends, and really enjoyed the food and ambiance. It's just like going to grandma's house - the food is old school and so is the wallpaper, but sometimes you just need some of that old school charm. The brunch buffet was great - I think I ate my weight in smoked salmon/capers/onions, and then went back for a fresh omelet (if you want bacon or some other ingredient in your omelet that they don't have, just grab it from the buffet and hand it over tot hem), then went for broke at the dessert table. Oh god.. the desert table was insane! They had the best carrot cake ever, chocolate dipped strawberries, and about 10 other types of desserts in huge portions. I think the best plan of attack here is to grab one of the large buffet plates, get one of each, then split it with your table. The brunch buffet costs an arm and a leg.. and probably your first born as well, but I really enjoyed it, and would consider coming back for a special occasion. read more

While I came to the Colonial Inn as part of a vacation visiting the most haunted B&B's in the New England states (I stayed in the infamous room 24) and didn't experience anything I DID have an excellent stay!!!. Dined here around noon on a beautiful fall afternoon. Expected to wait (lots of cars, people etc) as we were party of 8 but were seated immediately in the old, old section of the tavern area. Sunday Breakfast (we did not stay at the Inn): Arriving at 8:15am we were the first seated outdoors, but then it filled steadily. There was a buffet, but no separate menu. The buffet was very good--variety of eggs, well-done meats, french toast and fruit salad. The one disappointment was the bread & pastry tray; items were similar to the free breakfast at a motel. I was here on a weekday, so it wasn't very busy at that time. Took about 10-12 minutes for our server just to bring coffee and water. Another 10 to take our order. Once the order was placed - another 20. Food was mediocre. Asked for the bill early (i.e. When the food arrived), and we were ignored. Waitress no place to be found. Asked the manager to get our bill, gave him a card for payment - watched him walk to the register and put our bill down- walked away. Finally got our bill after another 10 minutes. Concord's Colonial Inn is a must if you're visiting Concord. It's quaint and invokes the charm that is Concord. The food was delicious. We were there for breakfast... I ordered the poached eggs, potatoes, bacon and rye bread. The warm rye bread was perfectly buttered and tasted delicious! The bacon was crispy and the potatoes tasty and expertly cooked. The only reason I didn't give this restaurant 5 stars instead of 4 was because my eggs were overly poached. It basically had the shape of a poached egg with the consistency of a boiled one. I probably needed to be more specific in the ordering. My husband got French toast with strawberries and my son ordered the eggs Benedict and both were very happy with their meal as well. read more

The food is reliably good with enough options to satisfy my mood. There's comfort food, small plates, salads, steaks. Service is excellent. There's a full bar with top-shelf bourbon (a must for me!) The Colonial Inn is perfect for any situation, if you're looking for a sit down meal or just a drink and apps. We arrived after 8:00 pm last Friday and we were seated without a reservation, but I chalk the up to the later hour, otherwise I'd suggest making a reservation if you're heading there on a weekend night as it is typically filled with diners. read more

We loved everything about this Inn- the room was spotless, COVID precautions were in place, bed was so comfortable and the staff were very friendly. My family and I went to the Colonial Inn in Concord MA for Thanksgiving dinner. We were 4 adults and one child. It was appalling. The turkey was some institutional type of turkey they would serve in hospitals. It certainly wasn't oven roasted on the premises. They vegetables were dry and the potatoes were cold. The desserts were not much better. The cost was $60 per adult and $30 per child, you can do the math. It was a terrible dining experiences that will not be repeated by this family. After a morning of the Minuteman trail we were thirsty and hungry. This was a great stop as it was also historical. I ordered the cod tacos from the appetizer section as my meal. They were two big wonderful soft shell tacos. The flavor was well balanced and left me full for a while. We also had the burger. It was big and filling as well. Made to order with the fixings. I'm glad to have the opportunity to give this review. I was feeling drowsy while making an eight-hour drive through New England last Sunday. I happened to come across this extremely affordable hotel via Hotels.com. Very historic place with rich history, but obviously renovated. My room was simple and had everything I needed, which was a desk and wifi to catch up on some work. The Yankee pot roast I had in the Forge Tavern was outstanding. I was still a little tipsy the next day from my beverage. The food was delicious and literally more than I could eat at one sitting, which I did not expect.
